Now that the character reviews are complete (please make sure to tell me when you have updated), the next step is starting character hooks for the Gameplay.

I will be writing intros for each of you to get you started based on your backstory and interactions with Gaedren Lamm. It might take a couple of days for me to get them all done, but feel free to respond and act as you wish after that.

Getting really close to the game starting, so be patient just a bit longer. If you have not tagged in on Gameplay tab yet, you may wish to, so you'll know when posts go up.

I’ve updated Nox’s sheet with my divine cantrip and went shopping!

Share Pathbuilder 2e Character
Here is the build link for Rienas. To view this build you need to open it on an android device with version 182+ Pathbuilder 2e installed. https://pathbuilder2e.com/launch.html?build=321293

Please have a look, it should be all you're looking for. Once approved I'll load it into my Paizo profile.

I have all the changes, thanks!

Rienas, it appears that the free version of Pathbuilder doesn't support familiars. As a witch you need a familiar as that's where your spells are stored (like a wizard's spell book). You are still short some spells in the familiar as you can have 10 cantrips and 5 1st level to choose from, even if you can only prep 5 and 2 per day.

Also, there are master abilities that you and familiar share. You can start with 3 of them, but they won't be in Pathbuilder it appears.

Do you have access to the APG, so you can pick some? I will add them to my build and can share a profile from hero lab if you want.

Male Half-Elf Witch (1) / PERC +3 / AC 16 / HP 16 / FORT +5 / REF +6 / WILL +5

I have the full version of path builder and didn't think about the free version not showing everything. I do have all my spells picked, 10 and 5, and I have a familiar setup with all the appropriate abilities as well. I'll get to work on entering my character details in Paizo and have it ready for you as soon as possible. Sorry for holding things up here.

Male Half-Elf Witch (1) / PERC +3 / AC 16 / HP 16 / FORT +5 / REF +6 / WILL +5

I updated the profile for Rienas, should be good to go now, thanks for your patience. I didn't list anything for deity or alignment yet, still fine-tuning those.....

Male Half-Elf Witch (1) / PERC +3 / AC 16 / HP 16 / FORT +5 / REF +6 / WILL +5

Deity and alignment finalized, background edited and added to the profile now as well.

Rienas wrote:

Seeing this in the profile was most helpful. I think you are good to go now that i can see more of the details. Thanks!

I will start tonight posting individual hooks into the adventure. They will be in spoilers, since only the PC will know what is happening but you may reply and act without spoilers, as you wish.

I will not get them all written tonight, so they will likely stagger in, but keep an eye open for your hook, and feel free to respond whenever it is available.

Oh and please send a post that details your remaining cash on hand. I will set up a link to the Loot Tracker I like to use, and explain some things about that as well once everyone has shown their starting cash.

Please recall/understand there are a number of "secret checks" in PF2e that you may be used to rolling yourself in PF1. Under this system, the GM makes those rolls, and you don't automatically know the die roll result. They will be rolled in spoilers, and I trust you won't peek when not supposed to. If you want to attempt a secret check (Recall Knowledge, Gather Information, Hide, Sneak, Identify Magic and Seek are just some examples) then let me know and share the appropriate modifier, including situational things like luck etc. (Honestly, secret checks are one of my favorite part about PF2, but that's probably a GM perspective).

Also, many players get confused about the difference between Skills and Actions. Example, Diplomacy is a skill, but it is not an action. You can use Diplomacy to attempt actions like Gather Information or Make and Impression or Request. Please list the Action you are attempting when making a roll. I am linking a cheat sheet about actions/skills etc on the top margin for a bit, so you get the hang of it.

Any question about rules, build, gameplay, system or anything else while we are getting started?

Male Twilight Halfling Thief Rogue 1 [HP 16/16 | AC 17 | Per +6 | F+5 R+8 W+6]

I still have 1 gp 5 sp (1.5 gp) leftover.

Male Half-Elf Witch (1) / PERC +3 / AC 16 / HP 16 / FORT +5 / REF +6 / WILL +5

I have 5gp, 8sp and 3cp left on hand.

I fully agree about loving the secret rolls, I've been playing 2e for a while now and I find it adds a more realistic feel to doing things. When a sneaky rogue 'sneaks', she will always put her best effort into it but there is no way to know if your best was good enough or not. It does great ro emulate 'real life'.

