Then I leave you with Cliffs of Dover by Eric Johnson. One of my favorite instrumentals.

Yeah. I think I am going to have to pull out. There are just too many people and not enough structure. It is both confusing and, honestly, annoying that the more actions one posts the more they can do while everyone else is forced to catch up. Its rather unfair in my opinion. I can understand the need to keep things moving but not at the expense of other people's enjoyment. I liked the premise, my character, and several other characters but I can't follow along. And we seem to be gaining more characters as we go which is only going to hamper us later unless some ground rules can be laid down.

So have fun and peace out.

Round 6

One done, two to go, the bard thinks as he knocks another arrow and fires at the next gremlin.

I move only if I have to stay within the shortbows range to hit a target not in melee.

Shortbow: 1d20 + 4d6d6 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + (3, 1, 2, 6, 6, 3, 2, 1, 5, 2, 2, 5, 1, 3, 1) + (3) + 1 = 49 0_0 whoops. Um. Because Paizo saves rolls I think I'll just try again that way I can't plan for these accidentally. This is what happens when you mess up an end tag.

Shortbow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Damage+AS: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Male Human Bard (Thundercaller) 1 | HP 10/10 | AC 18 | Touch 14 | FF 14 | CMD 15 | CMB +0 | Fort +2 | Ref +6 | Will +2 (+4 Charm and Compulsion) | Init +4 | Per +4

Stairs

Surprisingly there are already rules for this. I am assuming we are on a left spiral, gradual staircase. The spiral is probably big enough that no one is at an advantage but the stairs are also not difficult terrain. However, high ground is a factor and there is no running or charging.

Male Human Bard (Thundercaller) 1 | HP 10/10 | AC 18 | Touch 14 | FF 14 | CMD 15 | CMB +0 | Fort +2 | Ref +6 | Will +2 (+4 Charm and Compulsion) | Init +4 | Per +4

Not up stairs.

Male Human Bard (Thundercaller) 1 | HP 10/10 | AC 18 | Touch 14 | FF 14 | CMD 15 | CMB +0 | Fort +2 | Ref +6 | Will +2 (+4 Charm and Compulsion) | Init +4 | Per +4

Posting in initiative order is far too time consuming. You have to make certain concessions to play on line. Rule of thumb is try to anticipate what those that go before you are going to do and plan for it. Also write down multiple courses of actions in case one of them can no longer be used.

Shortbow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
damage+Arcane Strike: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Using one of the cold iron arrows, Michael let's fly another shot, hoping to hit something this time.

I should be 90 up. I have used a total of three move actions to get up the stairs. And I am for any gremlin close and not in combat with someone.

Male Human Bard (Thundercaller) 1 | HP 10/10 | AC 18 | Touch 14 | FF 14 | CMD 15 | CMB +0 | Fort +2 | Ref +6 | Will +2 (+4 Charm and Compulsion) | Init +4 | Per +4

Continue up the stairs. Fairly certain I am still not close enough. I only got 30 the first time.

Male Human Bard (Thundercaller) 1 | HP 10/10 | AC 18 | Touch 14 | FF 14 | CMD 15 | CMB +0 | Fort +2 | Ref +6 | Will +2 (+4 Charm and Compulsion) | Init +4 | Per +4

With the gremlins out of sight and the wounded priest being cared for, Michael grabs some more arrows and heads up the stairs after them.

Move to grab 10 cold iron arrows and move towards and up the stairs. Unlikely to get far.

Male Human Bard (Thundercaller) 1 | HP 10/10 | AC 18 | Touch 14 | FF 14 | CMD 15 | CMB +0 | Fort +2 | Ref +6 | Will +2 (+4 Charm and Compulsion) | Init +4 | Per +4

I think I have taken 2.

Male Human Bard (Thundercaller) 1 | HP 10/10 | AC 18 | Touch 14 | FF 14 | CMD 15 | CMB +0 | Fort +2 | Ref +6 | Will +2 (+4 Charm and Compulsion) | Init +4 | Per +4

I don't know how you could possible keep track of what's going on, DM because I certainly can't. I can't tell anymore if we are even following the initiative order. I haven't seen an update on the rounds and it seems like some people are getting more actions just because they are posting more frequently. And I am not familiar with the layout of Notre Dame enough to conceptualize where everyone is.

