Seems like a super slow week for PBP all over. All my games are slow. Probably people getting out and enjoying the warm weather before it gets too hot.

I'm very sorry for the long absence everyone. I was getting badly burned out by work especially, and life in general so I took the long holiday weekend to go to the beach and get away for a bit. That made coming back hard, and I just couldn't muster the energy to start back up with regular life. Took few days off for laying on the floor and staring at the ceiling, walking the dog a lot, eating a different kind of salad for every meal including breakfast, and spent one day doing nothing but laying on the couch and binging the entire 4th season of Stranger Things. In sum, avoiding everything.
I'm feeling better now so I'm in the process of getting caught up. Thank you for your patience.

These things happen. Hope you feel better soon, Lemma.

...eating a different kind of salad for every meal including breakfast....
That sounds absolutely horrifying! (Says the doofus who's drinking Pepsi for breakfast while wondering if his tender tummy can handle a couple of english muffins.)
I'm trying to bounce back from a rough stretch myself.
Kintargo GM
Yeah, I'm not sure. However, I'll try to move us on later today, assuming we're all willing to keep trying at this thing. It's been a hard few weeks, and I know my posts have also been sparse, but I want to put forth the question:
How do we proceed from here?
Jessibel L. Aulamaxa
I just found THIS in the Discussion Thread of another game Sarah/Aisling runs. Not good news, but not entirely without hope of her return (eventually).
Maybe the best thing to do is to let the Raven firebomb the torture stage and lets everyone flee. Then, assuming we all escape and meet up again, Aisling is missing. If Sarah can return to the game fairly quickly, Aisling simply had to go to ground for a bit to throw off pursuit; if she can't, maybe we could say she got arrested and possibly do a jailbreak scenario if/when she returns.
***********************************************
That said, right now I think we need a definitive decision on whether or not the Raven's going to follow through on his fire-bombing. The biggest immediate problems I can see with it are:
1) Aisling's got a slower move speed than the rest of the Ravens and likely the dottari; and
2) Notoriety for the organization and especially for the Raven himself is likely to go through the roof. I'm not sure how many other folks in Kintargo wear a raven mask on the city streets, but if anyone witnesses him trying to burn down the torture stage, his (and our) ability to move through the city during the day will likely take a pretty big hit.

The Raven is separated from the group because he intends to run away and some of yall might not be able to keep up. And there's no reason everyone needs to be involved. It's not like there's anything to be gained here lol
Kintargo GM
Alright, that seriously sucks. Hope she heals quickly.
However, I'm still unsure - do the players oppose Raven's course of action, or no? Because if you do, I do think it is fair for someone to be able to stop him first. If no one does, and only their characters would object, I'll consider allowing it.
On the other hand, this does carry a severe risk to the unity of the party, because I cannot imagine that the characters will be at all pleased with the outcome, assuming it goes off.
Lemma Vodice
Hopefully Sarah's doing alright and is on the mend. :(
As a player I don't really care one way or another about the fire bombing. I fully intend to abandon The Raven to whatever extent is necessary to get away without being noticed to be associated with him, and have posted so already.
I think Lemma sees it as juvenile and pointless. Kicking the hornet's nest in a way that only benefits whoever sells them their lumber will probably make things harder since it will be quite public and therefore require some reaction from the dottari. It probably won't aim them at us, but the extra patrols, checkpoints and searches, etc. will make moving around harder and eyes will be peeled for a while.
Lemma also fails to understand why anyone puts up with him since he obviously can't be trusted to do something as simple as walk across the city to ask some questions without acting in ways the are self-destructive. But hey, she just showed up so it isn't her parade to lead; and she doesn't care one whit whether The Raven lives or dies.

Well, if the sentiment in the second part of what I quoted lingers very long, the game won't survive.
That having been said, I think Lemma puts her finger on a problem: leadership. When the game started, I hoped Aisling would take a leadership role, or at least act as a sort of advisor to the Raven to blunt some of his more impetuous decision-making. Normally, I'd try to thrust my PC into more of a decision-making position, but it's tough to do that with Jessibel. First, she was built and has been played as a support character the whole game; second (and more importantly), I've got a lot of player knowledge about this AP. Jessibel works best when she's just throwing out ideas for the other PCs to consider or discard.

I don't fully agree that the Raven's actions are 'juvenile and pointless.' There's something admirable and downright practical about destroying a torture platform before it's actually used to torture someone. The rest of Lemma's points, however, make total sense. I'm not sure why we didn't wait 'til nightfall to try to destroy the platform, though.
Well, actually, I kinda do: Because the Raven's being impetuous. Maybe this mess wouldn't have happened if Aisling had been around. We've all forgotten her mantra: "The revolution will not be improvised!"
Lemma Vodice
Well, a couple of things about where Lemma is at. She may be enthusiastic about the Silver Raven's goals, but she's new and hasn't built any personal bonds with anyone yet. While the various members have generally made good impressions, she's seen nothing constructive from The Raven. He's crept around and spied on her, and is currently pulling the arsonist stunt. So no, she really doesn't care what consequences are visited upon his actions.
Lemma will not be your leader, that's not in her. She's been an outsider all her life, and has had to make her own way. She will cooperate with you all, otherwise she wouldn't have severed herself from the Cult of Nocticula (which was done to protect them) in order to take action. However Lemma is chaotic first and foremost as an individualist, not as an agent of random chaos. Do what you will, but the consequences are yours to bear as well. Don't come crying to her if you skin your knee or lose your head. She's not gentle and she doesn't suffer fools. Most likely pal so far: Nyxra.

