Thank you to all who applied and let's have a fun game. You may introduce yourselves and explain in a sentence your connection to Otari - how long have you been here? What's your connection to the town?
Please finalize your characters for my review. Remember that this is my first PF2E game so I am bound to make mistakes so would appreciate patience and understanding.
Luc Theriot |
Hey all, I am Lucendar, formerly playing Bones, the half-orc fighter. However, since 2 melee types have been chosen with weapon and shield, my character's fighting style felt redundant, so with the GM's permission, I have changed my character to Luc Theriot, human 2-weapon fighter. He was born in Otari and when he's not checking out ruins, he's working for the Otari Guard. He's not on Captain Longsaddle's good side, given his chaotic nature. He tries, he's just too curious for his own good. However, he has grown good at lying to his commanders when they ask why he has reported late to his post. Luc likes adventure, partying, and wants to leave the small town and see the world. Thus, he will volunteer for any missions that will lead him to that goal. He is aware of the town's history and the role the Roseguard played in finding the town and he hopes to live up to their lofty expectations.
That's Luc in a nutshell so if you are local, you've seen him around town flirting with the local women and slacking off. Looking forward to this game!
Serenllys |
Oceanshieldwolf, playing Serenllys (pronounced Seh-wren-thliss, a bastardisation from Welsh “Star-brow”).
Most of the broad brushstrokes are in the Recruitment thread. Elven rogue, friends with Wrin Sivinxi, part time delver, full time exotic wine connoissuer.
Is likely Seren has rebuffed drunken (or sober!) advances from Luc, but takes no especial insult - the two may also have crossed paths exploring local ruins. You’d have seen Seren in Tamily’s place carousing mildly, or on an errand from Wrin.
Kamau, Black Butterfly Champion |
Kamau has grown up in Otari, since being abandoned as an infant in front of the guardhouse about 18 years ago. He is deaf and mute. Though not yet an adult by the standards of Dwarven society, he has recently taken up the mantle of a champion to the Cosmic Caravan pantheon.
My character sheet is ready. The only things I took that aren't in the Core Rulebook are the assistive devices.
Kelri Greenhill |
Hi all! Kelri's always lived in Otari with her family and considers it her home. She's friends with the owner of Odd Stories, Morlibint, as they share an interest in books and magic.
She probably knows of everyone and would be eager to listen to stories of their previous adventures if they shared them.
Kelri's sheet is ready for review.
Marietta The Blazing Justice |
Hey guys, Ricka here playing Marietta
Marietta is a wannabe crusader, not quite a champion but more of a cleric as her class suggest, she grow up in Otari so she likely knows Lucender and Kamau, thing is she leave to pursue the path of the crusader but then the events of Tyrant Grasp happened and Lastwall was destroyed, her brother a realized knight died there and she... She couldn't deal with all of that and ran away.
Cowardice to face evil is anathema to her as a follower of Ragathiel so she kinda lose her magic or at least didn't dare to use it as she felt unworthy.
After that she returned to Otari and lives with her father and uncle, she's been training and praying in order to atone for her cowardice, she isn't quite ready to leave once again however
She is often at the local temple helping Vandy and uses her martial skills and healing magic to help around.
That being said everyone knows that she returned as a coward and some just can't trust her when it comes to fighting, Captain Longsaddle sees her more as a liability and prefer is she stays at the temple.
Others look her with pity or simpathy or a mix of these, but nonetheless she's as useful as a cleric can be
Ahem, so how do your characters feel about Marietta if they know her?
Serenllys |
@Marietta: Seren prefers to watch and learn rather than rely on hearsay. Even if Marietta tells Seren the truth Seren will still likely reserve judgment until such time as any cowardice manifests. Also, given the old adage “live to fight another day”, Seren sees the odd bit of prudent retreat as sustainable rather than cowardly…
Luc Theriot |
Luc agrees with Seren and would not pass judgment on Marietta, until she exhibited cowardice in front of him. He knows that in his life he has been judged by others (ahem Capt. Longsaddle) as a no-gooder who will never get far in life, so he tends to reserve his judgments on fellow warriors.
As for Seren, Luc still has not hope that the elven lass will one day notice him! :)
I have 5 gp remaining btw so when we meet up for the adventure, I will be happy to donate it if someone needs any equipment. Seren, you may want to buy some thieves' tools since you are our rogue.
Marietta The Blazing Justice |
@Luc, Marietta is in good terms with Lucender, she respect and even admires his skill with weapons, since the captain neither has the best opinion of Marietta both should be friends but not too close as both has their own things to do, that may change as they spend more time working together
@Serenllys, so far I think Marietta hasn't cross paths with Seren too often, they both surely know each other and her opinion of Seren is good
@Kamau, as a champion Marietta has certainly noticed the dwarf, not many interaction between them, she seems him as someone trustworthy
@Kelri, since both has grow up in Otari they most certainly know each other, currently they likely meet often in the Dawnflower Library and are on good terms.
Besides these, if anyone has get injured the last year or so Marietta could have healed them as that has been her most prominent service to the town, more likely Luc as the guards are expected to get hurt while performing their duties

