This is a place for pit fighters to relax and enjoy one another's company before and after the brutal murder goes down. Here pit fighters may unwind, have actual conversations, attempt risky gene-splicing 'enhancements' to steeds, and much more.

The Pits offer library facilities, laboratories, sparring areas, kitchens, gardens, empty rooms, hot springs, massage parlors, and virtually any other place one might want to spend one's time whilst not preoccupied with killing and/or dying.

One of the most popular areas during downtime is the Equipment Testing Facility, where combatants may make use of the near-infinite resources possessed by The Pits in order to mess around with some of the most powerful items available on Golarion. Ever wanted to find out what it feels like to fire a +4 Thundering Flaming Menacing Glorious Double Hackbut? Now you can! In the E.T.F., characters may mess around (or even fight one another) using whatever resources they wish. It should be noted that the E.T.F. does not have access to Artifacts.

Any harm (or benefit) that comes to a character (or to their gear) during downtime will remain until his or her next fight, at which point all changes to the status quo will be undone.

The only true restriction on pit fighters during downtime is that they are not permitted to leave the facility for any reason.

Go nuts, but keep it in character.

This is the Pathfinder Pits thread for questions, concerns, and comments not related to recruitment. It is also the place that fights will be announced, out-of-character challenges can be made, and good-spirited trash may be talked.

The Pathfinder Pits are now recruiting! Simply read through the rules (under Campaign Information) and create a pit fighter to get started. For the time being, everyone who submits a legal character will be able to play. The first round of fights will be starting tomorrow, April 10th, so anyone who wants to be in on those should get their pit fighter together quickly. Don't worry if you can't make the first round, new fights should go up fairly frequently. If and when you have a character, please post once in this thread using your character's alias (even if you've already submitted a character to Pit Administration). Any questions related to recruitment or character creation may be asked here. Please make sure you've read the rules before asking.

m'Shimu and Garr'ak enter the new pit to complete silence. There are a few scribes sitting in the huge stands, watching carefully for any actions, but the air is still and the footsteps of the combatants echo off the ceiling in the immense room. m'Shimu stands in the north, Garr'ak enters from the south.

m'Shimu 1d2 ⇒ 2, Garr'ak 1d2 ⇒ 2

m'Shimu A11, Garr'ak L11. Initiatives and pre-fight, please.

As the first two combatants to progress past the first tier of the pits, Rolg and Aurum are showered with praise in the form of being stuck right back in the arena to try to kill people again.

The two enter a swankiful new arena, Rolg from the north and Aurum from the south. There is a distressing lack of audience considering that this is the highest powered fight thus far, but the pit fighters are strong individuals who don't need the cheering of adoring fans to validate them, so they struggle on.

Rolg 1d2 ⇒ 2, Aurum 1d2 ⇒ 2

Rolg A11, Aurumm L11. Initiatives, posturing, descriptions, etc., please.

The dwarf and his camel walk in from the north of the arena, the elf and his horse from the south. The two are incredibly contrasting, as are their mounts. One pair is tall and graceful, the other more squat and powerful looking, but either team looks prepared to give any quarter.

Bruno 1d2 ⇒ 2, Vatale 1d2 ⇒ 1

Bruno A10, Esmeralda AB1112 Vatale L10, Gyllir KL1112. Initiatives and descriptions please.

A new arena, a new combatant, a new day, a new bloodbath. Eko comes in from the north, Shigeharu from the south.

Eko 1d2 ⇒ 1, Shigeharu 1d2 ⇒ 2

Eko A11, Shigeharu L11. Initiatives and descriptions, please.

In the second of the newly constructed pits, Elmer and Kirk head out onto the sand (which now is now more of a hard-packed dirt/sand mix, apparently now reddish by design as opposed to permanently stained with the blood of previous 'contestants'). There's nobody in the stands apart from the a few scribes documenting the events of the match.

Elmer 1d2 ⇒ 1, Kirk 1d2 ⇒ 2

Elmer starts in A11, Kirk in L10. Initiatives and descriptions, please.

