That would be for the best. Let us depart.
Hajar has low light vision if it helps you make survival checks to track.

Gunk |

Ok, if we were going to use the strength of this particular group of gnolls to attack the gnolls at Kelmarane anyways, why did we attack them? They came here seeking an alliance and we rebuked them and insulted them. They were obviously upset so they attacked us. We basically slaughter them. Now we are asking them for an alliance to do the same thing they came here to ask of us? We've just crossed the border into bizarro land. Not only that, but the one guy we've encountered so far worth redeeming storms off in a fit of confusion and rage and all of you Sarenraen types just go "meh! I'd rather reform gnolls. Confused human children with a completely disastrous upbringing can go rot in the desert."
I've no melee weapon and this one is a ranger. I'm going to have to use my superior speed to run him around while I attack from range. Damn hells! Where ARE my allies when I need them most?
Gunk prepares a bomb mixture and while he is out of range he calls out to the boy Dashki, I don't want to hurt you. I am here to help. Please, lower your weapons. I wish to bring you to the safety of your own kind.
If he lowers his weapon, Gunk will stay at range until such time as I think I can talk him down. If he attacks, I will throw my bomb and keep him far enough away to throw another. {Kiting him if you prefer the gamer term for it.}
Rng Touch: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

Edit: ugh roll to confirm crit. egads I hope I don't kill the boy outright
Rng Touch: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Hajar nar Jundi |

No way dude, Hajar is under the impression that Dashki has been magically controlled by the gnolls. And he woulda ran after you but he has no idea where you all ran off to. See my earlier posts. While all of this was going down, I've been stuck in meetings so I was way confused by the goings on. Dave actually dmpced me for a bit. Hajar is trying to balance redemption with realism. Hajar and Naziri are otw! Holy shnikes. max damage on a crit

![]() |

Raj pulls out a familiar golden compass and lights it, then hands it to Nemaides. Quick, see if you can find them
Will do boss! and he takes off in the direction that gunk ran [fly speed 40 or 60, I can't remember...]
Don't worry about these guys, I'll keep 'em here.
I also was a little confused by people's hostility when they offered to help. Raj still might be able to garner some aid from them with the help of a couple of hypnotism spells, but unfortunately he doesn't know charm person (Though I'm not entirely sure that spell works on gnolls anyway).

Gunk |

Pretty sure the crit didn't land as my confirmation roll was terrible. And who'da thunk it was Gunk who was willing to ally with the gnolls to attack the gnolls. lol
PS not sorry should have taken that gold off the loot list. That is the gold from before that has been already distributed.

Gunk |

Pretty sure I'm faster than Dashki as I currently have expeditious retreat on plus my original speed.
My base movement is now 50

Gunk |

As Hajar and Naziri enter the scene Gunk says Well THAT could have gone better. Can either of you help stabilize this man before he up and dies on us?
edit: Yeah thought he was a boy by the way we were talking about his upbringing and such. My mistake. Doesn't change much though story wise.

Hamzah Hamas Al Dajannah |

Gunk, you should read the posts. You're way off base on your assertions.
Hamzah did not have time to speak to the gnolls. Akim said what he said and Dave said that set them to attacking us. That was a DM decision based on what Akim said. I can't stop people posting on a forum from speaking or the DM from deciding something said sets the gnolls off attacking. Though I must admit Hamzah was probably not going to ally with beings talking about eating the young of their enemies.
As far as Dashki goes, Hamzah moves 20 feet in a breastplate. You move 50 feet with your spell. Dashki moves 30. That means Dashki is moving an extra 20 feet a round (or more if he is sprinting). Both of you greatly outdistanced Hamzah with little chance of Hamzah catching up.
Hamzah wants to redeem Dashki, which is why he ran after them. But your characte is running far faster than Hamzah, while the player is complaining that us Sarenraen types don't want to redeem Dashki? How about you picture what is actually going on in your imagination. Then maybe you'll see a huffing and puffing cleric dressed in a breastplate running after a lightly armored ranger and a gnome jacked up on a speed potion.
You're confusing not having the ability to keep up with not wanting to redeem the guy. You should be well aware that a cleric doesn't have any means to boost his movement at this time.
To sum it up, I have little control over the events as Dave had them unfold. Maybe keep that in mind before you make assumptions that aren't at all true.

