1) yes
2) no, because the cone starts in the square you're in, not the square next to you.
3) 10' radius = 12 squares. 30' cone = 36 squares (I think?) so cone. Just remember, cone has an effective range of 0, while you can fling the radius.

gnomes, because they will INTENTIONALLY dress the same to throw people off. Call themselves Mr. Loompa.

Bards, alchemists, investigators, gunslingers, or paladins would be fun.

I see many many "Contingency" spells (When nuke = here then teleport nuke = sun?) cast during Time Stop.

In there quest for color, who's to say what they may pick up along the way? Maybe they saw a Noble early on and decided that they are aristocracy. Prove he doesn't have Noble blood when it's of the first world!

Seriously, I love Gnomes because they can be almost any off-the-wall concept you can come up with.

Well, the way I read it, it breaks down to:
1) Arcane spell takes an additional slot.
2) Making it Divine increases required spell level by 1.

Since BOTH slots would be turning into divine, you'd need to increase BOTH slots by 1. So a 1st level Arcane would be 2 2nd level divine.

DM interpretation is always key, just present the argument to your DM, and see if they'll roll with how you'd like it!

I'd recommend against the two-weapon idea unless you think of a way to mitigate not having a hand free for "lay on hands."

2-handed weapon is a solid choice, but with process of elimination to buff yourself:

Can't do Barbarian, lawful. can't do Alchemist or Arcane, bad int. Can't do Divine, bad wis.

What about a Kineticist tank? Con as a casting stat, I've heard good things on the forums about them, could be a unique way to get around your stats.

Bloodrager dip? No Alignment restriction, give you basic rage to +4 that strength for emergencies, and you don't get spells until after 4th so no wisdom is no problem. 'course, you won't get your spells as a Paladin anyways...

Straight figher and Weapon Specialization? (Just putting it out there...)

I like the idea of the Swashbuckler parrying everything going after them.

Just my 2 cents.

Bean-bag rounds?

Hmmmm.... Magic item "Bullets of Healing" that heal instead of hurt? Even if it's only 1d3 hit points, it would be a good rider for buffing spells... if you go that way.

I agree, you have the stat array of a Caster. I'd say summon critters then change into something flying to stay out of reach, until you can get some changes with massive boost to strength. Maybe cast "Chain Lightening" before you change? Or "Produce Flame?" or anything else that lasts for rounds/level?

Metamagic: if you're a caster, awesome. If you're going to Melee, maybe only 1 or 2. Instead, perhaps some Figher feats, like weapon focus or improved initiative? Maybe the "Improved Summon" chain?

Personally, I'd keep 13-19 free until you figure out your specialty, and fill in 3 to fill a gap you find during your first two levels.

The Craft (Alchemy) isn't, but the Alchemy class feature is. I think that's how people justify that, while the Alchemist isn't a Spellcaster, it is a Magic User (AD&D 2nd edition lingo here).

Personally, I think it's wonky that a Magus, the alpha omega gish, can create items but an Alchemist, whose whole point is creating things, can't.

That being said, GM Discression is a wonderful thing.

Home game?

Ask your DM to follow spell creation rules to make something from another class to yours. Mine was OK with it as long as it was a level higher than from another class, with some exceptions. i.e. wizards still can't get cure spells, etc.

GM Fiat can go a long way.

Dot. :)

Possibly a half-orc reflavor? Tiefling?

If you want a Template, how about
Prereq: Orc, Half Orc, Assimir, or Tiefling.
+2 to any one physical stat
-2 to any one mental stat

A limited number of times per day, they may take any damage from a single source, and convert it into Nonlethal damage. They may do this (Con Bonus) times per day. This is an immediate effect.

Wait, Warpriest? "Abundant Ammunition" would be a fun wand to have....

Charisma may also inspire Jealousy in other folks that generally use Charisma in their trade.

"Wisdom describes a character's willpower, common sense, awareness, and intuition." Sherlock Holmes? Mr. Confident?

"Intelligence determines how well your character learns and reasons." Not nessisarily the most knowlagable one in the group, but someone whom adapts easily and applies things quickly. Ender Wiggin? The girl from "Tomorrowland?"

"Constitution represents your character's health and stamina." Someone who's never been sick. Ever.

"Dexterity measures agility, reflexes, and balance." Cirque du Solei acrobats?

"Strength measures muscle and physical power." I'm just thinking Mr. Incredible for some reason.

...Just some inspiration.

Given the advice of Captain Morgan, I'd recommend doing the Empiricist Investigator with a semi-Sherlock Holmes style, with an infatuation for the "rich and famous."
Maybe have him constantly reading a Gazette, with a sketchbook of all the Absalon VIP for him to practice his mimicry of. Don't neglect the Spy skills too, so he can learn the personal habits of his newest target, with or without their knowlage. Don't forget UMD so he can fake the Spellcaster aspect for the Scrolls!