Male Gnome Genie Sorcerer 1 | HP 11/16 | AC 15 | Perception +3 | F+5, R+5, W+5 | 3 Harrow points | Lowlight vision

I’ve got 4 gold and 5 silver left. I did buy a couple of 3 gold piece minor potions. If that is not allowed at character creation, let me know and I’ll add the gold back to my sheet and delete those two potions.

Male Half-Elf Witch (1) / PERC +3 / AC 16 / HP 16 / FORT +5 / REF +6 / WILL +5

GM DE, if you dont mind, how did you add the loot tracker and action list to the available options on the main title page? I've got a few places that I could make good use of that trick.

On the first tab of the campaign, titled Campaign Info, there is an ability to edit this campaign. In the "short description" you can place things that end up in the top margin. Only the GM can access this function.

I may use that tab for other items later on as well, but I will prompt you with what is left there.

And having magic or alchemical items from starting cash is fine, if you can afford them.

I have 1 gold and 4 silver.

Female Human Fighter 1 | AC 18 | HP 0/19 | F +6 | R +6 | W +4 | Per +6

Wow, everyone else is so flush with cash...
I have a meager 3 Silver Shields to my name. Will have to get a job soon!
(I had picked up a P1 copy of Guide to Korvosa for the city map {I like maps :) } - it lists details like the names of coins. Please let me know if skimming it over to get familiar with the districts is cool.)

copper pieces = pinch (singular and plural)
silver pieces = Silver Shields
gold pieces = Gold Sails
platinum pieces = Crowns

I was going to make a note of those, to use when chatting.

I will be using those numismatics (means referring to coins) as well in my dialogue. Thanks for sharing with everyone.

Unfortunately, the Super Bowl ate up most of my time this evening to get plot hooks started, so I will get them going tomorrow night instead, but being a native-born Kansan, I can only say Go Chiefs!

More to come soon enough.

The first post is up in Gameplay, so feel free to go check it out. I am posting the plot hooks alphabetically, so Camber was first, followed by Daesra etc.

I will not get them all done today, or perhaps even tomorrow. But feel free to reply once yours is up.

The game is afoot!

Male Twilight Halfling Thief Rogue 1 [HP 16/16 | AC 17 | Per +6 | F+5 R+8 W+6]

I know we're just revving up, but I'm wondering if I should trade out a skill feat. I'm thinking of removing Quick Repair, and taking Cat Fall or Steady Balance instead, given Camber's background in the Shingles. Thoughts?

Male Gnome Genie Sorcerer 1 | HP 11/16 | AC 15 | Perception +3 | F+5, R+5, W+5 | 3 Harrow points | Lowlight vision

My usual advice, Camber, is play whatever you think would make you and your character the happiest. The rest of us will be okay whatever you decide!

Given where we are in the game, that change is acceptable to me. Which is it?

Male Twilight Halfling Thief Rogue 1 [HP 16/16 | AC 17 | Per +6 | F+5 R+8 W+6]

I'll take Steady Balance.

Noted. Go for it

Sorry my friends. I went to the movie tonight (new Ant-Man) instead of doing my homework with you. I will get the other two plot hooks up tomorrow, and we can begin the game in earnest.

If your hook is up (did Morganne and Laijiri last night), you can begin posting as you see fit.

Thanks again for your patience.

All the plot hooks are now set. Feel free to respond and head your characters toward the destination intended. You may roll initiative (use your Perception score) to determine the order of arrival.

Male Gnome Genie Sorcerer 1 | HP 11/16 | AC 15 | Perception +3 | F+5, R+5, W+5 | 3 Harrow points | Lowlight vision

Sorry, the day got away from me. I’ll get my first post up sometime tomorrow.

Also, GM, what info would you like us to list in our character header to keep things easier on you?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

No worries, it ofent happens to me also.

If you can put your AC/saves/current hP/Perception (or other init modifiers) and any current conditions, that'd be most helpful.

Any other info is also good.

Nice hook, I'll have a post up today but I just wanted to confirm, init rolls here or in the gameplay thread?

Rienas wrote:

I will take them either place

Werehare Inquisitive 3/ Seeker 3/ Bard 3

Arrival: 1d20 ⇒ 1

Init: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

just waiting on a roll from Rienas. If I don't see it tomorrow, I will roll his initiative, and get the posting started with arrivals at the cottage at 3 Lancet Street.

Male Half-Elf Witch (1) / PERC +3 / AC 16 / HP 16 / FORT +5 / REF +6 / WILL +5

Arrival (Init): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

The arrival order is obviously Daesra first, followed by Camber. Then Rienas, Nox, Morganne, and Laijiri will be last. Feel free to have your character arrive in that order with post in the Game. You don't have to wait for me to prompt you.

