I used to really like feather step slippers until they nerfed 'em. I purchase items mainly for Inga. I don't think phantoms can wear items. They supposedly fall to the floor when a phantom is shunted back into the spiritualist's mind. Jeeves does carry a scythe for Klaus if he needs it, though.
I can't find the rules anywhere about whether or not phantoms can wear armor, boots, belts, etc... I'll dig around some more.
I did find this, which is quite helpful. Apparently, phantoms can't wear armor.
Phantom Guide
My Spiritualist buys all most all his gear for his phantom. It's basically what I would buy if I was playing a monk - amulet of natural armore, bracers of armor. When it looks like trouble is about to happen, he summons her up and she gets decked out.
