Coming back to this after a long period of being unable to access, and reading up on all the content, only furthers my desire to do an Akashic-heavy campaign setting of Genies and Gemstones, as an alternative take on Al-Qadim. Something genie-centric, but also inspired by the forthcoming Remastered lore changes from 2e. The Advanced Players and Class Guide(s) classes would have a presence too, but the Akashic classes would be the true stars of the setting.

If you are shot in the guts at point blank range, and the person next to you is pistol whipped, even if a tooth is dislodged you don't presume that both injuries are equal.

Same applies to your deliberate misconstrued understanding of why we say Black Lives Matter.

Dylan Roof was brought in alive after murder. George Floyd was publicly executed on the SUSPICION of passing a counterfeit $20.

I can spell it out 'til I'm blue in the face, but it speaks more of a willful failure to comprehend than a failure to expend the emotional labor go educate.

The comments about The Nexus make me want to see it all the more on account of my project that started as a more Akashic take on the sha'ir that has since evolved into an entire alternate take on geniekind as a whole and what might best work as the underpinning of an entire quasi-Persian/Arabesque setting.

Eff it, pledged for Akashic goodness.

Late to the party as ever, but I definitely want to encourage a mask-making type of akashic class, in my head as much inspired by the prestige class in Nyambé as the character Mudman from the fairly obscure Neo Geo fighting game franchise World Heroes.

Also a Passion Daeva in the style of a qedeshot is highly intriguing, but I'd definitely was to see a Philosophy of Change with an emphasis on the forcing of the issue being the fulcrum around which everything turns.

Someone semi-joked about it, but given that I have GURPS: Callahan's Crosstime Saloon and a deep love of the book series, I've spent way too much time writing up ideas for a brothel campaign inspired by Lady Sally's Place.

With a bit of crossup for the people who may not appreciate a smuttish romp, some of the campaign would be questing for rare boozes and food for the bar, while other adventures would be themed around...talent acquisition. Particularly for certain patrons of more exotic proclivities.

I had someone tell me that they understand what it's like to be discriminated against because she's 10 years older than her husband.

I tried to explain that they don't understand because they are part of the majority. They are white, cis, straight, and Christian. They don't understand what it means to be truly discriminated against. One said that she gets dirty looks because she's older than her husband. I asked her when was the last time that she was denied a job or housing because of it? Was she told that she wouldn't be allowed to marry him? Was she told where she should pee because of it? Was she told that she couldn't have a wedding cake, flowers, or a venue because of it? If not, then she doesn't get it.

She's not a bad person. I really don't think that she understands at all.

Dunno about everyone else, but this hetcismale darkie gets it.

I can't exactly white knight for my Rainbow Tribe people, but I can stand in front, if allowed, and beside if refused.

I have to admit, the idea of the misinterpretation of the permutations of the author's bigotry makes for potentially fascinated tellings where people go in with the wrong idea, and that misinformation makes not only for a chance to show the human monstrosity and then have them end up a-hole victims whe n the thing they misinterpreted come along to eat them anyways.

Mind, that is from the perspective of a darkie who isn't self-loathing in general, only in very specific about things non-racial, and who would write a story about people mistaking black people for being the chosen of Shub-Niggurath who seek to choke out other ethnicities by out-breeding and corrupting their purportedly pure blood and all that other horse-hockey, coming up with increasingly cockamamie theories until the actual spawn get them, in spite of those they persecuted trying to help save them from themselves and whatnot.

So as to not miss out on the chance to weigh in...

I have experienced the Freestyle machines at several locations - predominantly Wendy's in Dallas and Grapevine, Firehouse Subs in Plano and Grapevine, and a few other places I can't recall off the top of my head.

The ones in the Plano Firehouse Subs and the Dallas Wendy's were terrible. The ones in Grapevine didn't have the all-mix effect per core product. Why this is, I have no idea, but the Firehouse Subs in particular was notable because I went from Cherry Coke to a DIY Mezzo Mix (Orange + Coke) to a Grape Sprite and there was no flavor bleed in the Grapevine location...and they had a better Cherry Limeade mix to boot.

YMMV, clearly, even by site.

