The return of the Occultist.
I like the versatile caster with neat Focus powers and a wide spell pool that can help the party or carry it as need be.
The Thaumaturge (disclosure never played one) is melee focus and doesn't have the versatility of the Occultist. Or the cool name. Making a Witcher doesn't appeal to me.
I'm looking at the Animist but it's not clicking with me just yet. Nice array of swappable abilities but nothing seems strong enough to be decisive when needed.
So bring back the proper Occultist, please and thank you.

Unicore wrote: splash damage is not a term defined in the game. Core rulebook pgs 544 & 637:
Quote: splash (trait) When you use a thrown weapon with the splash trait, you don’t add your Strength modifier to the damage roll. If an attack with a splash weapon fails, succeeds, or critically succeeds, all creatures within 5 feet of the target (including the target) take the listed splash damage. On a failure (but not a critical failure),
the target of the attack still takes the splash damage. Add splash damage together with the initial damage against the target before applying the target’s weaknesses or resistances. You don’t multiply splash damage on a critical hit.
For example, if you threw a lesser acid flask and hit
your target, that creature would take 1d6 persistent acid
damage and 1 acid splash damage. All other creatures
within 5 feet of it would take 1 acid splash damage. On
a critical hit, the target would take 2d6 persistent acid
damage, but the splash damage would still be 1. If you
missed, the target would take 1 splash damage. If you
critically failed, no one would take any damage.
It's not spelled out how it would affect spells, but a reasonable connection can be made from provided information.

So the event list for Gen Con is up and there are four listings for the special. They all have levels 1-2 in the title but one of them has levels 7-8 in the description. Are the others meant to be for different levels?

Not crazy about the name. Paizo changed phylactery because of it's ties to real life religion, then use Nephilim.
Planar Scion sounds better and covers more of the possible parental choices. Outsider? Plane touched?

I'm wondering if the OP is referring to the items you get at character creation as mentioned here.
These items are one time gifts and you don't get them again between adventures.

Richard Lowe wrote: But that was the result of 10 years of content, much of that open access to ancestries was the result of things that occurred in the Society scenarios, the Lantern Lodge storyline for example. We already are seeing reduced costs for races due to how scenarios turn out (leshies for example), is that not following the same path? Comparing what access was available after 10 years of opening things through story to where PF2 is now seems unfair to say the least. How many of the people playing now played through those ten years? If you did 10 years to get the ancestries open and the get locked up again, is that fair?

The main proponents of reduced cost in this thread keep talking about 'hours until unlock' but I think that's a misleading way to measure the commitment. This isn't a mobile game where we're tracking retention by hours played. We play sessions and stories. I like to take those hours and think about it in terms of levels / characters which is a better gauge of a player's experience in the hobbby.
So you concede getting ACP takes time? Then why is it not a valid way to measure commitment? Why does a player need to be committed to Pathfinder to play a Ixuri in the first place?
I've been playing RPGs on and off for close to forty years and Patherfinder for ten years. How's my experience in the hobby? Can I be trusted to know what I want to play character wise?

Are you really equating not having the newest toy right away to bullying, harassment, or discrimination? That's a lot of context removal to jump to a unsupported conclusion.
CrimsonKnight wrote: Paizo is trying to make a welcome and accepting environment. I know some potential players who have been barred by ACP. The latest one was because of the barrier of entry to play (she wanted to play a poppet) and the group not wanting to do non sactioned games and miss out on potential ACP. APs are a long commitment.
No part of character identity (ancestry, background, class) should be locked behind ACP especially because you can only get it through play with a character thus needing it.
They could try GMing. First time GMing is daunting, even more so if you never played.
As a GM and a player we need to do better than this. We need to stop pushing good people away.

I'd like to see something along the lines of Favorite Enemy.
I played an Inquisitor once and I made him worship Pharasma so I decided he would hate and seek out Necromancers and anyone who created undead. I'd like you to be able to pick out a target enemy and get bonuses to attacks, save and/or knowledge checks vs that enemy.
It could be clerics of an opposing deity or creatures associated with the opposing deity. Something that gives flavor with a practical side as well.

