Out of character posts and other discussion may take place here. Feel free to dot in the Gameplay as well, but please delete your dot post. I will be doing some detailed character review as we get ready to begin.
Feel free to introduce yourself, or chat about what is to come. If there are ties or connections between PCs you can establish some of that here now. Not required, surely.
Welcome, and I hope you enjoy your stay!

Hello everyone.
I'm new to these forums, is there really no way to have a custom avatar for your characters?

Hi everyone! So happy we're getting a chance to run this module together. This is my first P2 game - I have played Starfinder so am somewhat familiar with Paizo's base system.
I was saddened too, to find out there are no custom avatars for the game posts. I found a really awesome one that fit Daedra well, I thought. Oh well...
Daesra is a native of Korvosa - at least as much as an orphan can claim to be. She doesn't remember much of her childhood before the orphanage, and is only newly out into the city proper after being on the sisterhood's grounds for the past 14-15 years. There were a few trips in town with her sisters to pick up goods for the smithy, but those were always supervised.
Camber Seedsplit |
Camber's also a Korvosa native, and has lived most of his life at the docks. I could imagine that he could be familiar with any other native Korvosan (or not, it's a big city).
He's a bit older than most starting adventurers, and a family man, but hard times makes for hard people and he's not about to give up on things.
Daesra Darkshield |
Daedra does know/speak halfling - The cook at the orphanage was a halfling and she was always made sure everyone got a full meal, regardless of any punishment/restrictions. She had a way of getting at least a little something for everyone to eat, and under her care every meal seemed a feast!

Welcome everyone. Continue discussing interactions or characters as you see fit. When we get to combat maps, you could possibly use a different icon if you like, but it has to be similar in size and scope (head and shoulder shot etc) to make it work.
I will be doing some character review which will likely take a couple of days given my weekday availability. I will post questions or concerns here, and everyone can benefit from learning from it -- not intended to pick on anyone.
That said, I'll dig into at least one tonight.
DM DoctorEvil |
So the first character I did deep dive on was Camber Seedsplit. I just see two things and they are optional.
1) You can add a known language for each point you put in INT. At +2 you should get 2 additional. I see you chose Varisian, and you get Halfling free for ancestry reasons. You can choose one more starting language, if you want.
2) I am not charging you gold for comfortable living. You can have the 2gp back to buy more items or just hold onto. Or you can choose to not have it at all, if its part of Camber's motivation.
The rest all looks good to me. Well done!
DM DoctorEvil |
I also did the review of Daesra Darkshield using the provided Pathbuilder link. That's a pretty solid tool, but i think I have at least one build question.
Since Daesra's INT is +1, she should get either Acrobatics/Athletics and 4 additional skills points, for a total of 5. It seems you have only spent 4. You can add one more trained skill if you want.
Just be aware of a couple more things:
1) you are trained in Medicine, but you can't Treat Wounds until you have a Healer's Kit (5gp).
2) You don't have any ranged attack options at present, except throwing a dagger or 2.
3)The Refugee background allows you to be trained in Lore from the place you came FROM, but if Daesra doesn't remember that, then I will allow it to be Korvosa Lore instead if you want. If you have another Lore you want to select, let's discuss. Lore Grey Maiden might also work...
Figure most of these are because you are strapped for cash at 0.1gp remaining, but thought I'd point them out.
Morganne |
I will have a healer's kit that you'll be able to burrow if need be, so you shouldn't worry too much especially as we are just starting out.
DM DoctorEvil |
Thanks! I'll replace the Comfortable Living with a Repair Kit, then.
As for the language, I'm not sure what's more thematically appropriate: Dwarf or Shoanti.
Updated the repair kit. Either language will be useful in this campaign, you will have interactions with both kinds of speakers. Think about Camber's background, and where he would've learned such a language, and maybe that will help choose.
Daesra Darkshield |

I do like the Pathbuilder tool, it seems very flexible and has a built-in dice roller too. However, it is only showing that number of skills but the math doesn't align with the build. I'll Rebuild her and see if that changes the actual skill totals. The additional Trained skill of Lore: Gray Maidens seems a good option for her.
1) Weapons and armor was a higher priority to start, and I figured she could only smuggle only so much out when she left the compound. Same for # 2).3) For the Refugee background (options there matched the Love Lost background best) I was thinking the Settlement listed on the sheet would be Korvosa as that's where she grew up. She was only 4 when she entered the orphanage, and that's why she doesn't remember clearly if she was actually born here or not.
Also, I noticed that the Repair Kit includes a portable anvil, but no mention is made for a smithing hammer. Should that be included, or is the hammer a separate purchase? It is only 1sp, but when you have only three...
DM DoctorEvil |
Daesra, I have your changes. Let's assume the repair kit is self-contained, so all you need is included, even the small hammer. Not worth quibbling about, and for 2/15 of your money, it ought to meet your needs.
I think you are technically good to go. If you want to make some practice dice rolls you can do that here.
Format is (dice=Axe Strike)1d8+4(/dice) except you use the [] brackets instead of parenthses. Give it a try. If done right it should look like this
Axe Strike: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Same here. I’m a late 40’s guy brought up on having the actual books for every game I’ve played! Trying to just read online or PDFs just aren’t the same to me.

