Society - Night in Nightarch

Venture-Captain Naiaj watches a map holographically projected onto the spherical wall of the dimly lit chamber. This meeting room is aptly named the “Starscape Chamber” and hosts various important strategic meetings for the Society. The pale bleachling gnome slightly nods a greeting, hardly looking away from the stellar map. "Thank you for meeting with me on such short notice," she says, as she finally turns away from the map. As you should already know, the Starfinder Society lost not only many agents but also a great deal of equipment in the Scoured Stars incident. Since then, we’ve been dealing with a shortage of guns, ammunition, armor, tools, and provisions. Over the past four months, the Society has recovered to the point that we are able to start replacing some of the equipment we lost. While we are explorers, right now, battle-ready firearms are sorely needed."

Naiaj momentarily turns to face the map and makes a request- "Starscape, show me Nightarch." The map on the wall zooms in on one of the outermost planets of the Pact Worlds, showing a gloomy, air-sealed settlement on the small gray planetoid identified as Apostae. "After calling in a lot of favors and holding lengthy negotiations, we managed to secure a deal with the drow of Apostae to obtain a shipment of weapons. House Zeizerer arranged a deal between the Starfinder Society and House Xicton, a lesser drow house with a solid track record on sales. I personally oversaw the negotiations, and only recently returned to Absalom Station to deposit the down payment owed to House Xicton."

"My intention was to send you to Nightarch, the drow’s surface settlement on Apostae, to guard this delivery." However, Naiaj pauses briefly, staring blankly at the map on the wall before continuing, "I just received word that the weapon shipment has been stolen. According to my contacts in Nightarch, the thief is a minor noble of House Zeizerer named Villyth, who went rogue and stole the weapons. We do not know her motives or the current whereabouts of the shipment, but I’m sending you to Nightarch to find the weapons and bring them to Absalom Station. As you may have heard, the interhouse politics of the drow are lethal and treacherous, and you will find only trouble if you start searching blindly. For this reason, I’ve arranged for you to meet with Ceobarn Zeizerer, who represents House Zeizerer in this specific matter. You are to discuss how the Society can get its shipment back without causing a diplomatic incident."

"Your shuttle is ready, so I expect you to get your things and get going as soon as possible. If you have any questions, now is the time to ask."

The time off between missions for agents of the Pathfinder Society is never long enough, and your time in the great city of Absalom is spent quite quickly. For a long time, you have had suspicions that this is done mostly on purpose by the venture captains, so that you are never grown too accustomed to a warm meal or a soft bed before you adventure into the consuming darkness that certainly awaits you at your destination.

The letter from Adril Hestram comes late in the afternoon, to set up a meeting with the veteran dungeon delver in his quarters at the Grande Lodge. Adril is a bear of a man, standing well over six feet tall, and you find him doing push ups in his study. He stop's as you come inside, and smirks, "There ye are. You're late, oh wait, no you're not! Come in, come in. You haven't gotten sloppy during your time off? Pietro, has your gut gotten bigger? Ha! Anyone care for an arm wrestle?" The man sits down on his large chair, and offers up his right arm as a challenge, you can see his building muscles pop from his rather formal Venture Captain attire.

Roll a straight strength check if you want.

If anyone decides to challenge Adril to an arm wrestle...:
Strength: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

The captain settles down, "Let's get down to business!" and begins whistling a small tune to "I'll Make a Man Out of You," before pressing on. "An old friend of mine reached out to me a few weeks ago, asking for my assistance with a small delve... so I told her I was retired! Ha! Only joking."

He quits his more jovial temper and turns serious. "It's an expedition, to retrieve an item of power a the tomb of an old civilization. That friend of mine requested assistance in securing and safeguarding it against those who would use it for ill among her own people. Her name's Aiyana, but she'll tell you the rest of her story. Before you meet her, though, I want you to know she's taken great risk upon herself several times on the Society's behalf. So, it's the least I could do to help her in return. I'd trust her with my life. And, I've trusted her with the lives of many others in the past."

