Lucia nods in agreement with Siobhan. "It's true. YOU never do know how someone feels about you. So people - someone - will evenutally have to tell you, insetead of waiting for you to work it out for yourself." Wwhich is probly a good thing on teh whole, she reflects. If the gods made paladins who were quick on the uptake it would make it difuclut to get away with anythhing. "Of course they should wait until they're ready to tel you in their own time. So I won't say any more on the ssubject, but people should knowo they can alwasy come and talk to me and I prommise not to laugh at them. Like I siad, there''s a lot going on and I let it get to me. Lucia feels a bit mutinous when Cirthana calls her a girl - she'll be 25 next year, OK year after next but still! She's not a kid like Siobhan or Vyan, she's a grown up. She's deeply grateful for the concern though, and the healing, and she hugs the priestess back in return. The other suggestion though - that she change her songs - makes her fell even *more* mutinous. "Music wants to be free" she mutters in reply. When the priestess has gone, Lucia spends some time in thought on her own, which she doesn't do very much of. She looks at the candles glowing in the chapel, and the statue of Iomedeae looking stern and judgy and ready to do some smiting. Yeah? Well get too it, lady. There's no shortage of people in this town for you to get working on. I cna't do it all by myself, you know? She plucks some of the strings on her lute, absently. She may only be talented by the standarts of this small town, but music is her thing and she enjoys it. She starts to play some more, giving voice to her thoughts about godesses and their inability to get off their butts and give some help. "Oh Lady, won’t you help me, come to my defence?
Her voice echose nicely off the stone of the chapel and she nods. It's a start, it needs a few more verses but she's happy with what she's got so far.

For Sasha anger is a tool rather than a state of mind and like all tools you put it away when you're done with it. She switches the comm link back to private and Gunny can hear the grin in her voice as she responds. "Hilarious Gunny, cos I can hear you just fine - in fact, it sounds like you're telling me you don't wanna be drinking in my bar any more, did I hear that right? Going teetotal? Nothing but water for you from now on? I can make that happen." The idle chat passes the time while they all wait to see if the other side responds.

Sasha's definitely not even supposed to be anywhere near her bar right now, she's confiened to sickbay but she was damn wll going to get the bar open for tonight. Everyone needs it, and that means a happy payday. She gives Diegon a tight grimce of a pain-filled smile as she pours him another drink. "Mind how you go, Gunny," she warns him. She has a feeling she's talking to the wall but so it goes. She winces again and leans against the counter of the bar, counting under her breath while she waits for the pain to clear from unbearable back to jsut agonising. She's been delibratly refusing the morphine drip, she needs a clear head. But this isn't going to work, she's about to pass out. She gives another grimace and takes a hit of the painkillers, jsut enough to get through the next couple of hours. She gives Gunny a nod as she walks away to find Corporal Bodie, who is as neat as ever - probaly sleeps at attention - but red around the eyes. The loss of Starr and Buck has hit him hard, Logistics is not where you expect to see action and death. "Corpral. The place is yours for tonight, and by direct order you are in charge of the cash flow. If Suggs tries to order otherwise, tell her that. Use some of the scrip we take in to get something for their families, yeah? Buck had a husband." She can't remember his name, FFS. What is wrong with her? "And Starr's girlfriend-" S%~*. S!*$. S~~#. Starr's girlfriend is 5 months pregnant. She can't deal with this right now. "Just - get them something, yeah? I'm trusting you with this." Oof, the painkillers really have opened her up. She's getting maudlin. Walking away quickly, she makes a point of mingling at the various tables for as long as she can, chatting with the regulars but she's aware that she's not providing the personal touch she usually does, and they can see it too. She's hurting, in more ways than one. "Sorry, scuse me, gotta go, gotta go." The orderly promised to look the other way when she left (for a price of course), but only on condition she got back to sickbay beofre the shift changed. She's grateful for the excuse to slip away. That - for Sasha - couts as letting loose, I think. She *never* normally gives that much away. Once she's back in the hospital bed, she treats herself to another hit of morphine before pushing the drip well out of her reach. Pickig up her comm unit, she places a call but the beep tells her that the person at the other end is offline right now, please leave a meassage. "Thea, it's Sasha here. Alroight there, how ya doin? I heerd they put ya roight back on filtration duty." Sasha's from the Betjeman slums on Ninmahon - a wretched hive, whatever the Corax have done to it counts as an improvement - she worked hard to lose the accent but the strain she's under, and the drugs, make it more obvious. The men who find it a turn-on are the ones she's learned not to date. "I've set someink up for you - when you hit the shower, go to the last cubicle on the left. Once you're in, the lock's going to freeze up and it won't reset for half an hour, okay? You'll be in the shower for thirty. minutes. With hot water for the duration." She emphasises the last bit. (If she ever finds out what Elias Morel thinks of quartermasters, the man will have lumpy bedding, expired rations and all the other miserable ways she can think of screwing with him.) "And when you're clean, come find me here in sickbay, ok? I think we need a few words face to face." When she'd first woken up enough to realise she was alive and warm *in here* rather than cold and dead *out there* her first thought was to relaise that she owed someone - probably several someones - big time. It wasn't exactly a nice thought.

