Hi Paizo, When I opened up my subscription this month, I was pleasantly surprised to find that there weren't any packing peanuts. I think it is great that you've moved away from them. However, I did notice that you choose to replace them with Uline-branded air pockets, and this kind of made me pause. Paizo's corporate values are so highly in line with various causes, most notably the LGTBQ+ community, which you have welcomed and even ingrained into your lore. Hence my disappointment to see Uline-branded products. Part of why I like supporting Paizo is that they have taken an important stand on certain issues, and knowing what Uline management espouses privately, as citizens, and then publicly on letters they post on their website, gives me pause. I would hope that Paizo considers joining other companies in sourcing their packing materials elsewhere. 2014 letter from Oni Press: https://www.windycitytimes.com/lgbt/news_photos.php?AID=46991 2017 article with links to alternative packing product suppliers: https://burlesquedesign.com/blogs/news-1/say-no-to-uline-1?_pos=1&_sid= e0b58da3a&_ss=r 2018 New York Times Article on their stance, publicly posted corporate letters, and donation history: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/07/us/politics/liz-dick-uihlein-republican- donors.html 2022 article from ProPublica on their political stance and donation history: https://www.propublica.org/article/uline-uihlein-election-denial

A word of warning for any GMs running this, especially if you rely on digital tools: There are a lot of weird differences with this scenario. Be careful with just using the elite and weak template (several of the elite templates have weak modifications to things like AC, saves, and HP), and watch out as one of the hazards has 24 HP but a BT of 22 instead of 12. One of the 8th level casters casts 8th level cantrips - 8th level telekinetic projectile can be quite lethal - and their spell list that is referenced to an AP has a change in the PFS scenario. Since PFS is required to be run as written these all matter.

In fact the module is literally that plus a mapping file for the PF2e system compendia. The catch is that it is a licensed product, meaning you buy a license key that you can redeem as part of your foundry account, which means you need the foundry license and software to download it. But once it is downloaded it is just loose files well organized in folders. As long as your VTT of choice handles modern file types you should be good to use them!

If these adjustments are the way that Paizo will be paying their amazing team of content creators and employees living wages then I'm all for it! The Paizo staff really do deserve it for the work that they put in; the value we get is really good if you look at the content and the quality.

I typically open/import any maps in GIMP, resize to 100 px per inch, and then save as webp. Takes me two minutes and "just works" in Foundry. Ched Greyfell wrote:

I can amplify the answer provided above. The resolution of all maps will be 200 ppi (so one map grid is 200 pixels by 200 pixels) which is better than what we can import PDF maps at. The exception is one of the maps in AV because of concerns about old graphics cards. Older graphics cards have a specific limit that a map that size would exceed, so that one map is 100 dpi, or one quarter the resolutions (which is similar or slightly better than most Paizo interactive maps, depending on the map). Obviously this was done to make sure maximum compatibility. It would suck to get through several floors of AV and then just have to stop because one player can't see the map :) That's the type of foresight that Foundry and Sigil are bringing to this conversion! Fumarole wrote: Will the maps be of appropriate quality at miniature scale? I see the tokens are mentioned as being high resolution, but see no such comment about the maps.

You'll still be able to build worlds in Foundry without needing to buy premium content. You can put in the Paizo maps as images and then put down the walls and lighting. All the actors you need will be in the system for free, and I can tell you that those take the most amount of time compared to everything else. PDF to Foundry will still work so bestiary creatures can even have the art assigned through the importer. PDF to Foundry still works, and it will be maintained, just not improved upon or have things added to it (other than maybe PFS scenarios because they're super easy compared to an adventure or an AP). But for new stuff you would be 100% on your own. That sounds bad until you realize that you have all the actors, feats, features, classes, everything CUP still available, including from new books and adventures. So compared to, say, a 5e player you are still MILES ahead. In any case, before judging the price point I think we should all wait and see what it will be for what is being offered. If you value your time at $20/hr, how much would it take for you to buy the module instead of building the world yourself. That's the real question. For scope, it took between 160 and 180% of what it would take a single person to set up a world to make the same thing work in PDF to Foundry if the layout of the PDF was the same as a previous one. This meant that FryGuy was putting in over 30 hours and had to spoil every adventure (except AV because he ROT-13 encoded some of the text and taught me how to use it - this is also why AV in PDF to Foundry isn't as good as other adventures... all my mistakes, not FryGuy's) for the good of the community. PDF to Foundry was amazing, and FryGuy paid over $1,000 out of pocket on things he'll never get to play before starting the Patreon, and then closed the Patreon as soon as he broke even. Plus someone can still make a new PDF to Foundry. As long as it has suitable watermark checking it can be listed as a Foundry module. Someone just has to do that work and respect Paizo's IP. If Foundry doesn't enforce that for officially listed modules then no publisher will want to publish on their platform, and that would suck for the whole industry. KyleS wrote:

