Vivekanandra checking in. Will update slides soon. This is the first time running this character and only the third 2E character. Feel free to look at the profile if you have time and let me know if you see any issues with character creation.
A history note: this is a Pathfinder 2E recreation of one of my first D&D 1E characters from my college days in the 1970s (GM was Jeff Grubb, now of WOTC). The name is inspired by a South Asian Indian poet, although the spelling is slightly different. This character got to 6th level, which for Jeff's games was pretty high, as TPKs were not unusual.

Would love to put some info on the slides but not seeing a link to them at the moment. Or have i failed my perception check
DM Carbide
It's at the top of the page. I'll try to link it in my header, too.

Definitely failed the perception check
I have just the one pf2 glyph so Herkemer can have an extra hero point to start
I would like to take boggard as Granniks bonus languge as that is the main humanoid threat to Hyrantam in the sodden lands where Grannik hails from. However not sure if that is actually available
Quick look says no He will take Mwangi and Grannik assumes that is actually the langauge of boggards
DM Carbide
Yeah, it's an Uncommon language and not a regional one. In a home game I'd give it to you, but not in PFS.
Grannik Eisfjdur

My personal take is the level 2 melee fighter should be the front line in an otherwise level 1 group
DM Carbide
Does anyone besides Grannik have any glyphs?
DM Carbide
Grannik, do you have a more detailed character sheet you could link to, or put more information in your profile? I don't see your stats.

Updated char on board with stat block and link to pathbuilder

I'm relatively new to PF2 PBP. Do we all get one hero point at the start? I see a Pathfinder emblem in the column under hero points for each of us.
If so, Vivekanandra will not use it for this roll, since she is not likely to succeed with her low athletics and acrobatics skills.
DM Carbide
Yes--you get one hero point at the start, and then any player gets an additional hero point to distribute to the rest of the party for each glyph they have.

How do you get a glyph then?

By GMing PFS2E games. It's like the First Edition star system--run 10 scenarios, get a glyph; run 20 more, get a second; 30 more, get a third; 40 more, get a fourth. Fifth glyph requires another 50 games, ten specials total over the 150 games run, and having an experienced GM/qualified qualifier vet your skills at running three times, with three different evaluators. A module like Fall of Plaguestone is worth 2 scenarios (I think), a quest like this one is worth 0.25 scenario, and I think the second series of quests is worth 0.5 scenario.

This is going to be painful if we have no healers to speak of. Chen does have a scroll of heal. Can someone use it?
Also, can we get creative and try to us rope somehow?

Misread the monster hunter feat I only get extra bonuses when I crit the recall knowledge other wise its just +1 to my ac and +2 to track and preception against my prey
Also I don't believe the primal focus spell gives me access to the primal spell list so its a no on the scroll of heal for me

I'm reviewing my character's spell book. I have a question about the difference between spellbook spells and curriculum spells.
The rules say I get five 1st rank spells in my initial spellbook. I also get three 1st rank curriculum spells.
I can prepare 2 1st rank spells each day from my spellbook. I also can prepare an extra 1st rank spell from my curriculum spells.
Are my curriculum spells also in my spellbook? In other words, could I prepare a curriculum spell in my set of spells from my spellbook. If I have Force Barrage in my Curriculum spells, can I prepare it once from the spellbook and once as a curriculum spell? Or would I need to make Force Barrage one of the five 1st rank spells in my spellbook, even though it is also a curriculum spell, so I could prepare it for either a spellbook spell slot or a curriculum spell spell slot?
DM Carbide
The spellbook rules state (emphasis mine):
The spellbook contains your choice of 10 arcane cantrips and five 1st-rank arcane spells. You choose these from the common spells on the arcane spell list (page 304) or from other arcane spells you gain access to. You also add two 1st-rank spells from the curriculum of your arcane school (except in the case of the school of unified magical theory, as described in that school).
The rules on curriculum spells also note:
You automatically add some of the spells listed in your school’s curriculum to your spellbook. At 1st level, you add a cantrip and two 1st-rank spells of your choice. As soon as you gain the ability to cast wizard spells of a new rank, choose one of the spells from your curriculum of that rank to add to your spellbook. A superscript “U” indicates an uncommon spell. Your GM might allow you to swap or add other spells to your curriculum if they strongly fit the theme.
Paizo has gotten better about making rules easier to find (try to collect all the rules relating to incorporeal creatures in 1e...it's a challenge), but they still miss things. For instance, those two sections are inconsistent (one says two first-rank spells, one says a cantrip and two first-rank spells).

