5 spots on reserved for Jhaeman

First come first serve 1st Ed PFS

Using block initiative

I have a few possibilities, and can bring any based on APL and party composition. I may need to update some online character sheets.

1) Onjatan Slagson - Level 8 melee that can also do ranged. Not great at skills or talking. Has a shy familiar that's better at skills. Likes: Rock, Araga. Dislikes: Pathfinders that don't follow the Venture-Captains instructions.
2) Granny Cheechatkae - Level 9 with skills and casting. Very at (most) talking, pretty good at knowledges and trapspringing, decent nanny for the young'uns.
3) Athelstan Terrel - Level 11 warrior of Aroden. Shiny armor, holy sword, horse, etc. Good at talking and knowing which side of the holy symbol faces up.
4) Dorei Shiorshta - Level 11 melee with pet. Humble slave of Master. Strong believer in the pecking order. Has a list of things he's bitten in combat or otherwise eaten.

Grand Lodge

dotting for interest..have options in both tiers...

I'm going to play my support paladin, Trokkus (Level 11). Thanks for running Qstor!

Grand Lodge

I have a couple options but would prefer to play Kahwen, a 10th level Unchained Rogue.

Grand Lodge

I have many, and I mean many options. Will see what the party needs for support.

Maybe we could all do something crazy like an all rogue/bard party. Or all spellcasters. All red-heads.

Liberty's Edge

You're welcome Jhaeman! I actually haven't run this one before.

One SPOT left - Looks like high tier!

I'm not seeing many commonalities between Kahwen and Trokkus, never mind whoever the rest of the PCs end up being. "Has a sword" isn't a really strong theme.

Grand Lodge

my options are a rogue/slayer/brawler and a swashbuckler for high tier...or a swashbuckler for low tier....would be funny to have Mykel team up with Kahwen again....but if we need a rogue/trapspringer, I can bring my =01 in..he's handy with a blade and a bow...

It's season 0; Kahwen's +17 is probably fine. If not, and if we need someone less frontline, I could bring Granny - she's got +19 disable device and shaman casting. With aid from Kahwen, that would put our Take10 at 31.

Grand Lodge

so my +29 is overkill then?

grimdog73 wrote:

There's no such thing. I'd be surprised if that kind of modifier was necessary here, though. If you were wanting to use a different PC, I'd imagine it's fairly safe to do so.

This is, of course, just a generalization. Play what you want, or think we need.

Grand Lodge

Room for me?? Level 7 zen archer scout

Grand Lodge

Jory has completed : First steps 1,2,3 and Temple of Empyreal Enlightenment, Rise of Goblin Guild, Frostfur Captives, Way of Kirin, The Blakros Matrimony, Veterans Vault, Among the Gods, Thistletop[3XP], Traitorous Lodge, To Scale the Dragon, Silver Mount, Among the Gods, Ghanett Manor Guantlet, Test of Tar Kuata, Siege of Serpents, Refuge of Time

which I think means he can level to 8, let me check

With six players and season 0, anything over APL 8.5 is going to be high-tier. So assuming that.

I'm currently leaning towards bringing Granny. We've got a melee paladin from Jhaeman, a melee rogue from EbonFist, the two PCs grimdog73 mentioned seem to be melee... me bringing another melee might cause issues, especially on maps intended for 4 PCs. That'll give us some mixed casting and knowledges (however much use they'll get in season 0). Granny is level 9, so out-of-tier, but I'm not terribly worried about that here.

Thoughts?

Grand Lodge

Here's what I can bring (leaving out my melee types):

Bard Archaeologist 8
Inquisitor/Cavalier 9
Spiritualist (and her entourage) 10
Swashbuckler/Mesmerist 8

Grand Lodge

@shaventalz,

Granny looks great! The shaman has a very nice spell list and since this seems like an archaeological expedition, the level of investigator might be helpful.

I’ve run or played almost all of Season 0. They don’t tend to be overly challenging for modern Pathfinder PCs. My advice is not to overthink things and just play whatever PC sounds fun.

I don't really see the Shaman spell list as "good". It doesn't seem to know what it's trying to be, and feels unfocused. That said, it has some healing and some blasting and some buffing and so on, so it can be made to work if you're missing other casters.

