I suspect Vigilante will work best for you, although I am not familiar enough with all of the options to advise on an exact build.

One of the difficulties of making a memorable assassin, is that generally other then the kills they leave behind, they aren't visible at all, and when they are finally tracked down, they aren't necessarily all that formidable (being able to sneak in and kill someone isn't the same thing as being able to succeed in a straight up fight against multiple opponents.)

Vigilante could help a lot with that, letting you have 'the assassin' be part of the game in their social guise (what if the hard bitten elven detective investigating these crimes for the Mage Corps is actually the killer, driven to revenge for one too many excesses by the Mage's.) There are tons of available options, and I think the best would be if the social identity was able to provide the party information and clues about the assassin (careful to not provide too many, but things like motives, 'getting the message out'.) That could actually help focus on the assassins nature and make her memorable as well as the fun of a npc the party thought was helpful was actually the enemy. One caution though, you need to have at least a couple of other prominent NPCs with a similar relation to the party, or the 'helpful' one will stand out too much.

I'd also look at the Red Mantis Assassin prestige class. Obviously your assassin isn't going to have this exactly, but I think it is one of the 'best', by which I mean most dangerous assassin packages against a single foe. The prayer attack in particular is quite vicious. I could see a special set of religious feats or vigilante powers that you build for this NPC or reflavoring the Red Mantis into a Nocticulan based prestige class (seductive attack anyone?) Another possibility would be a magic item, probably an intelligent one, that granted an ability somewhat like this.

Thank you for the reply. I do plan on having the players interact with her a lot, as they're all playing soldiers part of the occupation force for the city. She was defitenly going to be a helper NPC and Vigilante seemed like a good class to pick.

I will defitenly look more at the Red Mantis Prestige class and see if I can make a more Nocticulan version for it.

After a long absence, I am returning to Pathfinder and am a little rusty. I need some help building an antagonist for my new campaign.

She's an elven Nocticulan assassin who specalizes in killing mages and who is going to be a constant terror for the Alliance Mage Corps in the city that my players are going to be in. However, Im at a loss on how to build her. I know I want her to be Level 12, but am not sure of class or fighting style. I was thinking either Slayer or Vigilante, as goining undetected between kills is a big thing for her. So I ask the optimizers here, what can I do to make this lusty, stabby elf girl a terror to remember?

Think the paranoid voice in the back of your head with a pulse. It hides in your head and whispers just enough to make you think you heard something but not enough for you to be sure, he's the blur on the edge of your vision that makes you think that your door just creaked open and someone snuck in, she's the thing that makes the phrase "You look tired" from Dr. Who crush kings.

In a word, Dope.

That said, it suffers from one of the most annoying editing decisions amidst all the freaking smaller quasi/demideities in its section.

That is suitably creepy. Much different than what I thought he/she/it would be though (was thinking it had to do with the fear of being forgotten). What is the annoying editing descision for it if I may ask?

No, pretty much all the races got a bunch of stuff for them.

Huh? Well according to above list, grindylows, tritons, adaros and sahagins don't have archetypes, alternate racial traits or favored class bonuses .-.

I believe that the sahaughin got some alternate racial traits in the Monster Codex. Not many, but a few.

(Sahaughin are my favorite aquatic race, so I feel your pain on that.)

Shelled out 225 for one of the Collector's Editions. Looking forward to it.

Well, let's see here, for new content, in no particular order

- boabhan sith (CR 8 blood-drinking dancing fey fey)
- The Questing Beast (abberation or fey, maybe magical beast)
- Giltine Psychopomps (I feel like these should be CR 19, possibly as ones who enforce the rules of Purgatory on outsiders and immortals and other powerful entities)
-Mor Psychopomps (CR 6 Serpentine Psychopomps who maintain a presence in the mortal world, silently and invisibly following indivduals of potential importance to fate)
- Knuckers (CR 8 flightless dragons who lurk in wells and rivers and strangle their prey)
- Anasi (CR 12 Native Outsiders, spider-like trickster spirits)
-More Inevitables
-More Sahkil
- More Proteans
- more Asura
- more celestials

Reprint wise, the rest of the Council of Thieves devils, the dwoemercat and skirk nettle from Kingmaker, the new leshies from Ironfang, and pretty much all the fey that havent been rounded up yet.

I'm liking the 40K Eldar vibe for Starfinder's elves

Okay, let's consider migrating the other book topic ideas to this wishlist thread or start a thread dedicated to voicing support for a particular subject. This should really be for Taldor talk. What else would you like to see in this book?

To be honest, I really hope to see more than a tiny bit of prejudice against the faith of Sarenrae in The Empire. The past attempt to sweep it under the rug was,. . . not very good or interesting.

I'd also like to see Taldor as a viable (and rising) power in the world.

Turn the Paizo norm on it's head and have Princess Eutropia be the true villain behind the scenes trying to keep Taldor from truly rising from the ashes.

Knightly Orders.

Options for ranks and titles.

A LOT of story seeds for Taldor rising.

A LOT of snoody, high brow distain for it's childish colonies like Cheliax and Andoran.

