I like the idea of the system, but I think you're overselling the "legendary" proficiency quite a bit. From what I've read, Legendary skills don't become available until like level 19. This means they will never even see the light of day in society play, and home sessions will take years to get there. IIRC even master level is late in the game. So are there options for intentionally scaling up your proficiency, for specializing in a skill so that it is more effective early on? Some of the things you described as legendary skill uses are kind of available to specialists like bards and rogues fairly early in the game, at least earlier that what it seems like here. If not thwn this is all just fluff, as the skill system otherwise seems pretty weak
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 5, 5) = 16-2=14
Argh, dice. Why! That said, I might still be able to do something with these stats. I would like to make an Eldritch Poisoner alchemist with VMC Rogue. A sort of mad scientist/evil actupuncturist, he got caught lacing his herbal treatments and therapies with subtstances that caused delicious, wonderful pain.
I am very interested! What nights will the discord sessions be on? My schedule is a static rotating schedule, which means I'm off certain nights one week and the opposite nights the next. I've been looking for games willing to do say, Tuesday nights one week, Wednesday the next. I have a very interesting villainous mad scientist type character that would be fun for this kind of campaign
Hey there! I would like to be considered for the lottery! 1. My name is Andy! 2. I am currently GMing a PbP Strange Aeons AP. I have only a very little amount of organized play experience, and that is mostly because I have a weird schedule that makes it hard to get involved in PFS stuff, except for the odd convention. I am however very familiar with PFS rules and gameplay, and have reviewed all of the relevant material HOWEVER! I am in fact attending GenCon 50, and GMing Starfinder there! I will be well acquainted with the rules. 3. Space. I love space. Jedi, Starfleet, Asimov, Heinlen, Scalzi, I devour sci fi! I'm also SUPER excited to start from the ground up with a new system. I love Pathfinder, but it is a bit large and overwhelming to come into so late in the game. Not only that but Paizo has built it's brand on player feedback over the years, which is great, but indicates that the process has involved no small amount of learning for the makers. I think that Starfinder, coming in after over a decade of experience, is being built with the best, clearest ideas the writers have, and will be a more polished game right from the start. Super excited! 4. I'm pretty much a huge dork. I love gaming of all varieties, i currently also GM a Strange Aeons tabletop with my besties, and also co-GM a home brew with my best friend. In my spare time, I computer and board game, and read a lot. 5. Yes I can post multiple times, however I do work nights (7pm-7am CST), which mean I will be most active in the evebing. That said, I check my phone often throughout the day and would have no problem squeezing out some posts in between naps 6. Playing individually. 7, 8. I do not anticipate any absences at this time, my next vacation isn't until December and even then I would still post, albeit at a slightly reduced speed. I do hope you will consider me! I haven't picked out my character yet obviously but based on the released info to date, it will most likely be a Mystic, Solarion, or Operative. Little side note: Paizo is filtered at work :( which means I am almost always using my phone to play. Please forgive any typoes, my phone regularly likes humiliate me
I have a question about how the Far Strike Monk's ability to use a ki point to give his thrown weapons his unarmed strike damage works with hybridized splash weapons. For reference: Hybridization funnel:

The underground chemist isn't so imoortant for quoting purposes, it merely allows the drawing of alchemical weapons as weapons. Anywho, my question is this: When you use the FSM ability to increase the base damage die of thrown weapons, does it increase the damage of both components of the hybridized flask? For instance with a fire and acid flask, would the damage 1d6 and 1d6 damage increase to 1d8 and 1d8 for a total of 2d8? Or would the hybridized flask just count as one single thrown weapon and have a total of 1d8 damage? I believe they both increase since the text of the hybridization funnel says that: "when thrown as a splash weapon, the mixture has the effects of both component substances and creatures are affected as if hit by both." This implies that you still have to roll both damages separately, which means they would both increase with the monk's ability.

You have a move action remaining.

