OPM Musings

Our last blog looked at 2019 and some of the team’s best memories of our year. Between then and now, I took a few weeks off over the holidays to visit family and recharge my batteries. I arrived back in the office on Monday, ready to tackle our outstanding tasks and get things completed.

While out of the office, I remained in contact with our tech team as we worked to resolve the outstanding issues with the Achievement Point program. The good news is we have a pile of fixes ready for quality assurance testing and we hope to have them rolled out over the next few weeks. Some of the pending items include downloadable paper copies of Playtest Point/Achievement Point boons, Achievement Point scaling for Premium/Premium Plus events, and correct values for Pathfinder Society (second edition) Quests. I’m optimistic we have the light at the end of the tunnel on this issue.

Better news than the Achievement Points is our movement on sanctioning. The organized play developers finished their pass on several of the books and now we are working on getting them formatted for publication. This is another task I hope to have completed by the end of the month.

Hard to believe, but there is one more piece of news even better than Achievement Points and sanctioning updates. I’m pleased to announce the organized play team is growing by one – we are adding an operational administrative assistant working directly with me to support our programs. The job posting should go up shortly and I encourage our community members to appy!

Campaign Coins

Taking a few weeks off of convention travel led to not awarding any campaign coins over the past month.

Stars

The end of 2019, while thinner on conventions, was thick with GMs qualifying for their 5th star. This is a great achievement, as to reach the 5th star milestone a GM must run 150 games, of which at least 50 must be unique scenarios and 10 special scenarios, as well as run a game for a venture-captain. A conservative estimate of time needed to reach 5-stars is 650 hours! Thank you to all our GMs who committed time and energy to the campaign and a resounding cheer to the GMs on the list below that earned their 5th star.

  • Conor McClure
  • Adam Kessler
  • Steven Mombourquette
  • Kyle Hallberg
  • Michael Petlicke
  • Jon Haight
  • Edward Kabara
  • Derek Blakely
  • Mike Welham

Novas & Glyphs

In taking care of backlog items, we got the nova icon updated on the website and are working to get the glyph icon added. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as easy as me just putting the image somewhere and needed some behind the scenes tech assistance. We anticipate having the Glyphs up and running in the next few weeks. For those running Pathfinder Society (second edition) games, thank you and we will get your recognition out asap!

I’d like to list the first 5-nova GMs in the February Spotlight blog! While we wait for the online nova evaluation tool, which is part of a greater tools overhaul, we’ve made an online form for logging evaluation games. Venture-Captains, please use this form to submit evaluations.

Convention Listing

Only 10 days into the new year and already have an impressive list of conventions! Community event organizers submitted their events for support, which is awarded to all conventions that meet minimum criteria (15 blocks of games over 3 days and publicized to the public). If you don’t see an event on the list below and know they are running Society games, ping the organizer and have them submit a request for support or have them email me at organizedplay@paizo.com to discuss their event. All of the conventions on the list maintain some type of web presence, be it website, social media page, or Warhorn listing, so if you are interested in attending in either capacity, check out their websites or contact the local venture-officer for more information!

Thank you, I appreciate this new format.

You got my hopes up that there was another con coming to Sacramento. Alas, I'm pretty sure CogCon is in Rolla, MO. You might want to check your plane tickets?

Thanks. Technically, if it wasn't for the '10 specials' requirement, I would have gotten the star way earlier. I'm at something like 700 credits now. The problem with specials is by this point, if not literally, it definitely feels like 99% of players have already done them. That made for quite the task in finding players.

I figured that it'd take a while to see the 5th star on my profile. I've waited this long, another week won't kill me.

Correct me if I am wrong , but I do not belive that "CogCon 2020" takes place in Sacramento.

SQUEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

This is the best news ever! I am so happy that the OrgPlay team is finally getting an administrative assistant. There is so much work to be done, and this will make such a difference!

Congrats to all the new 5 star GMS! Especially Steven, well deserved and I'm glad Fin ignored my advice of "give him hell" ;)

Great to hear progress is being made on all fronts, can't wait to actually start to see some of these things go live!

Grats to the 5-Stars! Special Grats to our 5-Star GM for the Online Region, Steven Mombourquette!

Now he can start working on those Glyphs! Come on and catch up, Steven M. You're 44 behind!

Great news on the AcP stuff!

Better news that we're getting another person on the Org Play staff!

Once the AcP goes live I think PFS2 is really going to expand far more than it has to this point. So start GMing now so you're ready for the player boom!

WOOT!

Congratulations on the new 5 star GMs. I'm new to the GM side of the screen so I'm still working on getting my first star; I will get my first Glyph first. I can already see how much work and dedication it takes to get 5 stars.

All of this is really good news to hear! I have high hopes that the AcP reporting gets finished so that those items dependent on it for sanctioning can roll out ASAP. My players are clamoring for the sanctioning of the Lost Omens content from both the World Guide and the Character Creation Guide, so this is welcome news indeed.

Everyone who noted CogCon isn't in Sacramento, but is in Rolla is correct. I've got a request in to get the blog updated, but it went in late on Friday, so I don't think we will see a change until Monday.

I updated privileges for our new 5* GMs. Not sure why it isn't showing. I suggest going into your "My Organized Page" and recalculating your stars by hitting the button. If that doesn't work, email me and I'll get tech to look at it on Mon.

I am wondering why this blog is posted under Local Events instead of the main Pathfinder Society area? This is the first time I have seen these type of blogs put under Local Events. People are not use to this and I believe may have missed this blog because of it.

Can this blog be moved to the Pathfinder Society area?

Can we get someone that will actually get progress going on society? A single person that has to learn how to edit the additional resources from scratch and decide what is and isn't legal could do more in 6 months than what has happened. It's basically already been play tested with starfinder how things go and 2e is just going that route anyway.

Between literally next to no content and no AR for almost 6 months and not nearly enough replayables, society is damn near dead, and it'd probably bring in a huge profit once players have more reason to buy books. Cuz buying something to support someone who doesn't care about you enough and doesn't even value you as a customer enough to take the locks off of the toys you buy for MULTIPLE MONTHS is really really rude and disrespectful, especially after claiming that there are people supposedly doing exactly that and never showing results while continuing to work on other projects.

We've been playing with core for the past decade and yalk have been at this for almost as long. How has nobody learned how to get a conversation going over Facebook messenger group texting and make some decisions then implement them in a timely manner IN TEN YEARS of doing this?

Grand Lodge 4/5 ***** Venture-Captain, Missouri—Columbia

All the stuff is linked to the AcP system. Until that gets going nothing else can be sanctioned and released. They stated this in the blog post.

Society is not dead. It is going great with what we have right now.

There are at least a few people that avoid Fakebook, Titter, and such things. To insist that be the only mode of conversation is to disregard those people at the very least.

And as someone who has been burnt by the 'approve it all now' followed by 'oh, wait, we really didn't see this interaction and now have to roll back *insert crucial portion of character build here*' in a minor fashion, I'd prefer caution over haste.

Instead of insisting on having it all now, just wait to buy it when the things one desires are approved. Sure, it sadly means the sometimes 'sexy' books aren't in one's possession, but it's not like they're going to be of any great use if the 'one thing' that is desired ends up on the banned list.

Compared to other approval processes and alternatives from other organized play experiences, the methodology used for PFS(1) has been a FAR better method.

YMMV.

Many of our mileages do vary. There has to be a middle ground. Hell, we know that the actual vetting process was done sometime in November or early December — they're just not publishing what was sanctioned because the website is so frakked.

There are three days until the end of the month. An update from campaign staff — and a plan to get information out there now while they figure out their damnable web developer issues — is warranted.
