You can only use one use of LoH per action. That is why it is called uses and not charges or something else as you are calling it. And LoH does not say anything about using it as a nova effect. It gets up to 10d6 and you cannot suddenly heal yourself with four uses for 40d6 or do such damage to an undead creature with using a single action. Where would anyone even come up with such an interpretation? It's never been that way in 3E or Pathfinder. No. I'm not cool with that.

Dave, that question would not be answered in the rules forum by the FAQ. This is the first I have seen of anyone interpreting LoH the way Hajar has interpreted it. No one I know uses it that way or ever has. That's why this is surprising to even read. Charges are not what uses of LoH are. It is uses. It is very specific about how you can use it. When you can use multiple uses, it says so. Such as it requiring two uses of LoH to do Channel Energy one time. A paladin cannot say use 4 uses of LoH to double his Channel Energy ability.

They always get a reflex save regardless of surprised or flat-footed. As far as I know you only lose your dex for AC, not reflex saves. As far as the Pathfinder rules go. If you want to house rule it your way, I guess we can live with it until we get hit by it.

You cannot 5 foot step and move again. You move once, then fire. You can't move again untilt the next round. You can generally fire from a position with cover. So Hajar or Gunk should not have to leave cover to fire on their targets.

I don't like playing without a dedicated healer. It slows things down and causes extra expenses. A bad round can leave a whole bunch of people laid out.

And we have enough physical damage dealers as it is. Paladin, Ranger, Leyli and her cat, Raj and his summoned creatures, and Grim. Gunk I guess is ranged half-way physical damage.

Know now if I have to channel, I'm going to use it. In a group this large against this many enemies as opponents, I can't possibly use Selective Channeling to elminate them. So I'm not going to bother. Channel Energy wasn't built for encounters as large as the ones we play. I'll do my best to avoid including enemies in it, but it will be real hard with 8 or so enemies in encounters.

You won't roll the next check until next round.

So it would go like this:

Round 1: Initiate Grapple. If CMB successful, you are grappling. No damage or effect other than Grappled Condition. Target cannot move without escaping or succeeding on a grapple check.

Round 2: If still grappling, you gain a +5 Circumstance bonus to your CMB check to grapple. If grapple check succeeds, you can do one of the following:

Pin: Pin the target.

Move: Move the target

Tie Up: Tie up The target.

Damage: Damage the target.

Subsequent rounds repeat round 2 until target breaks grapple.

Spoiler:

The only way a grapple does damage on the initial attack is if they have grab. Then you do the initial damage of the attack and make a grapple check. If you want to do damage after the initial attack, then you make a grapple check to do damage.

Otherwise the first grapple check is to start the grapple. It does no damage other than to grant both targets the grappled condition.

Since Dave is not doing AoOs, the AoO danger is removed from grappling.

I will not oppose you. They stink and I tire of their presence. Dashki's father and his mother will smile upon us to be avenged for their deaths and the suffering of their child."

"I am not a gnoll. Dashki is not a gnoll. I am a man. These gnolls are the enemies of men. Let them beg us for mercy on their knees with their weapons thrown down praying we give it. Then let them spend several generations making up for the generations of suffering their kind has visited upon men. Then perhaps I will feel somewhat more open to offering gnolls the Dawnflower's redemption."

"If it were my decision, they would die now. Dashki has no say in this matter. He fears them. We will teach him who is the stronger soon. He will learn that man will not suffer the predations of gnolls. Nor will he suffer their presence. If they should take one of our children and treat them as they treated Dashki, they will suffer a hundred times his fate."

I will not inflict greater suffering on the man. Who knows what any of us would be like, if we had been taken by gnolls as children. It is a miracle that he has not been turned evil having lived amongst such filthy creatures." Hamzah frowns.

As Hamzah is returning to care for Dashki, he says to Raj, "I have no wish to have them as friends charmed or otherwise. I will not oppose your plan. If you feel you can make good use of these gnolls to kill the others, then so be it. They eat each other's young like cannibals. Do with these jackals as you wish. When Hajar returns, Hamzah will sit with Dashki and treat him kindly. He listens to his story. After a time reassuring the man he will be fine, he speaks with the others.

"I have seen and heard enough. My name is Hamzah Hamas Al Dajannah. In the Keleshite tongue that means 'Fire of Heaven'. I have tried to assist my brother Hajar with his desire to redeem gnolls. It makes my soul sick to do it. I am not Sarenrae's mercy. I am her swift justice. I see nothing in these gnolls worth redeeming. I will not waste another moment pursuing their redemption unless they fall before me and beg for it. You can do as you wish Hajar, but gnolls will die by my hand from this moment on. They are a blight upon this land and so numerous that attempting to redeem them could waste a life I would rather spend doing good in the world for those that have earned good treatment."

