Kamau's backstory:
The dwarven child was left in a basket outside of the Otari garrison, wrapped in blankets. The only identifying information left with him was his clan dagger, sheathed in the folds of the blankets. Though never formally adopted, he was cared for by several of the guardsmen and their families. None of the local dwarves were able to identify the clan markings on his dagger, and though they helped care to the boy's needs and education, none wanted to take in someone from what seemed obviously such a disgraced clan that it was not recorded in any of their books of dwarven lore.
The dwarf boy never cried as a child, and those who cared for him quickly realized that he was mute. In addition, he could not hear, either. As such, he received little in the way of formal schooling, and often spent time outdoors on physical pursuits. He would watch the guard practice and mimic their movements, growing adept at the martial arts.
With no place to call home, he would often spend his nights in the nearby swamplands, looking up at the stars and embracing the stillness of his surroundings. He gradually came to worship those stars, in the form of the Celestial Caravan, but was specifically drawn - some might even say chosen - to serve as a champion of the Black Butterfly. In doing this, he adopted the name Kamau, or "silent warrior," to mark his new calling.
He has recently decided to prove his devotion by offering his services to protect others as they travel at night.
Edicts:
Liberator champion: oppose slavery and tyranny, fight for others’ freedom to make their own decisions, respect choices others make for their own lives
Cosmic Caravan pantheon: spend time stargazing or meditating in moonlight, aid those who live in regions where Zon-Kuthon (or other religions that espouse the night as a bastion for evil) hold sway, help the desperate or forlorn to see potential for a better life in the future, travel with no particular destination in mind
Black Butterfly: Study the stars, notice moments of silence, perform anonymous acts of kindness

Liberator champion: force or threaten someone to act a certain way, engage in slavery or tyranny
Cosmic Caravan pantheon: portray the night as a time of evil, destroy astronomical or astrological equipment, spend the night in the same place twice in a row
Black Butterfly: Disrupt another’s meditation, interrupt tranquil moments, play noisy or discordant music
Reactions in Combat:
In most cases, I will attempt to Raise a Shield as my final action on my turn, to get the AC bonus. This means in most combat rounds I will have two possible reactions. When the first opportunity presents itself react, I will do it, unless I explicitly state otherwise:
↺ Shield Block
Trigger: While shield is raised, I would take physical damage (bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing) from an attack
Prevent 5 damage. The shield and I each take remaining damage.
↺ Liberating Step
Trigger: An enemy damages, Grabs, or Grapples your ally, and both are within 15 feet of me
Ally gains resistance 3 against triggering damage. The ally can attempt to break free of effects grabbing, restraining, immobilizing, or paralyzing them. They either attempt a new save against one such effect that allows a save, or attempt to Escape from one effect as a free action. If they can move, the ally can Step as a free action, even if they didn’t need to escape.
Unimpeded Step feat: This bonus movement is unaffected by difficult terrain, greater difficult terrain, narrow surfaces, and uneven ground.
Talismans:
Starknife has Owlbear Claw (gain knife critical specialization on a critical hit with Starknife)
Shield Boss has Potency Crystal
Focus Spells:
Lay On Hands (◆, Range: touch): Target ally heals 6 HP and gains +2 AC for 1 round. Target undead takes 1d6 damage and makes basic Fortitude save vs DC 12, or also takes -2 AC for 1 round.
