Current Combat

Hey everyone, it's been a long time since I've done any Pathfinder gaming, so want to go easy on myself and do something relatively simple.

Id like to start with We B4 Goblins.

With the expectation that everyone who starts out will make it to the finish line, we could either continue with the "Goblins AP", or branch off into another adventure.

I'm also interested in reliving some events/encounters around Sandpoint from the goblin point of view.

I like games that clip along: I expect everyone to post 5-10 times a week (ideally daily, although I know weekends can be a crap-shoot). It's been shown that PBPs build on their own steam. The more people post, the more they want to post. If you don't post, I lose interest and am less inclined to post updates, which then leads to players losing interest. I have been in games that quickly devolved and were abandoned. So I want people who are really committed.

Player Expectations:
* Make sure you read the details on my profile page...no sense recreating it here.

* As I said above, I think momentum is everything in PBP. The more you post, the more other players post, the more I post. If you're going to be away from your computer, I certainly understand, but please let me know. I'm expecting this to last about 6 months, so I'll certainly be offline at times during that. Similarly, if you have to drop out for whatever reason, let us know. Players just disappearing is really frustrating.

* Communication is key. Whether it is letting me know of a vacation where you might not have internet access, questions about some minutiae of game play, or simple clarifications; communication is how I gauge how engaged my players are, and how I can tune the adventure so that everyone is enjoying themselves. If you don’t think it’s important to let the other players and GM know when you aren’t going to be able to post for a few days, this is not the PbP for you.

* Have fun! This is one of the most important, because if you aren't having fun, why are you playing? Of course, this applies to everyone else too. So, don't be a jerk. If you want to have fun, then this is the PbP for you!

Character Creation:

Choose one of the pre-gens, or follow these rules:

Sources: PF Core rules, PF bestiary, Goblins of Golarion
Stats: 20 point buy, no stat higher than 18 or lower than 8 post-racial adjustments
Race: Goblin only
Class: Any Paizo NPC class
Level: 1st
Alignment: Any evil
Hit Points: Max
Gold: 50 gp (any left over disappears)
Treasures: Even locked in a cage goblins will find useless bits of garbage
Traits: Goblin
Song: How creative can you get?

Character Backgrounds
Since this adventure starts out with the PCs locked in a cage since their birth, treated like little more than rabid dogs, your background would be pretty predictable. Instead, describe your weeks spent in the whelp cages, and any humiliations you've faced. Note, there is one particular goblin whelp, Kettlehead, who seems to be the tribe favorite.

What I want from you right now
I want your character concept (class, focus, how you see your character progressing over the first few levels, though I certainly understand this could change) and background. I do NOT need you to do the crunch now (though if you want to, I'm not going to knock you for that). I also do not need it to be in its own alias at this point, though I will want that when gameplay starts.

I also want you to give me 3 things:

* A list of driving forces, aspirations or secret desires. Basically, what drives you to be a member of the Licktoad tribe?

* An IC post describing what you want to do once out of your cage, and free to explore the Brinestump Marsh, where the goblin adventures take place. Maybe you want to explore one of the caves, visit a shipwreck, or go play with the ugly rat at the longshank witch hut, but feel free to come up with your own reason (don't worry if you don't know the swamp and it doesn't match; we can change things as necessary). Write it as if you are talking to another whelp in the cages with you (maybe a fellow applicant). Ideally it will be a "pushing" post (make sure you read Painlord's guide!) This is your other big chance to impress me with your writing skills, which is what I'm going to ultimately base my decision on.

* How long have you been playing PbP? New players are encouraged to submit. I'd like to have at least two relative novices in this group, because I know how hard it can be to get into a PBP (I started GM'ing because I got frustrated at how hard it was to get into a game that didn't end a week later).

A week's usually long enough for recruitment, so let's say you must post your pitch by 5 p.m. (PST) July 15. I'll try to have my decision made by the following Monday if not earlier.

My character submission is nearly finished. But could you clarify how many traits are expected? One goblin trait? Or two, one of which is a goblin trait?

Also, what are the treasures supposed to be? The sort of thing in the equipment section of the rules, or simply trash?

1 trait, doesn't HAVE to be goblin.

Treasures = trash.

I wanta be a goblin!

So your saying any class but all you get is pebbles and sticks for gear and items? If not why am I in a cage, I want out, I use my dagger!

Ill write something up, please clear up that gear thing though.

Dirts, you take this old armor from longshank, and give me dagger. Good trade. Look in muck hole for other gear...find good stuff.

If you look at the pre-gens, they each have armor and something low-key related to the class they'll eventually take, then a bunch of personal garbage. Remember, you're a bunch of whelps who haven't earned their place in the tribe yet.

Not going to play, but I ran a similar game a little while back here, and here is the actual game. It died off quickly though.

Hope it helps!

Here's my submission. (I might still change a few details.)

Stats:

LE Small humanoid (goblinoid)

Traits Balloon Headed

Treasure rusty paperclip, empty matchbox, torn portrait of a gnome baby

Song:

Tak likes burning stuff with fire
Tak likes hitting with a crash
Tak likes killing with a bash
Tak wished that his hands reached higher.

Background:

Tak was a scrawny goblin with a big head (housing, he believed, an extra-large brain). He endured a lot of lashing silently, but planned that once he would escape, at some point, he would make sure that each one of his oppressors would be paid back—not for his own sake, but so that they wouldn't oppress fellow goblins.

