I, too, look forward to this game, Kaervek/Merida. Good to be in another game with you. Looks like this is going to be a fun game with a good mix of PCs.
First PbP with this bard. :)

Cornethiir, would you mind dyeing your hair red for the mission? For team unity?

Perfect!
Unfortunately, if Bullwhip tried to match he'd be a better fit for a comedic Starfinder game, IYKWIM.
| DM Carbide |
If Qstor brings Seebonickk (L3 at the moment; may increase to L4 after we finish Overflow Archives), the APL will be at least 3.67, which puts us into Tier 4-5 (not terribly surprising). Merida, are you OK with playing up?
Merida Bowie

I figured as much. Playing up is fine with me.
| DM Carbide |
Playing up is definitely easier on archers.

I don't know nothing about that as this is my first ranged character.
Still, I hope I can help the team with my arrows, even when we're playing up...

Will do so. I have perception as a class skill! :-D

I've been sandbagged with work today[...]
Same here - will try to get a post in tomorrow. Sorry.
| DM Carbide |
I won't be able to get another post up until tonight; not only is my afternoon (GMT -6/CST) a solid mass of meetings from 1 to 5, but I also don't have a copy of the scenario available at work. Will need to do something about that....
Corenthiir

Put the scenario into google drive & you can access it from your phone. I don't own a computer. I use my 3 year old Android phone for everything!
| DM Carbide |
I am old, but I like to see most of the page.
OTOH, I can access Google Drive from work, so I can read it from there. And I also have the full version of Acrobat, so I can extract images from the pdf.

To be clear I as a player, knowing about things like encounter construction and challenge ratings knows we probably shouldn't split up but in reality (and every fantasy I have ever read) it makes sense. ;)
Sylvester Solstar

Splitting up would only make sense if retrieving the items were a trivial affair. Considering the fact that we are likely going to meet resistance it makes more sense to stay and work together.

Hey, GM Carbide, I know Faction Missions were retired long ago but they can still be fun, especially for roleplaying. If possible, can I do the Grand Lodge faction mission if you think it's interesting enough and worth doing?
TIA!

I'm curious--how many PFS scenarios has Bullwhip been on? Of those, how many required splitting the party? Any of them? If not, would the character's lived experience lead him to make that suggestion?
Sylvester Solstar
|
@DM Carbide - I think it is more a function of the player than the character. In a previous game this player's character decided to explore alone as well which split the party in one of the combat encounters. Some people like to blaze their own path and are naturally chaotic in temperament. That is all well and good but PFS punishes harshly such behaviour. Instead optimised by-the-book "on-the-rails" play is strongly rewarded.

I look at the incentives from a different direction. Pretty much anything that makes it harder for a party to complete an adventure in less than four hours is going to be discouraged, particularly as the rest of the party is being adversely affected by one player's actions. The time constraint isn't generally as much of a concern in PbP, though, although there's still a potential issue with finishing during online events like this one.
Speaking of which, where do you want to go first?
Sylvester Solstar
|
Finishing a lot of the PFS adventures in a four hour slot is a definite challenge so I agree with you there. I think that keeping up the tempo in a PbP game is just as important and splitting up the party slows the game down considerably.
In terms of where to go first I think we should start at the Fish Bowl as it is quite close to our current location.

Depends upon what you consider constitutes an adventure. Most of his his hundred plus years have not in fact been spent in any given room or hallway with five other people in armor and backpacks with their pets. ;)
Like most people he might hang out with one or two people for a bit and maybe larger crowds for an couple of hours in his off time, but on the whole he gets dressed, washes up, eats lunch, goes to the bathroom, and finds his socks by himself. He works as a soldier, but even soldiers don't hang out in groups of a half-dozen unless they training, or moving somewhere. In a combat zone they often have to cover one another over spaces that dwarf whole one page dungeon maps. And what sort of dangerous adventures do folks get into in the middle of a bustling town that require anymore than maybe three people? It's not like the group is moving furniture. If ordinary life were so difficult in a village or town everyone would have moved somewhere safer or be dead or in hiding. Part of our job is to blend in, and if we went everywhere together that would really look odd.
"Where are you all going?"
"To the outhouse."
"All of you!?"
"Well, yeah."
Of course this is a game, and whether the characters know it or not they are in a "dungeon" and like those unlucky weekly TV show heroes they seem to run into danger in every episode. It's just one of the points where some simulated reality games (RPG games) can break at least my suspension of disbelief in the setting. In any other world it would make some sense to split up and an run separate errands, (or like on Scooby Doo search for clues) and then meet up when we were finished. Very rarely are six police officers (for example) going to go out on one call together. ;)
Bullwhip is a bit wiser than some so it just made sense to me that he at least suggest it. It might not fit on the rail, but there it is. And after all, if all adventures are is just rolling along a rail then what's really the point of playing them?
Again the point wasn't to do it but to rather in interact with the thread in an in-character manner in such a way that the GM knows that Bullwhip's player hasn't fallen asleep at the virtual table. ;)

After giving it some thought now, I think rerolling my save was a bad idea. If we all run away from the roar, we run away for less than a minute. No big deal. We just come back and take out the bunyips and immune to their howl. *Shrug*
After returning, I could have set up for a countersong versus the final bunyip if it attempted to howl.

You guys can handle them. Their bark is worse than their bite. Also they don't appear to move that quickly on land so simply shoot and move. :)

Corey would love to wear that Bicorne hat, but, it should probably go to Bullwhip to help with acrobatics checks to avoid AoO's through threatened squares.

We are in a large city. You can probably purchase another wand before going to the Calistrian temple.

@Corey - If your character wants to wear the hat then take it for now. It is mostly cosmetic anyways. Or not. :)
In terms of the wand of magic missile I am glad to have been able to make use of all its charges (22). Going forward I really do not see the need for a backup wand when my character will have 19 spell slots available each day at level 6. :)

Ok guys I am guessing that the madam here is not on the friendliest terms with the Aspis. I am going to level with her in return for the item and the chance to get even. :)
Granted it is a bit of a gamble but I think it might work.

Sadly, this fellow is wearing the wrong sort of hat even though he's a pirate.
