I actually asked the distance question prior to the onset of combat so that I could gauge a pre-emptive strike. At this point, he is going to fly window to window waking everyone up. If he can see through the window, he uses TK to shake people's beds (and if they are heavy sleepers, he will tip them out of their beds.

"uuh." Davod murmured, then immediately woke up. The suli was momentarily unaware of his surrounds. The thief was not used to such finery. Davod hear abrupt movement in the house. Danger sense kicking in, Davod began to jump out of bed and quickly get dressed and geared up.

Davod will be ready for Round 3 actions.

Davod leaves his bedroom to find the fight.The rogue sees three bandits on the opposite side of the hall. The bandits see the suli. Davod smiles an gives a rogue's salute with one of his sickles.
"Gentlemen. I'd leave now if I were you", the rogue smiled.

Doubly cloaked by darkness and her invisibility spell, Tiesa conjures another illusion into the mix. With a pinch of wax, a precise turn of her fingers, and a single word of power, she intones another spell … but the arcane words persist even after she falls silent. Instead, they meld into a darkly ominous chant, one that promises a powerful summoning if not stopped. An incomprehensible tongue etches runes in sound and fury, a crescendo interspersed with evil laughter.

With a ruse now in place to draw attention away from herself, the invisible wizard sneaks over into a corner beside the door, ready to escape from her room should the opportunity present itself.

Cast Ghost Sound (mage chanting a summoning ritual, growing louder and louder) to emanate from beside her pillow on the bed. Will save DC 17 to disbelieve. Then quietly move to one side of the door.


Yes Grim you would wake at Vivi's warsong. So you may act in Round 2.

Round 3
One of the rogues moved into Tiesa's room. As the other two chose to follow Davod's words and opened the door then moved away.

Jolted awake by Varvara's war song, Grim blinked muzzily. Then realizing they were under attack, he rolled out of his bed, slapped his helm on and picked up Abadar's Gavel.

Grim took a moment to Use a Lay on Hands to ignite the Power of Faith and he started glowing with holy light (30'r.), then charge through the door into the hallway brandishing his monstrous earth-breaker.
"Where is the enemy?" He barked, the naked glowing dwarf turning around looking for the enemy forces.

The ninja stands in a loose stance and begins to approach Vivi.

Dyjn standing in the doorway you see the black ninja just about to jump down. In the courtyard you do see the bleeding body of Salim and two more ninjas. Also someone opens the door on the first floor and begin to come up the stairs. The first three are viable options for your blast.

After Davod, Tiesa, and Vivi act the ninja casually approaches Vivi holding onto his sword but the point was aimed at the floor.

The ninja that Dyjn shot jumps down and dashes after the other one down the alley.

The other two ninjas in the courtyard each hold one weapon and try to clean out their eyes with a free hand. They have been blasted with glittergold and are acting blind.

She quickly moves forward, seeing the ninja walk towards Vivi, she continues out of the door. Looking around she states, "Aukan! You have some guests to greet!" She then hops over the guard rail and flies down before moving to Salim. She then urgently yells, "Nima I need your healing!" With that Nima teleports to Alexandria's side.

Round 4

As the unseen chanting continues, a quiet voice materializes out of the empty air, whispering into Vivi’s ear. “Don’t worry, it’s me, Tiesa” the invisible half-orc reassures the oracle as she squeezes past and exits the room. “I’ll pay for touching later,” she adds in jest, referring to the mystic abyssal writing adorning the blonde woman’s tabard, before laying a coarse hand on Vivi’s back. A sudden surge of magical energy imbues the oracle with supernatural bravery and morale. "Try to keep him alive for questioning though."

Move out of the room, then cast Heroism on Vivi.

Take him alive? I am a Gorrumite, if he yields he will live, if he doesnt I cut him in two with my Adamantine murder sword. Will be annoying if he yields, I would be honor bound to provide reasonable treatment due to Gorrums code.

Raising an eyebrow and talking merrily,
Vivi tries her hand at greatswordbased reverse psychology, while also informing the ninja of a) her adamantine murder sword and b) the presence of an invisible ally of vivi in the room.

AC is currently just 13 because not wearing armor Vivi likely took 4 damage

The bleeding ninja before Vivi takes a step back pulls a potion and downs the contents of the vial disappearing from your sight.

“Looks like the idiot chooses death over surrender,” Tiesa quips as the ninja turns invisible. With her capable companions at hand, and their enemy clearly choosing flight, she switches her focus from defense to offense. A meowing conversation ensues between her and her familiar Qita.