I like that, let's run with it. Q3 Who saved things? I think Oscar did. After the war ended, Serpents was declassified before being reclassified 25 years ago - long enough that it's "always" been classified. Oscar realised that the base location wasn't as secure as everyone thought but who listens to a civilian, right? So he's waving around documents he's not supposed to have and trying to get someone to listen, which gets him an interview with Intelligence (they still need a better name). Thankfully Commander Hooke - who is meltingly competent - immediately realised Oscar is in fact right. Too late to stop things going wrong but enough that not everyone dies. Q4 Sasha was injured - I've spent too much of the last 12+ months in hospital I may as wel get some RP from it. Fuel is Supply, vwhich is the Quartermaster's responsibility anyway. Sasha and two of her command Pfc Starr and Pfc Buck were outside the Cerberus supervising the pipeline hookup with Serpentis. When the explosion happened - it's *never* lupus and it's *always* an explosion - Starr and Buck were killed instantly and Sasha was impaled by a piece of rebar through her midriff, puncturing her EVA - as the alarms sounded in her ear and her lifeline to Cerberus snapped, sending her drifting helpless into space and making it a race between blood loss and asphyxiation, she briefly envied them both.
Things are speeding up! I think that is a good sign. @DMDM ufffff if guys knew how attractive real competence is there'd be a *lot* more of it. Cmdr Hooke sounds just fine :) On underlings: yes, the Nexus NPC is from the rulebook and he'd be one of Sasha's underlings and her contact for the Nexus when she needs to get in touch with them. Bodie and Stuggs sound *great!* I think Sgt Ada Stuggs is exactly the type of working class middle aged woman that the ruperts who think they run the army look down on, which makes her very useful to Sasha. Instead of leverage though I think Sasha did something *nice* for Stuggs which gained her loyalty. Maybe Stuggs son was injured in an accdient - the sort of injury you never wake up from - and Sasha made sure he was put on a ventilator and is made comfortable somewhere? Stuggs goes to visit with him on her day off. LIST OF PEEPS Elbowtotheface: Devin, Taurus Marine
The vast leviathan rears back as Fin's actions cause it to flinch and Jonah takes full advantage, running past and into the building behind. What he sprints into is the stuff of nightmares. Bodies, doezens of them, sprawl across the floor, which is slikc with blood enough that the Whisper has to catch himself from falling over. On second glance, it's the same body, with the same wound, the scene endlessly repeating itself as the grim-faced redhead fires her pistol at the young woman, killing her instantly with a headshot - even as the body falls to the floor, slithering down the pile of corpses and rolling in the slick of blood, the shooter fires again at her target, killing her with the exact same shot, the exact same wound, the exact same spray of blood, bone and brain. "Do you like it?" The voice is behind Jonah - whichever way he twists and turns, it's always juuuust behind him. "It's my meomorial to myself." The scene pauses, frozen in an instant of time, Jonah can see the regret and resolve in Lolo's eyes and the flare of the gunshot. He can even see the bullet, hanging in the air on the way to its inevitable destination. "Well?" Her voice is impatient. "I asked you a question."
@Fin - yuo succesffuly protect Jonah from teh Butcher, but the complciation is that's *all* you can do. This is his fight and he has to win it. @Jonah - you succedd in understanding how to defeat this foe that your own imaginiation has created. You can win the fight against the butcher, no more rolls needed. I have some ideas on how to do that, but why get in the way of your own creativity? :) Teh complication is that your own identity/self-image/whatever is changing as a result of this internal struggle. The outward sign of this is that your spirit mask cracks from side to side and is completley broken. You can use a downtime action (no roll needed) to get/make/buy/find a new one
26 FEB 847 IE: you might want to click here to refrersh your memory :) Riana sneezes as she unfolds the latest of several old map scrolls. Dust and scholrship go hand in hadn, but this is taking it far even for her. She gives Fin a meaningful look. "When we're done here, you're buying me drinks. ALL teh drinks." She coughs again to clear her throaht as the dust swirls, refusing to settle. While Finraeth makes notes and frantically tries to arragne everything into a coherent timeline - OK, Tanner Street and its gardens were torn down in 752, and the terracing they replaced was then itself demolished when the new spec of levianthan hunters needed wider drydocks to bring teh hulls onshore, but then teh new wave of refugese in 820 needed more housing, so Bonewrack Dock was quickly decomissioned and a bunch of tenements put in, which then burned down 10 yearas ago, lots of angry gohosts probably, and the Bureau of Procurement held the land until last year when it was sold to persons unknownd and on and on and on, for each part of the distrcit adjacent to where Lolo fired the fatal shot - Riana looks at him criticaly. "Why'd you leave, eh? It's clear you can do this, and I know a lot of people turned their backs on you btu not all of us did. You could have applied for a scholarship, you know." She's clearlyu about to say more, but Fin is saved from a posbily awkawrd conversation when she looks down at another of the documents and her jaw drops open. "Broken stars! Are you seeing what I'm seeing?!" In 547 a levaithan washed ashore on the docks. Not quite dead yet, it tore down a huge part of the district before finally bing put down. Its blood and flesh were quickly taken, but most of its bones were used in reconstrcutcion. Several of its vertebrae form part of the cobbles of Lev Street (wonder how that got its name?), and its vast ribs still form part of the rafters of some of the buildings nearby. Riana whistles as she reads over Fin's shoulder. "Dread Emperor! Yuou'd think this would be more widely known, right?" Waht she does'nt know, and Fin has no need to tell her, is that Lev Street runs rigtht by the building wher Lolo shot Katya dead. Many of teh buildinga around there - as well as part of the street - are literaly made of dead liviathan.

