Sobek Al Saleef wrote:Sobek will take the shield of faith scroll and will have Cayden or one of the other many Pathfinder Agents around cast it on him before battle. The beginning of the battle was a surprise. The closing of the rift was going well before Eshimka tore through. You may hand the scroll of to another PC and hope that it is cast on you, but if you do it before the battle in anticipation of something happening I will give you 1d4 rounds of effect as there is no way to time it. Would you still like it cast on you before the battle?
Oof. Ok, yes!

miteke |

OK, you get 1d4 ⇒ 2 rounds of shield of faith. Anyone else want to buff?
I'll make the the math more generic for anyone else. You will get time on spell minus 1d20 rounds. So If you cast a 3 minute spell you will get at least 10 rounds. Cast bless? Protection from evil potion or something? Pre-charge a CLW from a wand? Ready some holy water? Lots of options here.

In spite of the protection from evil, it takes a fairly large chunk out of Sobek's hide and seems to glow with unhealth after doing so.
The armored undead is less quick and only makes it half way to you in the few seconds it takes you all to react.

Khargrom moves quickly into flanking, though he does try to avoid provoking a free strike from the nasty foe.

miteke |

Well, that could have gone better.
AoO attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Though Khargrom misses, the creature is unable to capitalize on 'free' attack. In the end all it sums up to is a fancy move action. A dubious one too as it leaves him vulnerable to an attack from behind by the armored one. At least for now...

Moved from discussion...
You see a large set of armor, like it was made for an ogre, appear on the north side of the rift. When you look into the face, you find there is nothing there.
On the other side of the rift you see a hideously malformed, hairless, pustule-covered corpse that moves and snarls more like an undead hound than an undead man.
Special attacks for the festrog:
Charging Trip (Ex) A festrog that hits with its bite after making a charge attack on all fours can attempt to trip its opponent (+4 bonus). This trip does not provoke attacks of opportunity.
Diseased Pustules (Ex) When a festrog takes damage from a piercing or slashing weapon, some of its boils rupture, squirting the attacker with puslike fluids. The noxious secretions carry a potent contact disease that causes those infected to break out into painful necrotic boils.
Necrotic Boils: Disease—contact; save Fort DC 11; onset 1 day; frequency 1/day; effect 1d4 Con; cure 1 save.
Feed (Su) Every time a festrog makes a successful bite attack, it feeds on its opponent’s flesh and gains 5 temporary hit points. The festrog cannot have more than 5 temporary hit points gained by this ability at one time.

miteke |

Cayden also scores a hit on the well armored foe and thanks to her knowledge of undead is able to name your opponents.

Sobek moves a few feet back through the tangled underbrush, creating just enough space to bring his polearm to bear. With a swift, practiced motion, he swings the flat of the blade low, aiming to sweep the legs out from under the grotesque, pustule-covered abomination lurching toward him.

Festrog
Nothing is good, right?
Sobek does his best to trip the thing up, but it is hard to do with hands and feet planted on the ground. He feels like it might have worked if it was not so hound-like.
Botting Wilbur...
Wilbur joins in the Festrog bashing fun and swings his scimitar at it.
to hit scimitar, bless: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 1 = 17
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
The blow smashes into its face and dislodges the hunk of flesh it just took from Sobek. It look decidedly irritated by this (basically Wilbur eliminated the temp HPs but did not do enough damage to hurt it), and the blow splatters nasty puslike fluids all over Wilbur.
OK, now we get to some interesting stuff. Eshimka uses her fell power to hurl a BIG rock at you all (10' square impact zone) and starts preparing to do something again later. She is dividing her attention between various groups of pathfinders and yours is only one of many she is harassing. For some she is dispelling their buffs, in others she is hurling rocks and corpses, yet others she is sending waves of negative energy at (which seems the most devastating since it heals the undead and harms all the PCs). From the looks of things, it took her a while to prepare this last attack on you personally, and you could try to disrupt it before the next time it happens, which you are thinking will occur at the beginning of round 4. To disrupt it you will need to distract her with enough damage using a ranged attack (AC 14, 10 touch), or by taunting and insulting her with words (DC 20 Bluff). That will require a standard action.
boulder damage: 3d4 + 1 ⇒ (3, 2, 2) + 1 = 8 on 1d4 ⇒ 2 Wilbur.
Ouch, right?
Then the undead facing you attack. The Festrog, enraged by losing his lunch, attacks Wilbur, replacing Sobek's mouthful of flesh with Wilbur's

Cayden is able to make contact, but it bounces right off of the armor without so much as leaving a dent. Quite disappointing.