"She is very good at smuggling people in and out of Nidal, and never makes it easy to find her. I have made arrangements for you to travel to the Atteran Ranches in northern Nidal. You must leave this note," he hands you a loosely tied scroll, "with the church of Desna, and meet with Aiyana on the next moon."

"Any questions?"

And we are off! Maps are up, please update your initiative and perception information there!

Your boots squash with fetid water as you plod through the puddles. A thick fog hangs in the air, seeming almost to caress the flesh with an unnatural chill. As you stand outside the Soggy Piper in a foot and a half of brackish brine, you try to recall what was so damned important to demand your presence in the halfflooded slum during Absalom’s rainy season. You remember your meeting at the Lodge just a few hours earlier with your Venture-Captain, Adril Hestram.

A bear of a man with only a few teeth remaining in his head, he motioned you into the meeting hall with a casual wave of his grizzled hand. The human captain outweighs most of Absalom’s half-orcs, and though a layer of beefy blubber coats his frame, those of you who have tangled with him in the Lodge sparring ring know that beneath this thin veneer of fat lies nothing but solid, steely sinew. Adril’s wild beard wags to the ponderous shake of his massive head as he examines a scrap of ancient parchment on the table before raising his eyes to greet your gaze and speaking:

"Come in then, friends, and thank you for answering my summons so swiftly. The society is in need. An old and quite penniless historian, a bespectacled wag-beard by the name of Yargos Gill has recently made a discovery in an old archive that we have a great interest in obtaining: an ancient codebook, left behind in the wake of one of Taldor’s many failed attempts at invasion. This several-hundred-year-old text would prove an excellent addition to our collection, and must be preserved. Yargos makes his home in ‘The Puddles,’ Absalom’s poorest district, suffering from a well-known reputation as a haven for lowlifes. Following an earthquake ten years ago, parts of the Puddles now rest below sea level, resulting in frequent and untimely flooding. Those who can afford not to live there—don’t. The district is the stomping ground of pimps, harlots, addicts, knifers, and hoards of unseemly derelicts. It’s never been a kind place, but recent reports reveal some new nameless terror on her waterlogged streets. Several persons claim to have seen cloaked, skeletal-like figures marching through an unnatural fog. Ill tidings indeed. Tracking down Yargos is now a priority - lest some yellow-toothed thug cut him down, or one of these strange wraiths carry him beyond the pale. Find him, fellow Pathfinders, and find the codebook. Your exploits will be recorded in the Chronicles if you succeed."

The memory fades as a fresh deluge of cold seawater rounds a bend in the lane and assaults your knees. After searching for Yargos at his favorite eatery, the Soggy Piper, you learned you just missed him. According to the Piper’s staff, a gang of dangerous young tattooed toughs arrived ahead of you. They grabbed Yargos and several of his friends from their dinner table and dragged them to a nearby cliff at the edge of the Puddle District. The watch was called, but they will arrive too late, as they often do in the Puddles, when they bother to venture there at all.

It is early evening, the first Wealday of the month of Desnus, an old man is about to face some awful fate at the sea cliff known as Torsen’s Maw, and you are no closer to finding the codebook Adril sent you for.

And we are off! Make your introductions and let me know how you intend to find Torsen’s Maw!

Hi everyone, GM Tealk here!

Our current gang of adventurer's is in need of a fresh member to join the ranks! The party is adventuring through the dreaded Thornkeep, and will be looking to complete the adventure by the end of the year!

We are more than half way into our venture, having completed floors 1-3! For anyone who wants to experience the full thing, this is probably not for you.

We have lost a member of the delving team, our reliable trickster rogue! No, he didn't die, but the horrors of the dungeon and the threat from Nhur Athemon growing ever more relevant - were too much.

The Members
Seward - Ranger
Pietro - Cleric
Telos - Sorcerer
Roran - Paladin

we will be starting by doing a speed run through From Tome of Righteous Repose to get our members up another level. We are planning on starting this within the next few days, properly on the 16th of September. If you want to also join in for this, please feel free to hop in whenever. This will be for levels 3 - 5!

