Wayfinder

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I have a player who's background involves a dealing with the Pathfinder Society. According to the background, they got a wayfinder, which is 500gp. I dropped the price to 50gp, and now I need to figure out what to do with it.

My first thought was a compass and a cheap piece of glass, made to look like a wayfinder.

Anyone have any thoughts?

It's fine if they have it, so long as they can afford it with their starting gold. Starting doesn't represent how much they buy, but the wealth they have on hand when they start their careers as PCs. You could have an ancestral item passed down generation to generation for free, but you'd still need to count it against your starting gold.

Even at max gold, he'd have nothing else, and would owe me money.

Then I recommend him investing in this trait or saying he lost the wayfinder at some point of time. :)

Thanks cheapy :)

One thing you could do with the character is have their first adventure centered around their serch for their "family wayfinder". Their father (or who ever) left them a note and a puzzle etc. At the end of the adventure the wayfinder is their treasure. That way the character "Proves their worth to own the ancestral wayfinder" etc.

Just a thought.

There's a campaign-specific trait in the Council of Thieves Player's Guide that grants you a wayfinder, in exchange for a promise to pay back the cost of the item in the future. You may want to use that trait (or a modified version) for this character.

Are, they went with Seeking Adventure.
