Lately, the post-apocalypse nerve is starting to twitch. Having always been a fan of the After the Bomb books, I have cannabalized the parts that I liked, and meshed them into my own crazy setting.
Humans, moreaus, and Franks. Those are your 3 choices of race. There could be other races lurking out at the Mars Outpost, but no one has heard from them in nearly 100 years.
Earth is cut off...it looms large in the background, an eternal tease.
Space stations once aligned with their respective countries back on earth have formed their own governments, and battle against each other.
Mega-corporations still mine the asteroid belt.
The lunar colony hates nearly everyone, and there are rumors of an alliance with the Estacao station which could bring all out war to the rest of the orbiting stations.
Relics and forgotten technology lay just out of reach in low earth orbit, where drones bristling with weapons destroy anything coming near earth.
And then there's you the heroes....
Are you a lowly asteroid miner enjoying some vacation time? A soldier fighting to protect your home station? A reporter with a palm-cam in one hand, and a blaster in the other?
Your choices are endless, but will all lead to a confrontation which could devestate both the citizens of orbit, and the earth lying in wait below.

Hey GM Panic
I really like d20 modern, I've cut back how many games I am playing in, so I need to decide if I have time for one more. May as well inquire though, right?
So, tom_thiessen, What level are we starting at and how are you going to handle wealth/money? Also Are you allowing any character classes that are not in Modern or Future?
Just in case:
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (4, 6, 1, 6) - 1 = 16
4d6 - 3 ⇒ (4, 3, 4, 5) - 3 = 13
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (5, 2, 4, 1) - 1 = 11
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (4, 2, 4, 5) - 2 = 13
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (3, 1, 6, 1) - 1 = 10
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (3, 6, 2, 6) - 2 = 15

I didn't have anything in mind yet, just looking for the parameters. I just checked the old on-line d20 Modern System Reference Document and they are now defunct, so I will need to look elsewhere for actual classees and stats. I tend to use This site to set up a base character.

Assuming that no one has d20 apocalypse...
Trade is conducted with WU (water units)--will be explained at some point.
Each character starts with 4d10x2 WUs worth of equipment. Then take your occupation wealth bonus and multiply it by 2 for bonus WUs.
If you were a Technician, you'd get your 4d10x2 WUs + (3x2)=6 bonus WUs.
To determine the price of an item, take its purchase DC, round it up and divide by 2. A 12 gauge shotgun with a purchase DC of 16 is worth 8 WU.
There are no wealth checks. Once you buy an item, the WU is gone forever.
If an item's purchase DC is 1, it's 1 WU to buy it.

Gm what do you think of Android I would really like to play an android medic [Physician]. Kind of Auto Doc that has little combat skills, but is good with medical / Sciences / Computers.
I want to take the
Factual: While most androids have difficulty processing emotions, others instead have an inability to imagine things outside of physical and factual reality, making it difficult for them to deceive others. Such androids suffer a –4 penalty on Bluff checks.
line with him

So when it says post-apocalyptic, everyone is probably thinking mad max, book of eli, etc.
It sort of is...but there's also mecha, experimental ray guns, robots/androids (although these would be 1:60,000--so roughly 1 per major station), crazy space battles, mega-corporations....and anything else I think fits a space adventure I'd be excited to play in.
The most direct reference is the palladium game this was be based on. From there, it's whatever makes some sort of sense, or something I need to make the storyline work.
Didn't want anyone to be expecting to be exploring defunct space stations picking apart garbage to find a gear cog, and be dissapointed when a xenomorph comes crawling out of the wreckage.
It happened in my after the bomb game...Player dropped out because the reality didn't meet expectation.

Ok, I've tried reading up on it a bit and I think I have some of the basics down. Most of it looks pretty similar to PF in terms of what dice are used and how to play, but character generation is a bit different. I pick a basic class reflecting one of the six ability scores, then a career that determines some part of my skills. Then allocate skill points and maybe feats?
Is there a site that shows how to make a character from start to finish, or should I just buy the book? The SRD doesn't help much in that regard.
For futuristic space settings, I enjoy basic soldiers or marines who are good with an assault rifle and other various weaponry. What would you recommend for that?
(And if playing with a newbie for this game isn't what you want, I can bow out)

Bookrat: free download for char gen basics
If you want to buy the book, it wouldn't hurt.
You want tips for weapons? A bean bag launcher? LOL
Anything you find in the SRD would be available. The restrictions would still be in place...you can't have freebooters running around with station-obliterating weapons.
You're limited by your WUs and restrictions.
Being a soldier-type, you'd be from pretty much any of the stations.

Thanks!
4d10 ⇒ (3, 8, 4, 10) = 25 x 2 = 50 + 2 (military) = 52.
Can we purchase from any progress level in the d20 future section? If my character is accepted for this game, as a soldier, will I be on assignment, working on the station of choice, recently discharged from service, etc? Looking to know current occupation status related to this campaign to properly purchase equipment.

Sorry; I've been GMing a 5e game all day. Just got done.
Looking at the players guide, it says we're coming to this station to find fortune and treasure. So I'm thinking that my guy was sent here on a secret mission to find valuable artifacts or ancient secrets to help with the defense of his home station (not sure which one yet).
In the d20 Future Tech books, there are equipment packages. How would that mesh out with your starting wealth system?
DM Mutie |
Dotting for now with this character. Made her for two different d20 Modern games that fizzled out. She's a smart hero with an emphasis for technology.
You'll have to bring her back down to Level 1. And some background info, why she's on the Eclipse heading for Outcast Station.
Corporal Jazzming Brokato |
I'm working on that now. Once I get the stats updated, and go through the player's guide, will give you the full 4-1-1 on why she's heading out. Had to wait til I got home to do all that.
4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 4, 2) = 14-2=12
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 4, 5) = 19-4=15
4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 4, 4) = 15-1=14
4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 4, 6) = 15-2=13
4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 1, 5) = 10-1=9
4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 5, 5) = 21-5=16
Any way I can take a point from one score and bring that 9 to a 10?
Corporal Jazzming Brokato |
Mmkay, got all the crunch up and running. Here's a bit of fluff for ya.
Born in the sprawling Freedom Station, Jazzming Brokato grew up around the technology allowing them to survive in the harshness of space. Fascinated with everything around her, she spent her childhood learning everything she could. If something was going on involving technology, you could find her small frame right there, observing everything. As she grew older, the Station Security Council took notice of her passion for technology and quickly got her professional teaching.
As she became of age, Jazzming joined the security forces as a technician, helping to fix the various electrical and mechanical equipment employed by the station. As she worked, she was introduced to the gossip and rumors surrounding the mysterious Graveyard, and became fascinated with the thought of discovering some amazing piece of technology. She finally got her chance, as reports came in about Outcast Station's orbit bringing it almost right next to the debris field. As one of the station's best technical workers, she was sent on an undercover scouting mission to see if there were any truth to the rumors, and if so, bring back proof so they could mount a proper expedition.
Let me know what you think. Just a rough draft for now, plan on expanding it a bit more later on.
Corporal Jazzming Brokato |
Well, right now it's exactly what they told me, just a simple scouting mission, though I do have access to an encrypted channel to relay any information back to them. However, I am thinking about giving her a personal reason for heading out there, like a family member who went there and never returned or something similar.
