I haven't seen anything about critical failures on attack rolls. Saves and skill checks are another matter entirely....

Celosia flings a stone missing the lucky skeleton.

Ultima continues to shock the well-grounded and resistant skeleton. It partially dodges the arc and resistest the rest of the electricity.

The Yellow Skeletons continue to live by avoiding two of Tain’s powerful sword strikes.

Goxomax stumbles and strikes the Skeleton smashing it into pieces with his first blow ending its unnatural life.

Fumbles - Critical failures for most attacks are the same as a failure. For some attacks like Trip, a Critical failure does have an effect. There are some reactions that can trigger if a foe critically misses you.

After the dust settles you have time to look around the room, besides the magic torch that looks like fire, but emits no heat and can’t be extinguished you find a polished shield carved to look like a roaring lion.

No the shield is not magical. It functions as a normal shield but it is a work of art easily worth 5gp.

Perrik tsks as he examines the wounds. "I'm afraid we'll have to wait to treat those, unless you want me or Mikhail to use more of our magic cures."

Would taking the torch and the shield count as looting a tomb for the purpose of Perrik's and Mikhail's anathemas?

Tain is more of a wolf-guy, so he wouldn’t want to wield the shield, let alone damage it….

Tain frowns. He has impressed himself with the masterful slaying of the zombie, but a bit let down by subsequent failures.

If only he could….just….be. Be…something other than elated or deflated. Like…be…wounded. That’s a start. He smiles to Perrik,

I’m not really au fait with casters or their available resources, so I’m not sure what to say…

2- It would probably be a day before the Tam could convenience someone to send a rescue mission.
3- In PF2 adventures can go about 16 hours before running into fatigue issues.
4- In this adventure, you're free to exit and return to the dungeon as you wish. Just the vague threat of whatever is down there getting worse over time, Tam getting impatient, and your reputation as adventures suffering.

Celosia shrugs, but looks at the dark all around rather sadly. "As long as we can get out every couple of days, I'm fine with resting down here." She does, however, sit with as many people between her and the darkness as she can manage.

After dispatching the skeletons and zombies the group takes about an hour's break having a picnic of sorts using the stone sarcophagus as a table.

After the break, the group moves back up the tunnel past the broken barricade and moves deeper into the cave. To the left over the top of a 10ft ledge, the group spots a door down a side passage.

Everyone except for Celosia easily climbs up the ledge, Celosia has to the lifted up.

The ancient wooden door creaks open on rusty hinges, revealing a ruined chamber. Mold and rot stain every surface. On the far side of the room is a stone statue of a giant squid, its tentacles reaching toward an altar in the center of the chamber. The scum covers almost everything, but it hasn’t touched the silver bowl sitting atop the stone altar. The water in the bowl is perfectly clear.

Perrik and Mikhail both identify the shrine as one dedicated to Gozreh, the god of nature and the fury of the ocean.

If anyone casts detect magic in this chamber, they sense the presence of magic.

drink from the bowl?:
Anyone who drinks from the bowl regains 1d8 Hit Points, but they must roll a DC 20 Fortitude save.

If they fail,

Spoiler:
they feel the ocean’s waves crash through their stomach, which makes them feel sick for the next hour. They take a –1 status penalty to all d20 rolls, their Armor Class, and spell DCs until the hour has passed.

If they succeed at the Fortitude save

, they feel the power of the ocean surge through them. In the next hour, they can call upon the ocean’s might to fortify themself against harm. This power is a reaction that the hero can use when hit by a critical hit on an attack. This ability turns the critical success into an ordinary success (so the attack deals normal damage instead of double damage).

Each hero can get the bowl’s benefits once per day

Tain’s eyes google a little at the thought of this place being under Otari, he’s probably walked above this very spot hundreds of times.

”If we disturb the bowl…do you think the squid will animate and attack us while the temple collapses and crashes down all around us?” Tain asks no-one in particular.

”What? I’ve heard….tales. Could happen…” he trails off.

”Ok then, how about the water. Is it safe to drink? Or would that be sacrilegious? And just who…tends to this shrine?” he says, turning while looking up and around.