The margay cat pokes its head out from under the bed, sniffs the air, then pads its way towards the enemy’s scent. As soon as Qita pinpoints the foe’s location, he stops and caterwauls. The half-orc immediately translates. “He‘s right in front of Qita.” After giving Vivi a chance to attack, the invisible wizard positions herself squarely in the middle of the doorway, blocking the ninja’s only exit.

Mechanics/OOC:
---Tiesa talks, then delays to after Vivi (but before the ninja). She’ll use Standard Defense to boost her AC & CMD by 4 and stand in the doorway to block the exit.
---Qita will use Scent to find the ninja: a Move Action to determine the direction of the ninja, then a Standard Action to move in that direction until it’s next to him. Free Action to communicate the ninja’s location to Tiesa, who relays it to everyone else.

Alexandria walks forward and grows to large size holding her glaive in two hands ready to swing. Davod, the walkway seems rather congested... Aukan asks, "You got something ranged as it looks we are going toe to toe... or you could jump down!"

Grim steps in and swings his gavel at the invisible threat, likely the square in front of Vivi. Dyjn what are you doing?!

The toughs likely will back out the way they came, unless someone jumps down in front of them. Though the tough with the guisarme swings at Aukan. Aukan dodges the attack again, forgot AC had changed. He just smiles at the fool!

For established and new players also write how you spent the coming year however you want, be it traveling the world, researching personal secrets, or helping to rebuild the village of Kelmarane. After the defeat of the Kulldis tribe, gnolls haven’t been a big problem in the Kelmarane region, although travelers and merchants are still wise to bring along plenty of guards to defend against the inevitable trouble with tiny pockets of the bestial humanoids.

Some possible actons:

Administration: Work with Kelmarane’s administration to gain the personal notice of the Pactmasters of Katapesh.

Business: In places other than Kelmarane or Kelmarane itself. Name a few agents or employees you gain during this time.

Church of Sarenrae: Help refine the grounds of the church and likely the cathedral outside of Kelmarane. Name a powerful NPC ally who remains in the church. Receive the rank of Abbot-Protector.

Crime: Befriend some associates, be it smugglers, the harpy Undrella, or another agent.

Explore Personal Mystery:

Moldspeaker: You search out to gain the power of the Moldspeaker.

Patrol Kelmarane Hinterlands/Rebuild.

Personal Romance:

Research: You focus on learning about your enemy and the lore associated with him. You learn a lot about Jhavhul, his genie armies, and his personality

Travel: Worldly travels leave you a popular figure among Kelmarane’s citizens.

Haleen is around the town of Kelmarane somewhere... I don't think anyone has interacted with her much.

For the last few months you have found a house to renovate or at least repair. You could build the alter in your new house or take another building and change it into a shrine.

You have helped a lot at the monastery with its restitution and working on repairs for the town one building at a time. Many citizens of Kelmarane know you by name and they appreciate the light that you show.

Salim will spend time doing the following, in order of priority.
- Administration: he would work to see if he gain some favors and a little bit of influence.
- Crime: Befriend some associates, mainly smugglers as they know more of what’s going on than others.
- Explore Personal Mystery: Look into what happened during his “tutelage”
- Establish a home in Kelmarane to live in, until he eventually returns to Katapesh.

--Get Ragnars axe send to Absalom for burial. There is a liasion there which will do things furhter, as well as an account of his kills, status and deeds as known by her.

--Productively make some minor money and good will by healing people.

--Get a home in return

--Search out wizardry types and probably meet Tiesa because of it, in order to get some insight of what the heck is going on with the scroll.

--Check out the local crime scene, burnish her credentials, and inform established criminal authorities that she is open for business, healing wise, but expects her properties to be respected in turn.

Downtime priorities for Azaris:

-- Find somewhere to live. Nothing fancy or expensive, as he does not expect to stay long, but permanent enough for him to not have to seek out a new place for his bedroll each night. He prefers to have his own quarters rather than sleep in a common room, but something like a vacant room in a shared house is ok.

-- Find a source of income. Legally if possible, but he's not above a bit of crime if the opportunity presents itself and the risk/reward ratio seems to be in his favor. He'll introduce himself to Undrella as a minimum and keep an eye out for other options. No manual labor, though.

-- Research. He'll look for anything linked with efreeti and the plane of fire to try and figure out what sort of secrets the efreet he encountered in the hills was after.

@Grimoin Al’Thorrak: Fyi, for Tiesa's background I wrote that he saved her from buying false pesh at the Nightstalls some years ago, and that she was impressed by how fairly he treated her. If this doesn't fit in with your PC, please let me know and I'll edit/delete it as you wish.

