Kzem |
"We HAVE been on the road all day... perhaps Grimmy has a good point", Kzem observes absentmindedly- distracted by the belt. "Looks well made, do you think it goes well with my cloak?"
I wouldn't mind the belt, though So has equal claim to it
Thorn Goldenoak |
"Let's bring the mushroom back and go to sleep, I wouldn't mind to rest, we could also take some mushroom for dinner, I know decent scrambled eggs with mushroom that I could make"
GM Watery Soup |
Magiloy thanks the heroes for bringing back the mushrooms and is completely incensed at the suggestion that they be used to make soup. "Soup? SOUP?!" The mushrooms are rare copper-cap mushrooms, making soup with them is something that a royal cook might do.
She also gives Fillruk a tongue-lashing about wandering into caves alone, but agrees to give him a job finding more mushrooms for her if this new recipe of hers works.
She brewed three doses of capsacin tonic while you were gone.
The heroes, weary from a full day of doing other peoples' biddings, call it a night.
Bookkeeping: I'll need to know who invests in the belt of good health the next morning, and if you want, you can buy Common items in town. I'll try to get the loot tracker updated.
Beggar So |
I can take the belt :)
GM Watery Soup |
I suggest Kzem and Beggar So each roll d20s, higher roll gets it.
Beggar So |
Belt: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Would have been funny if I'd rolled a 1 as well! :)
Beggar So puts on the belt and grins like an idiot, seeing that it's the first piece of new clothing (magical or otherwise) he's had in a long time!
Grimmylow |
Grimmylow takes the rat and strokes it as though it actually is a fluffy, cuddly pet.
"I'm rich. Rich!" he mutters to himself, apparently not knowing the difference between pyrite and gold.
"At least until I donate you to Sarenrae."
GM Watery Soup |
After stopping in town for breakfast and maybe a few purchases, the group heads out to the Giant’s Wheel, the massive lumber wheel at the edge of Otari where the lumber companies have their wood milled.
The second package is addressed to the lumber foreman, Klorte Hengus, an immense, muscular half-orc with short, blunt tusks.
"YES, I'M KLORTE," the man shouts as the heroes locate him. Although the mill is relatively quiet at the time, Klorte has become used to shouting to make himself heard above the flume’s sometimes deafening noise. "OH! THE PACKAGE! YES, YES, THAT'S MINE."
Klorte pulls out 5 gp, the price for the package delivery, and rips the package open with his bare hands. A set of decorative pins falls to the ground, and Klorte laughs. He explains that he used to be a gladiator, and these pins represent different victories in Absalom’s great gladiatorial coliseum, the Irorium. An old friend collected these as trophies from people Klorte defeated long ago.
He holds up one of the pins, alternating his gaze between it and Beggar So.
"HAVE WE FOUGHT TOGETHER?" he asks.
(He'll offer you a quest either way.)
Thorn Goldenoak |
Thorn picks up one of the pins and look at it, he wonders what Beggar would answer. He moves his gun a bit on his shoulder, a habit that he has whenever he is a bit unease.
Beggar So |
Beggar So looks a bit confused
"Fought? I doubt it. This is my first time in this town"
Beggar So |
"No idea. I don't even know him..."
GM Watery Soup |
Fought? I doubt it. This is my first time in this town"
"MUST HAVE TAKEN ONE TOO MANY BLOWS TO THE HEAD," Klorte explains.
"Nice to meet you! Those are very nice pins!"
"pstt. What are pins? Does he have these pins for everyone?"
Klorte may have difficulty speaking a normal volume, but he doesn't seem to have any difficulting hearing at a normal volume.
"YOU LIKE 'EM? I'LL TELL YOU WHAT - YOU CAN HAVE ONE, IF YOU DO ME A FAVOR. I'VE NOTICED SOME SCORCHING ALONG THE FLUME, AND I SUSPECT ARSON. STAKE OUT THE FLUME TONIGHT, AND FIND OUT WHAT'S GOING ON. IF YOU UNCOVER THE SOURCE OF THE SABOTAGE AND PUT A STOP TO IT, YOU CAN HAVE ONE OF MY VICTORY PINS."
He pulls out a box, and inside, are dozens of pins that he's won. He digs around for a gold one that detects as magical. This pin will function as a runestone containing a +1 striking weapon rune.
Assuming you accept, see Slide 1. Your characters are welcome to make whatever preparations they’d like to stake out the flume. The water rushes too quickly for anyone in the flume to avoid being swept downstream, but several trees and bushes near the flume make good hiding places. I'll also request that you describe your light situation - you'll either have to announce your presence with lighting, or have to find a way to see in dim light or the dark, depending on when your watch is.
Thorn Goldenoak |
Thorn hides behind the tree, he uses cut branches to cover his position and hide his gun. He makes sure that his barrel will not reflect light, he prepares his gunpowder and bullets for whatever will not fall from one shot.
He lies there anxious, certain that any moment something would come ...
any moment ...
Stealth +8, Darkvision
Grimmylow |
Grimmylow plops himself down a little ways back in the bushes. He tries to find some foliage that comes close to matching his skin tone.
After a little while of sitting quiet, he starts to hum softly to himself, then mutter a few verses of a hymn. Before he knows it, he's singing loudly.
He does so for a verse or two before his eyes widen and he claps both hands over his mouth.
He continues to sit like that for the rest of his watch.

It's during Beggar So's watch that a distant flame appears. Although he can't see in the dark, he can see it. Two flaming dogs and a humanoid approach, sneaking quietly.
They don't appear to have noticed the heroes yet.
Most of the party is asleep (prone, unarmed) and unarmored. Anyone who is awake (currently only Beggar So) can Sneak to an adjacent square and wake someone up quietly as an Interact action. Alternatively, anyone who is awake can shout an alarm, waking everyone (but definitely giving your position away).

Grimmylow's time from before he was an upright servant of Sarenrae serves him well, so when he's woken up, he doesn't immediately make any noise, his oversized eyes just flash open.

"Quiet! Someone's coming!" he says, carefully shaking the tiny man awake.
