I'm going to be at GenCon, but I'm not signed up for any specific ACG events--I instead plan to just drop in with generics whenever I can play for a bit. That worked fine last year. Is that something I'll be able to do again this year (assuming I don't come by when the ballroom is wholly overrun with the RPG players, like in the evening interactives)?

We're at our halfway point overnight stop.
I'm burnt out on Paizo's goblin mascots, but it doesn't look like my regular ACG group is planning on using them for whatever we do after we finish Season of the Shackles so I'm not too worried about it. (As it is I both made sure the group was OK with me putting Blizzard into Amaryllis' deck and is OK with me casting it when it's our best option. I'm glad we have a good group that works well together.)
The tournament should be interesting. I'm not expecting to advance, but it's neat that we get to build decks this year rather than getting prefabs.

So for the Interactive Special event - what do we need to bring if we are playing in the ACG side of it? Do we need a preconfigured deck?
From what I understand, you will need to have a PFSACG-legal character of tier 1-6. A 7th-tier character (one who has completed an entire guild adventure path) isn't eligible to play.

We'll try to fit in generics when possible.

Yup, you absolutely can. There are even tickets available for the Cosmic Captive ACG event, so you should be able to hop into that as well.

Just noticed this on Twitter. An Obsidian promo card called Goblin Golem of Obsidian. Looks like it is not only a physical card, but can be redeemed somehow in the app too.

Thanks Hawkmoon for the heads up. I hope this is made available to subscribers

Since I was sad that you, Eliandra and cartmanbeck weren't able to come, I'll provide a bit of detail (I still have to write up a proper report)
Interactive was interesting. Even the card game version requires a GM and there's a reason for this. It was very hard to complete within the time limits. There wasn't as much interaction as I'd have liked, but chaos seems to abound. I may ask my Venture Captain to run the event so I can run the ACG portion with it.
ACG Organizer boon was great (RPG GM boon for Tier 1 was also great, but that's not here nor there). Not as mindblowingly amazing as last year's Arueshalae boon, but still great nonetheless.
They also rotated some of the boons from PaizoCon and I got one of the later ones (the Lust one)
I imagine Obsidian will go to other cons to distribute the promo card (Myfly's ears perk up), like PAX West and BGG.Con.

Hoping to have a team for the Open next year (congrats to this year's winners!), but this year the special was a blast. It was cool to have the two games working towards the same goal, but I'll echo Zeroth's point about hoping for a little more interaction. It was disappointing at times to hear about various bonuses going active for doing so well, without noticing a change on the ACG side. That's the only non-positive comment I could possibly come up with though. The story, the gameplay, the choices, it was all amazing and anyone who designed it deserves two big thumbs up.
I was able to get a couple games of Season of Goblins in as well, and they were really well done making it feel like a true Goblin-y game. Although I only played with the Goblin Fight deck this weekend, with exception to the special, it of course isn't mandatory. Definitely looking forward to more ACG, special included, at GenCon again next year. Who knows, maybe a PaizoCon 2017 is in my future as well being waaaay closer and cheaper...

:-D Thank you, everyone! I have to give a shout out to Iceman while I'm here. And my fianceé and Rob, who, when asked if he visited the forums often, said "the what?".
I had so much fun. Seriously. It was awesome, thank you so much for putting it together! I'm even more bummed that I missed out on it last year!
I'm working on my write-up, but I've got a bunch of work stuff to do first! We even had a Chadturn in the first scenario, but I forgot to announce it (was too concentrated on what was going on).
[edit] I wanted to tell everyone that running into armies without mythic paths is just as terrifying as it sounds. Even when your characters are tier 7 and there are plenty of blessings to go around. Still terrifying. Also I'm not sure how much I'm allowed to say about the Open, so I'll try to be vague and mysterious. ;)

Rob Watkins doesn't really get onto anyone's forums much, no. I was chatting with him about the Open afterwards and he praised you quite a bit, Rebel Song :)
Looking forward to seeing your writeup. Vague and mysterious sounds good. After all, your characters were pretty drunk when they did the adventure! (Warning: The drinking game from one of the rounds where you take a swig when you move or fail to acquire a boon is not recommended for those whose livers are not adamantine hardened)

