I'm looking for 3-5 people interested in playing through either Mummy’s Mask, Reign of Winter, or Strange Aeons. If none of these spark joy, I’m open to other ideas. I own all of the PF1 APs, Extinction Curse, Zeitgeist, Savage Tide, and Way of the Wicked.
I run a heavily-modified version of Pathfinder that includes Elephant in the Room, a slightly adjusted Automatic Bonus Progression, Spheres of Might/Power, PF2e-esque character creation, and numerous subsystems and adjustments to almost all of the classes. If this doesn't scare you away, I have a private website linked in my profile that contains all the info. Don't worry: you don't need to become an expert in this – in fact, you don’t even need to look at the website right now. While I use it in my PbPs, it was originally set up for my in-person group, so there are certain elements that won’t be used. If you do glance over it, I'm more than happy to answer questions, but get more into it during the next recruitment stage.
Recruitment: I run my PbP recruitments in stages, so I'm not looking for character submissions at this time. I repeat: do not give me anything character-related aside from the barest fluff – and even that isn’t needed and will not be taken into consideration for this stage. Due to the idiosyncrasies of the PbP format, crunch is the least important part to a successful campaign. What matters more is player investment, sustainability, and "being on the same page," so to speak. In other words, the first step is for us to get a feel for each other. I'll go first. XD
I've been playing Pathfinder since Ultimate Equipment came out and would consider myself extremely knowledgeable system-wise. As a player (and as a GM), I prefer a good balance of roleplay and rollplay. Interactions between PCs are a particular love of mine, and if PCs are roleplaying well, I have no problem delaying a plot update until the interaction is done. I like my combats interesting and will often cut out or handwave encounters that the party would steamroll. Since PbP is so slow, it's important to keep things moving, and nothing bogs a game down like combat.
As a PbP GM, I've run a wide variety of games. Notable highlights include Rise of the Runelords with an all-Goblin party, a solo mythic tristalt “forgotten deity” homebrew, and an eight-person RoW campaign that lasted for almost six years. I’m currently running a gestalt CotCT campaign (started September 2020; currently starting Book Six) and just completed a solo gestalt S&S campaign (started June 2021; finished February 2024) on these boards if you want to see samples of my style. My posting availability varies (especially when school is in session), but you can generally count on a post or two every evening.
Other game-related stuff: I'm not particularly verbose, so if you're looking for thousand-word essays about crinkling grass and falling leaves, I'm not the GM for you. On the other hand, if your approach to NPC interactions is "I roll Diplomacy. 23", I won't be a good fit, either. As mentioned above, I'm quite knowledgeable about Pathfinder RAW, but I'm also a big fan of 'Rule of Cool.' If you want to do something that's not exactly in the rules, we can probably work something out. If the extensive homebrew ruleset didn’t make it clear, I own a massive library of 3pp material and am not afraid to pull things from it as needed. I've even ported over Dungeon World and 5e material on occasion. Player agency and fun are huge things for me, so I'll do everything in my power to facilitate your cool ideas in a balanced fashion. As an example, I particularly enjoy the “traps as puzzles” philosophy, so while rolling Disable Device is always a viable option, I love it when players find a creative workaround. That's about it for me right now. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'm looking forward to gaming with you. XD
Now it's your turn. Don't forget to tell me which AP is your preference. I'll advance to the next recruitment stage at the end of next week.

Javell DeLeon |

I would love to run in a Way of the Wicked. But if that doesn't get it done, Reign of Winter would be cool.
I've only played AD&D. AD&D Second Edition. AD&D 3.0 and 3.5. PF1 and PF2. Those are the only gaming systems I've played. All those other major systems and any 3PP are utterly foreign to me.
I've been in a multitude of games over the years - I've never run one due to not having the time for it because I KNOW how involved it is - and have found that characters with character are a ton of fun. I was originally a big-time power gamer at heart(still am for the most part) but I HAVE to play a pc that I enjoy playing personality-wise. Otherwise, it's boring. I don't care how super-duper he is mechanics-wise and it was playing PbP that taught me that. Which was cool. Definitely made me enjoy writing. Which is ALSO something I never did until I started PbP.
I've learned a lot from PbP.
I can post every day but it's only at night due to work except on weekends. I'm in CST(Texas). There are some days where work kicks me in the can and I might miss a day here or there though. This past year has been a beating but it's getting better.
Due to the idiosyncrasies of the PbP format, crunch is the least important part to a successful campaign. What matters more is player investment, sustainability, and "being on the same page," so to speak.
This is so true. Without it, a game dies a slow death in one fashion or another.
I'm also not someone who writes page after page with every post. I just write what I feel comes naturally with the pc. Whether it's one sentence or two paragraphs, it doesn't matter. I don't set limits on how much or how little I write, I just roll with whatever fits.
I've actually seen GM's recruit and demand that anyone who signs up for their game must write multiple paragraphs with each post or don't bother signing up. I kid you not.
It blows my mind what some folks ask for during recruits.
Anyway, that's about all I got at this point. Any questions, feel free to ask. :)
P.S. I've seen your name on these boards for a while. Obviously, I've never been in any games with you, that I recall, but I've seen you around. Sometimes, though, I do tend to forget. So if I have, apologies. :P

Interesting. I actually have not played any of these APs do definitely interested in them. Ill have to read up on Strange Aeons. I do know about Reign of Winter and Mummys Mask.
Though way of the wicked sounds interesting. My favorite RP probably to date is Kingmaker. But most of my pathfinder experience has been homebrew.