Well, with Eidolon, make it a Brood Master so you can have Eidolons. Or a Master Summoner so you can have multi Summons going at once.

Evolved Familiar can help boost it a bit, making it your mook "commander."

Level 9? Take Leadership as a feat. Go crazy with Minions that can Summon as well.

If you want a Minion build, a Bard with Leadership is VERY dangerous. Focus on boosting your Leadership score. Then you can have a Summoner AND An Alchemist as minions to do what you'd like. Build your mooks to fit. Bard is my suggestion because of the "I help everyone else" focus to make your minions more powerful, but any Charisma-based class will help with Leadership.

Since you're the GM, take Leadership twice. Consider it two guilds/groups you are the leader of, not one.

Flavor of the groups would be at your digression, make your Leutennants awesome!

Dot for reference. ;-)

I remember an old Dragon Magazine issue having a "Motion" spell, 5th level evocation, in order to give a wheel perpetual rotation. Use to power self-propelled wagons or chainswords and such.

Otherwise, perhaps a permanent Create Object spell to have "matter" and "Antimatter" go into constant contact, making permanent perfect energy until the alignment gets out of wack...

Perhaps a permanent Animated Object to have a piston continually going?

If you want Rhube Goldberg, perhaps a permenant "Heat metal" spell on a Cauldron, under an Endless Decanter of Water, providing steam?

If you need Electric, get a Zombie, remove arms and legs, impale with a "Shocking" weapon, give it Fast Healing (enough to not die), and tap the power of the sword?

Cheilax would be a great place to hide out! Once she moved there, she learned how to "get around" the local show of force and use it as a defensive tool. Someone snooping around for her? Inform the local Hellknights about a "subversive" coming into town, and let them do the work. Possibly becoming friends of some of these hellknights in the Taverns during their Down Time. Immursing herself into a culture to hide from her "father."

Maybe she even became a merchant of magical tools and ingredients to help herself become accepted by the localness. Adding to your background, perhaps you were tired of staying behind in the store while everyone else had all the fun so decided to go out on your own?

...Just an idea.

With the CE souls having nowhere to go, what would happen to them?

How would Nethys feel about a whole infinite plane suddenly becoming magic-dead?

If it got to the point of no turning back, would the younger gods consider teleporting Rovagug to the abyss? Kinda like the God version of the Taresque, if you can't kill it, give it to another plane....

Since Hell is where LE souls go, and the Abyss is where CE souls go, where do Devils / Demons go when they die? Phantasma's private domain? How would she feel about all the new neighbors?

If Desna sided with Asmodeus, would her brother side with the demons out of spite? Now they have gods, not just a god, on their side...

What would happen if ANOTHER Worldwound opened up... or another several?

What if ... THINGS just started coming out of the Maelstrom?

What if, when you cut off the abyss, it glitches Necromancy?

With CE and LE fighting to the end (like they tend to do), almost destroying each other, would Aroden be "reincarnated" as a god of balance?

Not many facts, just things to think about... ;)

Go human, use the trait "Adopted Parantage" to gain the Exotic Weapon Proficiency feat for free from Half Elf.

How about an artifact that does something huge in a McGuffin type of way, that just has the side effect of aging someone a year for every (day/hour) they hold on to it? Maybe even giving them bonuses to mental stats / negatives to physical stats after a while.

Perhaps give the bearer a bonus side effect on Protection from Negative Energy for actually having the item on them. Perhaps minor shadow control? Maybe also give the holder some strange cantrip effect of shadows elongating around you to make you look like Emperor Palpatine once you pass middle age... give a great excuse to include Shadow Evocation as a per-day ability...

Give the item an Ego to make it so that some characters believe this item is the best thing since fresh air, so they will not willingly give it up. If someone dies of old age while holding onto it, <insert role playing element>. If someone puts it down after considerable aging, they go back to their normal age at the same rate they were aged. Once enough people are aged into the artifact, <insert awesome Role Playing element here>.

Nope, you'd stand there with a spear and stick things as they get close to you with Attacks of Opportunities, allowing you to buff, heal, etc as your standard actions.

I also recommend the investigator or alchemist build. Decent BAB progression, the extracts boost your utility well, and you can build it how you like it. Wanna melee it? do Grenaider and cleave things with Alchemist Weapon of Choice. Ghosts? Throw Force bombs at them. Want to boost your physical stat of choice? Mutagen. Mental? Cognitogen. Or just toss out a bunch of Smoke Bombs for board control and wade through places without chance of charge. They really are a "Choose your own Mayhem" style of character.

Dot

hrmmmm, undead lord gnome? With a Dhampir progeny? interesting....