The two new combatants enter a brand new arena. They take their places at the newly widened entrances. It seems the crowd hasn't found out about the change in location, as the stands surrounding the pit are completely empty.

Grizzlegut 1d2 ⇒ 1, Malar 1d2 ⇒ 1

Grizzlegut starts at A11, Malar at L10. Initiatives and full descriptions, please.

Though the arena at large doesn't seem to have many audience-members today, those that are around appear to have gravitated towards this fight, between two combatants with good records in the pit. Aurum enters from the north, Kailin and Sunahl from the south.

Aurum A10, Kailin L10, Sunahl L11 Initiatives and such, please.

Arak enters to an almost empty arena, audience-wise, but there are three creatures waiting for him on far other side of the sands. He takes his place just outside of his gate.

Arak A10, Yarün L10, Keyen L09, Veyen L11. Initiative/pre-game time.

Bruno and Esmeralda, probably fairly bummed after their chance at reaching the second tier of combat was cruelly snatched away by Kirk the Meanie, enter to see a new face across the sand. They take their spots to the north as the strange snake-guy stares at them from the south.

Bruno A10, Esmeralda AB1112, m'Shimu L10. Initiatives and other nonsense now.

Kailin also has himself a new face to attack with a snake, and one who rhymes with him! Most of the crowd is off elsewhere, but Kailin has enough of a following to ensure a few spectators, and still more are always curious to see the first fight of the next potential great gladiator.

Kailin A10, Sunahl A11, Galen L10. Initiatives and pre-game, please.

I believe this is a straight up battle for third level, it would seem the RNG gods have seen fit to make things interesting even in a sea of newcomers!

Bruno rides out astride Esmarelda to a roaring crowd. Onlookers appear to have come from all over the arena, saving the time to watch this fight unfold. Some have their smelly, threadbare shirts off, slinging them around above their heads with much hullabaloo, others simply yell and roar through nasty, often broken teeth, but the sentiment is support and encouragement. Bruno also sees Rolg, sitting in a special box above the smallfolk, in his suit of gleaming armor.

Kirk, although more of a newcomer than the dwarf, has his share of fans in the crowd as well. Among skinnier peasants especially, and some of the more skilled laborers whose muscles don't rip as much through their shirts as their peers, there is much applause at the Elf who has consistently toppled his martial foes.

Bruno is in A10, Esmarelda in AB1112, Kirk in L10. Initiatives and such.[/ooc]

Continuing in the trend of new guys, Aurum and Arak are both fresh into the pit, but are already drawing some cheers from the crowd for simply looking like they expect pit-fighters to look. They take their muscled places in their designated spaces.

Aurum A10, Arak L10, initiatives and flexing, please.

The newcomers are just swarming in today, and Syken comes face-to-face with what he imagines to be the most imposing of them. They take their places under the watchful eyes of 11 peasants, most of them just sorta staring at Shova.

Syken A10, Shova L10, initiatives etc.

Ritti, a loss under her tiny belt, comes face to face (or mask?) with one of the newest combatants. The spectators are mostly off at one of the other four fights, probably Bruno vs. Kirk, but everyone is going to know what happens here regardless. A few of the fans who took an instant liking to Ritti have come to cheer her on, hoping the first match was a fluke and she'll take the arena by storm. Nobody knows what to think of Eko yet.

Ritti A10, Eko L10, initiatives and pre-game needed.

There's a new combatant standing across from Kailin and Sunahl as they enter the arena, and not a particularly imposing one. The crowd seems to have taken a near-instant liking to her, however, and there's some sort of glint in her eyes.

Kailin A10, Sunahl A11, Ritti L10.

Macho and Kirk are in an arena they've never seen before, with slightly nicer stands and more people. The arena floor looks more cleanly-swept, and the peasants in the seats even look better washed. The two have no time to wonder at their surroundings, however, as they prepare for battle.

Macho A10, Kirk L10.

Syken, ego somewhat bruised from his previous bout, enters the arena to see an even newer face across from him. The turnout isn't amazing, but the energy is high as the two take their place.

Syken A10, Aurum L10.