It shouldn't be this easy to find a secret hideout is the frist thought that runs through Fliss' mind. To be fair, not everone has the advantages she's got. And not everyone would call communing with devils an advantage, but you do what you can with what you have. And seeing as how Fliss started with *nohtning*, what she has now is pretty damned good. She tries to focus more on the "good" part of that phrase, and less on the "damned" as she detaches herself from the patch of shadow she's been hiding in for the last hour or so, and swaggers in like she's 10 foot tall instead of barely 2 and a half. "Wotcher. Who's in charge of yer, then?" Fliss had been toying with the idea of saying 'taek me to your leader' but decides against it. She'd prefer them to take her seriously.

She's got crazy big muscles, it's not hard to believe the stories bout Lockport's mutant problem. She towers over everyone else in the Pike, all of them stay out of her way. Spotting Huttn is then jsut a question of seeing who can order Derret around. He doen'st look much, later middle age with iron grey hair, Jonah must have looked past him half a dozne times. The red in his cheeks makes it easy to dismiss him as jsut another drunk, until you realise that it's his temper that gives him that look, not the liquor. He never raises his voice, but anyone he speaks to flinches away as quick as they can. Once Jonah's spotted him, dropping a card into his pocket and tracking the man home - from a safe distance - is chlid's play. He lives deep in the heart of what's clealry Grinder turf, but his house is problaly no different from its neighburs. At least on teh outside.

Seeing that teh Raven is badly hurt, Asiling steps out of the fight for a moment to heal him, calling on her goddess. Maybe shel'll give him some good sense and discpiline along with taht positive energy. Unlikely. There's a difference between faith and blind hope she reminds herself. Burn my Command spell for a CLW CLW on Raven: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
