Though it misses, Cayden still takes 2d6 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4 negative energy damage from the pulsing field. But, on the bright side, the Zuvembie is no longer making that fascinating sound and Cayden is free to act normally.

So does that mean we have to kill the enemies and then shut the energy down?
Wilbur steps back to Khargrom. "We need you in there," he says, reaching a hand out to his ally.

I know, right? The only good one was the one I rolled. Am I right that you have one channel left after I botted you?

That 19 is a Crit Threat Cayden, chop its head off!
The dwarf grunts his thanks, ”There we go, moah blood inside meh then out. Let’s do this!” He moves up closer and whips a dart at the last foe.
Can’t charge and can’t get there this round, so I’ll save a round of that negative energy crap by chucking a dart as I move up. No precise shot.

Wilbur heals Khargrom for less than expected, and Khargrom moves hesitantly back into the fray. His dart is way off, but Cayden looks like his swing is going to smack hard.

Khargrom looks on, impressed.
| miteke |
The slashing weapons (Cayden's) does not seem to do as much dmage as it should have, but plenty with the well placed shot (16 damage). then Sobek delivers a crushing blow that seems to defy the creatures resistance to slashing weapons (another 24 damage). the two mighty blows are enough to destroy the creatures and the PCs are free to retreat and leave the rest to the twinhorn druids.
Unfortunately, Cayden's time in the area blackened some of his skin and caused him to lose a fingernail. What can I say, negative energy is ugly stuff.

final stats:
You have two rounds before we launch into helping the ritual.

Directed by Medda, Twinhorn mystics have begun preparing the stone circle to close the rift——ideally forever. The planar tear seems to have a will of its own, though, and it actively fights back and even tries to rip itself wider. If the mystics are to succeed, they need help. At first the ritual participants are preparing the stone circle and beginning the rites.
You each may take on one of the following helpful tasks:
To help at this stage you must have two successes between the 4 of you.

Please clarify. You have 2 rounds of healing, how do you receive 3d8+3? You asking Wilbur to use his CLW wand on you for one round and Cayden to use his on you for one round or something? The 'his' CLW wand is ambiguous as it could mean Khargrom's wand or the cleric's wand.

I didn’t see the post about the two rounds of healing, my bad. It is Khargrom’s wand. He will only get 2d8+2 then for 11.

Depends on what I am doing with them. I can use two castings of Cure Light Wounds to get a success, but I also have a 50/50 chance of getting a success with one use of Cure Moderate Wounds.

So you are thinking of using CMW to do damage and hope the roll is high enough. Yes, that is a possibility. Remember, though, in the former option the two spells must be either a prepared spell or spell slot, not something from a wand.

That is enough to keep the monsters at bay (no more rolls needed since only 2 successes are needed in this phase, moving on to the next phase)!
As the ritual progresses, the rift contorts in response as if angry. The building negative energy releases violently, washing over the area and causing many of the ritual focuses to crumble. You have the same options as potential tasks, but during this event, each successful Prepare Reagents action grants two successes and you will need THREE successes to help in this phase!

An anguished draconic roar echoes across the landscape. Within minutes, reports begin circulating that some of the Society’s newest agents single-handedly defeated a powerful drake, ensuring that it will be no threat during the final assault. Competing rumors suggest these agents actually convinced the drake to fight by the Pathfinders’ side! Whatever the case, it is a great boon in the fights to come.

Cayden fuels the ritual with her spells, while Wilbur and Sobek fight off the advancing hoards. It is enough to keep the rift in check and even make some progress. But the wave of negative energy acts as a beacon for undead on both planes, and the standing stones quickly come under assault. The ritual goes on, but defending the site becomes the priority. In other words, you earn double successes for the defending the site task. You need FOUR successes on this one!

Smoke, pale flames, and incantations rise as one around the Kellids’ stone circle as a combined force of Twinhorn and Pathfinder mystics reach the climax of their ritual. As the magic takes hold, the rift into the Negative Energy Plane weakens and begins to shrink. A burst of positive energy ripples out from the site, washing over combatants for miles around.

The combined Pathfinder and Twinhorn forces have beaten back the worst of Eshimka’s vanguard, and their spellcasters are hard at work repairing the damage around the planar rift. It seems there is at last a lull when a pair of bladelike arms stab through the rift and tear it wider. The wound releases a wave of negative energy that crashes into the mystics’ wards, and the shock causes the trees for hundreds of feet around to wither, their limbs snapping off and turning to ash before hitting the ground. Through the widened rift steps a towering giant with sinister horns, shaking the ground with every step as her army follows her: vampires, towering suits of armor, hungry corpses, and even a powerful dragon! Medda’s shout carries over the din. “Eshimka is here! Strike now!”
The giant laughs thunderously as it regards the mortals around it and tears of pieces from her own flesh that turn into nightmarish beasts. “The living are no match for my might. Spread out, and reduce every one of these mortals to dust!”
Table GMs, please begin Encounter W: Eshimka’s Assault.

Sobek will take the shield of faith scroll and will have Cayden or one of the other many Pathfinder Agents around cast it on him before battle.
Sobek will also choose the Burning Radiance blessing again.
Sobek’s eyes go wide as the rift splits open wider, the air crackling with dark energy. He takes a half-step back, instinct honed from a hundred battles screaming danger as the towering giant emerges—horned, hulking, and surrounded by an army of nightmares.
His grip tightens on the haft of his guisarme, knuckles white as the wave of negative energy crashes over the battlefield. Around him, trees crumble to ash, and the very earth seems to recoil from the unholy presence.
“By the gods…” he breathes, awe and fury battling behind his eyes. “That… beast is death given form.”
But then he squares his shoulders, planting his feet and tapping the blade of his polearm on the ground twice in preparation. He glances left and right at the dozens of the Pathfinder Agents around him.
He furrows his brow and raises his weapon. “Let it come.”

The beginning of the battle was a surprise. The closing of the rift was going well before Eshimka tore through. You may hand the scroll of to another PC and hope that it is cast on you, but if you do it before the battle in anticipation of something happening I will give you 1d4 rounds of effect as there is no way to time it. Would you still like it cast on you before the battle?
After absorbing the recent pulse of negative energy, the vegetation is dead and crumbling; forested sections on the map do not impede movement or grant cover. Place your icons wherever you want on the stone circle map from 30' to 60' from a stone and I will place the enemies you are to face this time as they step through the rift.
