Loot Sheet

The bustling desert city of Wati is near bursting with excitement. Adventurers from every corner of the Inner Sea region have assembled here beneath the hot Osirian sun to explore the tombs of the city's necropolis, waiting only to be assigned their first sites for exploration. Surrounding the participants, the public has gathered to observe the ceremony as well. There is a festival-like quality in the air, and numerous street vendors are hawking goods and refreshments to participants
and spectators alike. Some merchants have even brought what can only be considered adventuring gear to sell as last minute convenience items to explorers, while others advertise that they'll buy recovered treasures and antiquities from those who visit their establishments.

In front of the imposing edifice of the Grand Mausoleum, an immense awning has been erected between decorated pillars in the market to provide shade for the priests of Pharasma overseeing the lottery. Beneath the awning, two urns sit atop a table elevated a few feet above the ground on a wooden stage constructed for the event. The high priestess of the Grand Mausoleum, Sebti the Crocodile, sits behind the table, while two acolytes confer with her at either side.

Gathered around the party are a number of other adventuring parties. To the left, an ensemble of women dressed in dusty rags, shouldering bandoliers of knives and stabbing weapons. Off to the right, a rag-tag group of halflings all sporting topknots. Behind you, a raven-black tengu squawks under its breath, his human companions forming a protective circle. In front of you, a half-ogre lazily twirls a club around, while his dwarf friends narrowly avoid being clobbered.

-----

Feel free to interact with the other groups if you'd like to. We can play this section out as much as everyone wants, or just get moving to the main event.

There are links in the text above for everyone's viewing pleasure.

Hopefully I didn't have some fevered dream.

I tried googling, but no luck.

Wasn't there an early AP which had the PCs attending some sort of masquerade ball, or a dinner or something, and there was a bunch of RPing to have to get some information from aristocrats?

For OOC chat

You are the newest members of the Licktoad Tribe. Or at least hope to be. For now, though, you're whelps-ravenous, amoral, grumpy goblin children who learned to stop eating rocks and mud only a few months ago. But with every day that passes, your whelping cage seems smaller and smaller. The outside world increasingly beckons to your goblin curiosity (and appetite), but the hateful cage bars hold you at bay.

There are whelps who flourish in the cage, even as the smaller and weaker ones are thinned out. Kettlehead stands literally head and shoulders above the competition, being a goblin of impeccable flatulence and having already fashioned himself an impressive hat from a teapot lying too close to the cages. Even adult goblins—legendary Chief Rendwattle Gutwad among them—have taken note of Kettlehead and his advanced skills of poking the rest of you with sticks and delivering bruise-inducing noogies.

But today is special. Today, instead of a bucket of fish heads, whelp-wrangler Loptop brought a key and unlocked the door to your cage, spilling you sorry lot into the world for the first time. Other Licktoads gather around, eyeballing you and chewing on the fish heads that should have been yours.

“You all are too big for cages,” Loptop snorts. “But you’re not Licktoads yet. Licktoads
gotta be useful. Licktoads gotta be tough! Licktoads gotta earn
their places in the tribe. And that’s what you’re gonna do now!
Show us where you belong, even if that ends being the boneyard!”

Loot Sheet

Your eyes gummy with sleep, you wake up in the dark.

Memories come flooding back--ringing laughter of a wild party, the heady joy of excess, the scents of rich stewed meat and perfume still lingering in your nostrils.

The pleasant memories are quickly replaced by a pounding headache, the sickly taste of cheap wine in your mouth, and an itchy straw pallet beneath you.

As you sit up, a door creaks open, and the harsh light of a lantern painfully spears your eyes.

A beautiful human woman flanked by four armored men carrying daggers enter the room. She frowns at the party, and starts talking.

“My master sends his apologies for your abduction. Each of you has been chosen for a singular purpose—everyone here, myself included, is going to be erased from existence. I have lived in these hinterlands my whole life, and although I love this land, it has seen more than its share of misery in recent years."

She walks over to a crate, opens the lid, and continues.

“The city of Cusp, once a legend, is now a real place. It winked into existence around the same time Sandpoint faced its last goblin raid. Since then, it's time-plague has spread into the surrounding countryside, and grows more intense every year.”