No. I generally I find Paizo's optional systems needlessly complex, with a few exceptions. I will also admit I have not fully researched the Horror one, but I think this campaign is just fine and plenty eerie enough, particularly when we get to slow down and really write out what's happening
Mala Malein wrote: Hm... you know that could actually be pretty cool as well as kinda creepy, my eye just oozing out of my socket slowly inflating till it's the same size as I am. I need to look a bit more at familiar archetypes really quick. I'm a big fan of the familiar archetypes myself, particularly Pilferer, Mascot and Valet.
Julius Anderson wrote: Funnily enough, I believe you actually can apply archetypes to an Eyebiter's eye. There's a build for a Small character out there where you give it the Mauler archetype, so it can pop out of your eye socket, make it grow to be bigger than you, and then you ride it using your own severed optic nerve as the reins. It's so dumb, but also an amazing image. Good lord that is bonkers. I'm imagining a Halfling in a cowboy hat riding his own bulked out flying eyeball like that scene in Dr. Strangelove.
Julius Anderson wrote: Super excited to be here! This is a super interesting group, I think. Three occult classes, two hybrid ones. Plus, only one person has darkvision, and I have low-light vision. Guess the scout roles are already pretty set, haha. This is gonna be really cool, I think. I'm also excited! I love the occult classes, and I also like investigators and bloodragers for their flavor! Also I'm looking forward to all the low will saves >=)
You are in an alleyway. A pervasive yellow fog swirls around you, thinning some as the alleyway is released into a wider street. The building walls to either side of you are made of non-descript charcoal stone. Around you are... figures. People. Strangers you can barely make out in the ochre mist. The alley behind you disappears into a mist that becomes soupy thick, a wall of yellow that swirls and seems to whisper to you in an odd, almost-decipherable language. As you peer into the thickest part of the mist, a sense of dread begins to rise within you, a dread that makes your tongue dry and your limbs shake. Something is coming! Each player may take a full round action, with initiative at this moment simply being post order. Knowledge:
As you try to concentrate, you struggle to keep coherent thoughts in your mind; thoughts seem to slide through your brain in fragments that make little sense, and all the while you struggle to maintain enough composure to do something other than cower. No knowledge checks at this time. Special: If you have clarity enough to attempt to draw or use an item, you are surprised to find that you are in little more than basic linen shirts and trousers. Each player may pick one item that you find yourself holding or wearing. Your character otherwise maintains all abilities associated with him or her, including spells and focus powers, etc.
Thank you everyone for your character submissions!! You all made it very difficult for me to pick, I wanted to use everyone! But I could only pick 5. I picked the most balanced party I could, one that covered most if not all of the skill bases, as well as provided enough versatility, survivability, and damage. I also weighed everyone’s character concepts and backgrounds, which was particularly delightful. This is the party I would like to play with: Devrak, Half-orc bloodrager, played by Aldizog
This party has a mix of ranged and melee, but is a little low on support. However multiple party members have UMD, which compared with the damage output and debuff capabilities, should work just fine. To acknowledge your participation in the game, you can take your first action in the gameplay tab! I hope you all enjoy yourselves!

