"Ouch!" Merida stumbles back, as she didn't excpect her fellow pathfinder to attack her. Quickly recovering, she draws her bow and nocks an arrow. "Did you want to make me angry? Because if yes, you succeeded quite well! ...wait. I have emotions again? Huh..." The fighter, quite confused, drops the arrow and rubs her cheek (which is turning bright red).

We want to catalogue it and may never have another opportunity to explore the Swift unsupervised. While investigating the derro invasion, head to the chapel and inspect the bell. If possible, I want you to determine whether the Chapel’s bell is in fact the legendary bell of obedience without taking it from the prison." (...)

In light of this, I have moved Merida and Theron's tokens on the map, to reflect Merida examining the bell and Theron keeping guard at the doorway to the chapel.

In addition, I will assume that Merida has not yet undertaken the actions indicated in this prior post. (For reasons.) Once the party concludes that it is done with its examination of the bell, I will adjudicate Merida's prior post accordingly.

NOW that the bell has been dealt with (and in the interest of keeping us moving), I will assume Merida took the actions indicated previously and adjudicate Merida's prior post.

Merida Bowie wrote:
Merida then moves further north and checks the doors for traps (and if they are locked), starting in the east.

Presumably, the rest of the party follows in established marching order.

The fighter passes through the keep's yard. Here, rusted, iron flakes dust the ground around a series of thick gates andfour derro corpses surround an insectile quadruped. Countless barbed crossbow bolts penetrate the strange beast’s hide, and where its head should be, thick ichors moisten the ground around two separated feathered antennae

As Merida approaches the first door, the ground shakes just before a large creature suddenly bursts from the ground just before her!

The creature looks aggressive, like one who had once been magically calmed, only to become all the more violent once the affect was removed.

Merida confirms that it is neither an aberration or a form of ooze.

The correct skill is Knowledge (planes) and I believe this would qualify as a "common monster", so a DC 10 is sufficient to identify the creature.

Merida believes this living landslide is a large earth elemental, which has mastery over the earth.
Earth Mastery (Ex) An earth elemental gains a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls if both it and its foe are touching the ground. If an opponent is airborne or waterborne, the elemental takes a –4 penalty on attack and damage rolls. These modifiers apply to bull rush and overrun maneuvers, whether the elemental is initiating or resisting these kinds of attacks.

Ashtoret attacks admirably, but her assumptions are accurate.

Merida already made a check, but anyone else is welcome to attempt a Knowledge (planes) check to learn about your earthen foe.

Knowledge (planes)(DC 10):
Elementals can be tough to destroy.
Elemental Traits Elementals are immune to bleed, paralysis, An elemental is a being composed entirely from one or more of the four classical elements—air, earth, fire, or water—or the less common element called aether.

An elemental has the following features:

Immune to bleed, paralysis, poison, sleep, and stunning.

Not subject to critical hits or flanking. Does not take precision damage, such as extra damage from sneak attack.

Elementals do not breathe, eat, or sleep.

The elemental's skin proves resistent to both blade and bolt.

The healing was applied prior to the last blow.

I was also thinking of using Arcane Bond on this turn. I'm also upset that I had so few spells in the book - perhaps if there were more, then there would be something against the elementals... So, GM, how high is the ceiling in that area? If the ceiling is at least 20 feet, then I will cast a fireball. If less then MM.

Fireball: 5d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 1, 5, 5) = 18 - DC18 R

There is no ceiling here

COMBAT OVER

I knew you guys could do it!

Destiny | Guardian's Covenant (Table 2) | On the Trail of History

With the walking landslide quelled, the court yard becomes quite. The battle stirred up some of the rusted, iron flakes that dusted the ground around a series of thick gates.

Perception (DC 20):
You spot a sample of black, flaky lazurite on the remains of the elemental’s back.

Within the keep’s yard, four derro corpses surround an insectile quadruped. Countless barbed crossbow bolts penetrate the strange beast’s hide, and where its head should be, thick ichors moisten the ground around two separated feathered antennae.

If you loot the derro corpses:
You gain the following bounty: four suits of leather armor, four short swords, four repeating light crossbows, and 40 poisoned bolts.

What next, Pathfinders?

well...was waiting patiently..aka unconcious...so for healing, i'll have someone use my wand to heal Theron...and Menudo can carry it...that way at least he cal heal freely in combat...and switching back to me regular armour...can't risk that again...if i go down, this party could be boned...no offense guys...

2 off...close enough

When Theron wakes up and has time to process the fight he looks at the others.

I appreciate the though about not leaving me...but I don't want you guys getting hurt trying to save my hide. It means a lot...but if I find out your fell because you wne t after me, I'll find you in the afterlife and kick your butt...understand? he says with a smile.

perc: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

The crossbows might make foe a decent back up...Kit...what is that poison on these...any idea?

Oooooh ... that thing packed quite a punch. I feel like I've gone ten rounds with an orc bruiser. And Theron, friends don't leave friends hanging. It's the Code of the Streets ... at least it was in the gang I ran with.

She too allows her wand to be used to heal everyone up - if they burn all the charges on it ... so be it. That's what it's there for.

I don't usually do poison Theron. It's against my principles. But it's probably the same stuff we've encountered the other time we were fighting derro.

Ashtoret, who was already thinking about retreating and calling for help, lowers her eyes in embarrassment. I have a healing wand too. Please use it - I've used yours so much before.