Kia ora koutou and howdy y'all - I'm dinketry
I recruited a group and started a Jade Regent campaign. Around the same time, I began (with a lot of help) the Asheville (now Appalachian) Pathfinder Lodge and became a Pathfinder Society VC. After a few years, I got a touch of wanderlust and relocated from the US to where I live now - Aotearoa (New Zealand). I brought my love of the d20 and Golarion here and started a new Pathfinder Lodge on the South Island (I'm based in Dunedin). Unfortunately, in the past few years, my opportunities for face-to-face gaming have been curtailed by global (COVID) and personal (two small gamers-to-be have joined my wife and me) and I've pivoted into online gaming, first via PbP gaming (of which I've run and played in lots of different short-term and long-term games) and more recently via VTTs (I run two 2e APs that have been ongoing for multiple years and play in another that is likely fit to end later this year).
I am lucky to have played a lot, but if I'm being painfully honest, I'm chasing that magical dragon that I had with my Jade Regent campaign once upon a time. The interpersonal action, the roleplaying, the effortless fellowship of that game was so wonderfully addictive - I keep coming back to roleplaying games to see if I can capture some of that again. I have had some luck - more on PbP boards than anywhere else - so I get cautiously optimistic when I see a post that feels right.
This recruitment post felt right, hence my message. Thanks for reading this far. I can be verbose, but in PbP games, I try to weigh my posts with quality over quantity. I do love PC-PC roleplaying interaction - I'll be the first to admit that I'll go down rabbit holes for recurring jokes, fun melodramatic asides, and back story callbacks. I am definitely not a min-maxxer. If anything, I am a max-minner - I create flawed characters that need to succeed with tactics, pluck, and serendipity. I prefer marshmallow fluff to cinnamon toast crunch, ya hear?
I would like to think that I'm good at keeping to a daily posting rate, but in all honesty, there will be times where things are too busy IRL and I need a poke to keep up the pace. I am in only two PbP games at present (and as a player only) and one of them is about to end, so I'm confident that my eyes aren't bigger than my belly, gaming-speaking, that is.
As hinted at in the spoiler, I fell in love with Pathfinder when I picked up and read the first few volumes of the Council of Thieves AP. I've never seen it offered on PbP and I would be very interested if it were to be. Of the APs listed, I am familiar with Strange Aeons (I'm a huge fan of the GCP - that AP is their main live show) and Mummy's Mask (but only from the Adventure Card Game, of which I am also a huge fan). I'd be keen to play either of those, with Strange Aeons slightly edging Mummy's Mask purely for the horror feel. I'm a bit cold to the idea of Reign of Winter (ya see what I did there?) - forgive me; I'm a dad and I have a licence for these jokes.

Mightypion |
way of the wicked can be fun, I am in a couple, and have a bunch of fluff to make the Iraeni/Caer Bryr more interesting.
I have played a Iraeni resistance fighter against the Mithrans, who sees himself as a valiant fighter for religious liberty and Iraeni customs, while the mithrans see him as a chaotic evil demon aligned terrorist, his specific Iraeni tribe as well.
Probably best discussed via pm :).

Hey I'd second/third/fourth vote for way of the wicked.
I've been playing tabletop for some 14 years, started with DnD 4e, moved to 3.5, then to Pathfinder and have bounced around with Pathfinder, PF2e and some DND 5th edition. Used to be involved in PF Society as a GM and I think I got to be a VL for a while but that was a long long time ago. I enjoy PbP and can pretty easily/regularly post once a day or once every other day.
I've been in a number of PbP campaigns that usually died out one way or another, but like a broken record I always come back ready for another one. I love the medium, I enjoy the better character interactions, having the time to think and consider my actions without feeling overly burdened with spur of the moment decisions like in person is nice.
I'd love the opportunity to play, I enjoy PF1E, I'm not a crazy meta gamer, I enjoy making wacky characters that can still contribute in meaningful ways.

![]() |

I'm also interested.
From your proposed APs, my preference would be Strange Aeons > Reign of Winter > Mummy's Mask. Aside from those, I've always wanted to try Zeitgeist and Way of the Wicked, but honestly I truly believe Way of the Wicked should be reserved for groups with lots of experience and that know each other for a good amount of time. Trust is very important in evil campaigns and it is something difficult/risky to do with total strangers on the internet.
The only idea you mentioned that I have no interest at all is Extinction Curse.

