Leveling notes for Zothan

Class Feat: Scroll Thaumaturgy - allows Zothan to activate scrolls of any magical tradition, using his thaumaturge class DC for the scroll's DC.

Skill Feat: Intimidating Glare - lets Zothan use demoralize without a verbal component and removes the language barrier penalty.

Free Archetype: Duelist Dedication - gives Quick Draw as a free feat to help Zothan's action-hungry fighting style.

Zothan is a bit of a dandy, so he wouldn't scoff at some fancy clothes. But he's also interested in the +1 studded leather armor. Did we ever decide who gets that? If he gets the armor, he'll let someone else take the clothes and vice versa.

Korox went with blessed one to enhance his healing abilities. Another question... (I know I'm full of them).

Korox took Versatile Font feat which lets him channel both harm and heal. Does this need to be prayed for every morning when he focuses... ie (3) heal and (1) harm for his font... or does he choose when he casts it?


Current Map

He has to prepare each Font slot with what he wants to cast. So 3-1 or 2-2 or 4-0 with daily prep.

Also everyone don't forget all attack rolls and DCs go up one every level.

I’m considering going with the Dandy archetype instead of Duelist. Both grant access to the Tut-tut feat, which seems tailormade for a whip-wielding intimidation specialist like Zothan.

Dandy is much more social focused, which seems to fit this particular AP well. And both archetypes fit Zothan’s character.

Thoughts are welcome.


Current Map

The first book is fairly combat-light, though other books may not be, and even book 1 has its share of combat. I think Dandy is a very interesting archetype, and I think Duelist is just a solid one with lots of flexibility when the fights do happen.

I would have to think on Tut-Tut, as it is uncommon, and a Firebrand feat, and they have, as far as I can tell, no presence in Highhelm.

That's not to say that it's a hard no for a feat like that. It's more of how to find a way for it to narratively make sense to get access to someone who could teach it.

On a side note, I'm still amazed -in a good way - at how good you all rolled in the fight. The leeches had a cover bonus to AC inside the crab, and none of you even missed.

Unfortuntely, due to real-life events, I have been struggling to keep up (and my posts have suffered even when I have managed to be online).

As a result, it makes most sense for me to leave the party. I have really enjoyed my limited time being part of the adventure and appreciate the opportunity.

@Lia: Thanks for the feedback. I’m not married to Tut-tut, but I really like the flavor. I’m not too familiar with the Firebrands (and currently struggling to suppress my urge to buy another sourcebook), but from what little I’ve read on the Wiki, Zothan would be attracted to the flashy-showy faction of that group. And they are listed as having members all over Golarion. Zothan’s background includes plenty of travels, so he could easily have come into contact with them.

Regarding the archetype, I’m leaning more towards Dandy, since many of the Duelist feats require a free hand and Zothan will almost always be wielding an implement or esoterica.

I’m fine with letting Korox use the +1 armor, but didn’t he also get an offer of a fancy armor from the Burntown job? Just so we don’t overlook that.

As to the medium/heavy armor, I believe Korox offered it to Dyrm, since Korox is a Dex-based character and the armor would slow him down. Am I remembering that right?

But the +1 studded leather might actually be better in Zothan's hands, since he's also Dex-based but more likely to be in the front line. Just a thought!

True, but Zothan is also a very social cat and would certainly be able to put the clothes to good use. I’m happy with either.

Sorry for my delay. I'm still trying to figure out the free archtype rules and what would fit Dyrm best. Though I know I don't have to pick NOW I still feel I should so not to be the weak link. I maybe reading the rules wrong on free archtypes, but I’m not sure Dyrm meets the qualifications to say get the Ranger archetype (Lacking a wisdom of 14)

Dyrm is a gent and a new comer, so might be hesitant to take up armor he hadn't earned, but he's also a warrior so I'm sure he could be talked into it. ;)

I leave studded leather distribution to others.

