Dr. Tavan Zandhi |
Dr. Zandhi concentrates on guiding his blue bell squox to dash across the gap.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Somewhat surprised that it worked, the blue bell squox wearing the experimental medical gauntlet teleports across the gap. Smiling, the squox says, "This is surprisingly enjoyable!"
Katrina Scintilla |
Katrina selects lavender for her sqoux which, incidentally, is the same colour as her mermaid tail.
Seems easy enough she says as she reads the instructions and the tutorial notes. I wonder if I can fit my jump jets onto the squox ... and can my sqoux breathe water. The manual suggests that's possible.
She invokes the Dash command.
acrobatics: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (20) + 26 = 46
Benoit Battlestar |
Benoit is finds his new body quite disgusting.
"Bloody skittermanders! I'd rather have me beard shorn right off and used as a wig for a bald dwarven woman than to be made into a skittermander."
Still, he attempts to dash forward.
Computers: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (3) + 23 = 26
I assume drones are included in the simulation also.
Xin-Da-Rik |
Xin-Da-Rik takes some time to give his squox a blood-red shade of fur. Then he tries to control the body of this creature, although it is clear that virtual reality is something new for him and he manages with difficulty.
Athletics: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (2) + 22 = 24
DM Kludde |
Are we high tier?
Good point. 11-12-12-13-13-14 puts you at exactly 12.5, making it your choice whether to low or high tier. Please let me know which is your preference.
Benoit finds his drone listed in his inventory. Nobody seems to be having any trouble clearing the obstacle (Still need a roll to Dash from Neroo - you can also jump (DC 15 Athletics) or fly across) thus far, and with a happy chime, a tick appears next to 'Dash'
---
On the other side of the chasm, a five-foot square of sand changes texture to dirt and it looks like there’s something buried underneath the surface.

[X] Open journal
[X] Dash

Katrina Scintilla |
Katrina-squox wanders over and starts digging.
I am a squox and I'm digging a hole ... Diggy diggy hole, diggy diggy hole .....

She spends a ResolvePoint to make it work.
Neroo from Absalom Idol |

Sqox! she also changes her sqox skin to a tri colored hue, purple, white and pink.
Benoit Battlestar |
"Dig, dig, she says, I'm too old for this s@#$."
Computers: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (8) + 23 = 31
High tier please, Benoit needs the extra credits to continue to maintain his arsenal.
Dr. Tavan Zandhi |
The blue bell squox moves over to the dirt and begins to dig
Physical Science: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (5) + 26 = 31
The squox looks much more relaxed than Dr. Zandhi did in the real world.
I'm ok with either low or high tier. I have a slight preference towards high, since that's the tier my character is in, but I understand that it's sometimes frustrating to play up - I've been there all too often. I vote that the players with the lower level characters should decide!
DM Kludde |
Going to stick with high unless that current sentiment dramatically reverses
One by one, the adventurers dig into the group, uncovering a strange seed which is added to their inventory with a label(<--- A mysterious seed. What could it grow?)

"Ahh a seed! I wonder..." he puts in on the ground and tries to water it from his watering can.
Looking around he wonders where his "bed" is.
Benoit Battlestar |
Do our drones have to do these skill challenges also?
DM Kludde |
The challenges are one per player. If your drone can help you, you can use it, but the success counts against you. The drone is part of your inventory and moves with you.
Xin-Da-Rik is the last player to receive a tick mark next to 'Dig' in his journal, as the heap of dirt expands into a wide zone of rolling hills.
Meanwhile, to the north, the ocean rushes forward, until only a 20-foot stretch of sand remains between the ocean and the hills.
The disembodied narrator remarks: If only that was fresh water...
With a ding, a tin watering can full of water spawns into each player's inventory.
After watering the plants, a tortoiseshell covered in moss and the size of a small building appears between the beach and field. A floating arrow appears over the shell, alongside the words “rest in your bed to save your game!”
Inside the shell is a color-coordinated bamboo mat for each squox avatar, which additional arrows point to. After spending a full round there, the game announces “You have saved your game. In the future, you can exit the game after you save.”

Reward: Access Tortoiseshell Beach
---
----
The letters 'Tortoiseshell beach' briefly appear and disappear.
Outside the picturesque tortoiseshell home, an idyllic beach scene features the salt-crusted smell of the ocean, the songs of chirping birds, and the feeling of sand shifting underfoot.
Across the water, a small island holds a palm tree. To the south, sand gives way to earth and grass fields. Amid these fields is a freestanding arch, curtained with vines.
A new quest has appeared in the journal called 'Explore'.

