GM_NotAngryButUpset |
Sebastien, are you trying to move toward or away from the ghost?
Shemar, you would need to use 2 strides to get into line of sight with the ghost, still use Magic Missile or something else?
Sébastien of The City of a Hund |
Sébastien is trying (unsuccessfully) to Stealth away, while muttering something about ghost being scary.
Good news, though, Inspired lasts 3 Rounds, so gives me an extra Action to fail again.
GM_NotAngryButUpset |
Seeing Valkor stabilize, Danus runs out of the chapel with Tor on his heels. "Let’s get after it!" he shouts as he runs past Sebastien and into the covered walkway. ”Sic ‘I’m!" he commands Tor, and the boar chases down the ghostly knight.
Tor Tusk: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Tor gores nothing but trailing whisps.
The knight’s turn next.
GM_NotAngryButUpset |
Oh yes I owe you a reflex save.
Knight Ref: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20 Success!
The ghostly knight mostly avoids Shemar's cantrip, and the rest seems to pass right through him.
GM_NotAngryButUpset |
Travis, Waedin, and Stepnik move into position to take down whatever's coming for them. Behind the angry spirit floating down the hall emerge a sneaky halfling, a spellcaster, a human ranger, and a brave little boar from a double set of doors at the far end. From somewhere further away, a meek voice eeks out the makings of a complete breakfast. Strange as it is, everyone feels a little bit emboldened. Everyone benefits from Inspire Courage, which is good, considering what will happen next.
Tor's gore and Shemar's zap prove ineffective against the ghostly knight.
The knight stops in his pursuit and laments, "Begone intruders! Only murder and madness dwell within these walls! You will turn on your friends and become your own worst enemy! Beware! Betrayal is your fate!"
◆ Frightful Moan: DC 21 Will

Waedin Will+IC: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 8 + 1 = 12 Fail!
Shemar and Waedin begin second guessing their choices, while Tor ain't so brave no more.
But the knight isn't through. He ◆continues in his pursuit and passes straight through the wall into the western tower and swings an ephemeral sword at Waedin.
◆Strike: Ghostly Hand: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30 Crit Success!
Crit Negative Dmg: 4d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 2, 3, 6) + 4 = 18
The blade seems to rip the life force out of our new hero. She is left standing, if only barely.

What the holy f~~$ sticks will hurt this s#%@bag ghost!
With inspiration continuing, the Bard scratches his head for an idea. Any idea. Even a really bad idea....
Sébastien of The City of a Hund |
I seem to remember a vial of clear liquid sitting upon the altar.
The Bard then Telekinetic Projectile it at the ghost!
Ranged Spell Attack, inspired: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 7 + 1 = 261d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 = 7
He then cast Shield.
Waedin Craftsdotter |
Waedin's strong shield arm absorbs the blow but the jar of the dent is such that it becomes useless.. she stumbles back a step, both very hurt and scared out of her wits. Ahh.. I'm not ready for this...

GM_NotAngryButUpset |
Sebastien, I would like for your plan to work, but you are one room away from the vial, and two rooms away from the ghost. By my count, Boros needed two Strides and an Interact to get the vial from the altar. Check out the map and let me know how you might pull it off.

GM_NotAngryButUpset |
I really don't believe in secret checks. Y'all can roll your own dice ;) DC 14 with that Specific Lore.
GM_NotAngryButUpset |
Stepnik knows a ghost when he sees one. As an incorporeal undead, he knows it is resistant (not immune) to physical damage, and less resistant to magical damage. Force effects and Good energy are the way to really hurt it. Also Healing spells, of course.
He also knows that the only way to truly eliminate a ghost is to find a way to put it to rest.
Sébastien of The City of a Hund |
Sébastien waves at Stepnik from shivering across the room.
He seems a bit morose about some Dinwiddie deed he did.
Sébastien will just Telekinetic Projectile a candle stick until Boros returns.
Shemar Dunebright |
Shemar continues to chase after the ghost. He can't quite figure out why, though. He was already of the mind of avoiding it at all costs, but how he's downright frightened of it!
"Got to get lined up to hit with a magic missle. electricity will have to do for now."