Good news: You can download the file now. Bad news: The included manor map art asset is corrupted and downloads as a 0 byte jpg called "(location name removed for spoilers) Map – Untagged" Other news: I'm not sure where the pregens are because they aren't in the PDF and don't seem to be linked in the product page like the other one-shots

A more apt analogy is "a bunch of volunteers". Please remember that all of this is done by random people, not a company, who are unpaid and unsupported by Paizo for the community. Plus we are working on the UI/UX side of things, but if there is a professional willing to donate their time and help to redesign things please feel free to step forward (although likely this isn't the purview of a marketer so much as a UI/UX or accessibility designer). We used to have things like folders for the compendia (and the code for it still exists) but it wasn't natively supported by core Foundry, so the PF2e system developers can only do so much. The code we relied on to make that happen isn't compatible with 0.8 and this many compendia isn't an issue for any non-Paizo system, so it isn't a priority for Foundry itself to fix. The last major revision to the Foundry core (going to 0.8.x) meant rewriting 60% of the PF2e system code - 40,000 lines - to be compatible. But for the $0 that you pay for the PF2e on Foundry and the $0 that you pay for the PDF importer on Foundry and the fact that hopping on the discord will likely give you the answer to any question within minutes, well, you're more than getting your moneys worth :)

Hi all, As part of a project that is OGL/CUP compliant, can you use the descriptive text for monsters/NPCs from from the bestiaries/Adventures/APs/GMG? Reading the product identity statement I don't believe that this text seems to necessarily fall under that, excluding, say, the description of a Red Mantis Assassin NPC which would clearly not fall under OGL but could fall under community use. Specifically, I'm asking if it is acceptable to include (using arbiter as an example) the: "These spherical inevitables..." along with the stat block. Thanks for the help!

Hi All, I recently ran 2-08 as a GM for a second time and have an issue with the online reporting. The first time I ran it I applied the credit against one of my characters. This second time, I didn't apply it against any character since it is a non-repeatable. Per the organized play guide, table credit and achievement points are earned, but not a new chronicle: "GMs earn GM credits, Achievement Points, and a Chronicle the first time they GM an adventure. Any subsequent GM sessions earn GM credits and AcP, unless the adventure has the Repeatable Tag. " On my session report, however, there are no achievement points awarded and an annotation: "Player has already run scenario at session # 16 of event #.... on December 20, 2020." That session was the first time I ran 2-08 and I did apply it to my -2001 character. This session I did not put in a PC number and all of the players in the second session were new to me/never reported by me and definitely not in session #16. I asked on the OPO discord and they suggested reaching out here. Any help you can give would be appreciated. Happy New Year!

Thanks for the reply! I made the map myself and the artwork is sourced from the Paizo blogs so per the CUP it can be used. The rest of the audio and images are available per CC0 license or created myself and issued under CC0. Mostly it is the actual scenario that I’m wondering about. The text to the scenario itself since that is included. Nominally that is the key IP, but Paizo also gives it away for free so that is the grey area to me :S. As part of the volunteer developer team Of the PF2e system for Foundry we want to do everything by the book as we eventually want Paizo to (or allow others to) have a similar system for purchasing art and PFS scenarios/adventures/APs as roll20 or FG.

Hi all, I’m working to create a demo world for a VTT based off of Torment and Legacy. The PF2e conversion is non-commercial and everything so far complied with the CUP and OGL. We would like to offer the scenario as a pre-made module for people to try out PF2e utilizing only CC0 material as well as what is contained within the free Torment and Legacy PDF or otherwise provided by Paizo for community use. I don’t know if this is permissible because I think that the story would be Paizo IP, but since it is offered for free it is a bit of a grey area. All the BTT would do is take the package from PDF form and turn it into a module with appropriate disclaimers regarding the CUP and OGL. As a side note I did email licensing@paizo.com about this but with COVID-19 slowing things down I have no idea if or when I’ll get a reply and was hoping someone on the forums might have run into something like this (or similar) with the Paizo free scenarios. Thank you! |
