As the Argus lurches with the impact, you all manage to keep your feet! Kephalos, remember that reaction rolls do not generate Fear or Hope, so no extra for me... ^_^
Fear Total: 7; spending 1 Fear to spotlight enemy.
A pair of pirates swing over and swing their curved blades at Vesper! Take down the sorcerer!
Cutlass: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10 Miss!
Vesper, do you want to change the target of your spell, or do you still want to target the pilot?
Fear Total: 6
PCs
Vesper Frostwing
Kephalos
Thillenethiel
Enemies
Kresios -2 hp; Close range
Pirate Raiders 1 (Horde) Very Close (Melee with Vesper)
Pirate Raiders 2 (Horde) Close Range
Pirate Bruiser Close range

Vesper Frostwing |

I would actually like to change my spell if there are two targets within melee range. I can see this might be the problem with PbP using Daggerheart is the interruptions available to the GM will often alter the chosen activities. "BTW I'm going to standardize on the first die rolled being the fear die. I'm sure that will change things up :-)
If a pair of pirate raiders swung at Vesper would two of them not be within melee range? If so he'll switch the attack to Wild Flame which would use the same attack roll, and (10 damage, but would affect up to three in melee range, do damage to all, and make them mark a stress.

Got it!
Vesper's attention turned to his assailants, he lets loose a gout of flame, burning both alive and they scream and tumble overboard!
Spotlight back to the PCs!
Fear Total: 6
PCs
Vesper Frostwing mark 1 stress
Kephalos
Thillenethiel
Enemies
Kresios -2 hp; Close range
Pirate Raiders 1 (Horde) dead;Very Close (Melee with Vesper)
Pirate Raiders 2 (Horde) Close Range
Pirate Bruiser Close range

Thillenethiel |

With enemies gathering around, Thillenethiel you l tried once more to right himself.
Might: 2d12 ⇒ (11, 11) = 22
Ooh! Crit! It says bonus, what is a bonus? Could I use a bonus to spend 3 hope to transform into a wolf with +1 more to str?

![]() |

You gain a Hope and clear a Stress! Also, the spotlight remains on the PCs, so someone else may go, or Thill can go again!

Thillenethiel |

In that case..
Thill (spending 3 hope) falls forward. As he does, his body and equipment change and morph into that of a large wolf (+1 str). With a growl, Tholf then leaps at the other pirate attacking Vesper.
attack: 2d12 + 3 ⇒ (3, 12) + 3 = 18
advantage on attack: 1d6 ⇒ 4
dmg: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Marking a stress to make enemy vulnerable

Vesper Frostwing |

Vesper closes to melee range with the Pirate Bruiser, and sends forth a wave of force hoping to equalize things a bit.
"You chose the wrong side. Now you get a chance to swim with the fishes".
Casting "Power Push".
2d12 + 2 ⇒ (12, 6) + 2 = 20 Duality dice (Success with Hope)
1d10 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 Magical Damage & push opponent to far range... hopefully off the boat.

Okay, backtracking to do by RAW, one last pirate is left next to Vesper.
The pirate screams as he is ravaged by the Elven druid!
Fear Total: 7
Spotlight Pirate Raiders 2!
Another gaggle of pirates swings aboard and stop when they see Kephalos, Well, well, well... If it ain't our favorite Faun!
They charge Kephalos surrounding him and stab at him with their curved blades! 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10 But the wily Faun scrambles this way and that, causing them a lot of wasted motion!
Spend one Fear to spotlight the Bruiser!
The burly Cretan bounces his club in his hands, as he vaults over the rail onto the Argus and closes on Thilleniel!
Bruiser @ Thill: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 6) = 11 Remember that for your Damage Thresholds, you add your level, which in this case, saves Thill from taking Severe damage. Would you like to spend an Armor slot to reduce this damage by 1 hp?
After adjudicating this, spotlight swings back, and I will work on Vesper's action!
Fear Total: 6

Vesper Frostwing

Thillenethiel Marked 1 Stress

Kresios -2 hp; Close range

Kephalos |

Another gaggle of pirates swings aboard and stop when they see Kephalos, Well, well, well... If it ain't our favorite Faun!
"I'll be your favorite knife in the gut if you come any closer." Kephalos states with a charm that belies the deadly situation.
The pirates did, in fact, come closer, but none managed to land a strike on the nimble rogue. At one point during the confusion of battle, Kephalos lashed out with his daggers in a series of slashes and stabs that leaves a number of the Cretans lying in pools of blood on the deck.
Attack vs. Pirate Raiders 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 2 = 6
Sneak attack: 1d6 ⇒ 4
I had said above that Kephalos takes a moment to hide before the pirates swung aboard, and Hidden upgrades to Cloaked due to a class ability. When attacking from Cloaked, he gets Sneak Attack damage, but he also gets it when the target is in melee with someone else, so I'm hoping he can use one of those reasons to get Sneak Attack without having to disrupt the narrative.

Haha, @Kephalos, the GM rolls a d20 (because I do not have a need for a Hope die). PCs roll 2d12s. ^_^