Travis of The Meadows |
Travis listens to what Stepnik says and pauses as he was begining to attack...
He says to the apparition.
good sir knight. It is deeply troubling to me, a mere farmer turned militia, that a noble such as you is trapped in this unearthly form. You keep saying NOONE must know. Eventually someone will know. Whether it is us, or others. We know this isn't what you wanted the end of your life to be like. Wouldn't it be better to let us help you end this than risk more and more coming to risk it getting out to more and more people? Stay your hand and let us help.
GM_NotAngryButUpset |
After much consternation over the rules, and a brief forum search, I have concluded that yes, telekinetic projectile counts as magic damage. The acid flask, however, does not.
Boros turns and runs all the way back to the altar, mom in a certain vial and having a gut feeling, perhaps, that it can be effective against restless spirits.
Meanwhile, Sebastien hurls a piece of rubbish down the hall and at the ghost, with his mind! The candlestick flies through the ghost, but does seem to disrupt its form, if only a bit.
Shemar continues the magical assault.
Ghost Ref: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
He will need to cast something with more oomph.
Stepnik tries too, but merely burns the floor with acid.
Waedin’s shield takes the blow and breaks! Shocked, frightened, she steps back and heals herself.
Travis tries his best to calm the angry spirit, and then prepares for the worst.
Danus runs in through the door and swings his sword.
Longsword: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
He cuts neatly through thin air.

Travis sees Waedin motion for him to wait and pauses at the ready for Priest to help him. Waedin moves next to him and touches his flail and a magical rune appeared upon the weapon and he hears the priest say...for the next minute your weapon is magical Travis nods and he can hear the bardic music in the background and a smile comes to his face. GM_NotAngryButUpset |
Boros hands off the glass vial and Sebastien sends it flying through the air. The vial smashes open and breaks upon hitting the ghostly figure!
Holy Water dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 4
"Aggghhh!"
Shemar follows with a barrage of force missiles. They unerringly connect, but are a bit failing in the force department. At least it tears away at the knights ectoplasmic form. "Wagh!"
Waedin magifies Travis's flail, but his attack misses the ghostly knight.
Stepnick steps to Danus's rescue, reviving the fallen ranger. Danus is awake and loses Dying 1, gains Wounded 1 condition.
Danus slowly crawls back out the door.
The knight's eyes flare with a ghostly light from beneath his helm, "So be it fools! My hands are already stained with death, what's one more if I save you from sharing my fate!"
The ghostly knight cries out in pain and anguish as objects across the room fly about in a whirlwind.

Boros strides forward, then calls out at it. "A'ight you crazy ghost, ever thought that YOU might be the one dyin' tonight?"
Intimidate: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Just as quick as he says this, Boros slinks away, not wanting to die himself. "You and me, Sebastien. We're takin' this down!" It's pretty obvious that Boros isn't helping Sebastien with much of anything right now.

I don't know how many people are affected by the emanation considering all the walls so I'll leave it up to the GM, also I think this counts as a 'damage' roll on the ghost? If so I think Inspired makes that a 5 on him? Spell DC is 16
Travis of The Meadows |
Travis's swing fell short and then the ghostly knight called up a veritable tornado of flying objects that bludgeoned the warrior and all the others. Finally the apparition stared at Travis s and focused on him, as Travis tried to interpose his shield, the ghostly hand passed right through it and touched the farmers chest . He felt the cold touch of death. His body was pained and freezing at the same time. Hed never felt this type of Injury. He grimaced in agony.

Sebastien inspires everybody, then throws the book at the ghostly knight, tearing apart its ectoplasmic form!
With a well timed put down, Boros turns the tables on the ghost and frightens it! Success!
Shemar hits the ghost with a flaming spitball, damaging it a little bit more!
Ghost Fort: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15 Fail!
Waedin unleashes a blast of healing energy that bolsters her nearby allies, as well as disrupts the undead manifestation of the knight.
The knights form begins to fade, and as it does Travis hits it with flail, tearing the image apart. By the time he swings again, the ghost is gone!

Sébastien of The City of a Hund |
Sébastien looks about the mess of a chamber. The books flung with abandoned. The sharp shards of glass littering the blood stained carpet. The candles fallen, melting wax flooding the darkwood furnishings. The ectoplasmic goo gorgeously gathered around them.
The halfling looks up at the new comers.
So, how's it going.
He absently shuffles a broken vase behind the smoking divan.
Waedin Craftsdotter |
Been better says the dwarf in the newcomers she's well dressed and decently armed. Never killed a ghost before.... so... name's Waedin. We're the rescue party I think.

Boros the Snake |
"We killed it, we killed it!" shouts Boros. He then realizes he looks ridiculous and composes himself. "Ahem, I mean of course we killed it" and didn't run away.

"Yeah, I'm Shemar. We're just looking to raise the gate so we can keep moving, so let's do fun introductions later. I don't want to be here when anymore ghosts show up.". Shemar says as he moves toward the door.
Waedin Craftsdotter |
The Ghost was babblin' about some dagger.. did any of ya find something like that? Feel like we should put that one to rest at least and it won't happen without whatever it's obsessed about taken care of.. What happened here by the nine hells? Waedin says. I'm nearly tapped out but I think I can help the most wounded.
Waedin isn't built to be a medic. Is anyone else in the party good at Medicine?