Imaginary Crayons |

Of the mentioned APs I'd vote:
1)Strange Aeons
2)Mummy's Mask
3)Reign of Winter.
The Extinction Curse definitely interests me as well. But to be totally honest, I'd be pretty much ok with any AP other than a fully evil campaign. I've played in one and didn't really enjoy it. I prefer to be the heroes of a game (even if we're not TOTALLY good guys).
I suppose I'd also include Giantslayer in my wishlist, but the one "campaign" I'd like to play most and have for a long time probably isn't on your radar: The Dragon's Demand. (Yeah, I know, not exactly an AP, but it goes to 7th or 8th level or something like that.)
I've been gaming since I was 13 years old, playing Red Box D&D games first, then moved through 1st to 5th editions (we intentionally did VERY little 4th edition. Didn't really care for it.). Throughout it all, we had an ongoing campaign that morphed with each edition, and got us up to 20+ level by the time we retired the characters.
I've been playing Pathfinder now for a handful of years, but find it's quite a bit like 3.5, so the transition was mostly painless and fun. I've played Shadowrun and d6 Star Wars, and even GM'd a bit, mostly Marvel Superheroes (FASERIP, anyone?).
I'm a married father of four, all gamers, and in my 50's. I work on an assembly line building transmissions for semi-trucks, and am an aspiring author. (Nothing published yet) As far as timezone for posting, I'm EST.
I prefer roleplaying over roll playing (though who doesn't like to toss some dice, right?), and feel the best games are where the character interaction and backstories drive the game rather than "magic bus" it around.
I'll be up front about the fact that I haven't played a lot on this particular site, and am just now returning from the sudden hiatus from the one game I left a year ago due to some rather personal issues in my homelife. We can discuss that privately if necessary.
All said, thanks for running a game, whether I get chosen or not. It's always cool to see new GMs taking the center chair to allow new players a chance to play. I hope to be in that situation at some point, to run a game here of my own.
- Cheers!

Wyshart |

Hey! I am interested. In terms of those 3 APs mentioned, I am down for any of those three, giving preference to RoW. To be honest, I would accept any 1E AP (I have played Carrion Crown and Rise of the Runelords, for reference, however).
Zeitgeist and Extinction Curse (backport?) also sound very fun, I would just not be interested in Way of the Wicked.
I am 31 years old and live in Brazil (GMt -3), so my posts would be beholden to that timezone. Important to note that English is not my first language. I would be able to post once per day at night (for me), maybe more. My schedule is fairly flexible (I am a doctorate student and a chemist).
I am relatively new to the TTRPG in general, starting around 2017 with DnD 5e for real. I had some previous experience with VtM a long time ago (2010-ish?) but it has all left my mind at this point. I started with PF 1e around 2020 and have mostly GM'd for my irl group.
I have been trying to get into PbP and am currently GMing Iron Gods for a group over discord. I have started posting on this forum looking for a group, as you can see they are basically all the posts on this forum account!
I have never used 3pp for PF 1e, but I would be willing to learn! In terms of the kind of player I am, in PbP terms, I'm still trying to get my footing, but I tend to not be overly verbose, particularly because it is even more opportunity for me to mess up with grammar.
Anyway, nice to meet you!

A quick note since Way of the Wicked is getting a lot of interest. I've attempted this campaign numerous times on the boards, both as a player and as a GM. It's never made it out of Book One. As Sir Longears alluded to, it's a very difficult campaign to make work. In addition to a compatible group of players, the need for a "decision-maker" is pretty huge. The adventure flips back and forth between a strict railroad and completely open-ended. "Here's an impossible objective, you have X days to accomplish it. No resources are provided, so you'll have to get creative." The story's fun, but the likelihood of the campaign ending prematurely is higher than most.

Javell DeLeon: Like you, I'm a reformed powergamer. The dice gods usually hate me, and I don't like to fail, so I set about creating characters who were almost guaranteed to succeed. That gets boring, so I decided to use my power for good by becoming a permanent GM. Now, when the dice don't cooperate, everyone wins. :-)
dinketry: That magical dragon you're chasing is hard to find, but when you do, there's nothing like it. That's why I do recruitment this way: an attempt to find the right people. As an aside, I may be a reformed powergamer, but my wife's a max-minner. My homebrew ruleset makes it very difficult to create a "bad" character mechanically, so the focus can shift more towards the "fluff" side. :-)
Codanous: I was this close to starting with 4e, but the store owner talked me into buying the PF1 CRB. Despite its oft-maligned reputation, 4e was pretty decent from a mechanical standpoint - it just leaned too heavily on the wargaming focus. I've stolen a couple things from 5e for my games: backgrounds, spending hit dice, and lair actions.
Imaginary Crayons: My wife's an aspiring author, too! Nothing published per se, but they're writing a web serial in a chapter-a-week format. Don't worry about the lack of activity on these boards. Life happens sometimes, and it's always more important that a game. I had something similar happen a few years ago, and since then, I've been very careful about not biting off more than I can chew in terms of games run.
Wyshart: Don't worry about being new to PbP; we all used to be in the same boat. :-) The same goes for any language concerns; I work as an interpreter, so linguistics is a particular interest of mine. I'm guessing you're Portuguese-English bilingual? I haven't played VtM but briefly explored a couple of the other White Wolf games because my wife likes them. Like you, I remember very little about them, but I do know that the ruleset isn't to my liking.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I look forward to hearing from the rest of you. :-)

I give the same advice to anyone interested in playing 'Skull & Shackles.'