Back from Gen Con!
I played the RPG side of the Special; we're going to be running it with both sides at SkålCon next month, so I'll get to try the ACG side then.
In the Open our team advanced to the second round but didn't make the finals. Overall it was a bit less strategic than I'd hoped; you had no real idea what was coming and not much time, so you just picked some powers and cards that worked together (with themselves and the group) and hoped for the best. My first round character build was pretty useful, but my second round character almost never used his character powers. As it turned out, my first round character would have been ideal for the second round, but you had no way to know that going into either one.
I was also more helpful in the first round's out-of-game items than the second, which I'd chalk up to tiredness (Thursday vs. Saturday) and being the single with a group of three. It'd be nice to have a full group, but I don't think our local ACG group would be able to manage being in a three-part tournament together due to a combination of varying schedules and wanting to play things other than Pathfinder.
Still, I've enjoyed it both years and will likely try it again next year. :)

I think that things were kept a bit more hush hush than Chad or I had intended. Totally understandable, but hopefully we can make sure the public version of it spells out slightly more what you might expect going forward. Not _entirely_, but at a minimum the name of the three tests and a little teaser flavor for each.

Thanks for the shout out, and right back at ya. We had a great team and just the right amount of luck. It was an absolute blast. :)
And, for those wondering, we came up with our team name at the end of the first scenario, in which Rob and I produced an unwholesome number of 1's. I think he only did it the first turn. I did it on the first turn also, and then once or twice more - thankfully I was the character with multiple heavy armors.
I do partly agree with Parody about the strategy aspect, and not knowing anything about the scenario when picking characters, powers, and cards. Though I cannot say I was surprised by the lack of foreknowledge. Years and years ago, I was involved in the D&D Open and other Team events, which did similar things -- it's just another way of upping the challenge.
That's actually one spot where we got lucky. The character I held onto for Sunday turned out to be the perfect choice for us to gain an otherwise-impossible, third-turn location-close (that ended up revealing the villain, which Really helped).
I have to say I liked not only the scenarios, but the trivia and match-game side bits. Nice touches, if you ask me.
I'd love to say more, but apparently we're all being vague. ;)

Hah! Had not though about the consequence of that check as being drinking-related, but it makes perfect sense.
Rob was a very welcome last-minute addition to the team. In particular, he was one step ahead of me in making the mental/paradigm shift required by the first and third scenarios' special rules (focusing on villains as location-closers instead of cornering them, spreading certain challenges among the party).
I look forward to next year!

The trivia bit was quite fun. I wish I'd gotten to hear more of the questions.
Our first question was pretty much a "gimme" for us as I'd just finished running the RPG Wrath AP that very week.
I wanted to use villains as closers, but that would have required ever rolling average while fighting them, as opposed to rolling things like 9 total on five d10s...
We literally had one player hand wipe 5 times over the course of one scenario, and then bury her discard. Her entire deck was 7 cards at the end.
I think some of my friends had gotten too used to the app reminding them to use abilities; especially forgotten was the recharge to draw scenario power which would have relieved some hand stalling. My summoner was card cycling like a charm so I never used it myself. It was fun using movement shenanigans to never start or end a turn at the Torture Pit.
We didn't advance to round 2 but the first round was a lot of fun.

I personally didn't learn anything that I hadn't already known before. I got to see the demo versions of Zadim, Estra, Damiel, and Alahazra. I saw the cards with the Trigger trait set to catch unwary scouts. I saw blessings carefully worded to make them somewhat more dangerous to use... And I saw a curse.
Definitely looking forward to the set. And rethinking my Magic Spyglass...

My daughter and I had never played any of the Pathfinder card games but had an absolute blast at GenCon with Mummy's Mask. I found the Paizo team patient with some of the (very) noob questions we asked and they were all very professional.
Thanks for making GenCon 2016 an enjoyable experience for us.