Where the adventure official resumes when we finish FTORR:
Floor 5 - The Dark Menagerie - This is technically the correct floor to go to after floor 3, since this will be for levels 5 - 7!

If you are interested, please post with your core character, and we will see you in game!

You find yourselves summoned to Downlow for a mission briefing by Zigvigix, head of the Exo-Guardian faction. Downlow is the one of the safer neighborhoods in the Spike; it is an active thriving warren of factories, drydocks, and workshops. That activity is reflected at the appointed address, a warehouse undergoing renovation.

Among the flurry of workers, the party can easily pick each other out. Weapons, armor, gear, or general bearing all distinguish you from the laborers. With varying degrees of enthusiasm, you move deeper into the structure, following a wild churning coil of sound. It originates from an augmented host shirren who watches a bustling crew move office equipment from several large pallets into a large warehouse, while other workers weld scrap metal to gaps in the warehouse’s walls. The shirren occasionally directs a crew member and makes a note on a datapad. The shirren, Zigvigix wears a set of shoulder speakers that blast out sugarpop music from the band Strawberry Machine Cake. They bounce in place along to the music until they notice their new guests and turns to telepathically project a greeting.

“Welcome back friends, and congratulations on your success on Akaton! Isn’t this song the best? I’ve been playing it on loop for hours!” Behind the excited shirren, several grizzled-looking station workers, each carrying a side of a heavy-looking holotable, roll their eyes.

The shirren doesn't waste time, but moves right into their briefing. “Thanks for coming—I hope you’ll understand if I keep this brief; we’ve got a lot of work to do to get our new headquarters up and running, and you are on a short timetable. A ysoki salvage barge named the Clutter Collector, captained by a ysoki named Winks, picked up a distress-beacon transmission in the Drift. Winks didn’t have time to check it out, but she sold the data to the Society when she reached Absalom Station. How nice of her!"

“Well, it turns out that this beacon came from the Struggle’s Scholar, a kasathan ship that…” Zigvigix pauses for effect as their antennae wiggle excitedly. “…escaped from Sangoro’s Bulwark! If you don’t know, the Bulwark was the old base of operations for the Exo-Guardians. Now, First Seeker Luwazi wisely grounded us from investigating the Bulwark after all contact was lost with it shortly after the Scoured Stars incident, but we can’t pass up this opportunity to learn what happened there. We might even be able to find the coordinates to our missing headquarters. Wouldn’t it be joyous to have a large fortress to play loud music in?!”

Zigvigix hands over a datapad. “Here are the coordinates of the distress signal. It is unlikely any of the crew survived, or they’d be here by now. So be on the lookout for bodies. Since the crew is mostly kasathas, it would mean a lot to their extended families if you could bring back their remains or keepsakes to the Idari! Otherwise, salvage any data you can—especially the ship’s log—as it could tell us what happened to Sangoro’s Bulwark. This datapad also holds a one-time-us decrypter that will let you decode the Exo-Guardians ciphers used on the distress signal. Good luck!”

I will wait for everyone to catch up in here before continuing.

Hey everyone!

Thank you so much for expressing interest in playing 1-02 - Fugutive on Red Planet! I look forward to starting this scenario off soon.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask away. I am here to help! We will be going at your own pace through this scenario. It is rather short, so I will focus more on the roleplay, even in the combats.

Feel free to make your comments and introductions in the gameplay thread!

Please find maps link in the header. If you can please add your token, and initiative, perception details that would be great. Don't worry if it's too much, I will add them once we start properly!

The Concordance

This is an interest check, and recruitment thread for a run of SFS Scenario 1-02 - Fugutive on Red Planet. I would like to begin as soon as we have six players or April 15, 2019.

I will be running maps on google slides, and have basic expectations of my players. This is one of the earliest scenarios, so it is rather straight forward. I ask for a posting rate of 1-2 times per day during the business week and at least once over the weekend, though I realize (and expect) that real life can get in the way of fun at times and that not all players will be able to meet that pace.

I will bot players who do not post anything within a 24 hour period (or over a weekend) and will request each player have botting instructions in place before the end of the first briefing.

Please note, this is a Starfinder Society game!

