What is up with the price on Dark Archive? It is more expensive than Book of the Dead, even though the page count is the same. Can someone explain?

Yep. Books have become more expensive to produce, and analysis suggested we've been undercharging for our products. This price change is reflective of that.

I have no insider knowledge here but I assume it's inflation. Inner Sea World Guide was 49.99 back in 2011. There's been a 31.7% cumulative rate of inflation since then, so the fact that in 2022 they are finally raising their prices ~10% means they are still making less money per book. Since the PDFs cost the same, this is probably about the price of shipping and manufacturing which has gotten significantly more expensive for a cadre of complex reasons that are beyond the scope of the Paizo forums.

EDIT: Oh, I wrote that before I saw Erik Mona's post. Ninja'd!

Money is exchanged for goods and services, the cost of both which has gone up approximately 12% in the past 24 months according to the consumer price index.

Well I for one think that Paizo should focus on cheaper, lower quality products, and that the content creators should never be paid more for their work in order to sustain a fixed price.

Oh wait. Strike that. Reverse.

While I wouldn't say I like the idea of paying more, you all need to charge what you're worth.

I love Dark Archive so far!

Thanks for the reply,Erik. Anyway you can give us an idea what prices are going to look like down the road. Case in point, what can we expect to pay for a book the size of Mwangi Expanse or Absalom?

Loving Dark Archive, by the way.

We announce new products roughly 10 months in advance of when they come out, with new ones rolling out every month. The best solution is to watch product solicitations as they come out, and take a look at the prices. We're not raising prices on everything, but I wouldn't be surprised to see huge books like that come with a higher asking price next time around.

Impossible Lands is listed at $59.99 at a comparable size to both Absalom and Mwangi.