Oh, and I noticed that I already have fine clothes, which I bought during character creation (seems Zothan was a bit of a dandy right from the start. So it would make sense for someone else to get a wardrobe update.

@Dyrm have you had the chance to look at Lost Omens: Highhelm yet? There is an archetype in there that's great for a dwarf fighter, and a classic to boot: the Stalwart Defender! Pretty cool conversion from 1e, I think, and actually increases its utility over the old prestige class. (Used to be you couldn't move at all when in the Defensive Stance, but with the archetype it just lowers your movement instead of nixing it entirely.)

@Dyrm: The heavy armor reward can go to you, as that seems to be the consensus of the group. You can choose any metal heavy armor, and let me know what type it is, and I'll let you know when it's delivered.

The group needs to decide who will get both the +1 studded leather and the fancy explorers armor. In the latter case, I will also let you know when it's delivered. Note that there is a reason why some of the rewards are functional dress armor.

Once I know everyone is leveled up, or tomorrow at the latest, I'll get us moving again.

As noted in my IC-post, my vote is the +1 studded leather for Zothan and the fancy clothes for Korox or Jaxi.

Korox can't imagine any event where the fancy clothing would benefit him... but though not helpless in social situations at least he could look good during his social blunders... but he puts the cloting away for potential use when it is delivered.

We're all gathered at an inn for the two weeks leading up to the festival. Yesterday, we split our efforts. Batsu, Kapra, and Jax all went to the Gauntlet, where the Blackmoon thieves' guild tests applicants, to search for a missing kobold. They found the hapless fellow stuck in the twisting tunnels of the Gauntlet and helped him finish his test.

Meanwhile, Korox, Kilain, and Zathan worked Elga's forge and knocked out a few pieces for her, but Kilain then got called away and Dyrm showed up to help out as fire weasels (I think?) got loose in the area and they had to chase 'em down and wrangle them up! An alchemy shop was almost lost in the chaos, but they managed to save it.

Today, we went to a crab farm and helped them deal with some invasive (and alarmingly-sized) leeches that were feeding on their prize crab, Lady Shimmersnip. The party took out the leeches with nary a scratch on Her Ladyship!

We still have some other rumors that we have yet to follow up on:

1. Some merchants have come into town with firearms for sale, and are offering people basic training on how to use them, in addition to having pieces for sale.

2. Some fool got himself conked good jumping off a waterfall. Apparently it's a favorite of local youth to prove how brave they are; it's popular enough that there are now clerics regularly stationed there to tend to (m)any injuries. Anyone who braves the falls might just earn a reputation for derring-do.

3. There are some knights from Lastwall that recently arrived. No word on why they're here, but at least one of our number has expressed interest in meeting with them to chat.

That’s an excellent summary. Dyrm didn’t join until after we were done rounding up the Pyre Ferrets, but otherwise spot on.

As for joining the group, Zothan just announced a gather information round, so he’s basically going around town telling everyone how awesome we are. That could be a good opening for someone looking for work or some way to pass time before the festival.

Other options could be Ria, the gnome curator of Clan Tolorr or a connection to some of the NPC’s we have already helped, like the blacksmith Elga from Burntown or the kobold who got trapped trying to join the thieves guild.

1. You have investigated the Dongun Hold merchant rumors. You can revisit them to purchase items, or for training, but you've already investigated the rumor.

2. I guess I still haven't explained Diomira's Drop well enough. I'll try to do a better job should you investigate the lead.

3. As I said Saturday when Knab first asked, I'll integrate him in when we're pushing forward again, which will be in a few minutes.

4. The leather will be going to Zothan, the plate to Dyrm, and the clothes to Korox. I'll let you know when the latter two arrive.

The Bulwark trait of full plate might be worth considering...

The armor covers you so completely that it provides benefits against some damaging effects. On Reflex saves to avoid a damaging effect, such as a fireball, you add a +3 modifier instead of your Dexterity modifier.