Hamzah Hamas Al Dajannah |

As it played out Hamzah had no chance to talk to the gnolls. He tried. I don't even know if my Sense Motive check gave me any information.
Hamzah told Hajar to make sure Dashki wasn't killed hoping he would use Merciful Blade if facing off against Dashki.
He tried to talk to Dashki. Dashki ran. Hamzah can't keep up. I'm not sure what else I can do to try to make this work out a different way. I feel as a player I did all I could to talk to these gnolls and recover Dashki, the situation erupted into combat and went from there. Nothing I can do about but play through the situation.

Gunk |

Hamzah, you sound [or read as it were] upset. All I'm saying is that you were right there after Dashki fled. You were what? 1 round behind after he fled the second time? Then both you and the ranger gave up the chase. I really could have used your help is subduing the guy since I am woefully ill equipped for such things. I had to drop a nuke on the man to get him to stop but it would have been a lot easier if two or more of us were there to rush him and tackle him. Now he is at -2 and bleeding out. I am untrained in healing and my elixirs cannot yet be used on others. So yeah, I'm confused by your actions. Hopefully Hajar or Al Akim can stablize him.

![]() |

Regardless of what everyone tried to do, let's not forget that these are CHAOTIC EVIL gnolls we're talking about here. One might see this situation as an evil group asking for an alliance, and then attacking simply because their potential allies had qualms about their track record. Yep, sounds like chaotic evil to me! Poor misguided Dashki just got caught in the middle of it.

Rounds? I did not see Dave tracking movement in rounds.
Seeing Hamzah come up Dashki turns and runs again.
That's what Dave wrote. In my mind that means a 120 feet movement. Sprinting=running. This movement wasn't carried out in rounds. Dashki ran, fled.
If I'm running this on table top, Dashki would have moved at a minimum 60 feet head start on anyone. After that he would have increased his distance. You're pretty much the only on that could have kept up with double moves to corral him.
That is the assumption I played under. Hamzah had no intention of fighting Dashki for exactly the reasons you listed considering he wanted to redeem the man. He figured if Dashki returned, he would attempt to talk to him then.
I'm equally woefully equipped for subduing. I'm not a monk. I'm not strong. Why would I be able to subdue Dashki any better than you? I definitely wouldn't have thrown a bomb at the guy or attacked him. That doesn't make much sense either. You could have let him go. That was an option. I'm still not quite sure why Gunk felt the better option was to throw a bomb at him.

GM: Dave the Dwarf |

Thanks Raj thats what my intentions were. The party came up hostile with hands on weapons into there camp. When the gnolls offered to help kill the other tribe you guys stayed in a hostile position. How should chaotic evil react to that? It was pretty obvious how you felt about working with gnolls I feel I had them react accordingly. I mention this only because I do not want you to think that the fight was pre determined no matter what you guys said. We also need to remember how hard it is to convey context through text.

Gunk |

I went up to him to talk. He attacked. If he had pulled out his bow instead of melee weapons it would be Gunk in need of a heal check to stabilize right now. As for subduing him, well lets just say I'm 3'0" tall and I weigh as much as a 3 year old. I have no weapon to speak of. I wear a lovely leather shirt and some fancy leather pants. Who is less capable of subduing an enemy? Lol. And the only reason I attacked him was because I was hoping to subdue him that way ... pretty much my only option.