Male Human Bard (Thundercaller) 1 | HP 10/10 | AC 18 | Touch 14 | FF 14 | CMD 15 | CMB +0 | Fort +2 | Ref +6 | Will +2 (+4 Charm and Compulsion) | Init +4 | Per +4

Then if the pastor is stable, Michael will help Charmaine move him out of the line of fire. Michael has a sneaking suspicion that another "accident" is about to occur and hopes the ones perusing the Gremlins are ready for it.

Move to Charmaine. Standard to aid in moving him.

Male Human Bard (Thundercaller) 1 | HP 10/10 | AC 18 | Touch 14 | FF 14 | CMD 15 | CMB +0 | Fort +2 | Ref +6 | Will +2 (+4 Charm and Compulsion) | Init +4 | Per +4

How far up id the belfry and is there a rope nearby to ring the bells? ;)

Though he spotted them first he was one of the last to react. They were just so...ugly and small. How could such little monsters wreck so much havoc. Delaying though, did have the added advantage of seeing the others ineffective attacks. Thus he moves over to the acolyte and take one of the cold iron arrows. He pauses briefly to give the arrow a little magic before spinning and firing at the nearest creature.

Shortbow (cold iron): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Move action: move to acolyte. Swift action: Arcane Strike. Standard action: Nock and fire.

So what is the initiative order?

Male Human Bard (Thundercaller) 1 | HP 10/10 | AC 18 | Touch 14 | FF 14 | CMD 15 | CMB +0 | Fort +2 | Ref +6 | Will +2 (+4 Charm and Compulsion) | Init +4 | Per +4

Gargoyles didn't follow us. Now we fight gremlins.

Male Human Bard (Thundercaller) 1 | HP 10/10 | AC 18 | Touch 14 | FF 14 | CMD 15 | CMB +0 | Fort +2 | Ref +6 | Will +2 (+4 Charm and Compulsion) | Init +4 | Per +4

A little friendly advice:

Everyone should update their alias to have basic stats like mine. Most do but there are a few still missing them.

Initiative Monkey-things will move a lot faster if you just roll init for us. That way we can roll right into combat instead of waiting a day or more for everyone's initiative (You can save a block of text that rolls dice for us and just copy and past for combat). You can do the same for group rolls like perception too rather than calling for perception.

Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

Male Human Bard (Thundercaller) 1 | HP 10/10 | AC 18 | Touch 14 | FF 14 | CMD 15 | CMB +0 | Fort +2 | Ref +6 | Will +2 (+4 Charm and Compulsion) | Init +4 | Per +4

Seeing people moving in the same direction, Michael follows the crowd only to lay eyes on a horrible scene. A priest buried beneath an enormous bell. The acolyte out front mentioned this but it was another thing all together to see it. Michael wasn't a physician but he was fairly sure there was nothing more they could do with his midsection crushed. Of more pressing concern was the culprit the acolyte mentioned. He said gremlins were the ones that dropped it. Acting quickly, Michael swung his guitar behind him and pulled out his shortbow. While knocking an arrow he scanned the rafters for the offending creatures.

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

Male Human Bard (Thundercaller) 1 | HP 10/10 | AC 18 | Touch 14 | FF 14 | CMD 15 | CMB +0 | Fort +2 | Ref +6 | Will +2 (+4 Charm and Compulsion) | Init +4 | Per +4

Oblivious to Tevaga's pain because of a lack of communication, Michael whistles as he peers up at the soaring ceiling of Notre Dame. It is just as impressive inside as it is out. Even better is that the Gargoyle's didn't seem to follow. He plays a few notes to test the acoustics of the building and is not disappointed. But this place is supposedly the home of a necromancer. He needed to stay sharp.

Male Human Bard (Thundercaller) 1 | HP 10/10 | AC 18 | Touch 14 | FF 14 | CMD 15 | CMB +0 | Fort +2 | Ref +6 | Will +2 (+4 Charm and Compulsion) | Init +4 | Per +4

Well. Better move while one is distracted.