In addition to the goals above, Azaris would also take an interest in all individals of extraordinary abilities in Kelmarane, including other PCs. He won’t nessecarily introduce himself, but he’d make mental notes about who’s who, what their skills and abilities are and their general motivations and alligiances.

I really like the rich background, but am good to move on to the main plot.

4 - Who do you share the strange coin with?

5 - K history check, 12 checks for the last 3 months. Who are you including in your search?

6 - The community is happy with this choice and support you in defending them in the most basic needs. Food, Water, Cleaning, lodging, etc.

@GM Wolf: For downtime, I've played it as if Tiesa has just arrived in town and will be here for only a few days (until the corsair leaves). But I think she'd love to be a drug dealer aka transport a huge load of pesh to Katapesh to sell for a profit (and to keep some of the product for herself). There's no way she could afford that much though so she'd need to find a sponsor/investors in a short time frame for such a venture. Does that sound like something she could do?

During the six months downtime...

In order of priority...

1. Grim will find a place to live.
He picks a vacant small apartment on the ground floor or first level underground and fixes it up, as he is modest doesn't need a lot of space.

2. Grim will Establish a shrine to Abadar.
He will pick a kiosk in the Battle Market to set up and consecrate as a shrine to Abadar there (with the help of an actual priest), where people can come to him in his capacity to settle contract disputes and mediating business litigation.
He will also volunteer to help patrol the Battle Market for thieves and pickpockets.

3. Grim will help out with the Cathedral.
He will help out with clearing the Cathedral of hazardous monsters and traps. After that he will volunteer to help rebuild it to its previous glory; beginning with structural, then the religious features.

4. Help rebuild the town.
He will help with basic manual labor with rebuilding projects as needed.

5. Try to trace out the bequest of the strange coin he received. He'll try showing it to the bartender for one, then the local priest.

6. Rediscover the property his ancestors held in this region.

2. Shrine of Abadar in the battlemarket! Sounds great!
3. Most of the monsters that dwelt in there had been taken care of, though anything that appears you are quickly notified to take care of it. Many of the acolytes and builders know you well. You also get to know three important NPCs: a cleric of Nethys named Zastoran, a high priest of Saranrae named Jazmine Dellworth, and her servant Sala who seems to be a monk and priest.
4. Yup!
5. The bartender doesn't know anything of the coin. The cleric of Nethys, Zastoran tells you he has seen this symbol... recently! He takes it and returns to the cathedral's library searching through the scrolls, and papers on the table. At last he lifts up the page and it reveals that only one of the bloodline can open the mines once more!
6. The town hall doesn't have many records for the first few months, though once a pactmaster associate and clerks arrive the place gets whipped into shape. They also find many stashed records. Looking up your given name Al'Thorrak they would hmmm and haaa as they looked through the records finding several scrolls and books that might help you know more. The clerks take their information to their associate who breaks the news to you privately, "Ah yes... Grimoin Al'Thorrak. It seems that your ancestors or at least kin did have two deeds. One is a small Manor to the North just on the edge of the town. Which has been vacant for the past 10 years. Also there is message of a mine though there is no record of it offically. The other deed is to the tower that is even further North, a watch tower used in the past to watch for dangers coming from Pale Mountain. They are both yours as you have been and excellent citizen with excellent recommendations. Should you find the mine, we would love to appreciate it and give you the proper paperwork so you may get the mine working again. This business would be a boon to Kelmarane. Another export besides Pesh and slaves. Though the latter has not been very fruitful or profitable." This information is not new to you as in the second week you found the given record of the manor for yourself. The sixth week you found some ilegible documents that were talking about a mine, the Al'Thorrack manor, and a tower. Too bad it was so smudged, most of it was unreadable. The seventh week is when the Pactmaster associate and clerks showed up and when you checked with them on the nineth week they reported the above findings.
Beyond learning the myth of your coin there isn't much else to learn in the cathedral as a few hours of searching has proven fruitless. Zastoran tells you, "I will keep and eye out for other references and will bring them to you when I find them."

Favors from local administration and or merchants; I’m not as familiar with Kelmarane but the goal being to get some sort of influence that may be useable in Katapesh or useable to to get influence in Katapesh.

As for information on his backstory it is mostly in Katapesh, though I had at start his last old friend from earlier; the merchant Bastam mention he might learn a little information in Kelmarane. This could prove to be false or true. Considering that spent time under domination and has trouble recalling it, it isn’t impossible he simply came out there for a simple task, or possibly even more.

and just to confirm ... Tiesa is doing this in spite of knowing the risks ... right? Knowing that we aren't in a big city, knowing that we aren't surrounded by potential casters, knowing that we're in the middle of the sky with an incredibly small pool of possible thought detectors ... right?