"I have no wish to work with these gnolls we have taken prisoner. I would sooner see the evil jackals slain. They are traitorous and their presence sickens me. I will not pretend that creatures that talk of eating the young of even their own kind are worthy of mercy or of Sarenrae's light."

"If the majority of you wish to align with these gnolls to attack the other gnolls so be it. I am not one to force my ways on others. I wish no part of it. I will not speak with them other than to learn what I need to know to destroy those that occupy Kelmarene. I will not heal them. I will not waste anymore of my time with them. The ones in Kelmarene will die. Let the Sun purify and cleanse their evil from this land."

"I am sorry, Hajar. I cannot hide who I am any longer. I was born for a purpose. That purpose was not to redeem gnolls. I will destroy them with the power of the Dawnflower as they deserve."

Once Hamzah finishes, he rises, and returns to watch over Dashki.

Hamzah, you sound [or read as it were] upset. All I'm saying is that you were right there after Dashki fled. You were what? 1 round behind after he fled the second time? Then both you and the ranger gave up the chase. I really could have used your help is subduing the guy since I am woefully ill equipped for such things. I had to drop a nuke on the man to get him to stop but it would have been a lot easier if two or more of us were there to rush him and tackle him. Now he is at -2 and bleeding out. I am untrained in healing and my elixirs cannot yet be used on others. So yeah, I'm confused by your actions. Hopefully Hajar or Al Akim can stablize him.

Rounds? I did not see Dave tracking movement in rounds.

Quote:
Seeing Hamzah come up Dashki turns and runs again.

That's what Dave wrote. In my mind that means a 120 feet movement. Sprinting=running. This movement wasn't carried out in rounds. Dashki ran, fled.

If I'm running this on table top, Dashki would have moved at a minimum 60 feet head start on anyone. After that he would have increased his distance. You're pretty much the only on that could have kept up with double moves to corral him.

That is the assumption I played under. Hamzah had no intention of fighting Dashki for exactly the reasons you listed considering he wanted to redeem the man. He figured if Dashki returned, he would attempt to talk to him then.

I'm equally woefully equipped for subduing. I'm not a monk. I'm not strong. Why would I be able to subdue Dashki any better than you? I definitely wouldn't have thrown a bomb at the guy or attacked him. That doesn't make much sense either. You could have let him go. That was an option. I'm still not quite sure why Gunk felt the better option was to throw a bomb at him.

As it played out Hamzah had no chance to talk to the gnolls. He tried. I don't even know if my Sense Motive check gave me any information.

Hamzah told Hajar to make sure Dashki wasn't killed hoping he would use Merciful Blade if facing off against Dashki.

He tried to talk to Dashki. Dashki ran. Hamzah can't keep up. I'm not sure what else I can do to try to make this work out a different way. I feel as a player I did all I could to talk to these gnolls and recover Dashki, the situation erupted into combat and went from there. Nothing I can do about but play through the situation.

Gunk, you should read the posts. You're way off base on your assertions.

Hamzah did not have time to speak to the gnolls. Akim said what he said and Dave said that set them to attacking us. That was a DM decision based on what Akim said. I can't stop people posting on a forum from speaking or the DM from deciding something said sets the gnolls off attacking. Though I must admit Hamzah was probably not going to ally with beings talking about eating the young of their enemies.

As far as Dashki goes, Hamzah moves 20 feet in a breastplate. You move 50 feet with your spell. Dashki moves 30. That means Dashki is moving an extra 20 feet a round (or more if he is sprinting). Both of you greatly outdistanced Hamzah with little chance of Hamzah catching up.

Hamzah wants to redeem Dashki, which is why he ran after them. But your characte is running far faster than Hamzah, while the player is complaining that us Sarenraen types don't want to redeem Dashki? How about you picture what is actually going on in your imagination. Then maybe you'll see a huffing and puffing cleric dressed in a breastplate running after a lightly armored ranger and a gnome jacked up on a speed potion.

You're confusing not having the ability to keep up with not wanting to redeem the guy. You should be well aware that a cleric doesn't have any means to boost his movement at this time.

To sum it up, I have little control over the events as Dave had them unfold. Maybe keep that in mind before you make assumptions that aren't at all true.