Alchemist and Arcanist come to mind easily enough, unless maybe a Cleric of the Whispering Way? Throw your party for a loop and make him a multiclass with an Alchemist Dip with a Cognitogen... Boost that spellcasting stat! Maybe make him a Bleachling, so he's seen the "end" and wants to keep his "daughter" from it, and he's getting into Alchemy as another way to the same end?

He'd need a good support team, so maybe:

1) the Chief of a local humanoid clan as local mooks and muscle. Recommend keeping them small to challenge the medium races. Kobold/goblin/grippli?

2) A relative of the gnome (true or adopted) who's into the same thing because he enjoys hurting things in imaginative ways, maybe an Alchemist teacher?

3) "Mr Fixit" - the sniper or assassin to get problems solved. Ranger or Rogue? arcane trickster?

4) the Dhampir. Just because she's a child doesn't mean she's helpless.

5) Familiar. Given enough rank in the scheme of his life, he could be a sergeant for mooks to taunt the players for a few encounters.

6) One random unintelligent big-azz monster at the bottom of the nest to throw things into for entertainment and waste disposal. Ooze, otoyugh, gelatinous cube farm, uncontrolled zombie stock pile, rust monsters, get creative.

Then, if you want to challenge them with "mid level" challenges, give them flying opponents (flying monkeys?), spellcasters with buffs / debuffs, things that can go through walls (incorporeal or small earth elementals), or things that would act like players. How would your players try to take themselves out? Do they have a weakness to exploit? Anything from an earlier adventure that would join with Mr. Evil to kill the good guys for fun and profit?

Just my 2cp.

maybe some Enchantment? They can't hurt you if they're asleep, or think they're your friend.

Maybe some summoning as meat shields? Summon 2 w/ many shields with the command "Protect me!" is a great way to not deal unnecessary damage.

I like the idea of using a familiar to do touch spells to your friends. A flying lark could cure one person a round and stay out of most folks range.

Try reading the class guides for Wizards and pull from the God Wizard area. There's some good stuff in there, even if you don't want to learn Fireball. ;)

At least with an Alchemist, he can talk about Crafting levels... with Magic Item Creation.

Skills would be cool to go over with him too... Perception, Craft, Survival (fishing), Hide, anything MMO related would be a good pick for him.

"Yay, I'm Third level! I got the feat and unlocked Magical Crafting! WOOT!"

Fighter: "Huh?"

"It's ok, Meatshield, you'll like the toys I make you..."

"My name's Bartholomew...."

"Whatever!"

-I miss the Quest spells of 2nd edition. Things that are only allowed because of DM Fiat because they are so powerful. How about 10th level spells?
-A spellcasting version of Weapon Focus/Specialization?
-A feat to improve metamagic feats?
-Magical Ceremonies that can have earth-shattering concequences?
-I second the Wild Mage! WITH The Wild Surge random effect table!
-How about Cantrip magic items?
-Use/day magic weapons? (+2 bonus 3/day, Vorpral 1/day, etc?)
-Comperable spells for overused spells, a la Shocking Grasp?
A feat to treat any one/two spell(s) like it's on your spell list!

Maybe consider the healing potions "Medkits?"

I like the idea of the Simulacrums being "Save Points." Cool idea.

He'll be sure to want "Identify" to figure out "Rares"... lol

Maybe make his Buffs "Potion of Strength" or "Elixer of Intelect"

Call his Mutagen his "Special Power"

Sounds like a God for the Smaller races. Seriously, there is only so much the munchkins can take, it would be an interesting way for them to get payback... sorta like Gorum spontaneously showed up for War, This guy shows up for the little people.

Chaos and Artifice - Gnome

Community and Travel - Halfling

Maybe a hidden demi-plane that is only available for folks less than four feet tall?

Feel free to flesh this out to your humor's content. Just remember: Little People are People too!

Rule of common sense, a 1st level spell should not be an insta-kill without Serious Investment.

Rule it that it becomes solid from the place it was touched and radiate out, pushing the person inside out. I'd concede it would cause damage, or at least a Combat Maneuver style effect (bull rush, trip, dirty), but not an instant entombment leading to suffication.

just my 2cp

I think it doesn't quite work like that.

The "Considered to have the spell on your list" means you don't. But for things with prereqs, like Magic item Creation, you can now make those items. You don't make an Extract of the spell when you use the extract slot, you instead "prepare and cast this spell as an arcane spell" - like a Wizard.

On the plus side, you can meta-magic the spell, so if you wanted your alchemist to cast a Lightening Bolt here's your chance. Also, since it's using a higher slot, the DC to dispel would be 1 higher.

Also lets you skip UMD for using items with this spell, so you can wand it to your hearts content.

The extract "Universal Formula" may be a way around it, with GM permission. Of course, with GM permission, they may allow you to choose a spell from ANY list and consider it an extract recipie and not a spell to cast. Talk to your GM is my advice.