Just waiting on Laijiri to arrive. I sent a PM, and will run that introduction tonight if no word in the interim, just so we can get the introduction started.

The harrowing is done at the start of each chapter of this campaign, you will have additional opportunities to have readings done as the game progresses. Each chapter of the AP is tied to a suit of the Harrow, and each suit is tied to a particular ability score which thematically ties to the chapter itself.

This chapter is tied to Keys and Dexterity. There will be several dex-based encounters, situations, or circumstances in Chapter 1. As part of the Harrowing, your characters may earn one or more Harrow Points, which can be used to modify checks based on the ability score in question, in this case Dexterity.

Chapter One is called "Edge of Anarchy" and during this section you may use any accumulated Harrow Points in the following ways:

Dexterity Rerolls - A PC can spend a Harrow Point to reroll a Reflex save, attack roll modified by Dex, or Dex-based ability or skill check. The PC must abide by the new result, although you could spend another Harrow Point to reroll yet again, if available.

Dodge Bonus - A PC can spend a Harrow Point to gain a +1 dodge bonus to their Armor Class for one encounter (not just one round). They can spend up to 3 Harrow Points per encounter in this manner.

Speed Increase - A PC can spend a Harrow Point to increase his based speed by 10' for one encounter.

Additionally, each card drawn during the Choosing grants the individual PC a +2 bonus on all Dex based checks and a +1 dodge bonus to AC during specific encounters in this Chapter. The GM will notify you when your bonus is triggered, and when it ends.

I will post these instructions in the Campaign Info tab during this chapter, for easy review/reference as the story unfolds.

Harrow Card Choice: 1d9 ⇒ 7

2 people marked this as a favorite.

The Spread of the harrow is keyed to the 9 alignments, Lawful Good at the top and Chaotic Evil in the last spot. All the cards of the Harrow are also keyed to an alignment, so if a card ends up in space equal to its alignment, it is considered extremely important. if it is partially aligned (a LE card in a LN space, for example) it is considered of increased importance. If it shows up in an opposite space (CG card in LE place) either true or partial opposite, it has the opposite meaning.

Also, if the card you drew in the Choosing comes up, that card has a special meaning just for that player.

You can earn Harrow Points, described above, if any of the cards in your suit, Keys, show up in the Spread. You get 1 Harrow Point each in that case; you also get a Harrow Point if your particular Choosing card shows up in the spread. Also, each player who participated in the Choosing (everyone) gets 1 Harrow Point, just for playing.

Anyway, I will draw at least the first column tonight from top to bottom, and see what comes up. Hope you enjoy this feature. If we play to next chapter, there will be another harrowing at that point.

Sorry friends, I have had work events the last two nights, and then had too much to do or stayed on too late to get much posting done.

I will return to regular schedule tomorrow.

New post up, and should be back on regular schedule for a while, sorry for the brief delay.

Make sure you keep track and remember to use your Harrow Points. I did put the "how to" info in the Campaign Info section on the first tab.

The action is now yours.

Male Twilight Halfling Thief Rogue 1 [HP 16/16 | AC 17 | Per +6 | F+5 R+8 W+6]

Can we quickly set up a Harrow Point tracker here? Who's got how many?

Looks like it's...

Camber: 3
Daesra: 4
Laijiri: 3
Morganne: 3
Nininox: 3
Rienas: 3

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Everyone has 3 except Daesra who has 4 to start.

To announce their usage, is the format like:

I'd like to use a Harrow Point for this encounter to boost my AC via Dodge Bonus

Or the Dex reroll in the same post where a Dex check is made??

Yes, or similar. You can call for the Harrow Point to re-roll after the dice are laid, but before you know the outcome of the roll. You ahve to abide by the second results, even if it worse.

There will also be some encounters where I tell you, based on the card selected in the Choosing, you get some DEX-based bonuses this chapter.

Werehare Inquisitive 3/ Seeker 3/ Bard 3

Sooo... Before Laijiri slipsthe talking, is anyone adamantly opposed to the "Enter With Authority" approach?

He's going to have to take some hits(and survive) to real-life that this isn't always the best way to enter. Right now, though, he's seeing red.

The direct approach is all fine and good but I can use my Ghost Sound to try and have someone answer the door, that way you don't have to waste time/effort going through it. You can, instead, go through the guy that opens it.