Michael whistles to get everyone's attention and nods towards the entrance. Hopefully they understand they should move quickly while one is lost in sorrow. When everyone is in he will charge in as fast as he can.

Male Human Bard (Thundercaller) 1 | HP 10/10 | AC 18 | Touch 14 | FF 14 | CMD 15 | CMB +0 | Fort +2 | Ref +6 | Will +2 (+4 Charm and Compulsion) | Init +4 | Per +4

Michael couldn't understand what the young man was saying but he could understand the gargoyles. Cursed to defend the cathedral from all, even those they were meant to protect. An awful curse to say the least. As he had that thought he realized it was an understatement. One of the gargoyles hurled a chunk of mortar at an acolyte of the church with great accuracy. Once he hit the ground he did not get up. The gargoyles lament afterward gave him an idea. Hopefully this all did not need to end in the gargoyles destruction for they were clearly acting against their will. Playing off their obvious emotions, he switches from the cheer tune earlier to a sorrowful lament.

Try to Fascinate them. DC 12 Will.

Iniative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

*edit pretty awful rolls so far. Hopefully that will change during combat.

Male Human Bard (Thundercaller) 1 | HP 10/10 | AC 18 | Touch 14 | FF 14 | CMD 15 | CMB +0 | Fort +2 | Ref +6 | Will +2 (+4 Charm and Compulsion) | Init +4 | Per +4

And if Tevaga only speaks Slavic, that whole opening roleplay would have been a lot less effective and we wouldn't be where we are. So I think we should reinstate Common to smooth things over.

Male Human Bard (Thundercaller) 1 | HP 10/10 | AC 18 | Touch 14 | FF 14 | CMD 15 | CMB +0 | Fort +2 | Ref +6 | Will +2 (+4 Charm and Compulsion) | Init +4 | Per +4

I believe Latin was the main language in Italy at the time. And we have a real problem in that we have no "Common" language. And since me, Hisao, and Tevaga effectively speak one language, it is unlikely we would have been able to communicate at all.

Male Human Bard (Thundercaller) 1 | HP 10/10 | AC 18 | Touch 14 | FF 14 | CMD 15 | CMB +0 | Fort +2 | Ref +6 | Will +2 (+4 Charm and Compulsion) | Init +4 | Per +4

At the name Conflgratious, Michael misses his first note since they began to walk the streets of Paris. And it was loud enough to not be easily missed. He stays silent, however, and looks at his guitar like it was the one at fault. He picks up the tune quickly and continues on as if it never happened.

Male Human Bard (Thundercaller) 1 | HP 10/10 | AC 18 | Touch 14 | FF 14 | CMD 15 | CMB +0 | Fort +2 | Ref +6 | Will +2 (+4 Charm and Compulsion) | Init +4 | Per +4

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Michael sees a huge church.

Male Human Bard (Thundercaller) 1 | HP 10/10 | AC 18 | Touch 14 | FF 14 | CMD 15 | CMB +0 | Fort +2 | Ref +6 | Will +2 (+4 Charm and Compulsion) | Init +4 | Per +4

And that is how you decide marching order. Based on Character motivation not mechanical aspects. Tevaga seems head strong and Iommi has the knowledge of the city which is why they are in front. If we went mechanically then Hisao should be in the front most likely, for trap finding. But we haven't even gotten to the cathedral yet and so shouldn't really worry about such things. The reason I stay on pbp boards is because it is easier to stay in character and I have time to think about what my character would say, something I am not that great at as an introvert.

Michael has been following the group close to Paddy. He picked up the rogues whistled tune and added some harmony with his guitar. When they reached the Cathedral, he couldn't help but whistle in awe at the grandeur of the massive church.

Any outside damage from the sound earlier and anyone preventing us from getting in?

If you are going to describe actions mechanically it should been done with the out of character tags.

i.e. Move Action: stuff
Standard Action: stuff

Normal font is used for describing the action.

i.e. Tyr pulls back on the bow string, takes careful aim, and fires, all within a heartbeat.

