Uori answers: "Thank you for the warning."
---
Cheeper smells old bones and rotting flesh, but each and every source of these odors is in plain sight. Trying to flush out the undead, Jack walks forward. As his living presence enters the chamber several of the bones begin to rise as undead gillmen silently reach out bony fingers for living flesh.

Jack tries again to hit the last skeleton... and this time, he succeeds! The separated skull breaks into pieces when it hits the floor and the remaining bones drop to the ground, not moving anymore.
Combat over!
Among the fallen bodies, you find a note written by the dhampir that details plans to start an army of undead made from the “fish people” who have been frequenting this cave. You also find a shiny ring and an exceptionally well made suit of studded leather armor. Using detect magic on them reveals that both items are magical.
armor.
Paloma Redclaw |
Paloma scans the area, detecting magic "I can tell this ring and armor are magical, but little else. I think we still have a scroll of identify if Nal would like to try."
She brings Cheeper closer to the passage Paul points out, watching her scent the air to see if the cat detects anything dangerous nearby.

Use the scroll on the ring is my vote.

I suggest to find at least one more magic item here, and then use the scroll. (As far as I understand/remember, I will be able to identify up to 3 items with one use of the scroll). However, if you insist, I'm ready.
Ryul Dathana |
I think you only get one item per scroll cause it takes three rounds to ID something with detect magic. I could be wrong though regarding identify.

Yes, it seems you are right, I did not understand this spell correctly. Well, then, the ring. And please ignore my post above.

Paul doesn't find any traps on the concealed door, so he opens it. Behind the door there's a tunnel.

Paloma nods, motioning for Jack to precede her in their usual marching order. "Youth before beauty." She adds with a grin.

"Do you hear that? It must be Janira!" She exclaims after they move into the tunnels.
GM Kaervek |
The light of the surface world above provides a welcome reprieve from the blue and green fungus of the caverns below, and light illuminates a stream whose water is hastened by runoff from a recent storm further up the mountains. A ledge to the west rises up to the nearby forest canopy.
You emerge from the caverns into a 40-foot clearing at the base of the Kortos Mounts. The full moon above casts provides dim light over the entire area, bright enough to illuminate even the shaded leaf litter beneath the trees.
Nearly 100 feet from the cave’s entrance, Janira Gavix is locked in combat with her relentless minotaur foe in a clearing on the southern bank of the stream. Janira looks exhausted as a scroll in her hand burns up with a final spell. The magic flows from the scroll as it sends cracks all along the minotaurs axe. Janira shouts, “You vile beast! Paloma had drawn the scroll case from her belt to have them ready as they made their way toward the exit of the tunnels, but once she saw Janira's peril she abandoned the idea of using them herself. Inside were Janira's scrolls, after all and one would be capable of concealing the halfling from her dangerous combatant.
She knew only one spell that could span the distance, so she pointed a hand toward the minotaur and called upon her bond with nature to impede the monstrous creature.
Casting Entangle, Reflex DC 12, put a green circle on the map to indicate area of effect. At the very least, difficult terrain will make it so he can't 5-ft step.
Then she commanded Cheeper's attention and gestured between the scroll case and Janira. "Take it to her girl, go to Janira, go!"

Is the dim light from being at night? If so, is the area illuminated in moonlight? I rolled ok, but the question may be relevant later.
Yes, it is night:
You emerge from the caverns into a 40-foot clearing at the base of the Kortos Mounts. The full moon above casts provides dim light over the entire area, bright enough to illuminate even the shaded leaf litter beneath the trees.
Ryul Dathana |
Ah perfect. Anyone with low-light vision can see fine then. The humans and halflings are still 20% screwed though.
GM Kaervek |
@Ryul: Unfortunately, this is not the case:
In an area of dim light, a character can see somewhat. Creatures within this area have concealment (20% miss chance in combat) from those without darkvision or the ability to see in darkness. A creature within an area of dim light can make a Stealth check to conceal itself. Areas of dim light include outside at night with a moon in the sky, bright starlight, and the area between 20 and 40 feet from a torch. (Source)
Elves can see twice as far as humans in conditions of dim light. (Source)

Paloma chews her lip apprehensively. She had hoped the halfling would have retreated to a safer distance by now, but she supposed that would only succeed in giving the Minotaur an opportunity to charge.
The boys were right to try and divide the beast's focus, though her heart ached at the risk. Cheeper looked so small in the distance, so fragile next to the monstrous creature. But Janira was definitely hurt and could likely not stand against another blow. She clenched her jaw with resolve as she lifted the signal whistle to her lips and sounded a blast to call the cheetah's attention onto her.
