The rules for Identifying Magic don't say anything about retrying, but I'm sure someone can help you identify the brooch along the course of your journeys.
So, who takes what?
The ghost drifted up to the next level. There are stairs going up if you want to follow him. Or there's the door on the eastern wall Boros has surmised leads outside, possibly to the other tower. Otherwise, you can turn around and take the stairs down from the entrance hall. What's next?
Shemar Dunebright |
"I have no use for the oil. I would probably fall to the ground before I'd be giving a chance to take a healing potion. So maybe one of the more sturdier of us should carry those? This magical trinket, though. Since we cannot identify it yet I think that for most arcane Castro among us should keep it.". Shemar smiles warmly.
Sébastien of The City of a Hund |
Sébastien nods in agreement to Shemar about the items. The bard then glances at the door upstairs.
Perhaps, we explore downstairs for now. I am depleted of spells, except cantrips.

The group decides to cover their tracks and explore the lower levels first. They return down the stairs to the gathering room, out to the entrance hall, and down the first set of stairs they encountered.
As Boros leads the way down, he is offended by the familiar smell of rotting flesh and blood. With Danus's shield glowing behind him, he sees four figures shambling about a long dining table. They don't yet notice the sneaky halfling, but turn towards the light.

Descending down the stairs, the grateful bard was just thinking that it was certainly nice not to have to worry about his depleted spells.
F#@%ing zombies!
GM_NotAngryButUpset |
Boros slips into the room and catches the first zombie by surprise. His first attack misses, but the second guts the zombie, spilling viscera all over the floor.

Zombies are down! Combat over! But Valkor is still bleeding out!
Valkor Recovery Check DC 11: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Valkor lies unconscious beneath a twice dead zombie.
Shemar Dunebright |
Shemar looks around for Sebastian. "Can you help Valkor?" He then nudges each of the shamlers in turn before looking to make sure that there are no other doors to this room that are open. Once that is done, he keeps his eye on the next door(s).
Danus |
Moving over to the fallen Valkor, Danus removes a number of ingredients from a pouch and, crushing them together with a liberal amount of saliva, creates a poultice that he applies to the wounds.
"There you go...that should help some."
Treat Wounds (Natural Medicine) DC-15: 1d20 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 3 = 15
Heal: 2d8 ⇒ (7, 6) = 13
Sébastien of The City of a Hund |
Sébastien sighs as he watches Danus treating the fallen Valkor.
That would be his area of expertise. Mine is more in the inspiring realm than in the healing one.
Boros the Snake |
Boros rubs his latest wound, wondering if we was going to get diseased from those rotten claws. "Didn't sign up fer this crap," he complains, before checking out the zombies and the dining room table for anything interesting.
GM_NotAngryButUpset |
Danus helps Valkor back onto his feet. Valkor, I'm sure, thanks him.
Looking about the room, it appears to be a mess hall. A long wooden table occupies the center of the room, and toppled wooden benches, broken plates, and rotting food scattered across the tabletop and floor suggest a fierce struggle took place here, long before you arrived and took down the zombies. Among the scattered debris, Shemar finds a bronze tankard engraved with the image of two hippogriffs, and a palm sized figurine of a bear whittled from pinewood. Boros finds an iron key hanging from the belt on one of the zombies.
A plain wooden door leads west. A heavy heavy wood door with iron bands leads east.
Sébastien of The City of a Hund |
Sébastien smiles at the sorcerer. The halflimg then begins to focus on the room.
Things certainly do not look good at Silverpine Watch. What are we to do about a zombie infested keep?
The bard glances at the injured monk.
Are you ok?
Shemar Dunebright |
"Well, zombies we can certainly deal with. We might need to get a specialist in for that ghost! As for this and this, well, zombies hardly have a need for them now do they?" Shemar finishes, putting the tankard and figurine in his pack.
"We can sort those out latter. Boros, looks like you've found our key to victory. Shall we try the less assuming door to the west first? Maybe we can hear the tell tale sound of zombie moans from the other side."
Listen at door
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
GM_NotAngryButUpset |
Shemar puts an ear to the door, but hears no sound. However, it smells of rotting food, moreso than in the dining hall.
Boros the Snake |
Does the East door look like another door to the outside?
"You mean this thing?" Boros replies to Shemar as he holds the iron key. "Just hopin' it opens a treasury or somethin'." He tucks it away and gets his daggers back up.
Avoid Notice.
Shemar Dunebright |
"Ready."
Shemar moves away from the door, on top of the chair table If possible, and readies an electric jolt to fry at least a couple of the rats. Maybe it'll scare the rest of them off."
GM_NotAngryButUpset |
Danus throws open the door to find an empty kitchen. A large wooden chopping block sits near the center of the room, with the rotting remains of a hunk of meat. A cluttered, wooden cabinet stands on the northern wall, and a large cooking cauldron hangs in the cold fireplace. A few roaches scatter to the dark corners and cracks in the masonry, but nothing else stirs.
A simple wooden door leads south.
Boros the Snake |
"With the stench, I was expectin' zombie," mentions Boros at the sight of the rotting hunk of meat. He figures to have a look around for anything of interest, though he wasn't expecting much.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Sébastien of The City of a Hund |
Sébastien peers further about the kitchen. The halfling does cover his nose and mouth with his cloak.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
He then readies to explore the simple wooden door south.
Boros the Snake |
Boros checks inside the horn for a drink!
But then it's back to business. "I like quiet, as long as it means there's no bad guys."
Perception on Door: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
And unless anything seems amiss, Boros opens the door!
GM_NotAngryButUpset |
Ehh, scratch that. I didn't see Boros's post.
Boros puts an ear to the door. He hears the faint sound of something moving within.
