Continuing on through the door you find a short hallway that has smooth walls of worked stone with a door at either end, though the door at the far end is closed. The floor is tiled with large, square stone tiles.

Tain barely notices something strange about the square closest to the northern door, as though the floor tile were a little loose, and suspects that it might be trapped.
Please position your characters on the map where you would like them. Anyone trying to disarm the trap will need to be next to it and make a Thievery check.

Goxomas moves up to where Tain indicated. Takes a swig of wine, gets out his thieves' tools, and attempts to disarm the trap: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Celosia stands back and watches Goxomas, ready to cast a spell if anything leaps out.

Celosia amuses herself, casting dancing lights into various shapes as she waits for the healing to happen.
I think the amurren also needs a little healing, but I can't do it.

![]() |

With guidance from Perrik, Goxomas is able to successfully disable the trap in the hallway that would have dropped rocks on the party.
Taking a break Ultima tends to Mikhail’s wounds making him as good as new.
Assuming the group is spending time treating wounds on Goxmass just post the check and result, I’ll go ahead and post the next room exploration.
After a bit of healing the group continues on opening the next door. The door to this chamber silently glides open to reveal a long room. Two stone statues of priests stand in the corners along one side of the room, facing a towering statue of a man holding out both of his hands, palms up. In front of this statue is a stone altar holding nine golden coins. A voice booms out from the statue. “In my hands I judge the value of all wealth, raising up whichever is greater. One of these coins is a deception. Find it using only two judgments and receive my blessing.”
All of the coins look identical and they all weigh exactly the same, but the fake coin is worth less than the others. When the heroes place coins in the statue’s hands, it will raise the hand that has a higher value. For example, if the heroes put four coins in each hand and the right hand contains the fake, the statue will raise the left hand.
.
There's a good chance some of you players have faced this puzzle before (perhaps outside of Pathfinder). Please give a chance for those who haven't faced it to do it on their own, but acknowledge you're deferring so I can differentiate between "people haven't checked the thread" from "people are just holding back." If everyone has seen the puzzle before, I'll just call out a success and move on.

Tain Hekkanen |

Tain’s lips curl slightly as he nods at Perrik’s comment.
”Abadar. A god of wealth. While poor folk starve. I’ll have nothing to do with gods.”
Tain seems anxious to leave the chamber.

Goxomas |

"Thanks, Mikhail. Now, gimme the coins."
Looking at the coins in his paws/hands, Goxomas considers what to do. He takes a long drink of wine.
"If I had three, and one of them was worth less, then I could put one on the left and one on the right. If those were the same, then the one of lesser worth would be the one I hadn't measured. If they were different, then I would know which one was of lesser worth. I can do the same with multiples. "
Now he considers how to find out if he can narrow it down to only three coins.
"I should use the same method to narrow it down. I'll put three on the left and three on the right. If they are the same, then the different coin is in the pile of three that I hadn't put in a hand. Else, the different coin is in the pile of three coins not raised."
"Then, since I only would have three, I already know how to determine which coin I want"
I'll let others try and figure this out for themselves. If no one else does, then Goxomas will implement his method.

Mikhail bandages Gox’s wounds during the break. The Amurren feels as good as new now.
Looking over the puzzle the group quickly recognizes it as a shrine with a test by Abadar.
Goxomas puzzles through the logic figuring out which coin is fake. Upon his success, the real coins fall to the floor for the heroes to take and the phony coin turns to lead. In addition, one of the doors to the left swings open giving the heroes access to Abadar’s treasures.
This small chamber contains an old wooden chest emblazoned with the symbol of a key. Behind the chest is a massive contraption of gears and pulleys that looks like the inner workings of some unseen device. You notice a lever protruding from the back of the chest.
Although the room is dark when the heroes first enter, they can see tiny shafts of light coming from the wall on the north side.

Tain watches in growing wonder as Goxomas “passes the test”. The fighter remains on the outside of the revealed chamber, peering in and nodding to Celosia.
Huh. Alligators. I *knew* they were down here!

Ultima realizes that this mechanism controls a trap hidden in the next Area though from here you can’t tell precisely how the trap is triggered or what it does. The lever is currently set to the “disarmed” position. You can easily move the lever into the “active” position, the trap in Area.

Perrik finds a lot of coins and Mikhail finds a scroll of magic missile.
Having spent some time looking around the treasure room the group prepares themselves to push on to the next room and confront the kobolds. Mikhail’s sickness condition passes.
The door opens with a creak, revealing a massive chamber that looks like an audience hall. On the far side, a broad set of stairs leads up to where a throne might once have been. Pillars support the high ceiling, and the ruined tatters of once-decorative banners still hang from them. A decorative tile pattern centered in the middle of the room shows through the grim coating on the floor.
Three Kobolds stand guard on the stairs leading up from the hall and a fourth stands near the back of the raised dias near a set of stairs leading further down into the caves. Hearing the door creak open the Kobolds are ready to fight.
The Purple Kobold reacts quickly yelling to the others ” Kill the intruders!” then spends his time setting something on the floor to the left of him.
Remember the group has activated a trap hidden somewhere in this audience hall!
