Explore the World of Battlezoo in Pathfinder Second Edition and Meet New Ancestries with Our New Kickstarter!

Tuesday, July 18th, 2023

Paizo has many partners who produce content under a variety of licenses, including media partners like Roll for Combat, who—in addition to streaming quality Pathfinder and Starfinder actual-play podcasts and running the RPG Superstar design talent competition—publish their own line of Pathfinder Second Edition rulebooks and adventures under the Battlezoo brand. Check out their newest Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign from Roll for Combat’s Director of Game Design, Mark Seifter!

Hi everyone, Mark Seifter here. I’m excited to announce a new Kickstarter from Roll For Combat, which is live at http://kickstarter.rollforcombat.com!

We’re working on a big setting book, World of Battlezoo: Indigo Isles. We expect it to clock in at over 280 pages with eight lengthy and expansive new ancestries, two extensive heritages for wildfire leshies and galtzagorri sprites (all of which can be imported into Pathbuilder 2e), new familiars, pirate archetype feats, and more. And, of course, the highlight of the book—extensive information about an island chain called the Indigo Isles.

World of Battlezoo: Indigo Isles. Presented by Roll For Combat

While the Indigo Isles are easy to fit into your favorite setting, including Golarion, with a few adjustments, it’s also a window into the world of Alacar, a setting we’re excited to build and explore along with you… and I do mean that part, literally. We want this to be a world where you can contribute ideas and see them reflected in the setting, and to that end, every tier will allow you to submit an idea for a small island, and we’ll choose the best of these, which I’ll give a full write-up in the book! So, this is your chance to pitch the island idea of your dreams and maybe see it in a published setting.

In addition to myself—and potentially you!—this book is packed with amazing ideas from industry veterans and Paizo staffers past and present, including Paizo Development Manager of Narrative Linda Zayas-Palmer, Paizo Starfinder Society Developer Jessica Catalan, Paizo Adventure Path Developer Vanessa Hoskins, former Paizo Development Manager of Adventure Paths Ron Lundeen, former Paizo Senior Developer of Adventure Paths Patrick Renie, Paizo freelancer and Pathfinder Dark Archive cover author Mikhail Rekun, Paizo freelancer and Queerfinder mastermind Grady Wang, Level Up co-creator Paul Hughes, as well as a few other surprise authors.

In World of Battlezoo: Indigo Isles, you’ll find new ancestries, dragons, and detailed town gazetteers for any setting or world!]

And if a book filled with dozens of story hooks and interesting NPCs that can be easily inserted into any campaign, new faith systems, nearly a dozen detailed town gazetteers, and maps of the islands and towns isn’t exciting enough for you… did I mention the dragons? We have over 20 pages dedicated to 15 new dragons, featuring the entire family of wild dragons from Battlezoo Ancestries: Dragons. These include the amber, cerulean, harlequin, indigo, and vermilion dragons as young, adult, and ancient foes that you can now pit against your players, or just use them as helpful NPCs as wild dragons love to party!

One of the great things about this Kickstarter is that we have been working hard on this book all year, and it’s nearly complete. Right after the Kickstarter ends, all the PDFs and Foundry VTT modules will be released, and the print book will follow shortly after! Of course, I’ll be working on those new islands and adding them to the book, but we’ve planned on having all new islands complete and ready to go during the time Kickstarter takes to finish up the various paperwork (around two weeks).

Thanks for getting us through two stretch goals already, and let me know if you have any questions!

The more I've read about Jewel of the Indigo Isles, the more interested I've become in running it. It's cool to see there's going to be more content that integrates with that and I already know one of my players is going to love some of those ancestries.

I hope you enjoy it! If people like Indigo Isles enough, we could do other World of Battlezoo books down the line too, and I think that would be amazing. We have so many ideas to share, and also a lot of great authors we want to bring in to help us generate even more great ideas!

That is a very handsomely priced PDF! Small shame about things like maps seeming to be limited to physically shipped orders, physical print media is useless to me, but still. Awesome book! I'm really looking forward to the homebrewed islands, and also the monsters, and also the ancestries, and also the magic items, and also...

I'd like to back this, but won't while I am still waiting for fulfillment of the previous Kickstarter project.

While I did back it I have to admit this was my first thought. Why would I back another Battlezoo Kickstarter when I still haven't received any of the physical contents of the first two? What changed my mind is the fact that delivery of this one appears to be within months. However, I do think it's worth considering the public perception of starting a new project, asking for more money, and not having fully delivered either of the two previous projects.

I kind of had the same thought, but I did back it. I know the physical product exists, I've seen it even if I don't yet own it. And I've gotten the PDF files for everything I've backed now except Eldamon as that's still a WIP. Also, Battlezoo/Roll For Combat has learned from their past two Kickstarters and pared this one back to a single product instead of a handful and it's much closer to being ready for launch, so I'm trusting them again.

Just wanted to come back a few months later here and add that I just received everything from the first Kickstarter today.

I just got my Jewel of the Indigo Isles AP, Dragon ancestry book, Battlezoo Bestiary, cloth map, dice case/rolling mat, minis, and a million enamel pins today as well.

It is *fantastic*.

The AP weighs as much as a small child. I can't wait to read through the dragon ancestry lore section in person (I saved it until now!)

I am very sad I completely missed this kickstarter =(. Wife and I just had our second baby so had kind of been busy and not paying attention to online all that much.

I backed the first Kickstarter love Mark's work (though still waiting the books here in Australia but I am sure they will be here soon).

You may want to keep your eye out for their next project, "Year of Legends," which sounds like it will be hitting Kickstarter soon.