“My master needs to enter the lowest levels of the dungeon complex at the heart of the city, but he can't do it alone. He needs help. Your help."

Male Not man enough to be human

Character generation has pretty much been wrapped up...a few stragglers, but that's okay.

After deciding to run these dungeon levels, I realized there's no map for the city of Cusp. I'm working on it, and should have it ready by the time the party gets there.

If anyone remembers, I said I was 'borrowing' some elements from the intro to a paizo AP. It turned into nearly a complete scene-for-scene comparison.

Looking at it, if I wanted to run Skull & Shackles, that's what I would have done.

I've already planned an alternative story thread, but if anyone IS interested in being a long-term slave, winning your freedom, let me know now.

Tucked away in the hinterlands of the Lost Coast, a small village known only as Cusp winks in and out of existence.

Here, time is fluid, and doesn't always move in one direction. Many are the stories of adventurers trapped inside the nearby dungeon complex, never to be seen again.

The chronomasters wreak havoc with timelines, uninterested in the chaos they create.

The crater holds the dungeon complex, where adventuring parties can collect a fortune-keeping it may be problematic, as the current leaders of Cusp have taken their positions through backstabbing, thievery, and outright murder.

When spring comes to Brinestump Marsh, it retches, and coughs out a new batch of goblin whelps.

Take on the roles of the latest wretches as they venture out into the world and make names for themselves.

We B4 Goblins

I've ran this adventure before and had oodles of fun with it. Hopefully everyone can make it to the finish line, and we can continue with the "Goblin AP", or look at other adventures.

Player Expectations:
* Make sure you read the details on my profile page...no sense recreating it here.

* As I said above, I think momentum is everything in PBP. The more you post, the more other players post, the more I post. If you're going to be away from your computer, I certainly understand, but please let me know. I'm expecting this to last about 6 months, so I'll certainly be offline at times during that. Similarly, if you have to drop out for whatever reason, let us know. Players just disappearing is really frustrating.

* Communication is key. Whether it is letting me know of a vacation where you might not have internet access, questions about some minutiae of game play, or simple clarifications; communication is how I gauge how engaged my players are, and how I can tune the adventure so that everyone is enjoying themselves. If you don’t think it’s important to let the other players and GM know when you aren’t going to be able to post for a few days, this is not the PbP for you.

* Have fun! This is one of the most important, because if you aren't having fun, why are you playing? Of course, this applies to everyone else too. So, don't be a jerk. If you want to have fun, then this is the PbP for you!

Character Creation:
Choose one of the pre-gens, or follow these rules:

Sources: PF Core rules, PF bestiary, Goblins of Golarion
Stats: 20 point buy, no stat higher than 18 or lower than 8 post-racial adjustments
Race: Goblin only
Class: Any Paizo NPC class
Level: 1st
Alignment: Any evil
Hit Points: Max
Gold: 50 gp (any left over disappears)
Treasures: Even locked in a cage goblins will find useless bits of garbage
Traits: Goblin
Song: How creative can you get?

Character Backgrounds
Since this adventure starts out with the PCs locked in a cage since their birth, treated like little more than rabid dogs, your background would be pretty predictable. Instead, describe your weeks spent in the whelp cages, and any humiliations you've faced. Note, there is one particular goblin whelp, Kettlehead, who seems to be the tribe favorite.

What I want from you right now
I want your character concept (class, focus, how you see your character progressing over the first few levels, though I certainly understand this could change) and background. I do NOT need you to do the crunch now (though if you want to, I'm not going to knock you for that). I also do not need it to be in its own alias at this point, though I will want that when gameplay starts.

I also want you to give me 3 things:

* A list of driving forces, aspirations or secret desires. Basically, what drives you to be a member of the Licktoad tribe?

* An IC post describing what you want to do once out of your cage, and free to explore the Brinestump Marsh, where the goblin adventures take place. Maybe you want to explore one of the caves, visit a shipwreck, or go play with the ugly rat at the longshank witch hut, but feel free to come up with your own reason (don't worry if you don't know the swamp and it doesn't match; we can change things as necessary). Write it as if you are talking to another whelp in the cages with you (maybe a fellow applicant). Ideally it will be a "pushing" post (make sure you read Painlord's guide!) This is your other big chance to impress me with your writing skills, which is what I'm going to ultimately base my decision on.