Some posted a large write up on the Facebook page:
Types of magic talked about
1. cathartic magic is the barbarian version of magic. tied to a specific emotion that you tapped into that gives extra power with an emotional fallout afterwards.
2. elementalism has three ways: class archtype, gives character options to thrive in specific elemental enviroments. Monk and druid options also for this type. Druid gets an order for each element.
3. flexible preparation can be used with any full caster that prepares spells. Druids, Witches, Clerics.
4. geomancy: you can use your ablities in different terrains using terrain attumnement which changes the powers based on the terrain you are in.
5. ley lines: rituals and more world building. More GM focused.
6. pervasive magic: magic is everywhere, gives options for magic terrain have magic effects. Everyone in the world has a little magic.
7. Shadow magic: shadow caster archtype, has a shadow resivoir feat, extra spell slots based on shadows, and shadow companions.
8. soulseeds: a seed that attaches to your soul. Like a relic growing inside you. dragon gift and soul gift
9. soul forge armaments: special sentai suit magic. soul forger archtype allows you to choose what weapon you get or a bound piece of gear.
10. thassilonian rune magic: divided into 7 sins or regions. RUNE LORD archtype!!!
11. true names: let you know true names and use it against people. True name is a rare magic type. Uses research system
12. Wellspring magic: Think Wild magic
there is a 10th level spell called Call Kaiju
Tons of backgrounds, one of the rare backgrounds is:
Song of the deep. You were lost at sea but saved by merfolk or similar, and they shared their knowledge on breathing underwater with you.
Some of the new form spells: Ooze form, daemon form, demon form, devil form, angel form, cosmic form, fey form.
Eidolon types and their traditions:
Beast, fey, plant (primal)
Psychopomp, demon, angel (divine)
Construct, dragon (arcane)

The interactive specials for Pathfinder and Starfinder Society will premiere at Gen Con, September 16-19. These interactive specials are linked specials; the events of the Pathfinder special will affect the Starfinder event, so we encourage convention organizers to schedule both. Thurston and Jenny gave our authors a great concept to work with, and we’re excited for them to tell you more!
April 2021 Convention Update:
While we wait for details from Gen Con on the full plan for this event, the organizing committee are busy making plans behind the scenes and the organized play developers are full steam ahead on shenanigans. Gen Con and Gen Con Online will see the premiere of our new interactive specials for the year, PFS2 3-99 and SFS 3-99, a set of interconnected specials where the actions taken in one affect the outcome of the other. More details on these specials will be released soon!
More as I find it.

Jared Thaler - Personal Opinion wrote: I should note that the people with 4 stars next to their name have no more (implicit) access to AcP than the people with 0 stars, as stars *only* represent time spent GMing PF1. Likewise VOs gain no more AcP than non VOs. But it does indicate more time spent playing (indicating more time to play) and a large player base making this possible.
When this came up previously, the usual response was 'just GM a few conventions' and my reply was there is only one convention near me that doesn't require overnight stays and associated cost. If you're in a sweet spot in life where you can do multiple cons, great for you. Just don't assume everyone else is in a similar spot and you're the rule and not the exception.

I think this idea is lost on most of the campaign leaders, both at Paizo and volunteers. With the frequency and volume of games available online, the only way you cannot find games is if you chose not to. Yes, some people prefer live gaming, etc. but those are choices we make. There is a big difference between not having access and having access, but choosing not to participate.
You and Paizo are assuming desire to play is the only problem. Time to play, having a group and getting them together, sudden plan changes, the list goes on. "I can play when I want so everyone else can" isn't very true to life.
TwilightKnight wrote: The new player has the exact same access as the rest of us. They have to play/GM until they earn their points. It being a restrictive system from launch doesn't mean it's a good system now. The question is if it will turn away new players if they can't play the characters Paizo plasters on the book covers and websites. I think the answer is yes.

Indianapolis will retain mask mandate despite governor ending its version, mayor says
article wrote: Hogsett said it was too early for Marion County, the most populous county in the state, to abolish its mask mandate, citing the many out-of-state visitors coming over the next two weeks for March Madness basketball and the city's overall density.
Hogsett said that he was not concerned about the prospect of losing businesses to counties with more permissive COVID-19 strategies. This strategy takes a long-term approach, he said.
