Jason Bulmahn: Our level system does not go high enough for Gritty

Knowing where you are is not the only reason to hug the coast on a ship. Even modern ships in the Mediterranean tend to hug the coast, and they have satellite GPS. This is especially true for trade ships, who will want to fill their itinerary with as many ports as possible to get/unload trade goods, minimize hold room for fresh supplies, maintain crew morale, and establish contacts with businesses in as many ports as possible to keep the hold as full as possible between ports. There's also some coin to be made transporting people from port to port.

What is up with the price on Dark Archive? It is more expensive than Book of the Dead, even though the page count is the same. Can someone explain?

I have no insider knowledge here but I assume it's inflation. Inner Sea World Guide was 49.99 back in 2011. There's been a 31.7% cumulative rate of inflation since then, so the fact that in 2022 they are finally raising their prices ~10% means they are still making less money per book. Since the PDFs cost the same, this is probably about the price of shipping and manufacturing which has gotten significantly more expensive for a cadre of complex reasons that are beyond the scope of the Paizo forums.

I could just buy the book off the shelf at Amazon or the local game shop in Germany without paying any shipping and get a free pdf. Only reason for the sub so far were the pdfs but the value kinda drops close to zero for international customers. I do want the physical book for reading and I love the production value of those special editions. But ordering in the US is getting really expensive. Also putting a higher price tag (+5 or 10 USD) on a special edition with a pdf code would be a nice solution to the problem.

I kind of wish I could mark my subscription to get a code to buy my book from a friendly local game store (or even Amazon) just so I could get my subscription PDF instantly rather than wait for the physical book to ship from Paizo.

How large is this adventure? Is it multiple level spanning? My group was going to do a lvl 4 short homebrew after the APG drops, but I'm sure level 5 will be fine if this is the right size.

According to discussions on the product page: "It has 3 chapters, each with 1 level of play. So you'll end at 8th level."

If you have to play a Tengu, GM 7 games at Gencon. Even without conventions, I had enough for a Hobgoblin just GMing at my local store.

I do kind of wish I could give away my AcP to encoruage new players who will only play if they get to play their favorite race and don't want to GM. But I will admit the player I met who was unwilling to play PFS because races were locked behind boons. They wanted to play a Sylph. Even after sylph became legal, they refused to play because wyroot wasn't legal. This is just an anecdote, though.

I was always a little hesitant about giving away my kobold boons to a certain friend who was obsessed with the little yapyaps when I had a few "ideas" for characters myself...and now I'll get to explore them in 2e without any reservations!

We're working hard on the APG AR review, but it's phenomenally crunchy.

I don't know if an official plan for a sanctioning date has been made. APG release is almost certainly intended to be ]on GenCon. So even if it's sanctioned on launch, that means you're trying to digest 270 pages of crunch and rebuilding your character while at the same time you're rushing from slot to slot.

If I were you, I wouldn't try to do that, I don't think it would be really enjoyable. You could play a level 1 APG character where the rebuilding stakes aren't so high. Meanwhile, for your higher level characters, you can take your time to make plans for a proper rebuild over the course of August.

I agree that players who want to use APG stuff at Gencon are better off making new level 1 characters.

But many players will get the book earlier due to pre-order subscriptions.

And we had Starfinder players making their own mechanics the same Gencon Starfinder came out. Making a level 1 character for a whole new system is way more challenging than making a level 4-5 character using new rules.

And lots of players want level 1 Lost Omens World Guide/Character Guide options that were unavailable until we got the AcP system online. Some players just want to see what's on the AcP (and don't follow the blog that carefully) and are waiting until the full lauch of the AcP before making any final decisions.

This ACP system and rebuild boon is great as I want to use it to fix/update a couple of my characters with this. But, I am completely confused by the gold stuff mentioned for this rebuild and I don't understand how it applies to me, at all.

Also, I went into the page and purchased the rebuild boon, and saw that there was something to download, but my computer did not recognize what file type it is. What is this and what do I need to open this file? If you haven't figured it out already. I am a completely analogue and in-person player with no online play experience or know-how.

Right click the file. Rename. Rename it anything as long as it ends in .pdf

One of our upcoming iconics, Korakai, is a tengu. Will tengus be listed as a common race in the APG? Otherwise, it will be a bit weird having a pregen whose race is not available for new players making characters. I hope so! I love Korakai! James Case did such a good job writing him up!

I mean...the Fox Form feat wasn't legal in 1st edition but our Iconic Witch was clearly a fox form kitsune and I refuse to believe otherwise.

I miss Quinn's light-cage-on-a-stick.

First edition Kitsune have a feat that gives them an extra spell like ability and an extra tail. The familiar's extra tails could be a manifestation of extra abilities Feiya has been granted.

Daji clearly has more power than Feiya can handle until she levels up. It's not just a meme when I say that Daji is the real character. (Ok, it kind of is.)

The nine-tailed familiar fits her. She's of Tian-Min ethnicity and there is no direct and inseparable connection between nine-tailed kitsune and daikitsu in pathfinder canon. Heck, Hei-Feng has a nine-tailed fox herald.

Here here. This is how the nine-tailed foxes were done in L5R. I think it cost 1 spirit point? Literally 1/9th of a feat? Wouldn't even cost that in a system like PF2 and a high fantasy setting like Lost Omens.

Can we get a PF2e Daji piece as an avatar for the forums?

Every year I've seen an upward trend in encouraging creative non-violent conflict resolution and cultural inclusivity. Both the company and its employees continue to go the extra distance to make sure its customers come first, and this is no exception. Given Paizo's tradition of inclusivity it can be easy to take these steps for granted. But I want to use this post to express my gratitude that Paizo is developing additional pages of free content to provide us with a better product.

This has alleviated my personal concerns about this AP and I will continue my subscription to the Adventure Path line.

Players do not need to own the books to access the items and boons on sanctioned adventure Chronicle sheets, and can use Archives of Nethys as their rule source for those options.

Update Alex and I were able to put our heads together, and we should have the AoA sanctioning updated to reflect that you can apply your XP in smaller blocks to ensure you get the appropriate treasure bundles and downtime. It looks like this was just a result of the template being out of date.

That's awesome! It makes sense that not everyone in an Adventure Path group would own the AP books, especially with the temptation to read the back-matter and stumble on potential spoilers!

Point of clarification: Since the AP's are strictly campaign mode this edition, do we have to play the entirety of the campaign to earn any of the sheets, or can you play piecemeal?

Players who play through each volume of this Adventure Path, as well as GMs who run the adventure, gain the Chronicle Sheet (included with this document) for each completed volume

It looks like you get to assign each Chronicle Sheet after you complete each volume.

Janira's sentiments ring very true. There were so many hard decisions.

Oh right, RSP was for possibly earning those seasonal boons. But everyone got a chance at that, right? It wasn't that GMs got MORE chances.

Everyone who participated (GM & Player) had a percentile chance to earn one of that year's six boons. GMs also earned annual race boons by running games.

I'm glad ConCurrent is still going, but I'm not hopeful as I couldn't find any available games during PaizoCon.

If you hop into the discord and check out the looking for game channel 5-10 minutes before the next "slot" you can find games. Most games at Paizocon only had 5 people signed up per table, so there was room.

Of course that won't help if there's nothing in tier or nothing you haven't already played before...

This has been asked on multiple discord servers, but I'd love some clarification myself! I still don't see guidelines on the rebuild boon. Do we have to select our character options upon receiving the boon? Or can get the boon and not play the character until APG is sanctioned?