Al-Akim Naziri |

Hey guys, I want to apologize because it seems like a lot of this could land on my character. Gunk as Hamzah said,
If I'm running this on table top, Dashki would have moved at a minimum 60 feet head start on anyone. After that he would have increased his distance. You're pretty much the only on that could have kept up with double moves to corral him.
I didn't make a detailed enough post, but Al-Akim basically felt outpaced, and had confidence in you to try and do what you could for Dashki, but he isn't tied to that character's life. I made a poor decision by abandoning you.
As far as the comments at the beginning that were the genesis of this whole conflict, Al-Akim might have been swayed by his companions to ally with the gnolls, but it woould have been very difficult given his past experiences, and thefact that they are his favored enemy.
I apologize if my posts caused confusion, but let's put this to rest, and move forward!

Al-Akim Naziri |

Al-Akim, seeing the disabled Dashki laying on the ground, will approach and attempt to stabilize.
"Master Gunk, place your hands here..."
If you want to, you can probably aid another on this heal roll.
Heal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
"I am glad to see that you are safe, what happened here with Dashki?"

Hajar nar Jundi |

Once Hajar arrives he lays his hands on the fallen and disarmed ranger.

Hajar waits to see what happens but he is careful to keeps his hands from straying near Tempest and posture from seeming aggressive.
Brother Dashki, please explain what happened. These Gnolls you said they were family. There are two of them detained at the statue.
Diplomacy to calm down Dashki and improve his disposition if possible. Gunk, Akim feel free to aid another. I might need the bonuses.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17

Leyli Wildspeaker |

Is Dashki restrained?
Hopefully,
"You are not dead, thanks to this paladin. They want some questions answered, and until you can promise us you will cooperate then you will continue to be bound."

Leyli Wildspeaker |

"Stop," as Leyli commands Furball to stop as the lion almost cut his neck in two.
"Do that one more time, and that would be the last thing you will remember in your life."

Hajar nar Jundi |

ok super confused. How did Leyli end up in the hills with us? The last post I saw her and Grim were heading to the monastery.
Master Dashki, I understand your anger burns bright like the sun. You said that the Kuldis tribe was your family. You were raised by them? Help us understand. Hajar motions for the others to back away.
making another diplo check in case it's needed. I think maybe we burned our bridges, literally
diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22

Hajar nar Jundi |

ok there are some serious timeline issues here. Dave ill send you a pm

Leyli Wildspeaker |

I thought you brought Dashki back, if they are in the hills then yea disregard my post.

Hajar nar Jundi |

I did not, my only post involved reviving him and then trying a diplo check. I said nothing about returning him to the statue. The last thing he needs to see are the corpses at the statue.

Hajar nar Jundi |

I understand. Were they responsible for murdering your family or was that another tribe?
gonna hold off posting a bunch more until Gunk and Naziri check in, maybe they have something to say
diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28

GM: Dave the Dwarf |

Yes it was my own pack that killed my father...then I was kicked out from my tribe. I began to hunt my brothers then. I worked as a tracker and guide for hire. Three weeks ago my tribe found me again and killed the humans I was working for. They told me to spy on Almah and tell her to allie with the Three Jaws. Once you cleared the city we would descend and take it from you while you were weak from fighting. The Three Jaws would then rule the city.

![]() |

Still waiting for loot results for the grunt gnolls. Shall we assume we returned to the monastery? Oh save us some posting here: shall we all agree on the way back not to mention Dashki's treachery? If Almah asks we can say that we took a couple of prisoners so that we can hopefully by magic turn them into allies (out of earshot of the prisoners!).

GM: Dave the Dwarf |

Dashki was a boy when his mother, grandfather and village was killed by gnolls. His father tought him how to hunt and kill gnolls. In their first raid his father dies brutally. He is then adopted and raised/abused by the same gnolls. He adapts and survives almost becomes a gnoll. Then they kick him out of the tribe because they want him to be a spy. Dashki learns to be a human again. His gnoll family completly cuts contact with him, he tries to contact him he is ignored. So now he hates gnolls and hunts them for gold. Three weeks ago he is contacted by the tribe they want him back in but he has to spy on Almah. He has no place but then he sees a paladin try to save the life of a gremlin. At the meeting to form an aliance the gnolls are far from nice. He is chased down burned yes but also healed. The paladin then speaks nice to him instead of hitting him he sees a way out where he dosent have to shed blood or see blood shed for the first time in his life

Leyli Wildspeaker |

Raj, I would say that after looting, we can wait for them at the statue since they would plan to clean it more than likely. We also have 2 gnolls bound by your rope. So do you guys want to wait for them or go ahead at the monastery and bring back these gnolls as prisoners?