Perhaps most important, and something Paizo has kind of always failed at, showing a lot of good reasons that Taldor is important and relevant to the setting. Taldor has always been the nation/faction that has held the most potential in the setting, and yet, it's also been mainly the nation that's not touched with a 10ft pole for "reasons". Lets change that.

I agree with pretty much all this. Sarenrae being a persecuted faith in Taldor is much much more interesting to me than the generic acceptance we got in Inner Sea Gods. It also makes sense. The Cult of the Dawnflower is currently trying its damndest to conquer Taldor. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to embrace a religion whose followers are hell-bent on occupying you. And before anyone points out that the mainstream Sarenites don't approve of the Cult, that doesnt change the fact that the Cult still has an enormous amount of pull with Qadira's government. They are a national threat to Taldor and should be treated as such.

I also agree that Taldor rising up from the ashes would be nice. It would also give the setting an antagonistic nation that isnt evil. While I love Chelaix, it'd be nice to have a big bad empire who isn't into humam sacrifice and mustache twirling.

Any chance you give the CRs for those two?

So what's the Algea and Olethros psychopomps like?

CRs and general descriptions of the psychopomps, proteans, sahkil and clockworks would be nice.

Just bought the pdf on DriveThruRPG. Reading through it actually makes me want to halt my Dark Heresy game and come back to Pathfinder (which I haven't touched in over a year).

This project is defitenly a breath of fresh, creative life into the game and I will defitenly try and get an Aethera game ready to go at some point in the future. I wish I had been able to back this but I was laid off at the time the kickstarter was going on. Eager to get my hands on a print copy.

I'll write an actual review in a few days but my intial impression of this is nothing less than amazing. It's definitely worth every penny, just for ideas alone.

Reminds me of the floateye/ahriman monsters from the Final Fantasy series. Not sure if those are protected IPs of Square Enix though, though the concept of them seems nebulous enough that there shouldn't be any copyrighting stuff on them.

Given the wholesale theft of D&D IP present in early Final Fantasy games, it would be deeply hypocritical for them to try anything.

Not that that would necessarily stop them, of course. Just an observation. ^_^

Hehe I had forgotten about that! Well I guess using the floateye would just be following the old Square traditiom then!

Only Ymeri has been statted out, in the Planes of Power book. The other ones have been left alone for now.

So is there anything in here on slavery? Or more specifically, how the Keleshites are able to worship a NG goddess while running one of the bigger slave trades on the continent without some sort of moral/cognitive dissonance?

Also reading through the comments and previews has gotten me very interested in this, which is saying something since Qadira was never one of my favorite regions.

There is. In short, traditional Keleshite slavery is basically indentured servitude with a 7-year limit, and is understood as owning 100% of a person's labor during that time, but not owning them. The farther you go from central Kelesh, however, the looser that definition gets, and Qadira's continual war with Taldor has generated a demand for soldiers that has been one of the major drivers of the slave trade.

Qadira's agreement with Kelesh gives the satrap almost complete power over what happens within Qadiran borders, and he hasn't been particularly interested in stopping it. The Cult of the Dawnflower also wants war with Taldor, so they're not particularly interested in stomping it out, and the mainline church is too busy trying to rein in the Cult to be able to focus on it.

Essentially, one side (the imperial family or that satrap) would have to break their agreement about the satrap's rule for the status quo to change. Either the satrap would have to do something that violates his side of it, which then would give the Emperor an excuse to declare it void and step in, or the Emperor would have to decide to break it.

Given the priority Keleshites place on contractual agreements, that's not likely to happen any time soon.

Okay that makes a bit more sense. I was wondering how their culture was able to rationalize it. Indentured servitude sucks, but at least its not forever. So a good majority of the slaves in Qadira are destined for the front lines then? Thanks for the clarification.

Dot.

Hey James, are you familiar with the Kingdom Death: Monster boardgame? I saw its getting an updated reprint on Kickstarter and I've been thinking about backing it.

If you are familiar with it, is it worth the hefty price tag?

Since I can't reply to anyone and that my post never showed up, I think that one might be done.

he lost the popular vote. Why is no one pointing this out?

Because the popular vote doesn't matter. It's there to make you feel like you made a difference.

The election was decided behind closed doors with plenty of bribes and promises of favors being tossed around. Trump apparently offered more than Clinton did.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Well this was an interesting election to be sure. I honestly expected Trump to win the popular vote but lose the Electoral at first but when the polls kept promising an overwhelmingly Clinton victory I had a feeling we'd be welcoming Trump as the 45th President.

Assuming Trump even delivers on a fifth of his promises, we have an interesting 8 years to look forward too. Not just in the States but in Europe too. Multiculturalism has been dying in Europe for sometime and with a Trump victory showing how populist, conservative movements can win, I'm expecting a massive increase in nationalist activity across the EU.

What a hell of a time to be alive.

I'm more of a lurker and observer here and I havent actually played Pathfinder for almost six months but hell I'll give it a go. There are more on this list but this is whats at the top of my head.