My wrath of the morally pragmatic (a group of never do wells trying to do wrath of the righteous, with one token good paladin) is being pretty funny so far, said token Paladin being Shadow Dragon, but yeah, I get you.
That is by the way an impressive list of homebrew options!
Damn, sooo many ideas!
I currently play in a reign of winter and a strange aeons, so I would find mummies mask preferable. However, the early parts of strange aeons are awesome, and imho book one of strange aeons is one of the best that Paizo did.
Like, stuff I steal from 4e/5e are skill challenges, lair actions, and legendary resistances, but with a twist
A big boss can chose to suceed on a failed saving throw, but it costs him something serious, f.e. he only loses an arm not his head, one of his dangerous special attacks becomes disabled etc.
This way, the PC doesnt feel that their action was wasted, but bosses also dont get one shot.
Concerning playstyle, I powergamed a lot, coming from a wargame background (as well as a very crunchy german system called the dark eye, with a very frequently consulted random disease table while camping), I think I got better. One piece of advise I can give to powergames is to play support characters, and use ones mythic powers of munchkinism to gigabuff the party. It worked for me!

Hey YBD, I'm not sure how I missed this yesterday, but glad to see your running another game!
As we discussed, I'd love to play Mummy's Mask but neither Row nor SA interest me. As for the other options, I'd give anything a try except WotW. Elek was as evil as I'm willing to get.
If your taking requests, I'd love an Alt-Earth 'Mummy's Mask' Or Carrion Crown set around the turn of the century; you know 1890 - 1930's. Actually anything 'Penny Dreadful-ish' would work :)
When I started playing on the boards I was working third shift at a treatment facility, needing something quiet to occupy my mind. When I left that job in 2018 I started working for a bank and stopped playing during that time. I left the bank in 2019 to stay at home and take care of my mom. Since I had time on my hands I started playing again. Now I do most of my posting from 8 AM EST to 5 PM EST and check the boards again before I head to bed around 10. That way I can spend the evenings with my wife.
A little about me... happily married forty two years to a wonderful woman who let's me yammer on about the games I'm in. I stay at home taking care of the house and my 86 year old mother who has dementia. Both my kids live in the nearest 'Big City' Columbus Ohio. We're an hour's drive north east of them so now that Covid is overish we get to see the grandkids a couple times a month again.
Hobbies, Other than gaming? Well, I like to cook and eat, I'm trying to do low carb. Covid was hard on the waistline and I'm still learning how to deal with the stress of caregiving, yeah, I'm a stress eater. I read a fair amount; mostly fantasy, a little historical fiction and the occasional christian self-help book. Favorite modern authors: Joe Abercrombie, Brandon Sanderson and Jim Butcher. Favorite sport, my wife and I follow football. She actually watches more football than I do, but we’re both big fans of the Browns and Packers. I know two NFL teams? Yeah she grew up a Browns fan, me a Packers fan. We just adopted each other's teams one AFC and one NFC, no problems unless they meet in the superbowl....
Playing style. I like to play talkative characters generally who are Good. If you selected me, I would love to play Mummy Mask, I've got ideas for a catfolk full BAB or rogue, willing to play either. Game pace? I like RP as long as it pushes the story. Now, yes, character development is important to me, but that happens as the game moves along. I intentionally start characters young, so they can experience ‘the hero’s journey.’ I would certainly be interested in any of the other options, would just need to research the settings.

Lol! Oh my gosh, I SOOOOOO know the feeling. Me and the dice, I swear, are mortal enemies. They are consistently out to get me. Gosh, I hate the dice gods. And they know it. And they punish me for it.
Jerks. :P
Per the Way of the Wicked: I believe in one of them we made it to Book 2 but the others were no farther than 1. And all of them have been due to the DM dropping. I think I was in 3? 4 of them? One of the two. Anyway, there was one that we had a couple of issues with a couple of players. But it was handled accordingly. Outside of that, they were some fun games with some good players.
"In addition to a compatible group of players, the need for a "decision-maker" is pretty huge."
That is well said all around because it does tend to be quite the sandbox. For both the players AND the DM, seemingly.
Fun one to play though. At least in my experience. :)

One of my friends that I played Shadowrun with used to have this EXTREME issue with his six-sided dice rolling when using guns. He'd roll say, 8 or 9 dice and 5 or 6 of them would come up 1's. I've never seen someone roll SO MANY 1's on a continual basis in my life. It got so bad we started, in character, trying to figure out how to keep him away from firearms. LOL
...and now, back to the recruitment thread.

