Is there a narrative reason that Kzem is unarmed? I can't think of many scenarios where he would travel with his shield on his back- especially travelling toward a castle with anticipated combat

Nope, I think I just forgot that your shield was a primary weapon.

Thorn fires a warning shot at the leopard, and then shoves it aside.

Kzem pulls out a bit of catnip, which always annoys cats, and moves to flank. Kzem, the leopard was Shoved by Thorn, so I'm revising its location, and then moving you into the same position that you narratively moved to. Kzem smacks the leopard on the back of the head. Adding 3 weakness for personal antithesis

Grimmylow moves up and opens his mouth to speak. But instead of words, a cone of fire comes out. Burning Hands is remastered to Breathe Fire.

GM- Are you good with me applying remaster rules to Buzz when it is released. The bomb refills may help his situation of low amount of bombs.

Buzz lets out a shrill shriek as the leopard leaps out of nowhere. Swooping down lower he circles loudmouth over the leopard and sends a couple darts down into the cat's back. Loudmouth's long neck begins to work back and forth as it starts to form spittle and regurgitate last night carcass.

The dwarf laughs at Beggar So's off-target shuriken.

The dwarf is about to dodge Buzz's bomb, but at the very last second, his fear takes over. He second guesses himself, and freezes. The poison bomb splashes on him. Hit frightened AC!

The acid flask falls at his feet, but still splashes.

Buzz: I'm pretty sure you should have moderate bombs, so I'm going to add 1d6 poison and 1 acid splash. This brings the dwarf down.

On searching the area, the heroes find the body of a wiry human man stashed in some reeds between this open area and the stream. This man is the cook from the Inkleholtz lumber camp; he had been sent to Otari to ask for help, but the dwarf intercepted him on the road and crushed his skull with his maul.

The portcullis that opens the door is operated by means of a pull chain on the other side, 10 feet away from the portcullis. The heroes have several options to open this portcullis. They might pull on the chain at a distance (such as with a longspear or long branch), which requires a Thievery check to pull the chain correctly, or they might lift up the portcullis with a Strength check. They can also simply scale the castle’s 15-foot wall, which requires an Athletics check to Climb. Other options can also work, so be as creative or boring as you want to be.

Also, healing. Treat yo'selves. Remember that wounded needs 10 minutes AFTER full hp to clear.

I would wait for full healing

After basking in the healing light of Sarenrae (or the sharp needles of Grimmy's sewing kit) Kzem looks about the gate and portcullis.

"Should be easy enough for me... once everyone is ready that is"

Waiting for the obligatory nod of the rest of the adventurers, Kzem simply flicks his wrist and a mirror-like illusion of him forms 15 feet away on the other side of the portcullis. A moment passes and the "old" Kzem shatters leaving the Orc inside the gate and standing next to the chain, which he begins to pull.

Do I need any particular check if I am standing next to the chain?

No, you don't need any particular check, but things will happen, so let's square away healing, and then have everyone set up where they want to be, and then we'll resolve what happens.

That heals him up entirely and gets the others well on their way.

As So sews himself, Grimmylow gets to work on Kzem.

Then, he examines So and knows that he's going to need a poultice, but that it won't be helpful just yet, so he wanders around aimlessly for a while before putting together the proper concoction from the mud and reeds in the water.

Which is enough to heal So up fully.

Then, he gets into position and gives Kzem The Nod.

Kzem appears inside the keep, about to pull the lever to open the gate, when the door to the keep bursts open. Another dwarf stands there, similar in appearance to the others, but not exactly identical.

"Well done, orc. I usually use mage hand, myself. But then again, this is my home, so I know every nook and cranny."

Thorn fires a shot, but it ricochets off of the dwarf's armor, and a second shot hits the door frame. "You're going to pay for that," the dwarf growls.

Grimmylow casts two spells, and Buzz flies up and over the wall.

The dwarf raises his arms, and a sickly green hand appears and grabs at Kzem.