So the Curriculum spells are in the spellbook in addiction to the 10 granted at character creation and can be used when preparing spell slots from the spell book.
So when it says, "At 1st level, you can prepare up to two 1st-level spells and five cantrips each morning from the spells in your spellbook (see below), plus one extra cantrip and spell of your chosen school of each level you can cast if you are a specialist wizard."
Sounds like three spell slots, but one has to be filled with a curriculum spell. Am I correct?
DM Carbide
That's my understanding.

We're very close to finishing. If you want me to put your downtime on your chronicle, roll your Earn Income check for 2 days here.
Also, would any of you be interested in playing another quest--Port Peril Pub Crawl, most likely--after we finish? There should be enough time to fit it in before Outpost starts and my available time craters.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Grannik will be keeping his downtime to worry about retraining (the perils of going a different direction at level 2 is you sometimes miss a glaringly obvious need of the build such as for quick draw if you are going to use hunt prey and close to melee)
I do not believe I have any other characters on odd amounts of xp so will decline the invitation to Port Peril

Thanks.

Looks like 2 SP, for a quest?
For future reference, is rolling a lore check (to determine earned income) limited to only your chosen Lore Specialty? For example, Vivekanandra has Lore (Almas) which is Lore related to a city in Andoran. That seems an odd skill for earning income, unless one goes to Almas and gives lectures on the city's history for a fee.
Or does the term Lore check encompass other options, such as Arcana, Occultism, or Religion?
DM Carbide
Thanks.

No, the 1 SP in the table is for 2 days of downtime--what you get for a quest.

It's only those skills labeled as Lore. Incidentally, in case it wasn't obvious Lore subsumes both some elements of the First Edition Knowledge skills and the First Edition Profession skills. Although the GM Core gives a nod to penalizing the use of unlikely Lore skills to Earn Income (and Almas Lore certainly qualifies, unless you're actually in or near Almas and can justify playing tour guide to wealthy visitors), we're not AFAIK supposed to do that in PFS.
For wizards, Crafting is almost always going to be your best bet for earning income. It's a rare wizard who 1) doesn't take Crafting, and 2) doesn't bump it to Expert at 5th level, after bumping Arcana to Expert at 3rd level.
Perform check to Earn Income for credited PC: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

Before I finalize the chronicles, do you want to roll Earn Income for Chén fú?
DM Carbide
Thanks for running the game! Like these short adventures between bigger events. If you run something else beside the Pub Crawl, Herkemer would come along.
Herkemer, did you delete your first PFS2e character? I was only able to report your participate when I used 2002 instead of 2001.
ETA: Would Quest #6: Archaeology in Aspenthar work for those of you who want to play another?

I thought I already rolled. Here it is
Circus Lore income: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
DM Carbide
RPGChronicles link for Quest #6 is HERE; I'll let the three of you who are interested get signed up before I post it to Cottonseed.
Chronicle sheets:
Let me know if there are any issues with the chronicles. Thanks again for playing; I'll set this inactive in two days (or sooner, if I know you got your sheets and signups are complete).

Chronicle looks good. One question, is it one or two reputation. I assume the shaded part is NOT the part to use.
DM Carbide
It's 1 Reputation. My GM chronicle didn't have anything on the right side of the vertical line; but all of yours do--Grannik has "18" there, which is just weird. The module says you get 1 Fame and 1 Reputation; after the first season that should be read as 1 AcP and 1 Reputation.
Grannik Eisfjdur

Yeah I think I put in my reputation into rpg chronicles fields. I suspect if I put 500 in by mistake it would come out with 501
Chén fú

I see, so the other number is the total after adding in the reputation gain. That makes sense.