Linnea the Diviner |

Hey, another Coloradan! I've thought about trying to find a local Pathfinder group, but most people seem to be playing 2E these days and I'm a 1E fan. Also, I have issues with transportation.
I'd be down for either Reign of Winter or Mummy's Mask. If you're taking requests, though, I've always wanted to play Hell's Rebels. I have a couple character ideas for that one that I'd really like to play. An undead-centric campaign like Carrion Crown or Tyrant's Grasp would be fun too, and I have a wizard character I like from a very short-lived Shattered Star game.
I'm much better at writing and roleplay than game mechanics. Anyone remember the days of MUSHes and MUCKs? That's where I honed my text-based RP skills. I spent hours upon hours on those as a teenager. I also enjoy non-RPG creative writing and plan a character based on the overarching narrative I want to write.
Current characters and their stories:
Merixia Pentarian, hellspawn tiefling cleric of Ragathiel/hierophant (WotR): A former Chelaxian slave rescued by the Gray Corsairs of Andoran, Merixia has a good heart and a genuine desire to be the hero she needed as a child. Unfortunately, she also struggles with anger issues and insecurity. She worships Ragathiel because wow, here's a god who actually knows what it's like to struggle with the impulses of fiendish ancestry! He knows what it's like to be judged for how he was born! If Ragathiel could ascend to Heaven despite being Dispater's actual son, Merixia can overcome her touch of infernal blood and be a force for good. She joined the Mendevian Crusade because she craves battle and wants to take her anger out on deserving targets. (And just maybe prove to herself and the rest of the world that she can be more than what other people expect her to be.)
Katrine Thalian, green-born changeling ranger of the Green Faith (Kingmaker): Katrine was one of the lucky few changelings to be raised by loving parents in the full knowledge of what she is. Her parents decided that the best revenge on the hag who took advantage of her father would be to raise her daughter to side with humanity over the hag. And hey, they wanted a kid anyway. Katrine abhors hags in general and her birth mother in particular (favored enemy monstrous humanoids). She's a bit awkward around strangers, preferring the company of her wolfdog, but knows she'll need allies to take on a hag coven. Recently the ruling council of Tamlyn invited her to join after she helped them in several tough fights. Their acceptance and kindness is going a long way to bringing her out of her shell, and being Marshal will make her learn more people skills whether she likes it or not.
Zenaida Radulescu, Varisian human warpriest of Falayna (RotR): Zenaida's family has worshiped the empyreal lord Falayna for three generations, but only in her more peaceful aspect as patron of jewelers. Zenaida is the first to venerate Falayna's martial aspect. Given the lack of martial Falayna worshipers in Magnimar, she trained with the local church of Iomedae. On one troubleshooting mission outside the city, she met an outcast kobold sorcerer named Tarphrex, saving him from bandits before she could really see what he was. Zenaida was a bit taken aback at the identity of her rescuee, but the plucky kobold had been casting spells into battle with admirable valor, and he was very grateful to his new human friend. (An excellent friend for a kobold to have, with heavy armor and lots of muscle!) She decided to give him a chance and let him tag along with her, so when Sandpoint called for aid, the odd pair answered. These days Zenaida is very fond of her quirky little buddy and acts as his guide to the mysteries of human society. They're now part of a motley team investigating a cult of Norgorber in Magnimar. Zenaida is eager to track down the leader and give them a good smiting for daring to endanger her home and family, although there is a bit of friction between her and some members of the team. (What do you mean, ask the Hellknights for help?!)

Quick Update: We have eight people finished with this first recruitment phase and a few others who've dotted for interest. I can already tell it's going to be a tough decision.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mightypion: I hadn't heard of Dark Eye before, but the name Aventuria rings a bell for some reason. I definitely enjoy crunch and random tables. My initial exposure to TTRPGs was Traveler. Death during character creation was fun. :-)
Robert Henry: Told you I'd be running something again. XD
Linnea the Diviner: Longevity is definitely a struggle in the PbP world. Aside from a couple short one-shots, I've only been to complete one Adventure Path on these boards, but I'm hoping that number will increase.

Mummys Mask seems intriguing.
I have alot of ideas swimming around in my head.I might go for a Tengu of some kind. Really love Tengu.
Not sure what role, May hap a Ranger? Not sure.
Or lean into the 'bad luck' and go rogue?
"The tengu is going to disarm the trap? Get back everyone!"
Violant |