* How long have you been playing PbP? New players are encouraged to submit. I'd like to have at least two relative novices in this group, because I know how hard it can be to get into a PBP (I started GM'ing because I got frustrated at how hard it was to get into a game that didn't end a week later).

I'll leave recruitment open for a week. Next Sunday (Dec 16) I'll make the final decisions.

Looking forward to everyone's builds.

Steady drizzle falls from the ash-gray sky. The walls of Fort Inevitable seem especially bleak and frightful this evening, the ramparts hunched over under the tireless rain. Ladge has ridden ahead to secure entry into the fort, leaving you all to follow the muddy road on your own. The smell of wood smoke fills your nose from the nearby inn, a single light burning from inside. You also hear the sound of water trundling down the roof, splashing into the space between the inn and a barn.

A sudden, plaintive cry for help splits the night air. It seems to be coming from the stable.

Male Not man enough to be human

The game starts off with everyone having already met, on their way to Fort Inevitable. If you want to describe yourselves/make intros, do so here.

I'll have a first game post up tomorrow.

Now that I'm back in "game mode", I'm looking to expand my horizons with something that gets me uber-excited -- The Emerald Spire.

The last game I started appeared to have a lot of excitement, and we're currently at 2 players.

With that in mind, I'm not going to start up a game after getting only a few interested people. I want people who are really committed.

For now, throw me your character ideas, using the guidelines below:

Books: CRB, anything from Paizo. If you're not sure, just ask.

Players: 4-6 PCs

Character Creation: 20 point buy, wealth: roll for class, if below average, bump up to average, 2 traits, hit points will be max at level 1, alignment: no evil.

Play style: Lots of combat, roleplaying/party banter, use of combat maps.

Posting Style: Make sure you're using bold for speech, out of character for out of game questions/clarification, and italics for your thoughts.

Selection: I'll be choosing based on a personal interest factor and what I feel would make a well-rounded party make-up. If I see something that looks extra cool though, expect to get a private message from me.

So go ahead and show me your best characters. I’m interested to see who shows up.

...And so this lesson begins not in the sprawling metropolis of lunar base, but on the cramped, worn out colony of Outcast Station, the young instructor says, flicking the tablet display with her thumb. A place of chaos, distrust, and ruthless gang lords and pirate kings -- these are the stories of Outcast Station. Not the peace-seeking leaders of Liberty Station, nor the efficiency of Yuro Station or Cosmos. It is a different station... a different station indeed. Her eyes flick across the students assembled, then look back down at the tablet. And yet it is here, on a tiny transport ship called The Eclipse - an unassuming ship - that the heroes gather...

---------------------------------

Sir, we're still getting fluctuations in the shield generator," Richter said, tapping the readout at the helm controls.

Captain Welker moved over to stand behind Richter to see the diagnostic report.

"Nothing we haven't had to deal with before," the orca captain replied.

Richter shrugged his dolphin shoulders. "Normally I'd agree, but our route takes us dangerously close to the Graveyard."

Welker evaluated the situation and returned to his seat. Activating the internal comm system, he addressed Decker, his kangaroo engineer.

"Mr. DEckert, please schedule the shield generator for repairs at our earliest convenience. Until then, keep it working."

Knowing that Decker would keep things running despite the order, Welker closed the comm channel.

Looking out the main viewport at Liberty Station, Welker frowned as he thought about leaving the safety of the sprawling station, and heading into the backwaters of the Zone.

A minor thump throughout the ship indicating the airlock had been disconnected broke the captain out of his thoughts. "I'm off to greet the passengers. Richter, you have the con."

---------------------------------

There are four other passengers on board.

Myke - professional fighter.
Ash Deadwood - reporter following Myke.
Ocean - human girl who wears a goodie
Finger - soldier-type

Hey everyone, it's been a long time since I've done any Pathfinder gaming, so want to go easy on myself and do something relatively simple.

Id like to start with We B4 Goblins.

With the expectation that everyone who starts out will make it to the finish line, we could either continue with the "Goblins AP", or branch off into another adventure.

I'm also interested in reliving some events/encounters around Sandpoint from the goblin point of view.

