Sorry, I'd not been consciously aware of the 'burning sand' and when I 'searched' at the top of the page for the post I didn't find anything. Can I get a refresher on that information?

I figure this must've started as a typo, then some developer went 'oh, hey, let's keep that...!'.
I'd been rolling the damage myself (ex-post-facto) every round; my original hope was that the difficult-terrain aspect could be used to stymie the two riders' mobility, which was also why I'd trying (in-character) suggesting everyone step back, although in hindsight that'd likely have provoked.
BTW, I have been kicking myself for my spell-selection; even my rite of bodily purity spell, which costs 100 gp, has gone entirely to waste (I was REALLY expecting a rot-grub swarm, or something venomous/toxic, somewhere in here)! I could easily have prepared a lot more anti-undead spells, but doggonit, I figured having our Happy-Sun-Priest around meant I'd be better off doing otherwise....

@Alexis
I read the spell description and it says burning sands does only a d4 each round. Why are you rolling a d4+1?
Friendly reminder for everyone, this is just the sort of thing that THIS Discussion thread is here for, so the Gameplay thread doesn't need to get too cratered with behind-the-scenes rigmarole.
Anyway, you would be correct, except I threw in some saltpeter when I cast it!
Alchemical Power Components can be your very good friends - especially if you're an arcane mage with a False Focus!
Unfortunately, since Skalds work like the original barbarian, Syllyn loses con when he loses rage. 7 damage above max is enough to kill him. I really do not like that part. Should invest in a talisman and take a pass on the cloak of resistance.
Well, this is precisely what the phantom blood spell is for! Sadly, it's not on your list, but perhaps you have a way or two of acquiring it anyway...?

I could use spell kenning for that, but it would mean not casting barkskin and I really like barkskin. More than a cloak of resistance.
Now, using UMD with a wand might make sense. Cheap too as it is only 1st level.

@GM
When Syllyn was critted, was the damage from smite good added in? If so, Syllyn should probably get 14 damage back, putting him at 27 HP. Agreed?
phaeton_nz

Yes it was included.

Syllyn suddenly feels much better about this fight. Though those criticals are deadly and if he had any common sense he would flee.
Alexis "The Odd" Trismegistis

This b%#&~ seems to roll way more critical threats than she should, doesn't she!? I've been up against her before.
Now, using UMD with a wand might make sense. Cheap too as it is only 1st level.
You might also consider a Type I Ring of Spell Knowledge (The Archives seems confused as to whether or not it's legal - Additional Resources does say "all rings on pages 166-177 are legal for play"): Comparatively cheap, but it'll make you spend a 2nd-level slot for it, buuut it'd also mean you could use a wand of it without having to make checks. I suppose it depends on how often you think you'd use it; it's niche, but it does happen to be your niche.
Now, about Wavey Grave-y again: Did we somehow NEVER roll Knowledge for...whatever else she is? Isn't she a vampire or something, too? Does she have DR or not? This much doesn't seem to mention it.
phaeton_nz

Yep. DR 10/Magic. No, not a vampire, an elven graveknight antipaladin.
Alexis "The Odd" Trismegistis
|
I'm confused, where does the DR come from? You didn't mention it in the link above.
As I said before, I've been kicking myself for my spell-selection this time around.

From the PFSRD description of 'Grave Knight" Defensive Abilities: A graveknight gains channel resistance +4; DR 10/magic; and immunity to cold, electricity, and any additional energy type noted by its ruinous revivification special quality. A graveknight also gains spell resistance equal to its augmented CR + 11.

I probably should have mentioned it earlier then. My bad. Michiko selected cold.

And that concludes this adventure. You gain both prestige points. Chronicles will be posted in the next few days.
Super Cool, Thanks for running the game phaeton_nz!
Two question, will the samurai blades be available to purchase at 'pathfinder's costs' and any chance you can share the story of the guy locked in the room?
phaeton_nz
|
Oh. That was a Bodak trying to trick you into letting it out. As for the blades, if they're society legal, I can't see why not.
Alexis "The Odd" Trismegistis
|
A Bodak!? Jeez, and I thought the animate dream was bad...
...on the other hand, I can now claim to have singlehandedly defeated a bodak at 4th level!

Shortly, yes. But it still needs to be reported etc.

day job, Percussion: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20
reroll
day job, Percussion: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
Would you please add 20 gp to the chronicle sheet?
phaeton_nz

Done. Anyone else?
Alexis "The Odd" Trismegistis

Hmm, I don't recall you ever asking for Day Job rolls!
Profession (Astrologer): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (19) + 16 = 35 The Stars Were Right!!! Please fill that sucker in!
Also, I've FINALLY earned my Soul Warden Season 8 Faction Reward, hurrah for me (and DM, you are welcome to commemorate the achievement on this Chronicle however you see fit)!

Chronicle Updated
Baldrum Battlehand
|
Thanks for running - in the end, quite literally! ;-)
Chronicle looks good.
Regarding faction goals:
Did we, by any chance, defeat a divine spellcaster whose patron is an evil deity and whose CR is at least equal to Baldrum's character level (4)?
And if yes, does running away in the same combat (just after hitting the shadow) still count?
| The Shining Knight |
Sorry for missing the end of the combat, everyone. It sounds like it all turned out okay in the end. GM, I've got my Chronicle--thanks.
