A group of diverse characters gathererd around a table playing games

Ancestry Guide Chapter Opener, artist Victor Manuel Leza Moreno

With PaizoCon coming up, the OP team is hard at work to get everything ready! We’ve got seven different scenarios premiering, including our new PACS Interactive, so we wanted to take this week’s blog to just kick back, relax, and do something we haven’t done in a while.

It’s been a year of online conventions for us, and while we love that we can still game from home, we’ve missed hanging out with all our players and swapping stories. So, let’s chat! What’s a great moment from the last year of Organized Play gaming? What plot twists shocked you, what jokes broke up the table for 10 minutes, what do you wish you could’ve told us about over a drink?

Here are a few of my favorite gameplay moments from the last year:

  • This exchange from the Twitch chat during the first run of SFS 3-00: The Last Bite cracks me up to this day:
  • Screenshot of a gameplay conversation
  • My oracle made friends with mysterious spirits in a library because they left the spirits some very nice journals to write in.
  • One of my players managed to tame a dinosaur during SFS 3-10: Live Adventure Extreme! thanks to a natural 20 and a very permissive GM.

What were some of your favorite gaming moments of the past year? Post them below or tweet them to us at @PaizoOrgPlay, we’d love to hear about them! Don’t forget to use spoiler tags if you’re sharing details about a scenario.

We can’t wait to see you all at PaizoCon Online. Check back next week for our announcement on updates to Starfinder Society for Year of the Data Scourge!

Until then—Explore! Report! Cooperate! And roll initiative!

Of the last year, my favorite moment was also from SFS 3-10. It involved a glass serpent, a fully charged solarian, and another PC allowing PVP.
Boom

Looking forward to the new Guide, new adventures, and more PC's doing crazy things that entertain me and the table.

Played a Repeatable at high tier. Everyone's done it before, except for the Level 1 archer, who's new to Society. They sit safely at range for the final fight. Boss drops the 5 experienced agents to Dying, then closes in on the newbie. Archer crit-finishes the Boss and exclaims something to the effect of, "Well, that wasn't so bad for my first mission!"

The timing on this one is what gets me.

My male Ysoki mystic was heading into one of Datches Death traps. He used his doppleganger skin to turn into Datch in the hopes that some of her traps would see "her" and deactivate. (Doppleganger skin gives you a +10 bonus to do exactly that)

Well.. part of the first trap didn't care. A human in the group grumbles "Datch that *($#&$#($& I'll rip his lungs out"

The ysoki operative sticks his head out of the control panel they're re wiring long enough to correct him " Her. Datch is female. I know, hard for humans to tell with ysoki."

Human "you sure?"

Coincidentally. The ysoki mystic that's disguised as Datch has run into a problem where they need to take off their armor. Fortunately they have an active life bubble, fur, and no nudity taboo. They look down and call over

My favorite time this past year was almost getting to TPK a party made entirely of operatives (they ultimately survived - with some creative solutions). I keep trying to warn them about the need for a good mix of skills and class abilities. Diversity matters.

Cosmic crit was doing a charity convention for Doctors without borders that raised over 5,000 dollars through donations, reroll, and natural 20's.

My Biohacker has just found some really big needles full of vaccine* that can reverse a disease making some NPCs go crazy and trying to eat the party. I get a ping in discord saying someone's donated a nat 20 they weren't able to use to my table.

"Well.. if that's not the most thematic use of a nat 20 I've ever seen... " KATHWUNK Vaccine delivered to the derriere via the biohacker express. No lines no waiting.

*it's science fantasy, shhhh.

I remember Datch-chuks! My friend played a vanguard dragonkin flavored as a martial artist, and I played her ysoki sensei, Master Zufu.

Good times.

Favorite recent moment was in Lodge of the Living God, where I allowed the party of 4 small characters to domesticate one of the combat encounters using the basebuilding rules within the scenario to gain steeds with climb speeds.

Favorite moment as a player was when my Gourd Leshy Cleric led a liberation charge to free a wagon of watermelons from an end times prophet that was smashing them for effect in a town square.

Sometimes you just bring the right PC to really make a moment sing.

Awesome! Our party did the same thing but sadly our small characters weren't interested in riding. We had to train the beasties to be draft animals.

Favorite recent moment would be in writing (and later running) 2-01 Citadel of Corruption, when PCs come face-to-face with a pair of masked Decemvirate members, and the jaw-drop that happens later in the scenario.

Favorite gaming moment was also at PaizoCon, during Bonekeep. My dhampir archer went into those terrible halls with a group of lower-level PCs. Predictably, a retreat was called very early, although no one seemed to want to be the one to first abandon their comrades. Gerard Dessedeux fell early, and a gnome druid (whose name I've forgotten) had her goat familiar drag me out, unconscious and bleeding out. I managed to stabilize due only to my Numerological Gift, which was fortuitous, since no one else made it out. Just me and the goat.

Gerard was to be my first all-martial PC, but that day he dipped into Beast-Bonded witch so he could take the goat, Tertius, as a familiar. So now he's an arcane archer. Not at all according to plan, but you just can't let a story like that not shape the character.

Favorite PFS gaming moment was admittedly from well over a year ago.

A lich end boss started reciting his monologue. I don't remember what all he was saying, but it was going on way too long.
Playing a Divine Hunter paladin of Sarenrae, I exchanged a look with an archer inquisitor of Pharasma, and I swear we achieved telepathy in that moment.

I've had enough of his crap.

I have too.

Want to send him to the Boneyard?

Sounds good to me!

"I am smiting and attacking with rapid shot."

"I am declaring bane and doing the same thing."

"But my speech isn't ..."

"It's been more than a round of talking, right?"

I do consider it rude to interrupt GM's speeches ;D

I mean think of it, players roleplay all the time in dungeon crawls between encounters while GM has to run mooks, let them have their joy of overly long boss monologues xD