I like games that clip along: I expect everyone to post 5-10 times a week (ideally daily, although I know weekends can be a crap-shoot). It's been shown that PBPs build on their own steam. The more people post, the more they want to post. If you don't post, I lose interest and am less inclined to post updates, which then leads to players losing interest. I have been in games that quickly devolved and were abandoned. So I want people who are really committed.

Player Expectations:
* Make sure you read the details on my profile page...no sense recreating it here.

A week's usually long enough for recruitment, so let's say you must post your pitch by 5 p.m. (PST) July 15. I'll try to have my decision made by the following Monday if not earlier.

Lately, the post-apocalypse nerve is starting to twitch. Having always been a fan of the After the Bomb books, I have cannabalized the parts that I liked, and meshed them into my own crazy setting.

Humans, moreaus, and Franks. Those are your 3 choices of race. There could be other races lurking out at the Mars Outpost, but no one has heard from them in nearly 100 years.

Earth is cut off...it looms large in the background, an eternal tease.

Space stations once aligned with their respective countries back on earth have formed their own governments, and battle against each other.

Mega-corporations still mine the asteroid belt.

The lunar colony hates nearly everyone, and there are rumors of an alliance with the Estacao station which could bring all out war to the rest of the orbiting stations.

Relics and forgotten technology lay just out of reach in low earth orbit, where drones bristling with weapons destroy anything coming near earth.

And then there's you the heroes....

Are you a lowly asteroid miner enjoying some vacation time? A soldier fighting to protect your home station? A reporter with a palm-cam in one hand, and a blaster in the other?

Your choices are endless, but will all lead to a confrontation which could devestate both the citizens of orbit, and the earth lying in wait below.

I seem to remember scanning through one of the AP modules where there was a big party (like a ball or something), and for the life of me I can't remember which module it was.

Does anyone know what I'm thinking of?

Not having access to an oversized printer, I decided to make my own battlemap...

Google Drive Folder

Too late I realized the stairs are going in the wrong direction...but it works for my game.

Should have the entire level finished tonight. Will add another pic later on...

While helping the players make more personal connections with the townsfolk of Ravengro, one of my PCs was deputized by Caeller, well before Gibs slaughters him.

The plan is to have that PC become the new sheriff after Gibs' attack. Other than having to abandon ship later when they head off to Lepidstadt, does anyone see any problems with this?

Does anyone know the name of the forest west of Ravengro. I've scoured Rule of Fear and the AP modules, but nothing seems to be written about it.

Running a Carrion Crown PBP, and the first post, I added the title 'A Somber Morning', and now that's my game title. Not really what I wanted.

It should be 'Carrion Crown AP'.

Carrion Crown Gameplay Thread. If I can get this changed, that'd be fantastically wonderful :)

Part One: The Haunting of Harrowstone

Pharasma slouches towards Ravengro, after the unfortuanate passing of my father, Profesor Petros Lorrimor. In his will, he has asked that you attend to his funeral party, and listed you as a benificiary to his estate. The proceedings will commence on the 7th of Sarenith, once everyone has assembled at the Restlands, outside of Ravengro.

Signed, Kendra Lorrimor

With the wax seal cracked open only three weeks ago, the news of the Professor's death is still fresh in everyone's mind. It is a cool summer morning, the sun slow to rise, and the normal chittering of birds scaled back to a few somber peeps and chirps. Huddled near the rusted and pitted wrought iron entrance to the Restlands is a group of people dressed in black and grays. Beside them sits an ornate wooden coffin.

The group consists of three men, a young boy and two women. Two of the men are old. The first one is short and pudgy, sporting several chins. He's constantly wiping his pale, sweaty face and neck with a well-used rag. The second is tall, broad in the shoulders, with a thick head of silver hair and well-manicured goatee, who keeps stealing sideways glances at any women within eyeshot. Both of them are wearing black suits.

The third man is middle-aged, and has the proportions of a barrel. Bloodshot eyes, and short brown hair in disarray, with crumbs of food in his thick handlebar mustache, he appears to be the least comfortable near the graveyard, as he casts nervous looks at the nearby gravestones. He keeps his arm around the young boy next to him. Where the man is portly, the boy is skinny as a pole, but they share enough facial features to indicate that there's a close relation. One of the women is petite, in her late 30s. Her auburn hair has been pulled back into a tight bun. Pushing her wire-framed spectacles up the bridge of her nose, she fidgets with a book clasped in her hands, crossed across her chest.