Todd Stewart
Neil Spicer (Mostly because he hasnt put out an adventure that I havent enjoyed)
James Sutter ( Seems very imaginative and down with weird ideas)
Kalindlara (She seems like she would be an excellent GM and she is genuinely nice.)
Captain Yesterday (If your playstyle is like your forum behavior, you would fit right in with my regular group)
Kobold Cleaver (Most of your posts have made me chuckle and you are a great world-builder.)
Mark Hoover (The worlds this guy has made make me jealous. I also feel the pain of having players not appreciate them.)
Gorbacz (I enjoy his humour as well as his pokes aganist a couple of posters Im not fond of on here.)
Skeld (We'd get every new supplement first.)
Freehold DM (Even though you only watch anime subbed :p )
Scythia (You seem pretty cool and I'd love to game with, both tabletop and video games.)

Seriously Paizo. I only have so much money to spend on kickass stuff.

On a serious note, as a lover of all things fey, this will be coming into my collection.

I wander if they might do some fey born racial traits for other races, like drow, kitsune, goblins, kobolds, or tengu.

Yeah not quite sure what the distress over Golarion elements creeping into the RPG line is all about. Thats been in there from the beginning with the gods.

I mean for one, mechanics are mechanics in regards to Golarion specific stuff. Just change the names or requirements of a few things and pretty much every feat, spell, item, and archetype is useable for whatever world you are running.

Lore wise, just disregard or alter an organization if it doesn't fit your world.
Hell just steal an organization specific spell or feat if thats all you need.

The Holy Land of Gravidia

A primarly human kingdom that is notable for its obession with death. Psychopomp ushers and gods of death are the primary deities and the government is a open theocracy. Psychopomps are commonly see openly in this land and necromancy is considered high treason.

Gravidia does have a problem with sahkil and their fear obessed cultists stirring up trouble and among the lands deviant elites, there is a high demand for undead servants and necromantic items. There is also a sort of weird obession with sleeping with and being fed on by vampires, who are often sahkil cult leaders.

Aside from the undead/sahkil cults, Gravidia is also home to several militant minotaur tribes who regulary raid villages and harrass merchant caravans. Flame drakes, tatzlwyms, su,dryads, sprites, twigjacks, and redcaps are some other notable monsters.

Just because I just got into the show but how about Erza Scarlet from Fairy Tail? Im not sure weather she's a magus or a synthesist summoner.

I have some plastic storage casesthat I used to store them. Each case has little plastic dividers in it already. I have my pawns seperated by monster type/NPC Class, with my large amd huge pawns in sandwich baggies aosmo by type in the top of the cases. Its not the most efficent or easy to access system but it sure as hell beats digging through a messy pawn box.

I believe my girlfriend bought me the cases from a Michael's if anyone is curious.

Interestingly, in Kingmaker, Thrasfyr is described as "a mountainous mass of hooks, barbs, and iron". Kind of wonder what happened with the art.

Kingmaker also notes that "no one beyond the Eldest knows just how many of the Tane still breathe within their hidden barracks". So more are always a possibility. ^_^

Bestiary 2 Thrasfyr art is an adorable, fire-breathing bondage bear.

The Pawn art for it however, is a very menacing draconic esque beast that matches the original description much better.

I'll second the Familiar Folio. The Heroes books are pretty good too.

Wasn't trying to come off as hostile. I am kind of curious as to what kinds you would add if you had the choice. I cant really imagine any others we might need aside from a First World type.

I will say that I sort of agree with people here on the adding new members to some underpopulated monster groups such as the asuras, divs, leshys, kami, and oni.

Not sure about sphinxes and hags though. Not a huge fan of hags (can't say that I've ever used one before) and sphinxes seem pretty filled out to me. Also dont quite get the linnorm thing either. I always thought we had a decent amount.

I'm pretty excited for the proteans, fey, and outsider lords myself. Fingers crossed for some new psychopomps and sahkil as well.

This is cool.

Love them. I bought the original trilogy while on vacation about 4 or 5 years ago. Just bought Clariel a few weeks ago but havent gotten around to reading it yet.

Honestly I wouldnt mind drafting up an Occultist based on Sabriel the next time I get a player's seat.

Seeing something on Axis, The Boneyard and especially the Maelstrom would be beyond awesome!!!

The Shadow Plane would be cool to visit as well, especially seeing what Shadow Absalom is like.

Well they've covered most of what I initially wanted. But in order of what I want the most.

1). Book of the Damned-style books for proteans, psychopomps, kytons, and sahkil.

2). A book on Rahadoum. As an atheist myself, I've always been looking to a more in depth look into this nation.

3). A book on Taldor. Simply to finish out the big 5 nations.

4). An expanded book for Minkai or another Tian Xia nation.

I'd also take a setting book for Southern Garund or Casmaron.

So what does Ymeri look like?

On Golarion? How about Rahadoum or the Realm of the Mammoth Lords?

Not on Golarion, I would love to see a module either partially or entirely set in the First World or Axis.

Sabriel from the Abhorsen books. Might actually build this character for a campaign if I can figure out what class to do.