I had a stroke of genius. I can edit the campaign info at will, so I can keep all of my instructions and such updated there. So as it says up at the very top above the tabs for this campaign, keep an eye out for changes. I will timestamp when I make some.
I'd say this isn't the most treasureful AP out there. It is big on weirder, more esoteric gear that isn't generally cornerstones of builds. So I would say, as far as item optimization is concerned, the more flexible your character can be, the better. Actually since I am thinking about it, there is an opportunity relatively early in the AP to retrieve one item of low-moderate (4-5k max gold worth) that would be your character's personal valuable from his or her past. So you can keep that in mind, that if you need one particular item in that wealth range, there will be an opportunity to find one specifically made for you - IF you can find it >=) Starting wealth is whatever your average for your class would be.
A little bit of thread necro, but getting Dirty Trick Master when you are eligible at level 15 is amazing. You also ought to consider dropping spring attack (an interesting idea, I'll admit - boof all the things in the nads!) and consider kitsune style instead. Applying two conditions at a time, and as a AoO, is pretty neat. So at level 15 if you're lucky, you'll have +12 to your bonus from flanking for an unmodified total of 27, you can replace 1 attack with a DT, one with say, greater trip, which provokes, which you can use another DT to increase the severity (pin! Daze!), and just generally screw up someone's day. Of course by level 15, trip itself is... Unreliable. Might have to find another way to guarantee an AoO. Perhaps opportunist rogue talent?
Welcome, hapless adventurers. I am Andy, and I intend to Here is what I'm looking for in prospective players: Expectations::
1. Patience! I am new to PbP, and I am largely using my phone for operation. Please forgive any formatting or spelling errors, and be gentle when I ask for help with something.
2. Commitment. I would like to see everyone post at least once a day, excepting for holidays, vacations, etc. I Wil ask for PDFs or hero lab portfolio copies of your character for situations of emergencies, vacations, etc. so that the game can continue without everyone feeling any undue stress or worry about leaving us hanging. 3. Follow established protocol. I will assume that all players will be taking 10 on perception at all times, including at doors; as a GM I do not find it reasonable for rogues or anyone to get take 20s at a door, as that would imply you spend a significant time staring at it. Disablers will have to roll on traps because they can misfire, so unless you have an ability that lets you take 10 or 20 on a disable, I will roll it for you as part of your discovery of the trap. In combat please put your basic combat info in each post; |hp current (including temporary hp)/hp max, current AC/conditional modifiers|, |f/r/w saves +/- conditional modifiers,| |CMB (conditional modifiers) / CMD (conditional modifiers).| |Temporary effect names.| Also we will need to establish an exploring protocol. Who leads and where does everyone stand in relationship to each other when adventuring. I expect people to typically line up two or three in a line, with a typical set up at doors: X always positions to the left of Y, and Z to Y's right at a closed, untrapped door. 4. Offer suggestions! I'm new at this, and while I've been GMing for a while IRL, this is a clunky new medium for me and I am very open to suggestions. Character Creation:
I'm looking for 4-5 level 1 players, core races primarily, but I am willing to negotiate. All paizo material is acceptable. Crafting will be a little tricky but not impossible in this mod. To craft effectively you will most likely need access to the rope trick/ring of sustenance trick to get your full 8 hours in every day. I will discuss this further with any players who might rely on crafting as a regular part of their character, like gunslingers, alchemists, poisoners.
Access to towns with significant magical stores for sell is NOT common in this adventure path. I do not want 100% completely optimized itemization characters but please feel free to message me with ideas of what kind of loot you would like to see. If your build hinges around one paricular wondrous item or weaapon mod, I strongly suggest you rethink it. I mean how lucky would you have to be to find exactly that thing just lying around? That said, I will find ways to work in upgraded items and the like. I would like to see some non-traditional characters join up, and I admit that I will lean towards accepting occult classes, investigators, or oracles over more traditional or high damage classes. In both of my current IRL campaigns I have to deal with massive damage one shotter PCs, so I will tell you now, those character concepts are going to be a hard sell for me. 20 point buy, 2 traits and a Strange Aeons campaign trait (hopefully not everyone goes Twitchy on me; try to resist! It is a very good trait though.) Drawback and additional traits acceptable. I'm gonna give adopted the side eye, but allow it. Don't stress too much on your character background--you can't remember it anyway! I can't think of anything else off the top of my head. I will bump the post for a few days until I have a nice selection of characters to chose from. Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!
Alrighty, after a little bit of thought, I present to you: Macawi, the Human Tetori Monk: Disgusted with the chaotic tribal ways of his Shoanti clan, Macawi has sought out the Hellknights in order to prove his worth as a divine weapon against agents of chaos and disorder. Even while he admires the Hellknight fervent dedication to order and society, he scoffs at their showy armaments.
Human Tetori Monk 5
Str: 19
Bred for War, Devil Fighter LE, HP: 55
CMB: +10 (+14 grapple)
Feats: Improved UAS (mnk1), Stunning Fist x5 (DC 16, mnk1) Improved Grapple (mnk1), Toughness, Stunning Pin (mnk 2), Hellknight Obedience, Kraken Style Evasion, Graceful Grapple (no negative effects for grappling, can make AoO), Ki Pool (7/day), Break Free (+5 bonus to EA checks to break grapple), Disease Immunity Items: bracers of armor +1, gauntlets of the skilled maneuver (grapple +2)
Hiyo fellow Onliners! I'm putting my tentacles out there to see if there would be anyone interested in floating down through the Horrifyingly fascinating Strange Aeons AP. I currently am running it live with my best friends and it is quite super fun, and I thought it would be a good fit for me to venture into online GMing, since I already am familiar with the AP. I would like to find players with the appropriate time commitment of at least 1x/day for the Aeons it will take to creep through the campaign, preferably Western hemisphere night-oriented folks, as I am a night shifter, and will be most active in the evenings. That said, I am sporadically available through all times of the day, long enough to reply, so daywalkers may also apply. Please post below if you are interested!

Thank you muchly! I admit I have not read the guide in some time, as I had practically given up on PFS due to a lack of availability on my part to attend events. Thank you for the note about being limited to one game! Shouldn't be a problem due to aforementioned schedule conflicts!
Please forgive my ignorance if I have missed the answer to these questions, but there are thousands of posts, and while I certainly have the appropriate time to get into PbP, I admit I do not have the particular patience required to dig around for answers to these particular questions: 1.) Are PbP scenarios sanctioned for PFS? Do we receive chronicle sheets on completion, and do GMs report participation for our account? If so, I believe this helps answer my second question: 2.) Are society live characters and PbP characters interchangeable? For instance, would a live character I have started be eligible for PbP games, or PbP characters eligible for live games? My assumption is yes, assuming reporting and chronicle sheets are all square. Thank you in advance for your replies!
I'm really glad I found this thread! I just sent an e-mail to genconvolunteers@paizo.com asking if there were still any DM volunteer spots left, as i was kind of bummed about there not being any of the games open at this time. I already have an attendee badge and room and travel so it isn't terribly concerning to me to miss out on the awards, I'm just super excited about Starfinder and I enjoy DMing my home pathfinder campaigns just as much as I enjoy playing. I haven't DM'd for the society yet, though. Anyway, it is good to know that they are still looking for volunteers, I wouldn't mind doing a mix of PFS and Starfinder, even. Guess I'll go ahead and fill out the questionnaire!
Has Paizo still not addressed this issue? This is vexing indeed. After some discussion with my friend who is a GM, he said the he would house rule this feat to be used as intended, which is to feint against creatures that are mindless or otherwise immune to stare, but that you wouldn't get the benefits of the actual stare (so no painful stare and dazzling shennanigans). That makes the bonus feat only marginally less worthless here. What is the point of feinting against a creature when it otherwise does nothing for you? Stab him instead. But at least if you go the disengaging shot route, you have some positioning flexibility against them.