That was one of my concerns, yes. Not helped by our own slow posting and my own struggle with burnout, I am concerned that if we can't get the PCs working together, there's... not much that can be done other than trying something else entirely.

Lemma Vodice wrote:...eating a different kind of salad for every meal including breakfast....That sounds absolutely horrifying!
I'm throwing the net fairly wide in what I'm calling salads. Most of them weren't green leafy salads. I was doing various chopped salads mostly, lots of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern ones, along with Asian ones like cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, peppers, almonds and crunchy noodles with sesame dressing. Fairly bulky dishes all in all.
The Raven
That having been said, I think Lemma puts her finger on a problem: leadership.
Oddly enough, I've seen multiple re-recruitments for this game over the years that were specifically looking for a player/PC willing to be the leader. Guess it's a common problem with this AP.
I hoped Aisling would take a leadership role, or at least act as a sort of advisor to the Raven to blunt some of his more impetuous decision-making.
That's pretty much exactly what I was thinking. The Raven can be a leader - he has military training after all - but he's used to working alone and is impulsive and angry. This isn't a leadership issue though. The Raven just thinks this is the opportune time to set something on fire.
I'm not sure why we didn't wait 'til nightfall to try to destroy the platform, though.
Strike while the iron's hot! No one expects sabotage in broad daylight.
Kintargo GM
Would Nyxra be in range of the Raven if she wanted to stop him from doing something incredibly stupid?
For the sake of the game, I'll say "absolutely." She's also quicker than humans on her feet.

I'll get a post up later today moving us forwards. Sorry for the long delay folks, but hopefully we can get this rebellion on the road again.

I'll be posting later today, sorry for the delay. Got caught up in all manner of things.
Kintargo GM
Everyone still here? I'll move you all forwards tomorrow, but I didn't realize you were still waiting on me.
Kintargo GM
It's been awhile since either the Raven or Nyxra posted in-character. With Aisling currently ill, we're left with two active players. So, I'm going to ask you all. Do we really want to continue this? If it's become too much for people, we can stop, or they can bow out as necessary.
Jessibel L. Aulamaxa
Still here, still interested and invested. I love "Hell's Rebels."
Also, I'm intentionally having Jessibel be a 'spotlight hog' at the moment (while most players are busy/quiet/indisposed) in an effort to keep the game moving forward. When someone else steps up, she'll revert to her opinionated but support-oriented role.
ADDENDUM: Lemma snagged Post #3000!

Hello all
Well *that* turned out to be unpleaesant. One of the ribs I broke last yuear re-broke and punctured my lung, thankfully my bf was around and drove me straight to hosipital. Trhow in a post-op infecton, some stupid-powerful antibiotics and painkillers and I'm up and about again, but stil moving slowly.
It looks like I've missed a fair bit, so jsut thought I'd check to see if it's still ok for me to come back in?

Holy crap, I hope you're doing better! You're more than welcome to stick with us, Aisling.

I do't know whether that many hellnknighs plus the guard is a tough challenge or an impossible one. If it's the first, with a few rounds of pre-cassting (shield of faith, magic weapon) then we might be able to. If it's the second, then obvously not :(
Kintargo GM
They are all roughly CR 4. Attacking here would, indeed, be very unwise.
Jessibel L. Aulamaxa
37F and clear skies? I'm moving to Kintargo!
I've got temperatures of 96+ 4 of the next 5 days (with high humidity to go with it, just for laughs).
I'm already seeing the first signs of wickedwitchitis: Every time I stand up and move I start to scream, "I'm melting! Melting!!"
If I stop posting tomorrow, it likely means that I perished riding a bus to or from an eye exam appointment. Only 93F tomorrow, but I just heard the dew point is gonna be 75 (mid-tropical). Should be fun!
Stay cool, people!

"Um... he demanded evidence we are not thugs just in this for the street fighting, so an example of us being subtle and willing to work within the law when possible."
As someone who's carhacter is LG barrister, I would *love* to find a way of doing this that works within the law. Haeve we missed something?
Kintargo GM
"Within the law" is a relative term here. He is disinclined to favor violence against legitimate authorities in this particular instance - as a test, if nothing else. He wants to see that you all are able to work with words and rules as opposed to just violence. If you have ideas, though, I'm more than open to figuring out some.
Aisling Talbot
Taht's the problem - I dan't think of anything in this situatoin that would work - unless we could somehow get teh right paperwork and jsut walk out with the prisoners.
Kintargo GM
Yep. That was Octavio's suggestion - to forge transfer papers.
Jessibel L. Aulamaxa
For weekly organization actions, I suggest Gather Info (on info needed for our forged transfer order) for the Fushi Sisters, Recruit Supporters, and maybe Earn Gold.
