Pathfinder2e: I am a 4th level wizard with expert crafting and the magical crafting feat.

I want to create a Hat of the Magi(item level 3). I buy formula 3gp.

I finish a scenario and get 8 downtime days. I spend 4 days and 25gp, succeed on my level 3 (DC 18) crafting check. I work the other 4 days at .8gp towards the item. I end up 28.2/50gp done.

Question: when I finish the next scenario and get 8 more downtime days do I?
1) work 8 days at .8gp towards the item and finish at 34.6/50gp done
2) make level 4 (DC 19) crafting check and get .1gp on failure, .8gp on success, 1gp on crit per day towards the item
3) spend 4 days getting ready, and do answer 1 or 2 for the remaining 4 days

#1 is your answer.

#2 is incorrect. You already made the DC 18 check. So no other checks are needed. The amount you put towards is set. I would just have your GM mark if it is a success or crit success in the notes and how many days you spent crafting.

#3 is just silly. No need to get a ready a second time and spend half the cost again.

Hopefully this is the answer your looking for.

That is my understanding as well.

Ok, i've been trying to figure out the benefits of crafting. As far as I've seen there's none. You get the same money from earning income as you would crafting something but instead of having the money it just goes towards the item. Wouldn't you get it just as quick by saving and buying it as crafting it?

Earn income is done at level-2 (minimum 0), while crafting is done at level.

Plus it's cool to make stuff.