To go with the coherent theme, a decidedly intricate look as much at the seedier end of culture as the socially-acceptable. To be blatant, when you get to the culture, history, and the vices as well as the virtues of the city, I'd hope a page was taken from Sword and Sorcery's Shelzar: City of Sin. Granted, in that case the focus was decidedly more on the vices, but the history of the city examines the Why of said choices as much as the Why of the more virtuous end of how the City-State works.

So I skimmed through the thread, and saw one reference, and realized no one took it further than a single throwaway line.

Therefore, in memory of the anticipated idea of Aeons going insane (or sane?) and embarking on a grand crusade to restore balance to all things, with the Elder Gods being the unexpected protagonists for the fight against a static neutrality of balance instead of the dynamic chaos that is the current state of affairs, an absence of spirals and a madness of inspiration and whatnot...ahem.

Tone is a valid cause for complaint.

Of course, there's a substantial deficiency of thickness of skin, by my own likely unpopular opinion, but I don't run the joint. I may be able to take as well as I give, but it ain't my house, so if they want to tell me to curb it, until I start running my own place to discuss things I can't really make a big stink about it.

I'll call it like I see it, but accept that the House calls the shots.

That wouldn't work, because they use some penile tissue during SRS for the construction of the neovagina. Part of what you are trying to do is preserve as many nerve connections as possible so that you can remain sensate.

Appropos of nothing (aside from a story from the Hot Blood series of books), neovagina is now my favorite neologism du jour. It spurs the urge for GURPS and TransHuman Space.

It also moves the needle on certain personal issues for me, that are purely my own problem but don't impact anything other than my own personal conflicts that have been experienced.

I would totally want to try to woo Rivani with food.

I'd want to have Enora as a tutor who awakens a talent for magic within me.

I'd join Alahazra's cult any day of the week.

I'd like to feed Feiyah's fox and learn from her, but would pointedly avoid asking about her past.

I like Seelah, but couldn't imagine dating her.

Kess and Seoni both suffer from the blonde, which isn't my thing. Though I would go drinking with Kess, just...well, would direct her elsewhere. Especially given the peril it would put my teeth in.

I really dig Imrijka, but the interest strikes me as non-reciprocal.

Liri is adorable but likely not into humans.

Lirianne is interesting, even aside from her firearms focus.

Shadra is intersting for wholly different reasons, and likely has either an absence of interests or otherwise precluded.

Reiko I would want to do the full tilt courtship for, and ironically is the one I would totally take home to mom...in part because my mom would host a lovely tea ceremony for her, though it would be Japanese rather than Minkaian.

For the record, on the subject of 'social justice warriors' and the rest of that, I'm mostly in agreement with the substance of what Ashiel is saying, though in terms of terminology I dislike the use of the term 'social justice warrior' in most contexts. Too much baggage and different and conflicting definitions.

I'm cool with Ashiel using it since it's been defined very specifically above. :)

The problem is "social justice warrior" is almost exclusively used as an attack phrase. It doesn't really mean anything. Even with Ashiel's definition, it just turns into a way of accusing people of meeting that definition.

Much like there may well have been too much "political correctness" back when that phrase went mainstream, but it was quickly co-opted and used against any attempts to counter racism or sexism.

And to extend the metaphor - In any metaphorical conflict, you need both diplomats and warriors.

Nor am I sure why "equity" is preferable to "justice".

See, I'm used to both axes of Social Justice Warrior, from the self-proclaimed and the much-deriding. The term for me more often comes up in the latter context, but I also see it frequently used without irony, so I have to determine from context which interpretation is being used.

On the Political Correctness front, I've long since gotten used to people complaining about it and using the words, without irony, to basically complain about not being able to call black people something akin to 'naggers'. Not Political Correctness Run Amok - just Political Correctness. These are often the same people who jump on the Chris Rock Can Say It So Why Can't I train. The ones who purposefully don't see the re-appropriation of orientation slurs as grounds to use them as slurs because the users of same invoke privilege to do so.

Which is not to derail, it just drew my attention.