I also have a spare 5gp if we need extra gear. I did buy healer's tools and a repair kit so the party has those available.
@Marietta I like the idea that our characters meet up at the Dawnflower Library. Kelri wouldn't have minded the talk of cowardice much, but would have been very sympathetic about the death of your brother since she has siblings herself.
Kamau, Black Butterfly Champion |
@kelri - Excellent. I'm trained in Crafting but hadn't bought a repair kit yet, though my shield will no doubt be happy that someone else planned ahead with it. :)
Kamau, Black Butterfly Champion |
@GM - Two quick questions.
First, are you giving PFS chronicles for this? If you don't have experience with that, I can talk you through how to handle that. I'm fine either way, but figured it was worth asking.
Second, are we using any of the new remastered Core rules, or sticking with the original 2E rulebook? Some things, like crafting and recall knowledge as well as various feats, were rewritten to be a little clearer or more balanced. I have both, so am happy to work with either. Champion isn't in the new Player Core, so none of my class feats have been reworked yet, so probably has less of an impact on me than some of the others.
Marietta The Blazing Justice |
I haven't look at the remastered rules but I read that focus spells are more affordable now, besides that I'm okay and willingly to learn them if used
Kelri Greenhill |
@Kamau no worries, I also trained in Crafting and had plwnty of gold since I don't need to buy weqpons or armor. I was wondering if Kamau had any interest in books and reading growing up, maybe as a way to connect/communicate without sound? If so could be a good way for him and Kelri to have become friends?
Luc Theriot |
Marietta, yeah definitely, Luc would know you from around town for your healing services. Not that there is any action in this town, but maybe he took a couple of hps of damage, here and there, in the ruins. :)

In response to your questions:
1. No.
2. I know the terminology changed and the new remaster rules are available on the Archives of Nethys website, but I do not have the new books so will go with original PF2E rules. However, if a player wants to bring a new rule to my attention that streamlines an issue, I would be willing to implement it. Same for new feats or abilities. I will play it by ear.

Ok with character sheet review:
Serenllys:
1. Please list your remaining gold - I appreciate your gold calculations for the weapons and items separately, but it would be nice to not do math and just know how much gold you have left. :)
2. On the Race/Class tabs, please add your stealth and thievery bonus, as those checks will be used a lot.
Marietta:
1. I limited character creation to CRB but will allow you to keep the Order of Knights Experience background and Courtly Graces benefit.
2. You do not have gold or equipment listed other than armor, weapon, and shield. Please list gold and confirm those are your only earthly possessions.
3. I am confused by the +1/+2 shield raised in the Race/Class levels line of your profile.
Kelri:
1. I do not see your background selection.
2. When you cast your spells in game, I hope you provide a link to the spell or post a description of its effect, so it is easy for me to access in game.
Kamau:
1. I hope that in game when you use liberating step in conjunction with unimpeded step, you will post a link or description of it since there is no description in your profile.
Luc:
1. Same as Kamau with regard to Cat Fall.
Everyone did a pretty good job with their sheets. We have 2 characters who cannot see in the dark: Luc and Marietta, but with the Light spells, you should be ok.