The other woman is tall, attractive, in her mid-twenties. She's wearing a conservative red dress and has her milk chocolate hair pulled up into a loose bun. Her eyes are black, like she hasn't been sleeping. Her almond-colored eyes are red and puffy, as if she had been crying recently. Looking up as you approach, she forces herself to smile. "Oh, hello. I'm Kendra Lorrimor. You must be one of the beneficiaries of the will. Might I have your name?"

The gathered crowd stops talking amongst themselves and look up, watching the newcomers cautiously.

You can describe your characters and introduce yourself. Everyone arrives at basically the same time. Whoever posts first is who Kendra addresses. Feel free to describe your morning before the funeral if you feel so inclined.

To start off with, a picture of Professor Lorrimor.

Is there a policy for using published maps/artwork for pbp games?

Example: using a published map...do I have to recreate it or can I use it as-is from the pdf?

I squinted at the Ustalav side of the river. In the distance, the Hungry Mountains had just gnawed the sun to death, smearing the sky with blood.

Welcome to the Immortal Principality of Ustalav. Tucked away on the northern shore of Lake Encarthan, it is a grim bastion of civilization amid the barbarian savages of the north. A history rich in tragedies inspires a wary population with skepticism, religious devotion, and superstition.

Hundreds of years of subjugation at the hands of the Whispering Tyrant and the residual horrors that plague the countryside have left the people of Ustalav suspicious of nonhumans, magic, religion, foreigners, and their fellow citizens.

Player Recruitment
Ideally, a party of 4 PCs will get the game rolling, but if there's a character that I absolutely fall in love with, I'll expand the number of players as necessary. It won't be first-come first-serve, as that isn't fair to anyone who happens to come across the thread late.

Recruiting will be open until April 18, at which time I'll go over the submissions over the weekend, and contact those selected. Gameplay will commence on April 21.

Character Creation
Stats: 20 point buy
Books: Core, Advanced Player's Guide, Ultimate Magic
Races: Any core race
Level: 1
HP: Max 1st level, 1/2 HD or roll (whichever is higher) at subsequent levels
Classes: Any core, advanced player's guide, ultimate magic
Background: All the PCs know Professor Petros Lorrimor. This portion of your background is vital to the first few opening scenes of the AP.
Your Plan: A general outline for your character. A cleric may want to see every shrine in Ustalav devoted to her deity, and build a new temple. A mage may wish to discover a famous tome of spells and teach them, or lock them away forever.
Prestige Class: If somewhere down the road, you want to spend some time in a prestige class, note that as well.

Gunslinger & Firearms
The PCs are aware of firearms, knowing them when they see them.

For Gunslingers:
Period of firearms is restricted to Early Firearms.

The pistoleer archetype is not allowed, to make the guns a little more hazardous.

Gunslingers are required to create and repair their weapons, as well as craft their bullets and make their own powder.

Posting
Generally, I'll check the game threads at night, between 8 & 9pm PST. If waiting on a response (ie, init roll or NPC interaction) and nothing has been posted, that "turn" will be considered forfeited, and I'll make a ruling on what happened.

When time allows, I'll make more frequent posts throughout the day, but I don't expect everyone to sit on the boards 24 hours a day in the off-chance that I have some free time.

If you know that you'll be unavailable on a certain date, please let the group know ahead of time as far in advance as possible.

AP Generalities
It is a game of gothic horror, akin to Ravenloft, HP Lovecraft, and Edgar Allan Poe.

Your characters don't have the benefit of movies and tv shows to numb them to the horrors of the walking dead, vampiric curses, or jaw-gnashing werewolves. Being only first level, the above monsters may only exist in the realm of fairy tales, or ghost stories told along the trail.

As appropriate, I'll allow some free RPing before combat as the PCs first encounter some of the monsters which are taken for granted in a "normal" campaign.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I have a player who's background involves a dealing with the Pathfinder Society. According to the background, they got a wayfinder, which is 500gp. I dropped the price to 50gp, and now I need to figure out what to do with it.