Module - Cradle of Night | Society - Glories of the Past | Campaign - Return of the Runelords

Welcome back Fergus, Flik, Borgol and Alustria!

We pick off where we you left off. Off-color rectangles on the moldering walls show that there were once many frames hanging on the walls of this room. A selection of pens and brushes, as well as a silver-capped ink jar, lie on the floor amid the remains of a desk. It seems like nothing here has been disturbed for decades. Yet, the see-through form of an old man floats before you. His clothing torn in places, and hair a wicked knot on his head, there is a fight in his eyes. A concerned look upon his face as he look over you all. As he speaks, his body moves about unexplainably - fragments of the past leaking through this restless soul. The fragmented speech sound broken and disjoined.

Scene Music ♫

“The cove. The stone house in the wood. The gauntlet. Save them. My map. The key. You will need help.”

And with that, he raises his hands in acknowledgement of what is to follow. And as if willing them to come forward, you all witness as the room is split in two. Tears in the fabric of reality - the room seems the same, yet somehow different. It cracks like glass, and the force behind this occurrence sends you backwards. A few terrifying moments later, the cracks in space spill forth a blinding light...and just like that, it's gone. The room is just as it was seconds ago, but the timeless ghost floats above two young women who have crashed into the old sagging floor. Well, a young woman and a child...

Welcoming on board, Maddie and Remy.

As the two come to consciousness after a few moments, the ghost moves effortlessly to help the child up to her feet, somehow being able to interact with her corporeal form. He snaps back to his original position in the middle of the room, his voice now and echo in time. "I am afraid I was too late. There was no other way. My map. They took my map. It holds the key. To the vault. Baraket will control them. It will control you! I should have taken the gauntlets, but I fled. I was a coward. You must be brave. You must endure where I did not. The vault. It lies still in the vault. You must save my Cove. Save. Their. World.”

Giving you one final solemn nod to the group, he slowly disappears into the aether. The air grows still, and the noiseless Roderic's Wreck remains perpetually earie. You once again hear the soft sobbing of the small undead child from the other room. Looking back, you now see him standing at the doorway, looking in your direction.

As the warm sensation of feeling slowly returns to your bodies, you are left in awe at what has just transpired here.

The voice of the ghost speaks to you once more, his breath vibrating off the moulding wood of the building. One, final, time.
"A stone house in the woods. Trust each other. The Hero's of the Cove are reunited once more."

DC 10 knowledge Local or History! ...in case you don't know who the ghost is.
DC 15 knowledge Local or History! ...to try to connect the dots.
DC 25 knowledge History or Arcana! …"Baraket"?
DC 32 knowledge Planes or Arcana! ...try it anyway.
Anything else you might find interesting, ask away!

And off we go! I know this might be a little confusing, but go with your gut - you are probably right. You still have all of Roderic's Wreck to investigate, but because you somehow decided to go to the final room in the house first, this is where we get to begin!

Remy and Maddie:
You guys don't remember what happened, or how you got here. Your memories are in a mess right now. The only thing you recognise is each other and this place. You are familiar with one another, but you are not sure how. You also recognise Roderic's Wreck, although you both remember this as being much more worn down. This place is more, rather, less destroyed for some reason. You know exactly where you are, Varisia, Roderic's Cove, all of these things are familiar to you. Where you grew up, your past, these memories remain. Everything that makes up who you are, you know. But somehow, things are different.

Fergus, Flik, Borgol and Alustria:
You have no idea what just happened. None of you were ready for today, especially not this - but you realise now that you are tangled up in something, much greater than you. All you insecurities about yourselves (your character backgrounds) weight even heavier on you now at this moment. Why here, why now? Who are these people? What does this all mean. If you weren't convinced before, you are now - something seriously wrong is happening here.

Please do not roleplay aggressively or try to really question Remy and Maddie. They know as much as you do about what is happening - absolutely nothing. I hope. For now, they are more in need of your help as much as you need theirs. Obviously, question them, but don't shun them for not coming up with real answers.

If you have any serious questions, ask away. But let's get going! Lot's of exciting things are to come!