Agreed. Season 0 was designed for 4 players running less-powerful 3.5 classes, and also tended to be light on skill challenges. Supposedly there were a few scenarios that were badly-balanced, but those have been retired and forgotten.

"Dearie, something always goes wrong with these expeditions." Granny gives a small smile, shaking her head slightly. "Golems or undead who aren't done using the city, or a rift to the Abyss sitting in the town hall, or something equally bothersome. How have you made it this far in the Pathfinders without realizing that?"

Grand Lodge

If you're bringing in Granny, I should bring Inga & Klaus.

Inga's entourage consists of a couple children that can be unruly at times. Junia is very shy but struggling with controlling her own phantom which causes anxiety issues.

Jeeves is somewhat too enthusiastic about becoming a mighty warrior so he tends to annoy the warriors in the party a bit too often. However, he is quite helpful with assisting warriors of the party with their arms & armor and hauling stuff around in his little wagon.

Inga's Phantom, Klaus the Werewolf, needs a stern talking to once in awhile when his anger overtakes him. And Smörboll... Ugh. He's sooo grumpy at times and complains if nothing goes his way.
Being an Ulfen, he's gonna hate the jungle!

Inga would be more than happy to have a motherly figure like Granny around.

Grand Lodge

If Jory is allowed to tag along, he would love to have a cleric/inquisitor like Sir Ivan to cast continual flame and use his fancy vials on an item for him. (So he can dispel deeper darkness for others, his darkvision works fine)

Jory also carries a wand of mage armor he can't use. Turns out it has 40 charges, so 10 kind strangers could help him with it in the past.

"My, that's quite a group. I met Junia several years back... it must have been 4717. Time flies, doesn't it? I do speak Skald, which might help get Smörboll's attention, but I can't really say until I meet them."

"I can use that wand if you'd like. It would be no trouble at all."

Grand Lodge

And, since there is a wealth of PFS experience.

Jory has been disillusioned with the Grand Lodge since he refused a mission that went against his moral code. When asked to switch, he was told it would cost like 3xlevel to switch in PP, and that made him even more upset with the Grand Lodge. I assume switching factions is still very PP prohibitive.

With a high movement speed Jory has always thought of taking the fast stealth feat, but since stealth in combat never seems to come up, he has never taken it.

That is still the case - see page 32 of the PFS Roleplaying Guild Guide.

However, some very old faction cards have a goal that lets that PC help another PC change factions. Essentially, if you happen to sit at a table with someone from a faction you like that played that PC in Season 6, you might be able to pay 1PP per level to switch. Problem is, that was in 2014, so a lot of those old PCs may have leveled out by now, and not all of the factions had that goal.

What faction(s) were you looking at?

And... bit of a long shot here, but I assume you've played Jory at least once after 2017?

Grand Lodge

Sadly Jory last played Nov 2016.

Silver Crusade would be his wish, but let’s keep him a Grumpy member of Grand Lodge hoping the Lantern Lodge comes back again.

In that case, it looks like you're able to change him to the Concordance of Elements for free (last line of this blog post; haven't found the promised text in any Guide updates.) Not sure if that appeals to Jory or not.

Jory Redcap wrote:

Silver Crusade is one of the factions that has that goal, but sadly Granny joined in Season 7. I've copied the text below, in case you want to ask other Silver Crusaders about it. Maybe Trokkus is old enough? As for the skill requirement, you just leveled up - you could probably grab three ranks now if necessary.

Silver Crusade Season 6:

Sponsor another PC to join your faction. To fulfill this goal, that PC must then join the Silver Crusade by spending only 1
Prestige Point per character level (one-third the normal cost). The PC must have at least 6 XP and at least three ranks in
any combination of the following skills: Diplomacy, Heal, Knowledge (planes), or Knowledge (religion).

Jory Redcap wrote:

And... sorry, but with PF1 development abandoned, the only way Jory has a hope of joining the Lantern Lodge is if he forgets all the skills he's learned and rejoins in PF2. Even that's a long shot.

Grand Lodge

Thanks for the info, looked at the druid faction. Jory will stay Grand Lodge and be grumpy about it, which is maybe better for a dwarf than changing and be happy. Or maybe it is more in his nature.

Statistically, only a little more than 14% of dwarves are grumpy. About the same amount as the ones who could normally be described as "happy."