My first thought was a compass and a cheap piece of glass, made to look like a wayfinder.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Travelling to the four corners of Katapesh, a no-nonsense major-domo named Garavel has collected a rag-tag group of adventurers to help a merchant princess reclaim Kelmarane, a remote village in northwest Katapesh. The village once dominated the southern end of a trade route between Katapesh and Osirion, but fell upon hard times, abandoned, and now rumored to be the home of a tribe of gnolls owing allegiance to someone called the "Carrion King."

The ruined village represents a great possibility to the Pactmasters of Katapesh. Should the village be reclaimed and rebuilt, the resulting trade would strengthen Katapesh's western and northern reaches, regions which have had to face the horrors of gnolls, monsters, and worse.

Having set out from Solku a week ago as part of a dreary camel caravan, Garavel has been tight-lipped about your destination. The most answer he offers is the northern Scrublands.
As night starts to descend on the land, you can just make out the immense outline of Pale Mountain looming over the mid-evening horizon like a tombstone.

Players are free to interact with one another, and describe themselves in general.

Want to start a LoF game, using Pathfinder rules.

I'm working out of town for 3 weeks at a time, and would be able to do 1 major post per day. I'll be offline until about 7pm PST daily.

If anyone is interested, or any questions, feel free to respond. Hoping to start in mid-March.

Hello x-mas wish list :)

I just bought 'Souls for Smuggler's Shiv' today at my FLGS. I only made it to page 13 when my wife came and picked me up, but I can tell I'm going to have a lot of fun running this.

:)

This is more in the planning/preliminary phase.

Don't want to spend too much energy developing something no one is going to play.

Two options of era I would run are Enterprise or TNG/Voyager.

I decided on d20 because of two reasons:

1. I already have the rulebooks
2. I'm already familiar with the rules

Enterprise Campaign
Archer was not able to destroy the spheres in the Expanse, allowing the Xindi to continue building up their forces.

The party is a group of specially trained operatives who are sent into the Expanse to find Archer, and neutralize the Xindi threat.

TNG/Voyager Campaign
After Voyager returns to earth, they are unaware that a new type of borg probe has been following in their wake. Arriving 1 month after Voyager, the probe assimilates Jupiter station, and prepares a defensive perimeter for a borg offensive which is en-route.

The party has to infiltrate the new borg unimatrix, and stop the queen who is growing inside.

Is there a way to be "uninterested" in a thread once you've looked at it?

Are there any maps of the area around Riddleport, kind of like the hinterlands around Sandport?

3 people marked this as a favorite.

The dark cloud hanging over the city of Riddleport is far from most people's minds as small groups congregate, and choke off passage through the wharf district.

Vendors hawk their wares, charlatans ply their trade, and numerous games of luck are taking place along the sides of the street.

A handful of guards are present, yet not enough to take any serious action if something got out of hand.

Pulling out the flier announcing the re-opening of the Gold Goblin, you come to a building which has the look of once being the jewel of the wharf district. It's brass domes has dulled with time, some of the stained-glass windows smashed out, and a section of wall threatening to fall outward into the street.

Perhaps this new tournament, 'Cheat the Devil and Take his Gold' is a sign of improvement in this run-down district.

Male Not man enough to be human

We'll discuss tweaks, backgrounds, and anything else needed to get everything set up before we're live. Today is Monday, so I'm looking at Wednesday for the first official post.

I'm at work in the afternoons, so I may not get a chance to reply to any questions until later tonight (unless work slows down).

After a very long hiatus from gaming, and little RL gaming time on my hands, I have come back to the paizo fold. :)

I am looking for 4 or 5 players, and plan on at least 2 posts per day.

If you're proposing something other than from the core PF rules, please let me know what the source is so I can look it over. Not saying it won't be allowed, but I would prefer to stay true with the PF rulesets. The only character races not allowed would be drow, duergar, or any other classically evil races.

Abilities will be purchased with 20 points.

The following items will be 'given' to you (no cost for purchase): backpack, waterskin, 1 days rations, flint and steel.

A short summary of your character, and possible reasons to be in Riddleport are helpful. The more 'tantalizing' your character, the more I'll give it deeper consideration.