Yes, I figure that in most combat rounds I'll end with raising a shield, and then I'll post that at the first opportunity I'll either do a Shield Block (if the attacks is against me) or a Liberating Step (if the attack is against a nearby ally). I will post something in the profile, but will still try to describe my possible reactions during combat. If there's difficult terrain around, I'll try to remind people about the Unimpeded Step.
Kelri Greenhill |
@GM Kelri took the Bibliophile bqckground from the Player's Guide, I've added it to her sheet. And I will explain the spell mechanics in the game thread when I cast them. Kelri also doesn't have darkvision just in case it comes up.

Yeah sorry about that, backgrounds seems very inconsequential mechanically and I didn't find anything else that fits my idea, thanks for allowing it.
Oh, right I forget to list the money and prices of my equipment will add it.
The shield thing is... Raising my actual shield gives me +2 circumstance bonus to ac and also there's the shield cantrip that gives me only +1 ac
Serenllys |
@AoW: yep done and done. Has 9 sp and 6 cp remaining. Couldn’t afford a bow/quiver/arrows but I’m sure she will find or buy one eventually!

Regarding the remaster, I'm still reading through the books but have already implemented two rules changes in my campaign which would be worth considering.
1. Reducing the standard DC for Aid to 15 instead of 20. This makes it much easier for low level players to use it while they also have less options for their actions and reaction.
2. Using the Interact action to swap a held item or weapon for another. Otherwise the most action efficient way is to Drop it as a free action and then draw the new one as an Interact action which felt kinda silly and meant having to track where items were dropped in case they needed to be picked back up.
Kamau, Black Butterfly Champion |
Yes, the set DC 20 for Aid was always weird, and at lower levels (or lower training) made you almost as likely to hurt the process as help it. I always did a house rule that the Aid DC was 5 less than the target DC, but having a set DC at 15 makes sense and is more streamlined.
The other one makes sense mechanically, too. I never had problems flinging weapons to the ground, but see that this is just more efficient.

I like both of these so they are implemented. Thanks for the input.

I created a Google slides presentation that you can access through the link above my avatar. There is a slide for the players, the town of Otari, and the regional map with the suggested route down the coast of the Isle of Kortos and then west through the Immenwood forest to the crypt. I will post combat maps, npc/monster images, etc. on the slides as the campaign progresses.

Right now we have View Only access. I have a different image that I was going to use for my icon on the slides, and we'll need access to move around on the maps and such.

Flat footed Is now off guard? Didn't knew it
Kelri Greenhill |
Flat-footed to off-guard is a remaster name change, so you'll likely see groups using both for a while.
I had a look through everyone's skills to get an idea of what was available to the party and found some bonuses that had been missed.
- @Marietta your Acrobatics should be +4 not +1
- @Serenllys your Crafting should be +5 not +2 and you should be trained in an additional skill of your choice. Rogue (Stealth + 7 + Int (2)) + Scoundrel (Deception, Diplomacy) + Starwatcher (Occultism, Lore) = 14 trained skills, not 13
Marietta The Blazing Justice |
- @Marietta your Acrobatics should be +4 not +1
It's untrained and I've only 12 (+1) de so... +1
Stat blocks in pathfbuilder always list acrobatics even if untrained for easy reference

Huh, didn't know pathbuilder did that. In that case shouldn't you have another trained skill then? Cleric (Religion + Deity (Intimidation) 2 + Int(0)) + Skilled Heritage (Diplomacy) + Order of Knights (Society, Warfare) = 7 trained skills total
Marietta The Blazing Justice |
Will review it when I get home, I've the pathbuilder in other device
Edit:I think I'm missing medicine which I remember to grab since I'll go for continual recover later on, in any case thanks for pointing out, still I better review it on the pathbuilder
Serenllys |
Thanks Kelri. Have chosen Arcana. And now realised that although I have trained in Medicine and the Battle Medicine skill feat, I have no healer’s tools. So that’s first on my list, then a longbow.
AV_DM |
Kelri, appreciate the assist on the skills review! When I reviewed the characters, I focused more on to hit and damage and spells rather than skills. Every little bit helps.
Updated the map. The blue star is where you found the corpse and the green star is where you are currently camping.
Marietta The Blazing Justice |
Since we rest I changed one of my prepared for Bless, I think it'll be helpful if we stick together and flank given the previous situation
Kamau, Black Butterfly Champion |
A 19 AC, with an attack that had grab and poison, could have gone very badly for us if we hadn't gotten some good rolls in early on.