The rest is correct.

You should. It is gloriously dark and beautifully drawn. Its a great manga based off the two clans in your backstory. The Koga and the Iga. And I remember now. You up for consideration in the Hell-Scarred and War Torn game since we lost a player. Sorry you didn't get chosen but we needed a group face and socialite so bard fit better.

Hisao: I knew I recognized that backstory. I saw it before in one of the recruitments, though I can't remember which. It stuck because it is based off one of my favorite manga's, Basilisk.

Unknown and unnoticed by the others Michael sat near the Halflings providing entertainment. He watched with a patrons delight but listened with a musicians ear. They were good. Not distracting but setting a light mood for the conversations around the tavern. They too noticed his instrument and welcomed him to play. He smoothly joined their duet to make a trio of merry musicians, taking lead from the two halflings. But when their sonorous sound was disrupted by the bells falling only he remained unfazed. His journey here to France had taught him much about how to maintain rhythm and composure in battle...and about loss. His music subtly shifted to a haunting melody but picked up soon after. After the display with the guards and the wench he excused himself from the trio.

Still playing he walked by the guards and, with a few well timed notes empowered by magic, shifted one mans drink to fall in his lap. Dancing around the sodden man he approaches the adventurers seeking to remove the gremlin menace. He gives a flourish on his guitar and another with his rapier, trying to show a little of his skill. And with one final note on his guitar a thin material weaves its way above his head and reads Michael. Obviously this is his name though it is strange he doesn't speak it.

I just flew in from Rome and boy are my arms tired. Ba-dum-tss.

So yeah. Other game had a bard-like character so I am switching teams to keep things even. Fits a little better with my backstory anyway. He is a mute bard, native of Italy, and Latin speaking. And yes I said mute. He will be communicating through a combination of music, prestidigitation, written words and interpretive dance. All these different languages beyond the normal is going to make things difficult for or Linguist, whoever that may turn out to be.

To Tyr, you can follow our lead in posting etiquette and google paizo pbp posting guide yourself.

Ruladin probably saw cleric and didn't realize Evangelist gave him bardic abilities. Seeing as my character fled to France I figured that would have been the best place to start. But since teams were being divided for balance I wasn't too concerned.

As the downtrodden citizens of the ancient city of Rome go about their day, one citizen tries to break the morass of daily monotone with a little music. He plays by the gates of the Vatican. And though the song isn't bad he seems distracted, constantly looking over at the gates.

Perform (String): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Eventually he notices that the people continue to ignore his attempts to relieve their sorrow-filled hearts. He stops the song abruptly and goes into a happier, more upbeat tune that finally draws attention.

Perform (String): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

He is a handsome lad with a wiry build and shining smile. His clothes are little dingy from the rode but seem well made. He plays guitarrra latina (Like a modern guitar but smaller) with decent skill and with more than a little magic. For protection, he carries at his side a thin bladed sword with a buckler and shortbow on his back. As he plays and children gather performs a little magic as well. Some minor prestidigitation to amuse them. And though he is fully into the performance now, he still watches the gate from time to time.

Dotting in. Might want to put a link on the other page for here. Had to go through your profile to find it.

Are we all playing on this thread or is there another for Rome?

Good thing I popped in when I did. Character is finally finished. Had to make some major changes so he wouldn't suck or die in the early levels. It's really hard to make a bard that can't use any of the vocal performs and uses an instrument as main source of performances and as verbal component. Means he can't fight and play at the same time so had to add dance. Now at least he is a decent fencer until level 3 when I will be using copious castings of Sound Burst which is what I was aiming for. Using sound as a weapon as well as moving people. Also going to add a few of the neat Masterpieces available. Almost changed my concept for Ancients' Flight and still might but the Dragon and the First King is nice too.

Build is done except for Traits and Backstory. Be done with it tomorrow. Website going down put me behind. Short story is he is a mute bard who found a voice in music. Even then the only one that truly understood what he was saying was his childhood friend and eventual lover. Unfortunately she was taken by the dragon for her beauty, both physically and vocally. So if someone wants to stop the dragon they will find no one more willing.