Even if two of the listed campaigns are ones I'm already in, and aren't far enough along to warrant me throwing my hat in the ring, might as well do so anyways.
I've been playing PF1 since around 4 or so years ago, when I started a Tyrant's Grasp campaign with a few friends over VTT. That campaign is far enough along that I am okay starting another one. I've been on the boards for a few months or so at this point.
I'm an aspiring Mathematician or Linguist hoping to make it to graduate school. Though, currently. I am in-between jobs, admittedly. I live in EST, if that's important to you in any way.
As for my roleplaying, I like to combine the mechanical with the role in fun ways. Not necessarily in a power-gamer sense, however. I'll be up front about the fact that I am... potentially in far too many campaigns and that it might come crashing down on me when they all pick up steam. I am, however, addicted to character creation, both background and crunch, and will not pass up a chance to do so.
Doesn't matter if I'm chosen, will be fun learning spheres of power! I'm already used to EitR feat taxes, as my friend's Tyrant's Grasp campaign uses them, and I use them in the two campaigns I GM (an Iron Gods and a backported Outlaws of Alkenstar)
As for AP preference, out of the three I have to pick Strange Aeons by default, but I would love someone else to take on the task of backporting to 1e. My character concept would likely depend highly on which campaign is chosen, but I'd imagine if it's Extinction Curse it'd be something specific to 1e that's impossible to do in 2e.

Ive played ttrps for about 27 years. Starting with DnD 2e and with Pathfinder played it after 4e seemed to be dead.
On here I dont remember when I started on here but have played alot of games.
I am not a fan of 2e Pathfinder, so I havent played alot of it. My favorite campaigns on here were a Wheel of Time blemdes with Pathfinder and a Pathfinder based in an Alternate real world Reinessence.
Ill look again and see what short of Tengu I want

LDDragon |

Would be interested in any of the three listed.
1 Reign of Winter
2 Strange Aeons
3 Mummy’s Mask
or even any of the others. Way of the wicked less preferable.

GM_Panic |

Would be interested in any of the three listed.
1 Reign of Winter
Oooo Reign of Winter now we are talking.
I have played on here with more than a few of my fellow applicants.
I think my 1st post here was way back in 2012, how time flys.
Started Roll back in high school, playing with DnD red box and Marcs 1st 3 Traveller black books. So I'm old school , old so every old haha. Sandy Peterson is a mate from cons long gone, I know a few publishers like the Mongoose man men and Ricks gang at the RuneQuest RPG team.
I am way more into Character then rules, yes its fun to find a mix, but I do like player/PC interactions more the pouring over rules. Mind you the odd and mad idea for a PC always attracts me. Like a Gnome who shrank himself and lived on a flying ship crewed by soul powered Dolls.
But I have found most fun with bad roll PCs that on paper would be weak and near unless but in the end drove story and action.
Above all I like a good story, ether by one mind or made as a collective.
So to sell myself into this game, all I can say is.
"Let me tell you a story" :)

Violant: As long as they're fairly slow-paced, being in a bunch of campaigns simultaneously is fine. I don't have the time nowadays, but for a while, I was playing and GMing something like six games at once.
Critzible: I like elements of PF2e, but overall, it isn't for me. Character creation's great, but I'm not a fan of the changes to how magic works.
LDDragon: If I ever win the lottery, I'd want to open a game cafe, so I'm definitely a little jealous. :-)
GM_Panic: My first-ever exposure to RPGs was through the Traveller black books. They belonged to a friend, so I borrowed them for a week and hand-copied everything into a set of notebooks. I tried running the sample adventure for my siblings, but none of us had any clue what we were doing. Good times. :-)

My favorite RPG is Hackmaster 4e. Such a fun game wirh healthy doses of humor and hard mode. Ie Putting the Muppets in Heavy Metal Magizine.
If I could find a good way to play it online Id be there in a heart beat!!!
I also am reading your home brew leaning towards a Ranger/Rogue Tengu with a Rook companion [aka an eagle sozed Raven] of that is possible. Unless we do Mummys mask then maybe a good old fashioned Halfling Rogue. Its my default go to aside from human fighter

Hey Critzible, make a note of how the tengu speak. I absolutely love the rule it should certainly add a lot of flavor to the character.
YBD mentioned several AP's, and like you, (if I were selected) I would base my character's race on the AP and class on what others are playing. Most of the time I play Full BAB or Rogues. There are the exceptions like Naomi, but they are rare.
I'll admit it's fun reading folk's descriptions, both how they interpret the question and how they answer :)

Hey you're totally right, on second thought as much of a unique experience it would be to play in a Way of the Wicked, I'd prefer a lower risk option than Way of the Wicked. Regarding the remaining options I guess I would order them as:
1) Strange Aeons
2) Reign of Winter
3) Mummy's Mask
Yeah I enjoyed 4th edition, I actually learned with 4E Essentials which was like idk an even easier watered down version of 4th Edition but it was great for learning and getting into the hobby. Acted as a springboard to launch me into the mess that was 3.5 and then finally into Pathfinder.

It's 7am for me, and I need to head to bed, so I'll just briefly express my interest in some non listed APs:
I would gladly sell the souls of a small village to play in and complete Rise of the Runelords, Curse of the Crimson Throne, or Council of Thieves.
Of the ones you've listed, Reign of Winter is my primary choice, followed by Mummy's Mask. I don't really have any desire to play in Strange Aeons.
I'll post an about me once I wake up this afternoon.

