When the fog is creeping,
And the moon is low;
When the town is sleeping,
Gauntlight starts to glow!

That’s when she arises
For her midnight lunch.
Naughty kids are prizes
For her teeth to crunch.

But if you obey me,
And obey the rules;
You’re safe from Belcorra;
She just eats the fools!

So warns a popular nursery rhyme among the parents in the town of Otari, as they often sing the melodious but unsettling poem to their children at night to encourage good behavior. As a result, everyone who grows up in Otari has a healthy mix of fear, respect, and curiosity for the old ruins out in Fogfen and the strange lighthouse that stands at the swamp’s heart.

As they grow older, townsfolk learn what’s more often accepted as truth: that the heroic founders of Otari had slain the wicked sorcerer Belcorra many years ago. For a time, thrill-seekers explored the ruins around the lighthouse called Gauntlight, but today, common knowledge holds that the place has become a haven for pests—no longer a source of active danger or significant treasure after being completely picked over. Nearly 500 years have passed since Belcorra’s defeat after all, and in that time, she has only posed a menace to Otari through sinister rhymes.

Or so the citizens of Otari believe.

Enter the Megadungeon!

Spiteful evil stirs beneath the mysterious lighthouse called Gauntlight. When the lighthouse emits an eerie glow, locals suspect that something sinister threatens the countryside. Brave heroes must explore the ruins around the lighthouse and delve into the dungeon levels beneath it. The Abomination Vaults Adventure Path is a complete campaign taking heroes from 1st to 11th level.

While I am glad to see these adventures converted to 5e - it helps spread the great work of the Paizo staff; I wish they would do the same for supporters of their original game (PF 1e) for those of us who prefer it and supported them for 10 years.
Even a PDF only version would be appreciated.

D&D 5E is a living game and has a huge player base, making this a financially viable product.

Pathfinder First Edition is not and does not, and so conversions are not financially viable.

So is the 2e DND playerbase.

While I no longer GM for DND 5E since a few years back, I think this is such a fantastic thing of Paizo to do! This adventure is amazing and deserves recognition!

It is also perfect for Game masters that don't want to switch systems or have players who don't want to switch. Fantastic work!

The links here are confusing:

The product page says preorders expected March 2023, and it says that "subscribers" get a free PDF when the physical copy ships.

The large link above goes to the "pretty" AV page, which also says preorders start March 29, 2023.

As far as any 1e content is concerned, I do not believe Paizo is going to release any more 1e content unless it's through a kickstarter project or something. Last thing they made was the kingmaker kickstarter bestiary.

Preorders are open now. The product will ship in the late Q1 or early Q2 of 2023.

Paizo has created several ways for the first edition player base to access both new and old content. They can find:

Rulebooks for sale at their local game store or the Paizo Store.

Some adventure and supplemental content available in Print-On-Demand at PathfinderInfinite.

PathfinderInfinite exists for content within our intellectual property. There are already Pathfinder Infinite publishers creating products that convert first edition adventures to second edition. The reverse is possible, but I haven’t seen it yet, unless I missed it. They can publish conversion guides, but can't just reprint a product verbatim and change the stat blocks.

Additionally, the Pathfinder Compatibility License still exists for content without our intellectual property.

5E players will soon have both our Kingmaker and Abomination Vaults Adventure Paths to explore.

I keep forgetting about Pathfinder Infinite. Ya, that's probably a good source for additional 1e content.

Conversion hasn't been too hard for me. Traps, hazards, and skill challenges are pretty much 1:1. (Just may need to identify the appropriate skill.) As for monsters and NPCs, I found a wealth of replacements just by scavenging older products. As for magic items, if it's not a standard magic item, I just find an alternative item. Again, there are a wealth of items - be it in Pathfinder or even 3.5E.

Stupid question: if I preordered this when it first was announced, I don't need to do anything to get the PDF version?

...even though, ironically, we're probably going to switch to PF2e anyway...

Agreed - I just think it is so much easier to convert PF2 to 5e since they are very similar.

A few questions here.

What levels are each of the modules designed for in PF2E.

Do those same levels apply for the DnD5E version?

Do you only get the PDF version if you have some sort of AP subscription for Pathfinder?

In 2e, it runs from level 1 to level 10, with the players technically levelling up to 11 after the final boss.

The ad copy above on this very page gives the levels for the 5e version:

"The Abomination Vaults Adventure Path is a complete campaign taking heroes from 1st to 11th level."

...so now that paizo has cancelled and resolicited our pre-orders, are the pending pawn coupons no more?..