As he walks up to the beach, he notices the currents in the water can be quite treacherous, and there is a strong wind.
Atheltics to swim, acrobatics check if you have the means to fly
Katrina Scintilla |
Katrina-squox, after resting, decides to go for a swim. She is also interested to see if this avatar will breathe water. May as well try for the island.
athletics: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (3) + 22 = 25
Hopefully the avatar also has the Swimming Mastery feat.
DM Kludde |
Speaking of avatars: I've generated some and added them to the map. Just let me know if you prefer left or right, and I'll make a token
Compucast |
Compucast eyes up the archway covered in vines, but as the others are making ways toward the island, he follows them.
Activating his force-soles he walks just above the waves and over toward the palmtree. As the wind starts to buffer him, he reluncantly drops down into the waves and starts to swim.
athletics: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (12) + 16 = 28
"I wonder if we can plant this?" he says, picking up the blossum.
I'm assuming that island is just a shade too far to use the dash ability to get to?
Dr. Tavan Zandhi |
Right, I like the blue coat. So we have to make an acrobatics check if we want to fly to the island?
Dr. Zandhi looks around before exploring.
Perception: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (11) + 22 = 33
Benoit Battlestar |
Benoit gets onto the riding saddle on TEC-9's back, and the combat drone lifts off the ground, propelled by its jetpack.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
Left please.
DM Kludde |
Katrina manages to reach the island easily, and notices that she can indeed breathe underwater. Quite a feat for a little lavender-colored squox!
Compucast peers out, wondering how far a Dash action might take him - just far enough to get his ankles wet. Either way, he manages to get across swimming.
Yes, acrobatics if you want to fly (and have the ability to do so)
Once on the island the pyrple flower can be picked with ease, and grows back immediately for another player to pick. The flower is immediately transfered to the player's inventory as 'Restobloom'
The flower has restorative properties, and would help restore 1 resolve point.
At this point, you can also make a(n additional) Medicine or Profession(vidgamer) check

The sun and the gentle slapping of the water on the shore must be getting to him because he dozes off and begins to snore loudly.
Katrina Scintilla |
Katrina-squox swims to shore and coughs out the water in her lungs.
Needs more detail down there she comments. But I guess the designers weren't planning on aquatic squoxes.
She shakes herself to removes most of the water then checks her inventory for a towel. Every cool frood should know where their towel is she quips.
One roll in the long grass later she trots off towards the arch. She also looks around for the other squoxes wondering who is who. Maybe that's why she keeps talking to herself.
Dr. Tavan Zandhi |
Every cool frood should know where their towel is she quips.
Dr. Zandhi's blue squox chuckles at Katrina's comment.
DM Kludde |
Benoit stays on the island while Dr Zandhi, Compucast and Katrina move back to the mainland.
Compucast moves to the flower patch, and his journal lights up with 'Grow your first plant!'. With another 'ding' an 'Mysterious Seed' is added to Compucasts inventory. The helper text helps pointing out the obvious: You can plant seeds in the ground! Watering plants help them grow!
Katrina moves out to the vine arch, but before she gets there, Dr. Tavan spots something dangerous in the arch and warns the Lavender Squox. Upon closer inspection, there's a dangerous snaring plant hidden in the arch.

She retreats to a spot where she can plant that mysterious seed then waters it. This had better not be a plant called Audrey
Dr. Tavan Zandhi |
Dr. Zandhi attempts to deactivate the tendrils
Life Science: 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (9) + 29 = 38
He will then plant and water the seed.
DM Kludde |
Compucast put a seed in the ground, and as he water it, it sprouts a tiny little leaf. Katrina and Dr Tavan follow suit, and the plant grows a little larger every time. The journal doesn't chime with a completed objective, and a little callout encourages the players to 'Keep watering! A little more should do it!'
Benoit has another look around, but sees nothing more of note. When Dr Tavan deactivates the nasty tendrils, the journal dings with a message [i]'Discover the Hill Zone!'[i]

Compucast |

"How do we rest again? I'm sure it said a rest fills out watering cans."
Or is there a stream or pond we might also use?
DM Kludde |
No, just the sea with salty water. When you rest in the tortoiseshell house you save and refill your watering can, which only takes a full action