I think the idea is that "Extraordinary" is currently almost indistinguishable from "Mundane", when that doesn't need to be the case. "Mundane" shouldn't even be a word that comes up when you're talking about a fantasy adventure roleplaying game. There should be Extraordinary abilities readily available for non-spellcasting characters that have some of that wow factor spells get, abilities that may not be in keeping with the laws of physics as we understand them in the real world, but which allow for a world where a guy with a sword can have as big an impact on the narrative as the guy with the spells. Even American folklore, far more recent then the Greek, Roman, Asian, Celtic, and other influences that inform the game, includes stories of men whose skill and strength was beyond what is realistically possible, and who challenged machines with all the power and skill of modern industry behind them and won.

I want to favorite this to the g**$~&ned moon.

Is there anything more tragically ironic than a Sub Snob going into Voice Acting?

Because if not, I'm doomed.

Along with the girlfriend (who actually went out of her way to find this coach for me after a bad panel experience at AnimeFest), have been working with a professional coach, and just last weekend we recorded part one of her National demo. I'm doing mine after hers. We don't expect to get to work together, seeing as I have a day job that I wouldn't quit unless I hit it way big, but with home studio set up and a plan to do more than just dub-work (there's apparently good amounts of work to be found for voice-over in general), but given I'm in Funimation's backyard, and know a few people there, having been trained by someone they work with and who has done a substantial amount of game work gives me hope that one day, I'll be brought up in this thread as a character.

And it will be awesome! In spite of, well, you know, being all about that subtitle action.

Like the Psychos from Borderlands? Ah Puch from SMITE? The Narrator for Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt in English? Stuff from Mass Effect and a ton of other things? That's who we're training under. Really great guy, reasonable rates (and I'm not just saying that because I can afford him!), and a really awesome location if you are in the D/FW area.

Based on a certain succubus-heavy AP, they don't even need to be psychic. ^_^

See, part of me is okay with this, but the pedant in me says 'Look, the Dream World is supposed to be a Psychic thing, if I'm going to get into these head games I want it to be accurate.' If succubus head games can happen without being psychic, why, I'm not even sure if takings things in an occult direction would be worthwhile anymore...

Eh, I'll live.

To me, as a person who has no problem with wuxia/superheroics/reality breaking after enough levels and experience, I still hold to the idea that martial should be breaking the boundaries of the more humorous Natural 20 threads. Or more specifically, martial should be doing so in general physical endeavors, and sneakyslyclever stuff for rogues.

Overly simplustic, but there it is. Also, magic that attempts to so the same should only have the bare minimum of success - it does in a pinch, but a person who actually does things as their livelihood should in fact be better than magic. A conjured sword should certainly be awesome, but not as much so as one actually forged by an artisan in the smiting professoon. A spell should be able to open a lock, in theory, but a locksmith should be able to do so with less overall effort, and at a skill level that would leave one unable to believe it was ever messed with. I'm of a mind that magic should certainly emulate many things, but never be superior in the long haul.

And that's even with liking casters, in general, but tiring of the Caster Master Race bull.

What the hell do you call those men who basically went to WW2 green Midwestern boys and came back heroes?

Does the process of becoming, say, SEAL team worthy not constitute a prime example of substantial increase of badassery?

FFS, we can abstract hit points but it's too much if a stretch for people to overcome mundaneness by amazing physical effort?

How utterly joyless and beyond pedantic.

So people like to reference King Arthur and Merlin for the martial/caster thing done right.

How about Liu Bei, Zhang Fei, Guan Yu, and Zhuge Liang? Or does the very fact that the Romance of the Three Kingdoms is Chinese make for "wah too wuxia"?

Bear in mind that in the novels, not what is based on it, there is a substantial amount of 'maybe magic, maybe mundane' happening, beyond the Yellow Turban uprising and the workingse of Sima Yi or other known workers of mystical abilities.

And I can accept the idea of legend and myth scope being separate things only as much as the departure from said should be equally applicable. After all, the Right Veda is chock fill of mythical martial not constrained by mundanity in any form.

My only regret is that I do not know the appropriate linguistic term in the language for nubile, as other appearance puns don't work for her. I mean, you can easily comment about a older huntress with a big cat pet by saying 'awesome cougar...and the cat is pretty sweet too,' but the bhabi quip would work best for her older, married sisters.