I think that is a flank. I drew a line between us and it crossed two opposite sides, but it was sorta on the corner. So if it isn’t a flank subtract 2 from the hit and 3 from the damage.

Her dark armor riddled with arrows and sliced by a dozen blades, Eshimka staggers back from the nearby Pathfinders attacking her. With one blade-arm she beckons for more of her shadowy minions to reunite with her body and heal her wounds, but other Pathfinders have slain too many for any to answer her call. For the first time, Eshimka seems worried, fighting for her survival rather than leading her army.
Table GMs, the Eshimka Defeated condition is now in effect, ending the ongoing hazard.

You do JUST ENOUGH damage to cause the unbeing to collapse, but as soon as it dies, the rift starts flickering in preparation for a new wave. You have a little time to prepare and could heal or reposition yourselves, or even retreat from the battle.
Eshimka has been defeated by the high level table, so there will be no more interference from that end.

A screeching wail cuts across the battlefield as Eshimka falls to her knees, her undead horde routed on all sides by the combined Pathfinder and Twinhorn forces. The nightshade cries out in anger and dismay, “No! How could mortal worms like these strike me down?”
As if answering the question, an enlarged Pathfinder in gleaming full plate strides forward, raising a heavy blade that glows with arcane power. Cast in the shadow of a nearby standing stone, the dwarven apparition of the paladin warrior Ivvora seems to mirror the Pathfinder’s movements and guide his steps. Ivvora’s voice rings out clearly over the din of battle, “Eshimka, this battle began a millennium ago, and it ends tonight. Vildeis has judged you and found you wanting.” The Pathfinder strikes once, cleaving through one of Eshimka’s bladed arms, and then brings his blade around in a slashing arc that sends the nightshade’s still-screaming head rolling across the battlefield. Eshimka’s mouth stays open for a moment, her scream dying away as light pours from the stump of her neck. The nightshade’s body crumbles into ash that the wind scatters across the snow, and the dying rift at last closes as the remains of Eshimka’s army flees into the night or falls with their mistress.
The towering dwarven ghost salutes the gathered heroes and announces, “You have all proven yourself worthy of Vildeis’ attention. Pathfinders, you have defeated a great evil, so let the tale of your bravery shatter your enemies’ courage while bolstering your own. Eric, you have made me proud and finished what I could not. Medda and Anok, you have done well assembling the force that did this. All of you, go with Vildeis’s blessing, and keep vigilant—evil never rests.” Ivvora smiles and looks up to the stars as she fades away and the blessed armor Medda wears returns to its normal sheen.
Medda looks to the champions surrounding her. “Everyone, I cannot put into words how grateful I am to all of you. You have stood by my side through all these hardships, and at last we have triumphed! Eshimka is forever destroyed, and we of the Twinhorn following have found true allies in the Pathfinder Society. Call on us in your hour of need, and we shall come to your aid. For now though, the danger has passed.” She and Anok give one last look to where the planar scar is already healing.
“Let us celebrate at last.”
That concludes the Outpost VIII PFS1E Special. My thanks to the Table GMs and players!

Khargrom watches the execution and then finally releases his held breath as the heavy warhammer thunks head first onto the ground. He leans against the shaft and turns to his allies, ”Honestly, that ain’t a bad way to go. Hacked down by your enemies in a full on battle for dominance. Hell, we could all be lucky going out like that. My end’ll probably be a stupid scythe trap or something tho…”
Thank you GM for running this and thank you fellow players for joining me!

Cayden nods soberly.
"The three of you made an uncomfortable and unpleasant mission bearable. Still, I am glad that it is over - I could do with some rest and relaxation!"
Sobek steps forward, his guisarme planted in the earth beside him, eyes sweeping over his battle-worn allies.
“It was an honor to stand beside you all,” he says, his voice steady and full of pride. "Our paths crossed in fire and shadow, and together, we’ve carved a trail through the darkness. I look forward to walking that road with you again, should fate bring us together once more.”
He offers a solemn nod, the faintest hint of a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.
“To the victors… and to the friends we’ve become.”