Just one note: If Rise of the Runelords was a possibility, that would absolutely be my first choice. The opportunity to play that classic with a high chance of completing it all would be awesome. Just saying.

Wyshart |

Wyshart: Don't worry about being new to PbP; we all used to be in the same boat. :-) The same goes for any language concerns; I work as an interpreter, so linguistics is a particular interest of mine. I'm guessing you're Portuguese-English bilingual? I haven't played VtM but briefly explored a couple of the other White Wolf games because my wife likes them. Like you, I remember very little about them, but I do know that the ruleset isn't to my liking.
Yep, Portuguese-Engllish bilingual! About VtM I also did not like it as much, but I'd be remiss to not consider since it was my first time it was the growing pains of the hobby.
Anyway, back to recruitin'

I wouldn't call myself a 'reformed powergamer' so much as an optimizer who has the good sense to optimize for things other than campaign-obliterating levels of RAW POWER. I like exploring odd little mechanical niches that enable novel character concepts, or let me express character concepts in ways that have interestingly different strengths and weaknesses than their 'default' ways of doing so in 3.5/PF.
Of the options presented, my own preference order would be Strange Aeons > Reign of Winter > Mummy's Mask: exploring sanity and the contrast between PF's heroic-fantasy themes and the Mythos' cosmic-horror ones strikes me as a grand old time.

Hi YBD! Nice to see you potentially running another game. I was just looking at my goblin character again yesterday from your goblins vs RotR game. Ah, happy memories.
My thoughts on APs: I'll gladly play in any of them, there are things I appreciate about each. Probably my first choice is Mummy's Mask, then Strange Aeons and Reign of Winter. I've played through the first book of all three of them several times but never got to any of the bigger stuff. I think your concerns about Way of the Wicked are well-founded, since they match my experiences playing through the first two books. I don't know anything about Extinction Curse, Zeitgeist, or Savage Tide (looking them up I see that they're 2E APs), but adapting one of those back into pseudo-1E Pathfinder sounds awesome to me if you were willing to do it!

![]() |

Hello YBD!
Wow! I'm really loving the chance for Strange Aeons to run! And since I opened with that, I'll go ahead and get preferences out of the way. Obviously Strange Aeons is my top choice. Savage Tide also sounds tempting. And since you have all the PF 1e APs... I'm going to probably go against the grain and throw out Return of the Runelords and Tyrant's Grasp as a couple I'd be interested in. Neither of the them seems to get much attention in terms of recruitments for them here, so they've been very underrepresented compared to other APs here.
I'm an ex-college instructor now state social worker/case manager who works with low income families at an elementary school. I live in Oregon, so I'm in the Pacific time zone. I'm in my mid-40's, divorced, with a kid and some pets.
My first brush with RPGs was in high school when I played a little bit of D&D with some friends. It was fun, but didn't last long or really go anywhere. Then, a long time passes and I ran across an article online named All I needed to know about life I learned from "Dungeons & Dragons" . I was amused enough to read it, and it reminded me that RPGs had really been fun. I decided to see about finding something to play, and there was a PFS group down at the game store at the end of the street. I played PFS there weekly for almost a year until the chapter folded.
Since I didn't really have the free time to look around for, and commit to, an in-person table. I found a game on Roll20 that I played in for a while until the game folded. Then, I found the forums here and I've never looked back. I've been playing Pathfinder here exclusively since 2015. My first game ever, RotRL, ran for 8 years and sadly just recently ended before we could complete the entire AP.
I really love the PbP format since I write better than I speak, and it works well with my RL time constraints. For me PbP is mostly about collaborative creativity, sort of a mix of a writing experiment and improv. The magic is really in the character interactions.
My role play habits tend toward skills and mixed weapons and magic, so I love my Bards, Inquisitors, and Investigators. I do play martial and full caster classes as well, just not as often. I'm not much of a rules and mechanics person, so my builds tend to be fairly vanilla. Mostly I concentrate on background and personality and let the build follow from that.
I haven't wandered much from Pathfinder, which I guess makes sense considering I only play in games here. I have tried out Savage Worlds, which seemed okay. Call of Cthulhu is the only game aside from Pathfinder that I've really loved, which explains my vote for Strange Aeons. I haven't switched to Pathfinder 2e aside from building one character. i don't have anything against it, but I'm still happy with 1e and haven't gotten around to trying to learn 2e at this point.

Tried to form groups IRL many times, but it never worked out past a couple sessions. My first actual group happened after I graduated and we kept plain weekly until Covid. Now I'm waiting for the kids to grow a bit before reforming the group.
Got into PBP in 2015 and loved it. Had to take a time out because of burnout, but returned around 2019 and have been here ever since. I've played mostly PF1e, then migrated to 2e and now I'm returning to 1e. Not really a fan of 2e anymore.