![]() |

When Gunk, Dashki, and the others return, there is no shortage of snarling and threatening from the gnolls towards Dashki, but a quick chastising administered by a quarterstaff to the head quiets them down. Fight along side us, and when Kelmarane is taken you will be free to go back to your tribe. Should you turn against us, or fulfill any of your threats, well, you've seen how fast we can cut you down.
Shall we return to the monastery to plan our next attack? Or shall we try and prove our new friends tonight?

GM: Dave the Dwarf |

Dashki shudders when Raj speaks of returning to his tribe.
I have no desire to live as a gnoll again...

Leyli Wildspeaker |

"Well they are a little wounded, we would probably waste an asset if we are to use them. I say let's head back, heal up and plan our next attack."

Hajar nar Jundi |

Hajar and the others will return eventually, Dashki will be given back his belongings, but not his weapons just yet. Before Hajar, Dashki, Gunk and Akim return to the statue Hajar will attend to Dashki's wounds.
LOH Two Uses: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7
Upon the foursome's return to the statue Hajar will ask that the gnolls are removed from the vicinity and then make the following speech.
Comrades in arms, this man Dashki is my personal friend. He has suffered much and has given himself into my protection. He is unarmed and no harm should come to him from us. His role in tonights unpleasantness, is best left unremembered. He will make amends for his actions in his own way. It is my sincere wish that the gnolls master Raj captured be treated mercifully. We will question them and decide their fate once we return to St. Vardishal's monastery

Hamzah Hamas Al Dajannah |

When Hajar returns, Hamzah will sit with Dashki and treat him kindly. He listens to his story. After a time reassuring the man he will be fine, he speaks with the others.
"I have seen and heard enough. My name is Hamzah Hamas Al Dajannah. In the Keleshite tongue that means 'Fire of Heaven'. I have tried to assist my brother Hajar with his desire to redeem gnolls. It makes my soul sick to do it. I am not Sarenrae's mercy. I am her swift justice. I see nothing in these gnolls worth redeeming. I will not waste another moment pursuing their redemption unless they fall before me and beg for it. You can do as you wish Hajar, but gnolls will die by my hand from this moment on. They are a blight upon this land and so numerous that attempting to redeem them could waste a life I would rather spend doing good in the world for those that have earned good treatment."
"I have no wish to work with these gnolls we have taken prisoner. I would sooner see the evil jackals slain. They are traitorous and their presence sickens me. I will not pretend that creatures that talk of eating the young of even their own kind are worthy of mercy or of Sarenrae's light."
"If the majority of you wish to align with these gnolls to attack the other gnolls so be it. I am not one to force my ways on others. I wish no part of it. I will not speak with them other than to learn what I need to know to destroy those that occupy Kelmarene. I will not heal them. I will not waste anymore of my time with them. The ones in Kelmarene will die. Let the Sun purify and cleanse their evil from this land."
"I am sorry, Hajar. I cannot hide who I am any longer. I was born for a purpose. That purpose was not to redeem gnolls. I will destroy them with the power of the Dawnflower as they deserve."
Once Hamzah finishes, he rises, and returns to watch over Dashki.

Leyli Wildspeaker |

"Hmm traitorous. Now that you mention it, if we ever use them how are we going to know that they will stay serving us? Killing them is sounding more reasonable, however, would your friend right there be comfortable in 'disposing' these gnolls?" as Leyli looks in the direction of Dashki.