The space cowboy and half-orc enter a fairly empty arena. It seems that with all the fights going on, most people have gone off to watch one of the dwarves or something. They do, however, appear to have been blessed with the good ol' horn blower, who lets them know to get to their places with a lively *HRRRRRRNK*.

Kirk A10, Syken L10, from the most recent companion rules I posted, a familiar starts in the square to one's left but I suppose we could rule that tiny animals may begin in their master's square. I need initiatives, descriptions, etc.

As Kailin and Rolg enter the arena, the audience is struck by the remarkable contrast between the two. They are here for the same reason, however, and they take their places across from one another.

Kailin is at A10, Rolg at L10, companions to their respective lefts.

The pit fighters today are both short and have ugly pets. They take their places to a smattering of applause, their respective beasts looking disrespectful. Inen to the north, Bruno to the south, pets to the left. And straight on 'til morning.

I'd like very clear descriptions, I want to make sure people could essentially read through your post and know the name of each visible item you're wearing. If something is actually hidden (such as circlet beneath a big hat), that's fine, but no-one should feel mislead at any point in regards to your gear. This description can be in an alias, so you don't need to post it every time, but in that case it needs to be up-to-date. Time for initiatives and posturing.

Kirk, fresh from his first battle and victory, takes his place across the arena from a new face. The halfling and elf see a fairly large turnout; it seems that the arena is becoming more popular among the smallfolk.

Kirk A10, Inen L10. Need initiative and description.

The crowd claps politely for the two entrants, though neither has had much luck so far in the fighting. There does appear to be an actual audience, though, so this may be a good time for reputation redemption. Kailin and Sunahl enter from the north, Macho from the south.

Need initiatives and posturing, Kailin A10, Sunahl A11, Macho L10.

The newcomers enter their battlefield under the watchful eyes of approximately four peasants, who were too drunk to make it to the dwarf fight. While the crowd isn't currently the most encouraging, victory remains a fun and profitable goal for our gladiators, who steel themselves for combat.

Kailin A10, Sunahl A11, Kirk L10. Need initiatives and description.

The arena hasn't seen action in several days, and everyone is excited to see two fan-favorites returning for another bout. Rolg takes his place in the north, Bruno to the south. They know what to do.

Rolg A10, Bruno L10, Esmarelda KL1112.

The crowd erupts into wild applause as they wait for the start of the largest fight thus far.

The champions take their places, Macho and Blarnaz in the north, Jack, Rorsk, and Kitty to the south.

Macho: A09, Blarnaz A11, Jack L09, Kitty L10, Rorsk L11.

The two newcomers make their way into the arena, Blarnaz from the north, Aros from the south. Most of the usual spectators are watching Bruno, Kyrian, Rolg, or Charan, but word has spread that this is a higher class of combatants than usually seen this time of year, and the turnout is decent. The crowd actually quiets down as the two take their places, curious to see how they begin the fight.

Blarnaz A10, Aros L10. Time for initiatives and description type stuff.

Bruno and Charan know each other somewhat, but that has little to do with murdering one another for sport. Charan comes in from the north, and Bruno from the south. The crowd, already having seen each of the two in action, waits for the trash-talking.

Charan A10, Bruno L10. Initiative and the other stuff.

Rolg, having recently recovered from his embarrassing alcohol poisoning, enters the arena from the north to find a new foe awaiting him. The dwarf may have lost some crowd cred due to being outdrank by a monkey, but he's still got a fan base, and they hope he can land some hits this time. Nobody knows quite what to think about the strange and withery looking fellow standing across from Rolg, but they're all expecting some violence.

Rolg is in A10, Rix in L10. Initiative and posturing time.

The new guy steps out onto the arena floor from the north entrance, as Kyrian enters from the south. The fans that 'Demon' has acquired in his few rounds of combat are here to cheer him on, hoping to watch him tie Bruno's 3-1 record after his saddening defeat in the last battle. There is much good cheer among the fans in general today, and the encouragement seems largely positive on both sidse.

"OY, NEW GUY, WHERE'S YER SWORD?"

Initiatives and pre-combat silliness, if you please.