Interestingly, there's a much higher proportion of dwarven doctors than among other races.

Grand Lodge

I'm still undecided about who to bring. Someone mentioned to bring Ivan. I'll continue to give it some thought.

Grand Lodge

Ivan with continual flame for Jory to use his vials makes the dwarf as happy as a grumpy dwarf can be

How does continual flame benefit/affect your vials?

Liberty's Edge

OK we're full with Jory!

EDIT

Um Ed, I just noticed you bypassed the recruitment thread. Jory's post was before yours so I'm counting him last per strict 1st come 1st serve. Not trying to be a jerk.

In this post, he mentions buying 3 vials of "dzebet" for 600gp. I suspect he's talking about the special material Djezet, vials of which sell for 200gp per. The effect is Heighten Spell in a consumable, which would combo well with continual flame.

However... djezet is not normally available. The chronicle that I suspect he's buying it from has different (more expensive and limited) rules for the material.
If he adventures with someone (like a cleric or inquisitor) with the ability to prepare that as a 3rd-level spell, he can heighten the flame enough to shine through deeper darkness. Not sure if Ivan has the levels for that, though.

EDIT: And now I'm really curious how something like shadow evocation interacts with... well, ANY of this. Illusory light created from shadows that you can disbelieve but works if you don't, with a native spell level of 5?

Grand Lodge

djezet is correct — 3 vials = +3 CL. 5 CL cleric / inquisitor for continual flame and 3 vials

Makes a light Jory can use to defeat deeper darkness for his friends.

Grand Lodge

I thought the vials added to the CL without requiring you to be the higher CL as it would seem to defeat the point.

Would three vials on CL 5 continual flame require CL 5 or CL 8?

Grand Lodge

Continual Flame is a 3rd level spell for inquisitors. Ivan can only cast up to 2nd level spells.

Grand Lodge

No problem — someday it will happen.

Grand Lodge

We have Trokkus, Granny, and Jory so far. Wondering what PCs the others are bringing.

I'm leaning towards bringing Inga.

Kahwen is the PC name EbonFist gave, so presumably that one.

That would make it archer, paladin, rogue, rogue, shaman. Plus you.

Silver Crusade

"Does anyone have any special spell requests?" Granny asks. "I can do up to fourth level Shaman spells."

She then looks to Inga. "I don't seem to have much overlap with you, dear, just a few potential spells that I can drop from my preparation."

Sovereign Court

"Many of my spells are to benefit Klaus. However, I am able to cast a few nice utility spells as well. I hear this is an archaeological expedition. We may need to give that some thought."

Feel free to offer any suggestions for Inga. She's in the market for some magical shoes or boots, among other wearable magic items.

Silver Crusade

"Well, I have a nice cozy campfire packed up from a previous expedition, if we end up staying long."

Granny starts digging through her backpack. "Goodness, I didn't remember how many scrolls I'd stashed in here. I have a shining wayfinder to spot any Evil artifacts, though our Paladin could probably handle that as well."

"Traveler's any-tool for handling the dirt or debris. Chalk, charcoal, parchment, journal, inkpens and ink... I only have 50' of rope and two pitons, if we need to hold something in place, so maybe we should take more of those? "

"I also have a half-dozen sets of earplugs, but I would hope we won't need them on a "simple expedition." Who can say how this will go, though?"

Natharanak seems about to squawk something, but Granny quickly shushes him. "Yes, I know, prophet. It was rhetorical."

"For you two?" Granny looks them up and down. "What about a pair of feather step slippers for Klaus? I don't much care for magical footwear myself, but they might do him some good."

Sovereign Court

I used to really like feather step slippers until they nerfed 'em. I purchase items mainly for Inga. I don't think phantoms can wear items. They supposedly fall to the floor when a phantom is shunted back into the spiritualist's mind. Jeeves does carry a scythe for Klaus if he needs it, though.

I can't find the rules anywhere about whether or not phantoms can wear armor, boots, belts, etc... I'll dig around some more.

Check the phantom's write-up, specifically the Link ability.

Ahh! There it is! Thanks!!!

I did find this, which is quite helpful. Apparently, phantoms can't wear armor.

Since I have the PFS think tank here—
Can you put a 8000gp ion stone with +2 enhancement bonus in wayfinder and resonate it???
