![]() I'll have to check with the kids whether we'll participate. We started playing PFS as something the whole family could do at Cons instead of just looking at the cosplayers and going to panels. Once we did that, it was a no brainer to come to PaizoCon. I think it was maybe six years ago. It was awesome! Every gamemaster had five stars or a campaign coin or was a RVC. Scheduling was difficult. Getting a family of four at all the same tables playing the games we wanted took a lot of coordination, but it was worth it. I believe our last in person PaizoCon marked the end of first edition. The special was brutal; I swear they wanted to kill all our characters. Our family had been playing the same characters at every Con which brought us to ninth level (the kids and I also had alts but not my wife). There's no ninth level games so we played up at 10-11. We sat at our table and waited. Always before at PaizoCon, we would pull up with our characters that we enjoyed playing and maybe weren't the most powerful and the other two players would be very experienced players with tricked out characters that generally kept us from dying. Not this time; we were on our own, or so it seemed. We got through the first combat with all our expendables and spells blown and honestly didn't know what to do. That's when the room found out our little family of four was about to get clobbered. There was some sort of way of sending power from one table to another in the form of slips of paper. All of a sudden we couldn't use them fast enough as every single one came to our table over and over again. It really felt like community, so many people helping us, something intangible. For the last combat, the GM just gave up and we just role played with him. So, physical is important. A bunch of people above said they could never get to PaizoCon but "at least I can drive to GenCon." Hmmph. It would take an Act of Congress to get me to GenCon but at least I used to be able to drive to PaizoCon. I'm sure last year's Con stressed Paizo out. Organizers have obligations to hotels that may or may not have been waived last year because of the pandemic. SteamCon in Bellevue died because the Con didn't meet the food/bev requirement and couldn't pay the penalty. I would propose, however, that last year could have been organized better. Because of the rollover tickets, I wasn't able to go. Actually, I could have but there was no guarantee that I could get tickets so I made other plans. Without the rollovers, I would say attendance would be higher. It's probably too late for this year but I hope in person PaicoCon comes back. ![]()

![]() I can't remember what Con did it - maybe PaizoCon online or online Europe? - but one Con had the option of running tables for specials in person away from the Con. Is that an option here? I realize it's a bit late to ask this but it's an evolving situation. Thanks!

![]() I would like to share that I'm somewhat disappointed with this situation. I started my kids on Pathfinder and cons when they were in grade school. Since we live nearby, we made it to multiple paizocons, a highlight for the year, and played some stellar games. It was tough coordinating four people to get in the same games, but we'd all be on our devices as soon as signup was allowed to pull it off. 2020 and the pandemic came and I didn't bother buying tickets. Cons were generally being canceled and those that weren't were almost certain to be superspreader events. However, if you had told me that I wouldn't be able to go to the next in person Con without buying tickets in 2020 (and, if something came up, I could get a refund even), I would have totally slapped my credit card down to get them. My youngest (now in high school) hates VTT so only my oldest and I did the virtual Cons. Currently, Paizo is requiring people to "opt out" of their "limited attendance" con. That means, if they do nothing, they have a ticket and Paizo keeps their ticket fees, which is pretty standard because it helps the company. For instance, Starbucks has a zillion dollars in unused gift cards. However, this strategy will not maximize attendance. The simple fact is that there is a significant number of people who won't or can't request a refund. Some don't check the message boards because they've lost interest and/or feel they gave Paizo a donation during the pandemic. Honestly, statistically, some people have passed away. How significant the number of people who aren't coming but hold a ticket is obviously uncertain. To maximize attendance with the limitations, Paizo should have either required people to "opt in" (making the default a refund) or provide a decision of some sort - email or fill out a form with whether they want a refund or not. It's not too late. You could ask the people with valid tickets to confirm their planned attendance. I hate to criticize because, well, I love Paizo and I know huge amounts of people volunteer to make it awesome. But, still. ![]()
![]() Blastoff looks up at the Vesk, eyes wide in surprise as if finding a new but promising pupil, before his natural cool reasserts itself. A long drag, a wave of a paw, and the smoke he blows takes on the shape of the Vesk system, each planet represented and correct in size and location. He coughs, contemplating the sight. Is it a roll (say, mysticism) to know what shimmer stone is, or is it common knowledge or unknown? If Blastoff knows, he says: Spoiler: "Shimmer Stone is a mystical stone. Found only on Vesk 8, it reflects the very nature of the stars themselves in its substance. It has great power!" he finishes with a squeak of excitement. ![]()

![]() Interesting thread. I've been playing RPG's since the 80's. I GM'ed the hardback Rise of the Runelords for a couple of years 10 years ago and then quit. It was at a Con that I saw Organized Play. To be honest, I coveted the paper chronicles, the chance to grow my character throughout the wide RL world. Plus, my kids were old enough to game and, if you've never RPG'ed with 10-year-olds, there's a couple of things they all want:
Under traditional RPG home games, #2 isn't possible. It is, however, through organized play (though a bit complicated). Anyway, PFS got me hooked on pathfinder. I run or organized a couple of sessions per week and play PFS when I can. Regarding, the income situation for Paizo, I have like 6 subscriptions, double buy the important rulebooks, and have roped a dozen other people into playing and buying. PFS was the gateway drug. :) ![]()

![]() Hi all, I've been frustrated for months trying to get to the online boons. I have tons of AcP but whenever I try to buy, I push "Choose Character" and there's nothing there. Well, today I figured out how to fix it. I had to register a 2nd edition character. I feel a little dim. However, if anybody else is having the same problem, here's the solution! ![]()

![]() From what I see by the game report, it appears that an Adventure Path book grants credit equal to 3 tables in terms of earning glyphs. Is this the case? I searched the forums and couldn't find an answer to this question. I apologize if it's been answered elsewhere. ![]()

![]() I'm curious about the change in dates. I had PaizoCon time taken off from work basically as soon as they mentioned the dates. I can't take that whole week off, especially considering the backlog I'll have after the epidemic. My kids may be able to do that time and they're certainly tired of being at home, so maybe it will work better for them. Once again, curious not complaining. And, if you wanted to speak to times for gaming I would love to hear it. Take care!

You get the same money from earning income as you would crafting something but instead of having the money it just goes towards the item. Wouldn't you get it just as quick by saving and buying it as crafting it? Earn income is done at level-2 (minimum 0), while crafting is done at level. Plus it's cool to make stuff. ![]()

![]() We were at DragonCon last year and binge-played PFS. So we decided to do the same at Paizo. We're extremely local but will stay in the hotel to avoid stupid traffic. We is our family of four, including 13 and 10-year-olds. How do we make certain we're doing stuff together, regarding lotteries, banquet, etc? Thanks! |