Please, try to give everyone a good description of who you are and what you look like. We are treating this as a first meeting for some of you.

Hey everyone, GM Tealk here.

I have recently started taking care of some abandoned Return of the Runelords players after the game dissolved in book 1. Out of the five players, only four have shown interest in continuing. Hence, the new problem is to find a player who wants to fill in the last spot.

Where they left of...
We will be picking up where the group left of. They have started investigating the strange occurrences of Roderic's Wreck, so we are basically at the end of Book 1: Part 1. I will be re-writing some of the important hook points when we begin playing, but you would have missed basically nothing by joining up now.

The Party
Paladin
Cleric/Crusader
Druid
Bard

The party is in need of a full progression arcane spell caster.

Final Note.
I am more intersted in picking up players who haven't gotten very far in Return of the Runelords. However, in understanding that this might not be many of you, i will open the player creation to anyone. You can find our discussion thread here! I am looking to get going rather quickly at the start of March.

Character Creation Rules:

20 point character buy. All scores 10 or greater after racial adjustments.
Sources, Races, Classes allowed: Anything
One Campaign Trait for Return of the Runelords.
One other trait, no drawbacks.
Alignment. LG, NG preferred. CG, LN, TN, CN acceptable. NO Evil.
Modified Background Skills: Two extra skill points per level from the following list:
Appraise, Craft (any), Knowledge (engineering, geography, history, nobility), Linguistics, Perform (any), Profession (any).

Hey there everyone. Thank you for considering me for the opportunity to take over your Rise of the Runelords campaign, adopting it from DM Papa.DRB! After much thought, I am making this thread to have a discussion with you for to see where you would like for this campaign to go.

I have been thinking of running something pbp for a while. Something long term, fun, engaging and for a group of players who are really interested and invested in the world we will be building.

A little about me. I am an Australian player, so my posting times are always a little off compared to the rest of the world. If you are in the US or Canada, I will be posting while you are asleep, and vice verca. I have played through Shattered Star, Reign of Winter and currently at the finale chapter of Iron Gods. I have also prepared all of Legacy of Fire and Stranger Aeons. Although PbP is a new medium for me, I am currently running an ongoing core campaign for Thornkeep which I have found to be very successful. For an example of my gm-ing style online you can follow this link. I am a four-star gm, and i play and help co-ordinate multiple events locally. I love the lore of Golarion, and intent on playing first-edition for a long time.

Return of the Runelords

I have made it a case to go over your campaign thus far. It seems you are at Roderic's Wreck, and in the middle of exploring it. I do not intend on starting over, even though there is not much room to cover, i won't put you guys through that again.

I have a few concerns about the game thus far that i'd like to address:

- I am still yet extremely unsure as to where your characters come from. If your character is not a local, why did you come to Roderic's Cove? I see that DM. Papa has set the game up as if you are up and coming adventurers. That won't be good enough for me, haha. Sure, you can be adventurer's - but what is your motive behind picking up a weapon and risking your life for strangers you don't know? With that being said, I would really like more information about your characters. If you could please introduce yourselves again, that would be great.

- Return of the Runelords is a heavy arcane magic adventure, and with the majority of you being divine spell casters, i am slightly worried. How i would like to fix this, is by giving each one of you your own distinct school of magic you are tied to. A subplot, perhaps, or i guess an inate reason why your characters are tied to these Runelords. How does that sound? If anyone would like to bring a new character, feel free to make any changes you wish.

- I currently cannot see where you guys are on the map, as the previous GM has deleted the maps. I'll need some guidance to see where you guys were at in the mansion before continuing. I would like to keep progress in two files, google slides for maps, and google sheets for character sheets and loot.

Another thing to note. Since this is campaign mode, i most likely will be changing encounters around, and adding my own thrown in between the main story, depending where you guys decide to go. This is an extremely sandboxy type of adventure, with many hooks to take you anywhere you wanna go. Let me know if you have any concerns with this.

Let me know what you guys think. I will start preparing things, but will not begin untill all the players have turned in. I look forward to meeting all of you.