Mobile: I've always liked the idea of Golems with Guns. Just the idea of this giant rock/stone/wood/wahterver thing walking around with a cannon in his chest.

Maybe a Balistae on a Wagon? Automated pocket minions you can throw out like Pokeballs? Maybe ones that fly with vials of Alchemic Fire as a payload?

Stationary? Bound outsiders (elementals, devils, demons, angels, legendary slugs), enchantments, magical traps, animated buildings, undead manning artillary, intelligent thorn bushes? How about WALL OF (anything - Fire?)?

just my 2cp.

web and spark?

fireball?

Tell them there's a Gold Piece at the bottom of a lake?

a horse with spiked armor?

(lesser) can only be destroyed by a Smite from an Antipaladin

(Major) can only be destroyed by a Sunder attack from a major artifact weapon

Maybe it can be turned into a non-artifact by a ritual from the god of Toil? (name escapes me.) The time / level requirement for this ritual depends on if it is a minor or major artifact.

3rd party, but the Scientific Innovator always looked neat to me, and it's a free download on Paizo! Woot!

ok, we have Studies, Jails, primeval forest, cities, and a performance area. How about entertainment?

1) an eternal tavern that Caiden could be found in. Rough-cut wood timber, portal in would be tavern enterance. Cloak room / weapons check at the door, rooms to rent for sleep, a couple everful kegs in the back, and the ability to enter from anywhere by casting a low-level spell to turn any door into the "tavern door." Critters are Barmen and Wenches, with unseen servants to clean.

2) a place of quiet reflection and peace. Masseuses, white sand raked in patterns, oriental styled things, and several dojos to train or practice your calligraphy.

3) A brothel. 'Nuff said.

4) A gladiator pit. Colloseum style seating, room to move on the dirt, controllable weather, and Monster Summon II as an inherent power for anyone to use to attack OTHER SUMMONS ONLY.

5) A maze. Think the movie "The Cube" done with magic and mayhem, with scrying sensors EVERYWHERE for Crystal Balls to watch the carnage from. Use Summoned Monsters for regular episodes, or Condemned Prisoners, with Skillful Adventurers for "Sweeps Week."

remember, people can CHOOSE to be resurrected or not. The rangers character may not WANT to leave the afterlife he's in. If you want, let the cleric's god look at him and say "Oh, you guys.... just this once, have it back." That way, they'll use the Rez scroll but not lose it. Even have the Ranger Player roleplay the "Thanks for the adventure, but I'm going to go hang out with my Dad that died when I was a kid..." It could be a cool moment for even the Veterans to "Ooh" and "Aah" about.

Anything that gives role-playing FLAVOR!

What about the Alchemist archtype "Scientific Innovator?" it's an antimagic alchemist. Search for the PDF on this site, too lazy to look it up right now...

1 person marked this as a favorite.

available here, this archtype specifically makes the Alchemy ability of an Alchemist an Extraordinary ability at tenth level, and the Craft Device makes items that "function normally in Antimagic Fields or areas of Wild Magic."

My question is, does this also make them non-dispellable items? Since they aren't magic powered, but Science powered, are they targetable by Dispel Magic, or can an effect from these items be supressed by other means? Or is it like the "Magic and Psionics" debate?

Also on another train of thought, other than the gun-toting alchemist build, is there anything else in there that I may have overlooked that looks like awesome-sauce to anyone? And what would be your first pick of Deed?

The character concept I have is for a Mythic campaign for a gnome whom has traveled around a bit, and ended up studying in Alkenstar to gain his class level. Bredth of Experience seems like an awesome first-level feat for a wandering merchant/craftsman/tinker. Eventually I plan on Explosive Missile for the rocket launcher idea for combat, and being the crafty support for the party.

You could consider it two pools: one pool for general use (5 rounds ever or per day) and one pool for Kaiju Battles (5 rounds then 1 round rebooting repeating) that gets pooled together per robot that becomes merged.

Then, when they merge together, they could give OTHER synergistic bonuses to Voltron. The bonuses are unique compared to the robots that go into Voltron, but pool together to the whole. So if one robot runs 5 rounds a day, and another one runs for 3, then merged together they run for 8.

You said something about different animals being put together, so it would make sence that they would have different specialties. Maybe the Bird robot would give perception bonus and attack bonus, while the bull would give strength bonus and HP, while the lion would...

Make them no better than level-equivalent summons by themselves, but pooled together could be really interesting. Consider Digi-mon, Voltron, and Power Rangers as inspiration.

Don't really know what I'm talking about, but it seems thematically cool.

here is this... Hope you like it! :)

All Summoners, because ick.

an all Alchemist party would be kinda nifty, but an all Paladin party would rock the socks off of so many things.

I like the idea of an All Bard party... LOTS of variety there.