Gozreh - is a dualistic deity of nature, a god of the storm and sky, and also a goddess of the wave and surf. Born of the ocean's fury and the wind's wrath, Gozreh is a fickle deity.

The shrines of Gozreh often contain some sort of pool or open water at the heart. They often appear in out-of-the-way places and are typically built using only slightly worked local materials, such as driftwood and unquarried stone.

The water in the silver bowl appears pure and clean.

During the break, Perrik treats Tain’s wounds fully healing the fighter.

Ultima sniffs the water from the silver bowl. It smells like pure water.

Not inclined to drink the water from a shrine of Gozreh, the group begins to return to the main passage to continue exploring. You note, the silver bowl could be sold for about 5 gold.

Mikhail says to Gox, "It appears to be clean, even though it is down in these caves." As he says this, Mikhail scoops a mouthful of the water and feels a bit less fatigued from the battles, but also feels a little bit off.

Mikhail takes a sip of the water in the bowl. While you can see some of his wounds heal, the fickle nature of Gozreh leaves him feeling sickened for a bit.

Leaving the forgotten shrine, the group moves back to the main tunnel and continues to explore. Finding a large room that looks like it was once a storeroom for a building above. On the far side, you can make out what might have been a cage or cell at some point, but it is now full of crates and barrels. Five lizardlike creatures the size of human children are clustered around the door to the cell, trying to pry it open.

@GM I would have liked the opportunity for our party to attempt to communicate with the kobolds rather than ambush them - they are essentially minding their own business, ransacking something, as kobolds probably do when we came upon them. Apart from a long dead kobold we haven’t fought any kobolds before, and are unlikely to assume they are the “menace under Otari” perhaps?

Anyway, Goomas is wrecking face so I guess it is all too late for that!

Tain clears his throat to get the attention of the small reptilian creatures they turn around snarling ready to attack. You get the impression they are hostile.

Taking a swig, Gox stumbles forward and strikes at the creature once with a fist dropping it.

Following the Cat-Monk, Tain moves and swings at the southernmost creature missing twice.

The Warpriest raises his shield as he steps into battle striking the reptilian in black. The creature cries out in pain but is still ready to fight back.

Celosia moves forward waving her plant arms around causing an electric arc to hit the purple and orange reptilians. electricity: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 The purple one seems to take more damage than the Orange creature, but they are both still standing.

The purple reptilian readies his spear and strides around Goxomas to the north striking him from a flank. Hitting the wobbly monk once

The Yellow reptilian hisses as he draws a spear and circles to the south around Mikhail to attack from a flank, but misses.

The Orange creature draws a spear and strikes twice at Gox with a flank missing both times. AoO opening to Gox, if he as any way to take advantage of it.

Ultima shambles forward drawing a sickle which she swipes at the Purple creature, but misses.

Gox strikes out with a blur of fists critically hitting the purple kobold once with a killing blow. His reaming attacks miss the small creatures.

Mikhail prays to Pharasma for the bane of his foes and raises his shield for protection. Black seems affected.

There isn’t much on the kobolds personally just dried fish, leather armor, and three spears each. The dried fish were clearly stolen from the fishery they were involved in the thefts, but more fish are missing which can be explained by these kobolds. However, there is a Locked storage area in this Abandoned storeroom.

If someone has the skill and tools they can try to pick the locked cell (DC 15 Thievery check) or you can try to force open the door (DC 25 Athletics skill check)

Goxomas works on opening the locked cell and eventually succeeds in picking the lock using improvised tools. (Note, In order to pick locks or disable some traps you must have Thieves tools. I’m allowing the use of improvised shotty tools for now.)

Tain is standing guard over the two wounded party members for now.

Inside the cell is a pile of old crates and a few barrels. While most of these contain long-spoiled food and stained cloth, one of them contains a small pile of treasure: 200 sp, a gold ring worth 5 gp, and a beautiful +1 shortsword—a magic weapon! (This weapon increases the attack bonus by 1)

Who would like to use the shortsword, and does anyone want to do anything else before continuing on through the door?