Character Concept:

Tak is a magic user who can fight in melee or ranged combat using his high Dexterity. His future seems to be most appropriate in a Wisdom-based casting class that can also fight. I was thinking particularly of becoming an inquisitor (maybe the variant with an animal companion).

Aspirations: To eradicate all enemies of goblinkind and all goblins who are unworthy of the name, and have revenge on his oppressors.

PbP experience:

Not a lot. This would be my second.

In-character post to follow.

Here is grimble, she is going to be expert most likely, possibly an adept... I'll start working on stats.

I'm super into spellcasters, and Expert seems remarkably close to my preferred spellcaster...

question, will we be taking actual player classes after we get out of the cage?

Once you make it through your first adventure, you'll get to "level up" to a normal class.

oh, so just to clarify, you mean "level up" as in replace our current class with a player one?

Edit;also which goblin book are the traits in? I'm haveing trouble finding them...

Yea...you replace your NPC class with a real class.

Traits: Goblins of Golarion

Darn, i don't have that book... i have all of the "We be Goblins" books but not that one :/

goblin traits in one of the last posts on that page.

Thinking about it...I'm cancelling the 50 gp. Dropping it to 5gp.

OH!!! THANKS SOOO MUCH!!

this will help greatly :D

here is the comleate Grimble Gramble Grumps :)

racial traits:
Goblinoid: Goblins are humanoids with the goblinoid subtype.

Small: Goblins are Small creatures and gain a +1 size bonus to their AC, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, a –1 penalty to their CMB and CMD, and a +4 size bonus on Stealth checks.

Fast: Goblins are fast for their size, and have a base speed of 30 feet.

Darkvision: Goblins can see in the dark up to 60 feet.

Eat Anything: Raised with little or no proper food, many goblins have learned to survive by eating whatever they happen across and can digest nearly anything without getting sick. Goblins with this trait gain a +4 on Survival checks to forage for food and a +4 racial bonus on saves versus effects that cause the nauseated or sickened conditions. This racial trait replaces skilled.

Languages: Goblins begin play speaking Goblin. Goblins with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following: Common, Draconic, Dwarven, Gnoll, Gnome, Halfling, and Orc.

traits:
Color Thief: Your skin is an odd tint that somehow
absorbs background colors. Maybe because your mother
drank a lot of potions when you were still inside her belly.
Maybe because you’ve been blessed by the barghests. Maybe
because you’re just better than the other boring goblins.
In any case, you gain a +2 trait bonus on Stealth checks,
providing you wear only light armor or no armor.

NPC class Crunch:
Expert
HP:10/10(1d8+2)
AC:14=10+(4dex,) init:+4
Fort:+2 Refl:+4 Will:+1
BAB=0

Skills/feats:

Skills(rank+class/ability/other)
Bluff,4
Craft(alchemy),4
Diplomacy,4
Intimidate,4
Know(local),4
Disable device,4
Ride,0
Survival,4
Spellcraft,4
Stealth,4

Feats
fire hand(Goblin Feat)

song:

Grimble Gramble Grump
Will Burn you to a stump!
Grimble Gramble do
What Grimble wants to!

background/fluff:

Grimble lives in a cage, she has taken several objects from outside the cage to together a cobbled dress, one made of scraps of garbage. she admires kettlehead, for his size and strength... she isn't very strong, but she is smart. she is almost thin fit through bars of the cage too. Only her head is too big.

her skin is a ruddy brown compared to most goblins' green. Her hair has been torn out and eaten, by her of course. and her eyes are small, beady, and dark red. She has a very fond relationship with fire, she loves it.

Plans for the future:
I am mostly planning on going alchemist with the Fire bomber archetype. she is going to blow things up :)

Motivation/drive: FIRE!!! FOOD!!! BOTH TOGETHER!!!! and also to kill/eat any non-goblins.

IC Story:
Grimble wants to touch fire!! Wants to EAT fire! Grimble Will do it, Grimble Knows me find way. Then, Grimble use fire to burn all the little Not-goblins'es! then see if they tase good, better than garbage me bets. Grimble turns to the goblin in the other cage, the whelp wasn't even listening. Grimble continues to ramble on... then i will try to see what else tases good! Me bets you that Pig taste good! see other goblins'es eating it, must taste goods... OH! and Grimble Will Wear clothes that fit her! little shards of glass and bone not real dress... OH, and Grimble will find way to make fire not hurt goblins, only not-goblins. she smiles devilishly with her large teeth and very wide grin

as for experiance, I'm pretty experianced in real life, but moderate in PbP, never finished a game yet :)

Quote:

LOL. Crazy goblins...

In-character post:

Tak walks to the marsh. He looks to see what is inside. When he sees it full of marsh animals (such as frogs and fish, I assume), his eyes light up at the opportunity for companionship. He reaches in and tries to grab one of them.

Goblin whelps so far:

• Tak
• Dirts
• Grimble

If no one else submits anything by tomorrow night, we'll go with these 3 and I'll make the first post Saturday.

You still have to help me with a few things remember before I can submit, I call you tomorrow.

Discussion and game play are open.

Bucko is a wee bit over the current level. Still plenty of time to come back to an NPC class...just getting started on the challenges.

Still 2 slots open if anyone is interested.