LMAO, it must be a sign of age, I'm in my early 40s and I have to have the hard copy as well. The digital versions are nice in a pinch for reference, but not for learning the ropes.
Same here, I'm old-school as well and much prefer having a hard copy of rulebooks. I stare at a monitor enough for my day job, and having a nice break from that when I read is much more relaxing.

Perhaps it was a relative (cousin, sister, etc.) who worked at the orphanage and a link as to how we would know each other. Of course, it will be 10 years since Camber would have met/seen Daedre, so there could be some RP in being re-introduced. :)

Here we go, a trial turn -
Daesra locks her gaze upon the Evil-Doer and unleashes a furious series of strikes with her longsword!Action#1: Longsword Strike: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Action#2: Exacting Strike Longsword Strike: 1d20 + 9 - 5 ⇒ (11) + 9 - 5 = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Action#3: If #2 hits, apply an additional -5 To Hit Longsword Strike: 1d20 + 9 - 5 ⇒ (16) + 9 - 5 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
How does that look?
Rienas |
Rienas has also been in the city for as far back as he has memories he can recall but, having grown up relitively poor and in the seedier part of town, I'm not sure he would have had anything to do with he orphanage or the docks. If you two don't tie your story details together maybe the docks can be made to work...?

Since Daesra's also a blacksmith, there's another possible connection with Camber. Although pottery is his main side hustle, as a stevedore he can also make deliveries of materials to folks in town, so he could be the guy who delivers your raw iron.

Camber has Labor, Guild, Korvosa, and Underworld lores, so he's used to living among the underclasses. I'd definitely call him "working class" in modern parlance. The big thing is that despite his lowly status, he's well connected in the community, offering enough of an excuse for him to know anyone in town among the downtrodden.
Even if the three characters aren't yet "friends hanging out together" we could easily be "friendly acquaintances in this city together."
Me'mori |
While there will have to be "slower" times during the game, I'm considering leading with Laijiri like Dwayne Johnson's character Driver in "Faster". I'm wanting to explore how far it can go, since the quote "Rage is one hell of an anesthetic." was also one of my favorite lines from the Mass Effect series.
A lot of the gear that he purchased could have been gotten from Camber (wouldn't happen to have a Maul, would you?), and undoubtedly a lot of the fights he participated in could most likely have been on the docks, as the fight that Lamm spiked was the one that would have taken the champion into the next tier of the city.
I'm aiming for a lot of "beat you with your own henchman" shenanigans, as he may have left the ring, but he certainly hasn't left the fight in his head.
Morganne |
Sweet.
Is there a way to set it up so I get a notification, like an email or something when people post in this thread? Or do I just have to keep coming back every couple hours or so.
Me'mori |
Lajiri, I am looking for your detailed crunch, but can't seem to find it. I see your profile, but it seems to be blank, and when I looked back at the crunch, it more of a PF1 build.
Can you link Pathbuilder, or get your crunch in the profile so I can review?
Ah! Apologies! I forgot to swap the crunch over from the recruitment, but I do also need to learn how to link it. I'll have it up later today.

Looked also at Nininox Amberscale. Just a few questions.
1) You barely spent any money? I show you with 13.3gp left. You can buy more things before we start if you want.
2) The wellspring gnome heritage allows you to chose a cantrip of some magic tradition. You chose Divine, it appears, but I didn't see anywhere which cantrip you chose to have from that tradition. Maybe I missed it?
Otherwise, I think our gnome caster is ready for primetime.

Good find on the money, GM. For the longest time I couldn’t find out how much good we got to start. I’ll do a bit more shopping.
I don’t think I actually added the cantrip. Let me look and I’ll that to the sheet.
Thanks for the review!

One question for anyone familiar with the system: are there prices listed for playing card, dice, or other games of chance? I think Nox would like to carry some of those items with him.
Thanks!

"Need some iron ore? I got a guy..." lol
I like that connection ("friendly acquaintances in this city together") - he could be the one who pointed her towards the meeting point in town and helped her get set up in town after she left the GM compound.Morganne |

Reviewed the build for Rienas and have some questions:
1) Can you copy or link his crunch build into the profile with the pic? I see it in the recruitment thread, but it be helpful to have in the profile if possible.
2) I didn't see any spells in the familiar spell holder. Get 10 cantrips and 5 1st level. Then need to indicate which are prepared for the day in question.
3) Witches have 3 Master abilities, but I didn't see any listed in the profile. What are you choosing?
4) Need a build for the familiar itself.
5) Please tell me how I should be pronouncing that name. RY-ee-nas or Ree-nas or something else?
If you need help sorting these things out, let's discuss.

I got and reviewed the pathbuilder link. Looks like you have 3 skill points to still spend, so make sure you use those.
looks like you bought the barbarian pack and the knuckle duster But not anything else. Not sure where your money went. I show you with 10.7gp left. Might have missed something however.

o problem, I'll get on that today after work. I'll load up my profile here and did you want the link for my build in pathbuilder as well?
Rienas is pronounced "Rye - nas", the emphasis is on "Rye". (No intentional reference to alchahol)