The arena, in the interest of providing a higher caliber of entertainment for the unwashed masses, has given our gladiators some special training, and they emerge onto the sand with fiercer expressions and more rippling abs. The crowd appears to have grown as well, and they loudly voice their desire for bloody sport. Rolg enters from the north, Charan from the south.

Initiatives and pre-combat showboating, please.

The crowd is larger than any either of the combatants have seen so far. It would seem that everyone has been waiting for this battle, and there are vocal supporters of each side, screaming commands and encouragement at 'DWARF' and 'DEMON', respectively. There's the sense that some people have actual money riding on the outcome. The arena is also apparently paying enough attention to toss in a real blower of horns, who sounds a short blast, signaling to those on the sand that the fight is about to begin.

Time for Initiatives and crowd-pleasing, Bruno starts at A10, Kyrian at L10.

The crowd claps politely as the newcomer and Amarkys take their positions. Though many have seen the human before, nobody is overly impressed with him so far. That said, some have taken a liking to him after his fight with Kyrian, since they felt he was being more manly about the whole thing, and still others feel he was at a disadvantage against the team of Esmarelda and Bruno. He's considered a likable underdog at the moment, though he's up against an entirely new participant, so nobody knows exactly what to expect.

Initiatives and pre-battle hijinks, if you please. Charan is at A10, Amarkys at L10.

I'd like to take a moment to clarifiy how I've been thinking about the beginning of these fights: The combatants have a moment to stand in the arena and bow/wave to the crowd, taunt their opponent, shout war cries etc., but they may not use any actual abilities (such as a barbarian's rage, or cavalier's challenge) until the fight actually begins. The initiatives should be rolled in the same post as your character's pre-combat actions, and will then be immediately used to decide turn order and continue on with the fight. There should be no using of any actual abilities until your first post in turn order, during the surprise round.

Amarkys enters the arena from the north, and Bruno from the south, Esmerelda following after him. Apparently the horn blower has returned from wherever he was, and he waits for the combatants to ready themselves for battle, his oddly fat lips wobbling by the horn's mouthpiece. The crowd is a bit larger than the last Bruno saw, and smaller than the one who cheered on Amarkys's demise. They wait expectantly for blood.

Initiatives, please. I think each of you have enough description, but it never hurts to be dramatic with your appearance :D

The two brand-new entrants step out onto the sand, a halfling and a human. The few people puttering around in the stands come over and lean against the railing to see the newcomers, though none of them seem invested in the outcome of this battle. There's apparently not much betting on fights between such nobodys.

Initiatives and full descriptions, please.

The ugly camel (and her potentially uglier rider) trots in from the north door, and the posh little gnome from the south. The crowd seems unimpressed with the two losers, but they are at least curious what they have up their sleeves, since nobody has actually seen them do more than cast some failed magicks, or spit.

Initiatives, please.

This is the place for in-character conversation to take place, representing the arena fighters' mess hall, rooms, hallways, etc. When the full arena is up, out-of-character questions/answers will occur here (in spoiler tags), as to not bloat the recruitment page. There are wards in place against the combatants interfering with one another during their down time, so this is really just for building friendships and rivalries, gaining information about your opponents, and being a jerk to one another. Most downtime is assumed to be spent training and thinking up ways to be more effective in combat, but feel free to show off more of your character's personality here also, their hobbies etc.

The next round is about to begin, and things have begun to heat up. With his flawless performance in the previous bout, and his menacing appearance, Kyrian has attracted the attentions of a few fans, (though not everyone is impressed with someone defeating a mere gnome) who appear more interested in the outcome of this fight. They look anxious to see how the tiefling will fare against this newcomer, and as Amarkys and Kyrian take their places to the north and south, respectively, a clear shout of "Stab him good, demon!" rings out from the stands.

Initiatives, please.

Meanwhile, somewhere completely different...

A camel steps out into the arena from the north, and a lucerne hammer from the south. Each of them has a dwarf attached at one place or another, and both appear eager for blood.

Without much of an audience, the combatants stand across from one another, awaiting the poorly blown horn that will sound the beginning of their bout.

Initiatives, please.