3 people marked this as a favorite. |

Lots of activity while I was asleep. We're up to 16 applicants plus a couple people who've dotted for interest.
@Robert Henry: That's why I start recruitment with this step and keep things open-ended in terms of responses. It gives me some good insights into the applicants, and hopefully my replies do the same. There's a fair bit of nuance to it. :-)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Toptomcat: Exploring "odd little mechanical niches" is something I enjoy as well. I played MtG for a short time and made a point to ignore "meta decks" in favor of weird stuff that shouldn't be as effective as it was. :-)
eriktd: Hello again! Chambawamba was a lot of fun. That's the great thing about goblin games: they rarely last for very long, but the interactions are always hilariously bizarre.
rdknight: IRL, I'm probably an Investigator. I have approximately one rank in every Knowledge skill and have always wanted to to be a trivia game show. "For me PbP is mostly about collaborative creativity, sort of a mix of a writing experiment and improv." This is a great sentence, and very accurate. It's not what most people expect when they think of creative writing, but a long-running PbP campaign is tens of thousands of words that form a detailed story. :-)
Sir Longears: After skimming the Wikipedia entry on 3d&T, it looks like it could be a decent "starter RPG"? Something roughly akin to the "Powered by the Apocalypse" systems? I like my games more crunchy, so it likely wouldn't be for me.

Robert Henry |

Hey YBD, this may be a little premature, but whatever AP or game you pick, are we using guns? I know you don't have a gunslinger class so that probably points to the answer, but 'Spheres' does have gun stuff so I thought I'd ask.
Yeah, one of the characters I have on the shelf for 'Mummy's Mask' uses a pistol and blade, so I thought I'd ask.,

Your Benevolent Dictator |

@Imaginary Crayons: I'm tracking what applicants are saying regarding AP preference but haven't found a definitive winner yet. As for my personal preference, I don't have one.
@Robert Henry: I very much ascribe to the "no guns in fantasy" philosophy with a few exceptions for specific campaign moments.

Robert Henry |

Sweet, thanks for the quick answer. I totally understand and basically agree. When I built that particular character for 'Mummy's Mask' I was thinking of Rick O'Connell and wanted a gun, well actually lots of them. But I will leave him on the shelf and go a different direction.
For Mummy's mask' I'm leaning towards a Catfolk who grew up nearby. A descendant of followers/guardians of Bastet or possibly a Shemtej. The character could easily be combat oriented or a skill monkey without changing the backstory.
Obviously just spit balling here for the chance you choose 'Mummy's Mask.' Any other game would be a different character.

Monkeygod |

Hallo! I'm Monkeygod aka UncleMonkey. I currently don't work a normal job, as I stay up all night to keep an eye on my 100yr Grammy, so my mom can get a good night's sleep(hence why I was just going to bed at 7am this morning when I made my first post). However, I do occasionally work at comic conventions(mostly NYCC, but others in the northeast/east coast area as well) with a fairly famous comic book cover artist(Greg Horn, for those wondering). I also work gaming cons(like GenCon) with a friend of mine who created the world's most unpredictable wrestling card game, The Supershow! My mom and I started our own candle making business last spring as well(still in the *very* early stages).
I started TTRPGs in 96 with 2nd ed VtM, though we switched to Revised as soon as it came out. Began playing D&D when 3.0 came out, and played that till 4e. I've been playing PF since the alpha, but sadly, despite playing for so long, I've never actually completed an AP. Furthest I got was early book 3(I *think*) of Rise.
My style of GM is very similar, as I try to be as permissive as possible within the confines the setting. I will tell my players that they can always change up their PC or even completely rebuild them if for some reason they don't like their character. This is obviously easier in a D&D/PF game, but the whole point is for the players to have fun. If your build doesn't work the way you thought it would or you grew bored with it, or heck even if you found a brand new class that fits your concept better(or you come up with a whole new one you would rather play), I'll find a way to make it work in game.
Because, that's exactly what these all are: Games, and to me, the point of them is to have fun. While everybody's definition of fun can be different, if one person isn't enjoying themselves at my table, I not only want to know why, but I want to work with them to fix it.
I generally prefer to play/run using gestalt(or morestalt, lol) and with as many 3pp books as possible.I'm friends with a bunch of 3pp writers/publishers, and I try to support them whenever I can.
Other hobbies include Magic the Gathering(mostly via Arena) with my preferred format being Commander/Historic Brawl, pro wrestling(WWE/NXT, AEW, NJPW, TNA, ROH, and indie promotions!), comics, various video games(WoW, Diablo II/III, the Might and Magic series, etc) and cheering on the New York Yankees!
My posting availability is generally everyday, unless something comes up IRL (like it has with my Grammy) or if I'm away for a convention. I'll always try and give a heads up beforehand however.
Hopefully I'm a good fit, as I can't really play many IRL games due to all that's going on. I do have two VtM games(one on a slight break, one every other week), but those are both via discord chat. Aside from that, I'm in a heavily modified and altered WotW game on a different site. So, not many games for me right now <super sadness>.
Ps,
Not gonna lie that mythic tristalt 'forgotten deity' game sounds badass AF! As does a gestalt CotCT(which means you probably don't wanna run that one atm /sad times).
